We generalize a native Nb 2 O 5 dissolution model [G. Ciovati, Appl. Phys. Lett. 89, 022507 (2006)] to sequential overlayer dissolutions, multilayer dissolution, and realistic temperature profiles, which may be applicable to other materials. The model is applied to secondary ion mass spectrometry depth profile measurements for varying temperature profiles and two-step oxide dissolution in Nb and found to agree well. In the context of the Meissner screening response due to impurity profiles on the length scale of the London penetration depth, the shallow diffusion of O impurities results in a substantial decrease in the peak supercurrent density near the surface. In this framework, oxide dissolution and oxygen diffusion can account for a rise in peak supportable magnetic field in SRF cavities with baking time and a suppression after the optimal baking time is reached, in good agreement with peak-field baking temperatures and times as well as recent quench field measurements. Water is a fundamental molecule for life, and investigating its interaction with monosaccharides is of great interest in order to understand its influence on their conformational behavior. In this study, we report on the conformational landscape of monosaccharide glyceraldehyde, the simplest aldose sugar, in the presence of a single water molecule in the gas phase. This investigation was performed using a combination of Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. Out of the nine calculated conformers, only the lowest energy conformer was experimentally observed and characterized. Interestingly, the presence of water was found to induce structural features in the lowest energy conformer of the glyceraldehyde monomer, with water positioned between the alcohol groups. To analyze this interaction further, non-covalent interaction plots were employed to map the intermolecular interactions in the observed species. Additionally, natural bond orbital analysis was conducted to study the effects of charge transfer in the monohydrate system. Furthermore, topological analysis based on Bader's Atoms in Molecules theory was performed to gain insights into the observed complex. The results of all three analyses consistently showed the formation of relatively strong hydrogen bonds between water and glyceraldehyde, leading to the formation of a seven-member ring network. The deployment of fifth-generation mobile network (5G), beyond 5G and sixth-generation mobile network platforms encounters challenges of blockage, interference, and path loss in radio mobile environments. Metasurfaces provide a promising solution to address these limitations. In this paper, we present a methodology for developing ultrathin flexible metasurface-based frequency selective surfaces (FSSs). Our approach combines thermal evaporation for metallic thin films with a macroscopic metasurface mask (something analogous to screen-printing but using thermal evaporation instead of inks). As a proof of concept, we fabricate a sub-6 GHz metasurface-based FSS using gold deposition on a flexible polyethylene terephthalate substrate. Experimental results are validated through numerical full-wave simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics and equivalent-circuit model simulations. The metasurface operates within the primary frequency band utilized in 5G networks (3–5 GHz), indicating its potential applicability across a wide range of flexible, conformal, and wearable devices. The fabricated FSS can be installed on surfaces of any shape, such as flat or curved windows, as well as on walls or other external surfaces. This article discusses a study on the prevalence of psychiatric diseases in individuals with Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS), a vascular malformation and congenital overgrowth syndrome. The study found that psychiatric diseases are common in patients with KTS, with depression being the most prevalent in adults and neurodevelopmental disorders being the most frequent in pediatric patients. The study also found a significant association between psychiatric disease and chronic pain in both adults and children with KTS. Introduction Social and Community Service Organizations (SCSOs) are a potential setting to reach and support people with a low socioeconomic position who smoke, yet smoking cessation is not widely supported by SCSO professionals. Aims and Methods This study aims to identify SCSO professionals' (1) potential activities to support smoking cessation and (2) barriers and facilitators in undertaking these activities. Between July and November 2022, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 professionals recruited through SCSOs in Amsterdam North, including participation workers, welfare workers, parent and child counselors, budget coach, debt counselor, welfare work, community sports, and community center coordinators. Data were analyzed using a thematic approach. Results Eight activities were identified that could support the client either directly (ie, recognizing smoking clients, discussing smoking and smoking cessation, referring clients, providing smoking cessation counseling, offering help around services) or indirectly (ie, collaboration with relevant network partners, implementing smoke-free environments, enhancing professional skills). Various barriers and facilitators were identified related to the (1) client and their environment (ie, clients' readiness and social environment), (2) interaction between professional and client (ie, topic sensitivity), (3) professional (ie, professional is non-smoker, knowledge, and self-efficacy), (4) professionals' work environment (ie, necessity, responsibility, priority, and time), and (5) smoking cessation services (ie, availability of appropriate services and referral process). Conclusions There is potential for SCSO professionals to support smoking cessation, but several barriers hinder their efforts. To address these barriers, it is essential to take into account the factors that SCSO professionals believe facilitate the provision of smoking cessation support. Implications This study provides insight into how the potential of SCSOs in Amsterdam North to support smoking cessation efforts among people with a low socioeconomic position can be harnessed. Barriers were found at multiple levels (client, professional, client-professional interaction, and organizational) and these findings imply that stakeholders across these levels will need to prioritize smoking cessation to facilitate and stimulate SCSO professionals in supporting smoking cessation. A concrete action would be to offer SCSO professionals additional training in conversational skills to discuss smoking. The small hive beetle Aethina tumida (SHB) Murray,1867, is an invasive bee pest that is expanding its range across Latin America, parts of Australia and the Philippines, and is now established in two regions in Italy. However, despite multiple recent introductions, there is scant information about the dynamics of the initial stages of colonization of the SHB and this knowledge gap could impact management and quarantine strategies decisions for many countries. This note describes the monitoring strategies and the patterns of SHB establishment in a previously SHB‐free apiary on the island of Oahu, Hawaii in 2010–2011. The weekly hive inspections, conducted over a ten‐month period, showed that beetle prevalence increased slowly at the apiary level, and adult beetles were more commonly found (87.9%) inside the oil traps that were placed inside the hives between the outermost frames of the hive. There were relatively few "free roaming" beetles detected at this point and they were more often found on the side frames and underneath the cover of the hive, not on the floor of the hive. The results also suggest that in the early stages of colonization careful visual inspections of the frames of each colony had relatively low detection success when compared to oil traps. Our results support previous modelling studies that suggest the need to