Introduction. To enhance the quality of power and ensure a consistent electricity supply, this study proposes the utilization of a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) system integrated with solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. The innovation involves single DC-link connecting back-to-back voltage-compensating components arranged in series and shunt, forming the PV-UPQC. The shunt compensator utilizes energy from a PV array to address harmonics in the load current. The objective is to mitigate voltage dips and spikes by injecting voltage that is either in phase with or out of phase with the common coupling point through a series compensator. The method combines the benefits of generating renewable energy to enhance electrical quality. The goal of the paper is the power quality enhancement of grid-integrated solar PV system. The novelty of the proposed work consists of enhancement of grid-integrated solar PV system with UPQC. The purpose of integrating a UPQC into a grid-connected solar PV system is to enhance power quality by mitigating issues such as voltage fluctuations, harmonics and reactive power imbalance. Methods. The proposed topology is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink with grid-integrated solar PV system with UPQC. Results. Integrating UPQC with a grid-connected solar PV system yields substantial improvements in power quality. This includes effectively mitigating voltage fluctuations and harmonics, resulting in smoother operation and reduced disturbances on the grid. Practical value. Abstract This paper introduces the design and comprehensive performance evaluation of a novel Multi-Load and Multi-Source DC-DC converter tailored for electric vehicle (EV) power systems. The proposed converter integrates a primary battery power source with a secondary renewable energy source—specifically, solar energy—to enhance overall energy efficiency and reliability in EV applications. Unlike conventional multi-port converters that often suffer from cross-regulation issues and limited scalability, this converter ensures stable power distribution to various EV subsystems, including the motor, air conditioning unit, audio systems, and lighting. A key feature of the design is its ability to independently manage multiple power loads while maintaining isolated outputs, thus eliminating the inductor current imbalance that is common in traditional systems. Experimental validation using a 100 W prototype demonstrated the converter’s ability to deliver stable 24 V and 48 V outputs from a 12 V input, with output voltage deviations kept within ± 1%, significantly improving upon the ± 5% deviations typically seen in existing converters. Furthermore, the system achieved an impressive 93% efficiency under variable load conditions. The modular nature of the converter makes it not only suitable for EV applications but also for a broader range of industries, including renewable energy systems and industrial power supplies. This paper concludes by discussing optimization strategies for future improvements and potential scaling of the technology for commercial use in sustainable energy applications.

Abstract This paper introduces a novel design for a universal DC-DC and DC-AC converter tailored for DC/AC microgrid applications using Approximate Dynamic Programming and Artificial Neural Networks (ADP-ANN). The proposed converter is engineered to operate efficiently with both low-power battery and single-phase AC supply, utilizing identical side terminals and switches for both chopper and inverter configurations. This innovation reduces component redundancy and enhances operational versatility. The converter's design emphasizes minimal switch usage while ensuring efficient conversion to meet diverse load requirements from battery or AC sources. A conceptual example illustrates the design's principles, and comprehensive analyses compare the converter's performance across various operational modes. A test bench model, rated at 3000W, demonstrates the converter's efficacy in all five operational modes with AC/DC inputs. Experimental results confirm the system's robustness and adaptability, leveraging ADP-ANN for optimal performance. The paper concludes by outlining potential applications, including microgrids, electric vehicles, and renewable energy systems, highlighting the converter's key advantages such as reduced complexity, increased efficiency, and broad applicability.

Abstract This research paper introduces an avant-garde poly-input DC–DC converter (PIDC) meticulously engineered for cutting-edge energy storage and electric vehicle (EV) applications. The pioneering converter synergizes two primary power sources—solar energy and fuel cells—with an auxiliary backup source, an energy storage device battery (ESDB). The PIDC showcases a remarkable enhancement in conversion efficiency, achieving up to 96% compared to the conventional 85–90% efficiency of traditional converters. This substantial improvement is attained through an advanced control strategy, rigorously validated via MATLAB/Simulink simulations and real-time experimentation on a 100 W test bench model. Simulation results reveal that the PIDC sustains stable operation and superior efficiency across diverse load conditions, with a peak efficiency of 96% when the ESDB is disengaged and an efficiency spectrum of 91–95% during battery charging and discharging phases. Additionally, the integration of solar power curtails dependence on fuel cells by up to 40%, thereby augmenting overall system efficiency and sustainability. The PIDC’s adaptability and enhanced performance render it highly suitable for a wide array of applications, including poly-input DC–DC conversion, energy storage management, and EV power systems. This innovative paradigm in power conversion and management is poised to significantly elevate the efficiency and reliability of energy storage and utilization in contemporary electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructures.

