Four research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A simple random sampling technique was used in selecting 34 respondents from each 6 schools, with a sample size of 204 was selected from the population of 1,518. The instrument titled LEVSLEQ was used to elicit response from the respondent. The reliability of the research instrument yielded a co-efficient of 0.82. The data was analyzed using dependent t-test and was tested at .05 level of significance. The findings indicated that environmental variable studied influence students’ learning effectiveness.

This study is a path modeling, which examines the effect and magnitude of four socio-cultural indicators on adolescents' response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices in Nigerian setting. Questionnaire data were generated from 316 fifth year students in 12 secondary schools in Cross River State, Nigeria. Result of data analysis, using path analyses procedures indicated that only three socio-cultural factors were effective in explaining adolescents' response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices. Cultural indicators and sexuality attitudes had the most significant influence on adolescents' response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices. In all, 56.5% of the total effect of the variables was direct, while 43.5% was indirect. The implications of the research findings are addressed.

This paper examines the use of condom in this period of HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS is a disease transmitted through two main channels; sexual intercourse and blood transfusion. More than 90% of the Nigerian population accept the fact that AIDS is real deadly and incurable. They do also believe that there are preventive measures to AIDS including the use of condom. Despite the acceptance and awareness of HIV/AIDS people still engage in multiple sexual partners casual sex and unprotected sex. This paper advocates the use of condom in every sexual encounter and outlines that professional counselors can use in promoting the use of condom such as encouraging men and women to use condoms and organizing talks seminars and symposium on the use of condoms. This article examines the influence of literacy on the health of menopausetting (or pre-menopause) women in urban Calabar Metropolis of Cross River State, Nigeria. Two null hypotheses were formulated with a 45-item questionnaire from a representative sample size of 500 urban women between ages 35 and above, using purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling procedures. The research design is survey inferential, while data analysis was by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Fisher's multiple comparison (LSD) and Independent t-test techniques were carried out. The analysis revealed that literacy level significantly influences the health of menopausetting women and that menopausetting women who are highly literate live healthier lives than their counterparts who are averagely and lowly literate. Some recommendations were made which will enhance longevity and ultimate well-being of menopausetting women.

This study sought to find out the extent to which some psycho cultural and physiological factors affects the attitudinal disposition to HIV/AIDS preventive practices among in-school adolescents in Nigeria. Specifically, the study investigated the composite and relative contribution of the following psycho cultural and physiological variables (gender, age, traditional beliefs about HIV/AIDS and sexuality attitudes), to adolescence response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices in Cross River State, Nigeria. Data was generated from 316 fifth year students in 12 secondary schools in Cross River state, Nigeria using a questionnaire. Result of data analysis, using multiple regression procedure indicated that only two factors were effective in explaining adolescents’ response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices. Traditional beliefs about HIV/AIDS made the greatest contribution to adolescents’ response to HIV/AIDS preventive practices, followed by sexuality attitudes. Age and gender were not significant. The implications of the research findings are addressed.

Violence against women in Africa dates back to primordial society, where cultural practices such as female genital mutilation and polygamous marriages were prescribed and supervised by male-dominated social structures. Women's status has always been at high risk, since such practices are male supervised. With the upsurge of the HIV/AIDS pandemic globally, research needs to focus on such cultural practices, the dangers of such practices, and possible eradication. The present article examines the change-resistant, prevailing religious, social, and psychological barriers to change.