inspect a high proportion of colonies per apiary (>80%) to ensure a 5% detection rate during the initial stages of invasion. This document provides a summary of a study on the use of tofacitinib in patients with psoriasis and a history of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The study found that tofacitinib, at both 5mg and 10mg doses, resulted in significant improvements in skin disease, itch, joint pain, morning stiffness, and depressive symptoms compared to a placebo. The safety profile of tofacitinib was consistent with previous reports. The study suggests that these findings can inform clinical practice and the scientific community. Hyperthyroidism-induced cardiac disease is an evolving health, economic, and social problem affecting well-being. Sodium-glucose cotransporter protein 2 inhibitors (SGLT2-I) have been proven to be cardio-protective when administered in cases of heart failure. This study intended to investigate the potential therapeutic effect of SGLT2-I on hyperthyroidism-related cardiopulmonary injury, targeting the possible underlying mechanisms. The impact of the SGLT2-I, dapagliflozin (DAPA), (1 mg/kg/day, p.o) on LT4 (0.3 mg/kg/day, i.p)-induced cardiopulmonary injury was investigated in rats. The body weight, ECG, and serum hormones were evaluated. Also, redox balance, DNA fragmentation, inflammatory cytokines, and PCR quantification in heart and lung tissues were employed to investigate the effect of DAPA in experimentally induced hyperthyroid rats along with histological and immunohistochemical examination. Coadministration of DAPA with LT4 effectively restored all serum biomarkers to nearly average levels, improved ECG findings, and reinstated the redox balance. Also, DAPA could improve DNA fragmentation, elevate mtTFA, and lessen TNF-α and IGF-1 gene expression in both organs of treated animals. Furthermore, DAPA markedly improved the necro-inflammatory and fibrotic cardiopulmonary histological alterations and reduced the tissue immunohistochemical expression of TNF-α and caspase-3. Although further clinical and deep molecular studies are required before transposing to humans, our study emphasized DAPA's potential to relieve hyperthyroidism-induced cardiopulmonary injury in rats through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects, as well as via antagonizing the sympathetic over activity. The coaching literature emphasizes the role of the coach–coachee working alliance in obtaining positive coaching outcomes and proposes that a good match between coach and coachee promotes this working alliance. However, existing coaching research has some methodological shortcomings that limit drawing robust conclusions about the importance of coach–coachee fit and working alliance for coaching effectiveness. In this study, we investigate coach–coachee fit as an antecedent of the working alliance and its effects on coaching outcomes. Using a three‐wave study design, 184 coachees participating in a workplace coaching program in healthcare answered online surveys before, halfway‐through, and approximately one month after coaching. We measured both coachee‐rated and coach‐rated working alliance and, based on person‐environment fit theories, we included three measures of coach–coachee fit, that is similarity‐fit, general needs‐supplies fit, and idiosyncratic needs‐supplies fit. Multilevel path modelling revealed that only idiosyncratic needs‐supplies fit, where the coach fulfils a coachee's unique needs, related positively to coaching satisfaction through coachee‐rated working alliance and predicted improved goal attainment. Coachees’ similarity‐fit related positively to their assessment of the working alliance but, unexpectedly, predicted lower coaching satisfaction. Coach‐ and coachee‐rated working alliance related to coaching satisfaction but not goal attainment. These findings make a unique contribution to current debates in the coaching and person‐environment fit literatures and advance our understanding of the role of coach–coachee fit and working alliance for affective and behavioural coaching outcomes. Lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) is an important prognostic parameter in endometrial carcinoma (EC) and has gained increasing interest in recent years due to an expanding body of evidence of its independent prognostic value, especially when the presence of LVSI is quantified. A key strength of LVSI as a prognostic factor is that it can be detected on routine microscopic examination, without ancillary tests, and thus can be used in low‐resource settings. A weakness, however, is the lack of uniformly applied criteria for assessment and quantification of LVSI, resulting in interobserver variation in diagnosis. This is confounded by artefacts and other morphological features that may mimic LVSI (commonly referred to as pseudo‐LVSI). Despite these issues, multiple studies have shown that LVSI is strongly associated with lymph node (LN) metastasis and is an independent risk factor for LN recurrence and distant metastasis. Consequently, the presence of substantial/extensive LVSI has become an important consideration in formulating adjuvant treatment recommendations in patients with EC, and this has been incorporated in the recent International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2023 staging system. Herein, we review the current literature on LVSI in EC and discuss its role as a prognostic marker, the reproducibility of LVSI assessment and distinction between LVSI and its mimics. We provide illustrations of key diagnostic features and discuss the two‐tiered (none/focal versus substantial) system of LVSI classification. The complex morphology of neurons requires precise control of their microtubule cytoskeleton. This is achieved by microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) that regulate the assembly and stability of microtubules, and transport of molecules and vesicles along them. While many of these MAPs function in all cells, some are specifically or predominantly involved in regulating microtubules in neurons. Here we use the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis as a model organism to provide new insights into the early evolution of neural microtubule regulation. As a cnidarian, Nematostella belongs to an outgroup to all bilaterians and thus occupies an informative phylogenetic position for reconstructing the evolution of nervous system development. We identified an ortholog of the microtubule-binding protein doublecortin-like kinase (NvDclk1) as a gene that is predominantly expressed in neurons and cnidocytes (stinging cells), two classes of cells belonging to the neural lineage in cnidarians. A transgenic NvDclk1 reporter line revealed an elaborate network of neurite-like processes emerging from cnidocytes in the tentacles and the body column. A transgene expressing NvDclk1 under the control of the NvDclk1 promoter suggests that NvDclk1 localizes to microtubules and therefore likely functions as a microtubule-binding protein. Further, we generated a mutant for NvDclk1 using CRISPR/Cas9 and show that the mutants fail to generate mature cnidocytes. Our results support the hypothesis that the elaboration of programs for microtubule regulation occurred early in the evolution of nervous systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractPurposeMaterials and MethodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo describe the outcomes of an interdisciplinary multimodal pain treatment (IMPT) for chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) patients up until 12 months post-treatment.Data were gathered during routine clinical practice during a 3-year period (2019–2021) at six Dutch rehabilitation centres. Assessments included patient-reported outcome measures for multiple domains including disability, pain and fatigue. Longitudinal data were analysed using repeated-measures models and by quantifying responder rates.Included were 2309 patients with a mean age of 43.7 (SD 12.9) years, of which 73% female. All