Abstract

The static and dynamic aspects of magnetic behavior of the complex of iron with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol Na[FeO₆(C₁₀H₆N)₃] as a function of temperature, frequency and magnetic field have been analysed. The ac susceptibility ( ac) and dc magnetization (Mdc) were measured over a temperature range of 1.5–200 K in external magnetic field up to 90 kOe and over a frequency range of 95–2000 Hz. The experimental data indicate the absence of magnetic long range order in this complex. The magnetization does not reach a saturation in field of 90 kOe at 1.5 K. At low temperatures, the following characteristic peculiarities of magnetic behavior of complex studied have been found, namely : cusp-like anomalies in the ac susceptibility and zero field coold (ZFC) magnetization at Tcusp = = 17 K; frequency dependence of the Tcusp temperature; remanence and time-dependent relaxation of ZFC magnetization. Attempts were made to compare the ac and Mdc anomalies in complex studied with those of other magnetic systems. Comparison of characteristic peculiarities of magnetic behavior of the spin-glasses and superparamagnets was also performed. Although superparamagnetic behavior should not be completely ruled out as an explanation of the freezing phenomena in sample studied, the analysis of experimental results strongly suggests that the spin-glasslike behavior is a more consistent explanation.

Abstract

Influence of predeformation by the equal-channel multiangle pressing combined with hydroextrusion, drawing and heat treatment on structure and physico-mechanical properties of superconducting Nb + 60 at. % Ti alloy wire has been investigated. Effect of deformation on pinning force in the alloy has been estimated. Досліджено вплив величини попередньої деформації методом рівноканального багатокутового пресування у сполученні з гідроекструзією, волочінням і термообробкою на структуру й фізико-механічні властивості надпровідного дроту на основі сплаву Nb + 60 ат. % Ті. Зроблено оцінку впливу деформації на силу пінінгу у сплаві. Исследовано влияние величины предварительной деформации методом равноканального многоуглового прессования в сочетании с гидроэкструзией, волочением и термообработкой на структуру и физико-механические свойства сверхпроводящей проволоки на основе сплава Nb + 60 ат. % Ti. Произведена оценка влияния деформации на силу пиннинга в сплаве.

Abstract

We have presented new results on the EPR spectra and the ground state of the Cr3+ ion replacing Y3+ in YAl3(BO3)4 and Eu3+ in EuAl3(BO3)4 single crystals. The EPR studies performed at frequencies of about 9.4 and 37 GHz in a temperature range of 300-4.2 K have revealed the peculiarities and differences of EPR spectra of Cr3+ ion as well as determined the spin-Hamiltonian parameters ( g-factors, D, and E fine-structure parameters and their signs) in both crystals. The value and sign of the D parameter in both crystals are determined by both the nearest ligands around the Cr3+ ion and the spin-orbit interaction. The interaction between Cr3+ ion and rare-earth ion weakly influences on the ground-state splitting, while the changes of g-factors are mainly caused by the Cr3+ and Eu3+ ions interactions. The EPR spectra and contributions determining the value of spin-Hamiltonian parameters were analyzed on the basis of the superposition model of the crystal field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The effects of substitution of barium by tin on the phase composition, structural imperfection, and properties of lanthanum manganite perovskites La[sub 0.7]Ba[sub 0.3-x]Sn[sub x]MnO[sub 3] (x=0, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.3) are established by comprehensive studies done by x-ray diffraction, resistive, and magnetic (including NMR on [sup 55]Mn and [sup 139]La) methods. It is shown that the introduction of Sn leads to the formation of a pyrochloric phase La[sub 2]Sn[sub 2]O[sub 7], to an increase in the density of lattice defects of the manganese-enriched main lanthanum manganite phase, and to a substantial decrease of the magnetoresistive effect. The smearing of the metal–semiconductor phase transition temperature is explained by an increase in the inhomogeneity and imperfection of the perovskite structure. The low activation energy is confirmed by a high degree of inhomogeneity and imperfection of the crystal lattice of the samples studied. The broad, asymmetric NMR spectra of [sup 55]Mn and [sup 139]La attest to high-frequency electron exchange between Mn[sup 3+] and Mn[sup 4+] and nonequivalence of the environment of those ions and La[sup 3+] due both to heterovalent ions and to vacancies and clusters. © 2003 American Institute of Physics.