outcomes showed significant improvements at each timepoint. At discharge, large effect sizes were found for disability, average and worst pain, fatigue and health-related quality of life. Improvements were largely sustained at 12-months. Relatively large proportions of patients had clinically relevant improvements after treatment (pain-related disability: 60%; average pain: 52%; worst pain: 37.4%; work capacity: 50%; concentration: 50%; fatigue: 46%). Patients who received a treatment extension showed further improvements for all outcome measures, except average pain.At group level, all outcomes significantly improved with mainly large effect sizes. The results were mostly sustained. From the useless municipal solid waste (MSW) ashes, CeO2, Gd2O3 and CeO2 + Gd2O3 doped borosilicate glasses were organized via melting-quenching procedure. Various optical, structural, physical and radiation shielding parameters were examined towards the influence of 100 kGy of γ-radiation. UV–visible NIR spectra revealed UV peaks at 351, 348 and 370 nm corresponding to the trivalent states of Ce3+ and Gd3+ ions, while, photoluminescence (PL) spectra displayed asymmetric broad excitations of Ce3+ and Gd3+ ions due to 4f → 5d transitions, and emission intense bands at 412, 434, and 417 nm. CIE chromaticity shows that Gd3+ ions increase the luminescence of Ce3+. FTIR absorption bands revealed an overlapping between tetrahedral groups of silicate (SiO4), with trigonal (BO3) and tetrahedral (BO4) units of borate. The influence of 100 kGy obtains quite reduction in UV–visible NIR and PL peaks, large stability in FTIR and ESR spectra, and stability of thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) as well. The whole data revealed optical, structural and physical stability of glasses after irradiation besides an enhancement in microhardness owing to more structural compactness and high bonding connectivity. Radiation shielding parameters from Phy-X/PSD program showed higher values of mass (MAC) and linear attenuation coefficients (LAC), and effective atomic number (Zeff) in the order of; glass Ce+Gd > glass Ce > glass Gd. Ce + Gd doped glass revealed also the lowest half value layer (HVL) comparing to other shielding commercial concretes. The study recommends the beneficial and economical use of the useless MSW ash to produce CeO2 and/or Gd2O3 borosilicate glasses with hopeful radiation shielding features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Post‐transfusion survival of donor red blood cells (RBCs) is important for effective chronic transfusion therapy in conditions including sickle cell disease (SCD). Biotin labeling RBCs allows direct in vivo measurement of multiple donor RBC units simultaneously post‐transfusion. Study Design and Methods: In an observational trial of patients with SCD receiving monthly chronic transfusion therapy, aliquots of RBCs from one transfusion episode were biotin‐labeled and infused along with the unlabeled RBC units. Serial blood samples were obtained to measure RBC survival. Donor units were tested for RBC indices, hemoglobin fractionation, and glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme activity. For microcytic donor RBCs (MCV < 70 fL), HBA1 and HBA2 genetic testing was performed on whole blood. Results: We present one recipient, a pediatric patient with SCD and splenectomy who received two RBC units with aliquots from each unit labeled at distinct biotin densities (2 and 18 μg/mL biotin). One donor unit was identified to have microcytosis (MCV 68.5 fL after biotinylation); whole blood sample obtained at a subsequent donation showed 2‐gene deletion alpha‐thalassemia trait (ɑ–3.7kb/ɑ–3.7kb) and normal serum ferritin. G6PD activity was >60% of normal mean for both. The RBCs with alpha‐thalassemia RBC had accelerated clearance and increased surface phosphatidylserine post‐transfusion, as compared with the normocytic RBC (half life 65 vs. 86 days, respectively). Discussion: Post‐transfusion RBC survival may be lower for units from donors with alpha‐thalassemia trait, although the impact of thalassemia trait donors on transfusion efficacy requires further study. Nanocomposite blend films were prepared by a simple casting method. Polyvinyl propylene (PVP) and chitosan (PVP/chitosan) were used as a based material. Different CuO nanoparticles concentrations were added to a specific blend film concentration of PVP/chitosan (80/20). The mechanism of the interaction between the blend and the nanoparticles was studied by different characterization techniques. The structure modification was confirmed by X-ray diffraction pattern due to the addition of the nanoparticles, in addition, the complexation and the miscibility between the nanoparticles and the blended composite was confirmed by UV–Vis spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is by the appearance of new peaks in the spectrum. The band gap computation and optical characteristics show that the addition of the nanoparticles decreases the crystallinity of the nanocomposites system. The findings show that the surface morphology checked by scanning electron microscopy shape and swelling rate behavior are affected by the integration of CuO nanoparticles into the polymer blend matrix. The GEX2 protein is expressed in the maize gamete membranes and is necessary during fertilization at the stage of contact (adhesion) of gamete membranes. Knockout of GEX2 gene can presumably lead to impaired fertilization and, as a result, to the formation of matroclinic haploid maize embryos. The purpose of this study is to analyze the efficiency of CRISPR/Cas9 editing of the GEX2 gene after PEG-mediated transfection of maize protoplasts by ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes with different gRNAs. For the first time, constructs for CRISPR/Cas9 editing of the maize GEX2 gene have been created, the effectiveness of which has been proven on protoplasts and reaches 10.7%, depending on the selected gRNA and the ratio and number of components in the RNP complexes. Summary: Forecasting the biological impacts of climate change requires understanding how species respond to warmer temperatures through interannual flexible variation vs through adaptation to local conditions. Yet, we often lack this information entirely or find conflicting evidence across studies, which is the case for spring phenology.We synthesized common garden studies across Europe and North America that reported spring event dates for a mix of angiosperm and gymnosperm tree species in the northern hemisphere, capturing data from 384 North American and 101 European provenances (i.e. populations) with observations from 1962 to 2019, alongside autumn event data when provided.Across continents, we found no evidence of provenance effects in spring phenology, but strong clines with latitude and mean annual temperature in autumn. These effects, however, appeared to diverge by continent and species type (gymnosperm vs angiosperm), with particularly pronounced clines in North America in autumn events.Our results suggest flexible, likely plastic responses, in spring phenology with warming, and potential limits – at least in the short term – due to provenance effects for autumn phenology. They also highlight that, after over 250 yr of common garden studies on tree phenology, we still lack a holistic predictive model of clines across species and phenological events. The tracking of optimal current trajectories in an interior permanent magnet (IPM) synchronous machine is traditionally realized by a complex online tracking, inaccurate analytical equations, or tiresome offline calibration methods. This paper proposes a modified hybrid feed-forward/feedback flux-weakening algorithm for IPM synchronous machines. In this paper, the utilized power converter is a standard T-type multilevel inverter, and hence, the voltage and current harmonics contents of the conventional two-level inverter are improved. The control algorithm utilizes the optimal current profile for maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation and a voltage regulation (VR) feedback control for efficient flux-weakening operation. For infinite-speed IPM machine drives, the d-q current components are limited to follow the maximum torque per voltage (MTPV) trajectory. A low-complexity model predictive control (MPC) is employed to minimize the conflict that arises from using cascaded PI control loops for current and speed control. The performance of the drive is investigated based on the Prius 2004 IPM parameters. Extensive simulation scenarios were performed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK which validates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Real-time simulations based on the dSPACE DS 1103 platform are conducted to confirm the system validity for real hardware implementation. This study investigates the quantum heat correlations associated with the quantum Otto machine, considering the discrete sides of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model as the working medium in the presence of a magnetic field and a symmetric cross interaction. The eigenenergy and occupation probabilities of two-sided and three-sided spin interactions are determined at thermal equilibrium. The results reveal symmetrical heat correlations around the coupling of the symmetric cross interaction, regardless of whether the working medium adopts anisotropic XY, Ising model, or mixed ferromagnetism. The work done by two or three sides of the mixed ferromagnetic working substance exhibits symmetry but with different maximum bounds. Furthermore, the efficiency of the two-sided mixed ferromagnetism model improves as the exchange parameter increases, while the maximum efficiency of the anisotropic XY model is lower compared to the efficiency of the Ising model and mixed ferromagnetism. We update the ephemerides of 16 transiting exoplanets using our ground-based observations, new Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite data, and previously published observations including those of amateur astronomers. All these light curves were modelled by making use of a set of quantitative criteria with the exofast code to obtain mid-transit times. We searched for statistically significant secular and/or periodic trends in the mid-transit times. We found that the timing data are well modelled by a linear ephemeris for all systems except for XO-2 b, for which we detect an orbital decay with the rate of −12.95 ± 1.85 ms yr−1 that can be confirmed with future observations. We also detect a hint of potential periodic variations in the transit timing variation data of HAT-P-13 b, which also requires confirmation with further precise observations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The infamous multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii is becoming a nightmare in intensive care units across the globe. Since there are now very few effective antimicrobial agents, it is necessary to explore unconventional resources for novel antimicrobials. This study investigated the potential antimicrobial activity of Origanum majorana L. against A. baumannii employing multiple approaches including antimicrobial susceptibility, fractionation, ultra-performance liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-HRMS) dereplication, and in silico analysis for target/ligand identification. Results: On the extremely pathogenic MDR strain A. baumannii AB5075, O. majorana L. has shown a significant growth inhibitory effect (MIC = 0.675 mg/mL). The polar 50% methanol fraction was the most active (MIC = 0.5 mg/mL). The UPLC-HRMS dereplication of the bioactive fraction detected 29 metabolites belonging to different chemical classes. Justicidin B, one of the identified metabolites, was projected by preliminary in silico analysis to be the most highly scoring metabolite for binding with molecular targets in A. baumannii with a Fit score = 8.56 for enoyl-ACP reductase (FabI) (PDB ID: 6AHE), suggesting it to be its potential target. Additionally, docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and bioinformatics analysis suggested that this interaction is similar to a well-known FabI inhibitor. The amino acids involved in the interaction are conserved among different MDR A. baumannii strains and the effectiveness could extend to Gram-negative pathogens within the ESKAPE group. Conclusions: Origanum majorana L. extract exhibits antimicrobial activity against A. baumannii using one or more metabolites in its 50% methanol fraction. Background: No studies are available in which changes over time in characteristics and prognosis of patients with interval breast cancers (ICs) and screen-detected breast cancers (SDCs) have been compared. The aim was to study these trends between 1995 and 2018. Methods: All women with invasive SDCs (N = 4290) and ICs (N = 1352), diagnosed in a southern mammography screening region in the Netherlands, were included and followed until date of death or 31 December 2022. Results: The 5-year overall survival rate of women with SDCs increased from 91.4% for those diagnosed in 1995–1999 to 95.0% for those diagnosed in 2013–2018 (P < 0.001), and from 74.8 to 91.6% (P < 0.001) in the same periods for those with ICs. A similar trend was observed for the 10-year survival rates. After adjustment for changes in tumour characteristics, the hazard ratio (HR) for overall survival was 0.47 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.38–0.59) for women with SDCs diagnosed in the period 2013–2018, compared to the women diagnosed in the period 1995–1999. For the women with ICs this HR was 0.27 (95% CI: 0.19–0.40). Conclusion: The prognosis of women with ICs has improved rapidly since 1995 and is now almost similar to that of women with SDCs. The cyclicity index of a directed graph is defined as the least common multiple of the cyclicity indices of all its strongly connected components, and the cyclicity index of a strongly connected directed graph is equal to the greatest common divisor of the lengths of all its directed cycles. The cyclicity index of a tropical matrix is the cyclicity index of its critical subgraph, i.e., the subgraph of the adjacency graph consisting of all cycles with the largest average weight. This paper considers linear transformations of tropical matrices that preserve two values of the cyclicity index, 1 and 2. A complete characterization of such transformations is obtained. To this end, it is proved that the values 1 and 2 of the cyclicity index are preserved if and only if all its values are preserved. Ischemic stroke (IS) is a prevalent condition worldwide with high mortality and disability risks. The issue of its pathogenetic therapy remains unresolved by now due to the limited effectiveness and safety of reperfusion measures. Recent research has elucidated that neuroinflammation plays a pivotal role in IS development and may serve as a therapeutic target. The NLRP3 inflammasome emerges as a key mediator orchestrating post-ischemic inflammatory reactions through activation of caspase-1, which cleaves pro-IL-1β and pro-IL-18 into active pro-inflammatory cytokines released into the extracellular milieu. This review presents insights into the structure and activation process of the NLRP3 inflammasome in IS. The factors and mechanisms contributing to both its activation and inhibition are outlined. The feasibility of use of natural nanomaterials, namely, natural aluminosilicate (halloysite) nanotubes and nanocellulose, as modifying additives to commercial polyurethane foam to vary fire resistance and mechanical properties was studied. Series of composite polyurethane foams containing various weight proportions of the modifying additives were obtained via in situ polymerization. The effect of the additives on the polyurethane foam structure, compressibility, and fire resistance was studied. It was observed that introduction of additives into polyurethane foam leads to change of the average pore size and reduction of foams compressibility. However, once the the maximum rigidity of the foam composites was reached, further increase of additive content causes regression of this characteristic. Colour patterns are diverse in trichomycterine catfishes and are often used to diagnose species. Here, we analyse the first case of adults of two syntopic species of Trichomycterus sharing nearly identical colour patterns: a rare new species of the subgenus Paracambeva and Trichomycterus maculosus, a distantly related species of the subgenus Trichomycterus. Both species are endemic to the upper Rio Paraíba do Sul basin (RPSB), which had a different course until the Tertiary period and is situated within the Southeastern Brazilian Continental Rift, mostly active in the Eocene-Oligocene. A time-calibrated multigene analysis, 3144 bp, supported the new species as sister to Trichomycterus itatiayae, both comprising a lineage with Middle Miocene age, when that colour pattern would have first arisen. The new species is diagnosed by characters from the latero-sensory system and bone morphology. Our results, combined with available biogeographical data, indicated the colour pattern of T. maculosus arising in the Late Pliocene, following the dispersal of its group to the upper RPSB after river course changing. Two hypotheses for the independent origin of the same colour pattern are discussed. First, a case of evolutionary convergence for adaptation to live on a similarly coloured gravel substrate, giving some cryptic advantage against predators. Second, mimetic association through anti-predation features. In the latter case, although trichomycterids lack fin spines to inoculate venom as in other catfishes, the species here studied have a supposed axillary gland above the pectoral fin, just posterior to the opercular odontodes, but with properties and functions still unknown. Cosmic infrared emission and absorption spectra often carry a well-defined and invariant 6.2  |$\mu \rm m$| band that has been proposed to emanate from very small dust grains that may carry polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Hemoglycin, a well-defined polymer of glycine that also contains iron, has been found in meteorites of the primordial CV3 class and therefore originated in the solar protoplanetary disc. Here, we suggest that the polymer hemoglycin should also be considered as a source of the cosmic 6.2  |$\mu{\rm m}$| emission and absorption. In quantum calculations, the principal amide I infrared absorption band of hemoglycin is centred, before splitting, at 6.0 |$\mu\rm m$|⁠. Multiple hemoglycin polymers interact to split amide I into the strong (a -) band in the region of 6.2 |$\mu\rm m$| and the much weaker (a +) band in the region of 5.8 |$\mu\rm m$|⁠. Experimentally, these two components are seen in extracts of the Sutter's Mill meteorite and in stromatolite ooid. The two 11-mer glycine antiparallel chains of hemoglycin have an exact structural analogue in antiparallel poly- l -lysine beta sheet crystals which in the laboratory have an (a -) absorption peak at 6.21 |$\mu\rm m$|⁠. This wavelength coincidence, the demonstrated propensity of hemoglycin 4.9 nm rods to form accreting lattice structures, and its proven existence in the solar protoplanetary disc suggest that the cosmic 6.2 |$\mu\rm m$| emission and absorption could be from small grains that are hemoglycin lattices or shell-like vesicles carrying internal organic molecules of various types. Background: Red blood cell (RBC) antibodies are common in multiply transfused patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Unlike RBC alloantibodies, the potential of autoantibodies to cause post‐transfusion hemolysis may be uncertain. Biotin‐labeling provides a direct measurement of red cell survival (RCS) over time, thus can be used to assess the clinical significance of RBC antibodies. Antibodies to biotinylated RBC (B‐RBC) occasionally are detected after exposure, which may impact B‐RBC survival in subsequent RCS studies. Study Design and Methods: Pediatric patients with SCD receiving monthly chronic transfusions underwent RCS studies, receiving aliquots of allogeneic RBC labeled at distinct densities of biotin (2–18 μg/mL). B‐RBC survival was followed for 4 months post‐transfusion, and B‐RBC antibody screening for 6 months. Patients with warm autoantibodies (WAA) or B‐RBC antibodies are reported here. Results: RBC antibodies were detected during RCS in four patients: one with WAA, one with WAA followed by B‐RBC‐specific antibodies, and two with transient B‐RBC antibodies within the first 5 weeks of exposure. B‐RBC half‐lives (T50) ranged 37.6–61.7 days (mean 47.8 days). There was no evidence of increased hemolysis or accelerated B‐RBC clearance in the presence of WAA or B‐RBC antibodies. Discussion: Biotinylation of allogenic RBC can be used to assess the possible effects of RBC antibodies on transfusion survival in individual cases, particularly when it is uncertain if the detected antibodies may result in hemolysis. Background: Data on the incidence and clinical relevance of gallstones in patients with suspected acute alcoholic pancreatitis are lacking and are essential to minimize the risk of recurrent acute pancreatitis. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of gallstones and the associated rate of recurrent acute pancreatitis in patients with presumed acute alcoholic pancreatitis. Methods: Between 2008 and 2019, 23 hospitals prospectively enrolled patients with acute pancreatitis. Those diagnosed with their first episode of presumed acute alcoholic pancreatitis were included in this study. The term gallstones was used to describe the presence of cholelithiasis or biliary sludge found during imaging. The primary outcome was pancreatitis recurrence during 3 years of follow-up. Results: A total of 334 patients were eligible for inclusion, of whom 316 were included in the follow-up analysis. Gallstone evaluation, either during the index admission or during follow-up, was performed for 306 of 334 patients (91.6%). Gallstones were detected in 54 patients (17.6%), with a median time to detection of 6 (interquartile range 0–42) weeks. During follow-up, recurrent acute pancreatitis occurred in 121 of 316 patients (38.3%), with a significantly higher incidence rate for patients with gallstones compared with patients without gallstones (59% versus 34.2% respectively; P < 0.001), while more patients with gallstones had stopped drinking alcohol at the time of their first recurrence (41% versus 24% respectively; P = 0.020). Cholecystectomy was performed for 19 patients with gallstones (36%). The recurrence rate was lower for patients in the cholecystectomy group compared with patients who did receive inadequate treatment or no treatment (5/19 versus 19/34 respectively; P = 0.038). Conclusion: Gallstones were found in almost one in every five patients diagnosed with acute alcoholic pancreatitis. Gallstones were associated with a higher rate of recurrent pancreatitis, while undergoing cholecystectomy was associated with a reduction in this rate. Almost one in five patients with presumed acute alcoholic pancreatitis have an underlying biliary cause, in addition to their excessive drinking habits, and this has a negative impact on the recurrence of pancreatitis. To prevent the recurrence of pancreatitis, it is important to screen for gallstones and, if found, to perform a cholecystectomy, which is associated with a lower rate of recurrence. Introduction: Trabecular bone score (TBS) estimates bone microstructure, which is directly measured by high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HRpQCT). We evaluated the correlation between these methods and TBS influence on fracture risk assessed by FRAX. Materials and methods: We evaluated 129 individuals (82 women, 43 postmenopausal) 20 to 82.3 years without prevalent clinical or non-clinical morphometric vertebral fractures, using DXA (spine and hip), HR-pQCT at distal radius (R) and tibia (T) and TBS which classifies bone microarchitecture as normal (TBS ≥ 1.350), partially degraded (1.200 < TBS < 1.350), or degraded (TBS ≤ 1.200). Results: Spine and hip BMD and HR-pQCT parameters at cortical bone: area (T), density (R,T) thickness (T) and trabecular bone: density (R,T), number (T) and thickness (R) were significantly better in the 78 individuals with normal TBS (group 1) versus the 51 classified as partially degraded (n = 42) or degraded microarchitecture (n = 9) altogether (group 2). TBS values correlated with age (r = − 0.55), positively with spine and hip BMD and all cortical and trabecular bone density and microstructure parameters evaluated, p < 0.05 all tests. Binary logistic regression defined age (p = 0.008) and cortical thickness (p = 0.018) as main influences on TBS, while ANCOVA demonstrated that HR-pQCT data corrected for age were not different between TBS groups 1 and 2. TBS adjustment increased FRAX risk for major osteoporotic fractures and hip fractures. Conclusion: We describe significant association between TBS and both trabecular and cortical bone parameters measured by HR-pQCT, consistent with TBS influence on fracture risk estimation by FRAX, including hip fractures, where cortical bone predominates. Masses of the ground, orbitally and radially excited states of the asymmetric fully heavy tetraquarks, composed of charm (c ) and bottom (b ) quarks and antiquarks are calculated in the relativistic diquark–antidiquark picture. The relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach and quantum chromodynamics is used to construct the quasipotentials of the quark–quark and diquark–antidiquark interactions. These quasipotentials consist of the short-range one-gluon exchange and long-distance linear confinement interactions. Relativistic effects are consistently taken into account. A tetraquark is considered as a bound state of a diquark and an antidiquark which are treated as a spatially extended colored objects and interact as a whole. It is shown that most of the investigated tetraquarks states (including all ground states) lie above the fall-apart strong decay thresholds into a meson pair. As a result they could be observed as wide resonances. Nevertheless, several orbitally excited states lie slightly above or even below these fall-apart thresholds, thus they could be narrow states. Background and objective: Within the UNIVERSAL project (RIA2019PD-2882) we aim to develop a paediatric dolutegravir (DTG)/emtricitabine (FTC or F)/tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) fixed-dose combination. To inform dosing of this study, we undertook a relative bioavailability (RBA) study in healthy volunteers to investigate a potential pharmacokinetic effect when paediatric formulations of DTG and F/TAF are taken together. Methods: Participants received all of the following treatments as paediatric formulations in randomised order: a single dose of 180/22.5 mg F/TAF; a single dose of 30 mg DTG; a single dose of 180/22.5 mg F/TAF plus 30 mg DTG. Blood concentrations of DTG, FTC, TAF, and tenofovir (TFV) were measured over 48 h post-dose. If the 90% confidence intervals (CIs) of the geometric least squares mean (GLSM) ratios of area under the curve (AUC) and maximum concentration (Cmax) of each compound were within 0.70–1.43, we considered this as no clinically relevant PK interaction. Results: A total of 15 healthy volunteers were included. We did not observe a clinically relevant PK interaction between the paediatric DTG and F/TAF formulations for the compounds DTG, FTC, and TFV. For TAF, the lower boundaries of the 90% CIs of the GLSM ratios of the AUC0–∞ and Cmax fell outside our acceptance criteria of 0.70–1.43. Conclusions: Although TAF AUC and Cmax 90% CIs fell outside the pre-defined criteria (0.62–1.11 and 0.65–1.01, respectively), no consistent effect on TAF PK was observed, likely due to high inter-subject variability. Moreover, there are several reasons to rely on TFV exposure as being more clinically relevant than TAF exposure. Therefore, we found no clinically relevant interactions in this study. Background and Objective: High variability in tacrolimus pharmacokinetics directly after lung transplantation (LuTx) may increase the risk for acute kidney injury (AKI) and transplant rejection. The primary objective was to compare pharmacokinetic variability in patients receiving tacrolimus orally versus intravenously early after LuTx. Methods: Pharmacokinetic and clinical data from 522 LuTx patients transplanted between 2010 and 2020 in two university hospitals were collected to compare orally administered tacrolimus to intravenous tacrolimus early post-transplantation. Tacrolimus blood concentration variability, measured as intrapatient variability (IPV%) and percentage of time within the therapeutic range (TTR%), was analyzed within the first 14 days after LuTx. Secondary outcomes were AKI, acute rejection, length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), and mortality in the ICU and during hospital admission. Results: We included 224 patients in the oral and 298 in the intravenous group. The mean adjusted IPV% was 10.8% (95% confidence interval [CI] 6.9–14.6; p < 0.001) higher in the oral group (27.2%) than the intravenous group (16.4%). The mean TTR% was 7.3% (95% CI − 11.3 to − 3.4; p < 0.001) lower in the oral group (39.6%) than in the intravenous group (46.9%). The incidence of AKI was 46.0% for oral and 42.6% for intravenous administration (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.2; 95% CI 0.8–1.8; p = 0.451). The frequencies of clinically diagnosed acute rejection in the oral and intravenous groups were nonsignificant (24.6% vs 17.8%; OR 1.5 [95% CI 1.0–2.3; p = 0.059]). ICU and hospital mortality rate and ICU length of stay were similar. Conclusions: Administering tacrolimus orally directly after LuTx leads to a higher variability in blood concentrations compared to intravenous administration. Exposure to gender‐related minority stressors, the negative experiences and beliefs that stem from anti‐trans stigma increases transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people's vulnerability to experiencing poor mental health outcomes. This study examined if the relationships between experiences of minority stress and mental health outcomes were mediated by early maladaptive schemas: mental representations shaping the way people view themselves, others and the world. Drawing from a schema therapy perspective, the study additionally examined if caregivers' failure to meet TGD people's core emotional needs was associated with mental health outcomes and if schemas similarly mediated these relationships. A total of 619 TGD adults completed an online survey about early maladaptive schemas, core emotional needs, gender‐related minority stress and psychological distress and wellbeing. Causal mediation analyses indicated that caregivers who did not meet TGD people's core emotional needs and greater experiences of minority stress were associated with increased distress and lower wellbeing. These relationships were mediated by schema severity, particularly the disconnection and rejection and impaired autonomy domains. These findings provide empirical support for the schema therapy model's assumption that unmet core emotional needs are associated with schema formation. For TGD people, maladaptive beliefs about the self, others and world can form in response to manifestations of anti‐trans stigma within the individual, their interpersonal relationships, community and broader society. Caregivers' failure to meet needs, plus experiences of minority stress throughout the individual's system, leads to greater distress and lower wellbeing; however, clinical interventions targeting schemas may improve outcomes for this at‐risk group. Background: Taking patient preference into consideration has received increased attention in the last decades. We conducted a meta‐analysis to estimate the effects of patient preference on clinical outcome, satisfaction and adherence regarding treatment of depression and anxiety. Methods: Pubmed, Embase, PsycINFO and Scopus were searched for (cluster) randomized controlled trials. Twenty‐six randomized controlled clinical trials were included, comprising 3670 participants, examining the effect of patient preference regarding treatment of anxiety and depression on clinical outcome, satisfaction and/or adherence. Results: No effect of patient preference was found on clinical outcome [d = 0.06, 95% CI = (−0.03, 0.15), p = 0.16, n = 23 studies]. A small effect of patient preference was found on treatment satisfaction [d = 0.33, 95% CI = (0.08, 0.59), p = 0.01, n = 6 studies] and on treatment adherence [OR = 1.55, 95% CI = (1.28, 1.87), p < 0.001, n = 22 studies]. Limitations: Patient preference is a heterogeneous concept, future studies should strive to equalize operationalization of preference. Subgroup analyses within this study should be interpreted with caution because the amount of studies per analysed subgroup was generally low. Most studies included in this meta‐analysis focused on patients with depression. The small number of studies (n = 6) on satisfaction, prevents us from drawing firm conclusions. Conclusions: While this meta‐analysis did not find a positive effect of considering patient preference on clinical outcome, it was associated with slightly better treatment satisfaction and adherence. This qualitative study explored therapists' attitudes towards psychotherapy integration. Twenty‐nine psychoanalytic/psychodynamic and cognitive‐behavioural therapy (CBT) therapists completed an open‐ended survey that focused on their personal understanding of psychotherapy integration, examples from their own practice and reflections on improving integrative therapy. Participants were also encouraged to share attitudes and perceptions towards the other therapeutic paradigm (CBT towards psychoanalysis, and vice versa). Thematic analysis revealed three main themes: (1) Positive perceptions and benefits of psychotherapy integration, (2) Negative perceptions and challenges of psychotherapy integration and (3) Proposals for strengthening integration in clinical practice. While most participants had a strong allegiance to their modality, they recognised the need for flexibility and additional techniques from other paradigms to address individual client needs. However, participants raised concerns about the level of knowledge required for integrative work and the epistemological compatibility between CBT and psychoanalysis. Some responses reflected the ongoing 'turf wars' between the two paradigms, with some referring to 'outdated' psychoanalytic ideas and 'dogmatic' evidence‐based hierarchies. Suggestions were made for further development of psychotherapy integration during the training and post‐qualification. The study reflects a generally positive outlook towards integration while recognising the challenges as well as the continuing resistances between CBT and psychoanalytic paradigms. Within the framework of the mean field theory and Monte Carlo simulation, we study the magnetic properties of the semi-infinite mixed spin-1/2 and spin-7/2 Blume-Capel model. In particular, the temperature dependence of magnetization under the effect of surface single-ion anisotropy is established. Depending on the values of the ratio of the surface interactions to the bulk ones, the system can assist the appearance of different generic types of phase diagrams, which present different phase transitions, namely, ordinary, extraordinary, surface and special phase transitions. Aim: The sympathetic nervous and hormonal counterregulatory responses to hypoglycaemia differ between people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and may change along the course of diabetes, but have not been directly compared. We aimed to compare counterregulatory hormone and symptom responses to hypoglycaemia between people with type 1 diabetes, insulin-treated type 2 diabetes and controls without diabetes, using a standardised hyperinsulinaemic-hypoglycaemic clamp. Materials: We included 47 people with type 1 diabetes, 15 with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes, and 32 controls without diabetes. Controls were matched according to age and sex to the people with type 1 diabetes or with type 2 diabetes. All participants underwent a hyperinsulinaemic–euglycaemic-(5.2 ± 0.4 mmol/L)-hypoglycaemic-(2.8 ± 0.13 mmol/L)-clamp. Results: The glucagon response was lower in people with type 1 diabetes (9.4 ± 0.8 pmol/L, 8.0 [7.0–10.0]) compared to type 2 diabetes (23.7 ± 3.7 pmol/L, 18.0 [12.0–28.0], p < 0.001) and controls (30.6 ± 4.7, 25.5 [17.8–35.8] pmol/L, p < 0.001). The adrenaline response was lower in type 1 diabetes (1.7 ± 0.2, 1.6 [1.3–5.2] nmol/L) compared to type 2 diabetes (3.4 ± 0.7, 2.6 [1.3–5.2] nmol/L, p = 0.001) and controls (2.7 ± 0.4, 2.8 [1.4–3.9] nmol/L, p = 0.012). Growth hormone was lower in people with type 2 diabetes than in type 1 diabetes, at baseline (3.4 ± 1.6 vs 7.7 ± 1.3 mU/L, p = 0.042) and during hypoglycaemia (24.7 ± 7.1 vs 62.4 ± 5.8 mU/L, p = 0.001). People with 1 diabetes had lower overall symptom responses than people with type 2 diabetes (45.3 ± 2.7 vs 58.7 ± 6.4, p = 0.018), driven by a lower neuroglycopenic score (27.4 ± 1.8 vs 36.7 ± 4.2, p = 0.012). Conclusion: Acute counterregulatory hormone and symptom responses to experimental hypoglycaemia are lower in people with type 1 diabetes than in those with long-standing insulin-treated type 2 diabetes and controls. The aim of this study is to propose a generalized odd log-logistic Maxwell mixture model to analyze the effect of gender and age groups on lifetimes and on the recovery probabilities of Chinese individuals with COVID-19. We add new properties of the generalized Maxwell model. The coefficients of the regression and the recovered fraction are estimated by maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. Further, some simulation studies are done to compare the regressions for different scenarios. Model-checking techniques based on the quantile residuals are addressed. The estimated survival functions for the patients are reported by age range and sex. The simulation study showed that mean squared errors decay toward zero and the average estimates converge to the true parameters when sample size increases. According to the fitted model, there is a significant difference only in the age group on the lifetime of individuals with COVID-19. Women have higher probability of recovering than men and individuals aged $ \geq $ ≥ 60 years have lower recovered probabilities than those who aged $ { < 60 years. The gas-phase rotational spectra of α-pinene oxide have been recorded using a chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrometer in the 6–18 GHz frequency range. The parent species and all heavy atom isotopologues (13C and 18O) have been observed in their natural abundance. The experimental rotational constants of all isotopic species observed have been determined and used to obtain the substitution (rs) and the effective (r0) structures of the most stable conformer of α-pinene oxide. Calculations using the density functional theories B3LYP, M06-2X, and MN15-L and the ab initio method MP2 level of theory were carried out to check their performance against experimental results. The structure of the heavy atom's skeleton of α-pinene oxide has been compared to that of α-pinene and has shown that epoxidation does not overly affect the structure of the bicycle, validating its robustness. Summary Personality traits have been associated with sleep problems and stress experience. However, their impact on objective sleep and the temporal relationship of stress on sleep has remained elusive. This study examined whether daytime stress predicts sleep the following night, and the moderating role of neuroticism and conscientiousness in this relationship. To introduce stress variability in natural daily stressors, we measured college students (N = 92) during exams (e.g. high academic stress) and at the start of new course period (e.g. low academic stress). Both objective (actigraphy) and subjective sleep, and daily self‐reported stress, were measured for 14 days and personality traits once. Reported daily stress was significantly higher in the exam period compared with baseline, suggesting that our natural manipulation did indeed result in variation in stress levels. Intra‐individual daily variations in stress were not associated with the following night's sleep timing, duration or fragmentation, implying that more stress during the day did not affect sleep the following night. Higher levels of neuroticism were associated with poorer daily subjective sleep quality and higher stress levels over the complete period. Neuroticism did not moderate the temporal association of stress on sleep. Conscientiousness moderated the association between intra‐individual stress and sleep fragmentation, and intra‐individual stress and wake‐up time. This implied that highly conscientious participants experienced less sleep fragmentation and woke‐up earlier after more stressful days. These results suggest an interconnected relationship among stress, sleep and personality. This study clinically implemented a ready-to-use quantitative perfusion (QP) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (QP CMR) workflow, encompassing a simplified dual-bolus gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) administration scheme and fully automated QP image post-processing. Twenty-five patients with suspected obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) underwent both adenosine stress perfusion CMR and an invasive coronary angiography or coronary computed tomography angiography. The dual-bolus protocol consisted of a pre-bolus (0.0075 mmol/kg GBCA at 0.5 mmol/ml concentration + 20 ml saline) and a main bolus (0.075 mmol/kg GBCA at 0.5 mmol/ml concentration + 20 ml saline) at an infusion rate of 3 ml/s. The arterial input function curves showed excellent quality. Stress MBF ≤ 1.84 ml/g/min accurately detected obstructive CAD (area under the curve 0.79; 95% Confidence Interval: 0.66 to 0.89). Combined visual assessment of color pixel QP maps and conventional perfusion images yielded a diagnostic accuracy of 84%, sensitivity of 70% and specificity of 93%. The proposed easy-to-use dual-bolus QP CMR workflow provides good image quality and holds promise for high accuracy in diagnosis of obstructive CAD. Implementation of this approach has the potential to serve as an alternative to current methods thus increasing the accessibility to offer high-quality QP CMR imaging by a wide range of CMR laboratories. Aims: Septic arthritis (SA) of the native knee joint is associated with significant morbidity. This review compared post-operative functional outcomes (patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and range of movement (ROM)) following arthroscopic washout (AW) and open washout (OW) amongst adult patients with SA of the native knee. The need for further operative intervention was also considered. Methods: Electronic databases of PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science and Scopus were searched between 16 February 2023 and 18 March 2023. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and comparative observational analytic studies comparing function (reflected in PROMs or ROM) at latest follow-up following AW and OW were included. A narrative summary was provided concerning post-operative PROMs. Pooled estimates for mean ROM and re-operation rates were conducted using the random-effects model. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment tool-2 for RCTs and the Risk of Bias in Non-Randomized Studies of Interventions tool for observational analytic studies. Results: Of 2580 retrieved citations, 7 articles (1 RCT and 6 cohort studies) met the inclusion criteria. Of these, five had some concerns/moderate risk of bias, and two had serious risk. There was a slight tendency for superior mean PROMs following AW compared with OW, but due to small effect sizes, this was unlikely clinically relevant. Additionally, the use of four different PROMs scales made direct comparisons impossible. AW was associated with superior ROM (mean difference 20.18° (95% CI 14.35, 26.02; p < 0.00001)), whilst there was a tendency for lower re-operation requirements following AW (OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.26, 1.57, p = 0.44). Conclusions: AW was associated with equivalent to superior post-operative function and lower requirement for further intervention compared with OW. Results need to be interpreted cautiously, taking into consideration the methodological and clinical heterogeneity of the included studies. To examine the mediatory role of nature connectedness between tree visibility through windows and mental wellbeing, we conducted a questionnaire survey and examined the mediation effect using both cross-sectional and semi-longitudinal mediation models. We evaluated nature connectedness using the Inclusion of Nature in Self (INS) scale and the Connectedness to Nature Scale (CNS) and measured mental wellbeing using the WHO-5 wellbeing index. Our results showed that participants who could see at least three trees through their windows reported higher levels of both nature connectedness and mental wellbeing compared to those without such visibility. Nature connectedness significantly mediated the relationship between the visibility of trees through windows and mental wellbeing, albeit with a somewhat limited effect. More broadly, this study provides additional evidence in support of the “3” component of the 3-30-300 “rule” for equitable access to greenspace in cities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThe development of an urban greenway as part of a major regeneration project may encourage usage and recreational physical activity (PA). However, how the awareness and perceptions of such a project influence the usage of the greenway and recreational PA after regeneration remains unclear. This study focused on these relationships in the context of a major urban regeneration project, the Connswater Community Greenway (CCG) in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Data were collected from residents living near the CCG at 6 months postimplementation (2016/2017). Awareness, perceptions, and expectations of the CCG were assessed using several self-reported questions. Respondents were split into intervention and control groups based on a 1-mile threshold distance to the CCG from their home address (intervention group ≤1 mile; control group >1 mile). Self-reported CCG usage included both frequency and duration of visits. Recreational PA was evaluated with the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire and PA stages of change measure. We used multilevel linear and logistic regressions to examine awareness, perceptions, and expectations of the CCG on visitation and recreational PA. Results showed that favorable awareness, perceptions, and expectations were positively associated with CCG visits and recreational PA. Frequent and longer durations of CCG visits were also important for encouraging recreational PA. Heavy metals contamination may have negative impacts on the wetland biota, particularly on amphibians, and result in a severe decline globally. Because they cannot be degraded biologically, heavy metals are difficult to remove from the environment. To assess the histopathological biomarkers, some heavy metals Fe, Mn, Pb, Cd, and Cr were analyzed in the livers of Egyptian toads (Sclerophrys regularis) from North Giza (Abu Rawash) and El Wahat Regions (El Bawiti) as well as histological changes. The findings demonstrated that the heavy metals concentrations in the Egyptian toad liver at El Wahat were lower than those recorded in the El Giza region. In accordance with heavy metals burden, hepatic alterations were demonstrated and described. Because the liver is the organ where all types of toxins and chemicals are detoxified, the severity of the hepatic alterations observed in this study may be related to the damaging effects of environmental pollutants on hepatocytes.