Introduction. This research paper describes a simple five-level single-phase pulse-width modulated inverter topology for photovoltaic grid applications. Multilevel inverters, as opposed to conventional two-level inverters, include more than two levels of voltage while using multiple power switches and lower-level DC voltage levels as input to produce high power, easier, and less modified oscillating voltage. The H-bridge multilevel inverter seems to have a relatively simple circuit design, needs minimal power switching elements, and provides higher efficiency among various types of topologies for multi-level inverters that are presently accessible. Introduction. This research presents a simple single-phase pulse-width modulated 7-level inverter topology for renewable system which allows home-grid applications with electric vehicle charging. Although multilevel inverters have appealing qualities, their vast range of application is limited by the use of more switches in the traditional arrangement. As a result, a novel symmetrical 7-level inverter is proposed, which has the fewest number of unidirectional switches with gate circuits, providing the lowest switching losses, conduction losses, total harmonic distortion and higher efficiency than conventional topology. The novelty of the proposed work consists of a novel modular inverter structure for photovoltaic energy system and electric vehicle applications with fewer numbers of switches and compact in size. Introduction. The need for electrical energy has been increased sharply due to hasty growth in industrials, social and economic improvements. From the previous studies, it has been agreed that almost 13 % of the total power generated is wasted as heat loss at distribution level. It has been extensively recognized that the node voltage profile along the distribution system can be enhanced under steady state power transfer controlled by proper reactive power compensation. Capacitors have been acknowledged as reactive power compensating device in distribution systems to achieve technical and economical benefits. Novelty of this work is the application of Archimedes optimization algorithm for reactive power optimization in distribution systems so as to obtain an improved solution and also a real 94-bus Portuguese network and modified 12-bus network has been taken and validated for three different load levels which are totally new. Purpose of the proposed work is to maximize the economic benefit by reducing the power loss and capacitor purchase cost at three different load conditions subject to satisfaction of equality and inequality constraints. Methods. The economic benefit has been validated using Archimedes optimization algorithm for three load levels considering three distribution systems. Results. The computational outcomes indicated the competence of the proposed methodology in comparison with the previously published works in power loss minimization, bus voltage enhancement and more economical benefit and proved that the proposed methodology performs well compared to other methods in the literature.

Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters (CHB-MLI) are becoming increasingly used in applications such as distribution systems, electrical traction systems, high voltage direct conversion systems, and many others. Despite the fact that multilevel inverters contain a large number of control switches, detecting a malfunction takes a significant amount of time. Fault is identified automatically by means of artificial neural network (ANN) technique using sinusoidal pulse width modulation based on distorted total harmonic distortion (THD) and managed by its own. Using the FFT and ANN approaches, the normal and faulty conditions of the MLI are explored, and the faulty switch is detected based on voltage changing patterns in the output. Practical value. This paper proposes DC–AC Dual-leg dual-stage Conversion (DDC) and DC–AC Direct single-stage conversions (DSC). Conventional energy conversion system has only two-stage conversion, so it has some drawbacks such as huge power loss, less conversion range and lower power rating. So direct conversion, dual-leg step-up and step-up conversions are the solutions to get wide voltage conversion efficiently. The proposed converter can perform the power conversion from battery DC supply into AC with 1:1 ratio, step-up AC, and step-down AC in both directions. Also, it can perform rectifier operation from grid AC supply into DC with 1:1 ratio, step-down DC, and step-up DC. Step-up, step-down and ideal operations are possible within a single circuit; its operation is similar to solid-state DC–AC/AC–DC transformer. The ideal operation, Step-down to Step-up conversion and Step-up to Step-down conversion are possible on both sides, so this converter can handle a wide range of voltage. Power distribution is achieved with voltage regulation between battery/DC-load and AC-load/grid using the proposed control strategy with proper modulation. A prototype model of a 2-kW power rating validates the advantages and feasibility of the proposed methodology.

In recent times, multilevel inverters are used as a high priority in many sizeable industrial drive applications. However, the reliability and performance of multilevel inverters are affected by the failure of power electronic switches. In this paper, the failure of power electronic switches of multilevel inverters is identified with the help of a high-performance diagnostic system during the open switch and low condition. Experimental and simulation analysis was carried out on five levels cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter, and its output voltage waveforms were synthesized at different switch fault cases and different modulation index parameter values. Salient frequency-domain features of the output voltage signal were extracted using a Fast Fourier Transform decomposition technique. The real-time work of the proposed fault diagnostic system was implemented through the LabVIEW software. The Offline Artificial neural network was trained using the MATLAB software, and the overall system parameters were transferred to the LabVIEW real-time system. With the proposed method, it is possible to identify the individual faulty switch of multilevel inverters successfully.

The existing neutral clamped active inverter has common mode voltage with the high frequency which can reduce the severity with less voltage gain. The traditional active neutral point clamped (APC) DC–AC converter maintains great common mode voltage with high-frequency (CMV-HF) reduction capability so, it has limited voltage gain. The paper presents a new 5-level active neutral point clamped DC–AC converter that can change voltage step-up in a single-stage inversion. In the suggested design, a common ground not only reduces the CMV-HF but also improves DC link voltage use. Compared with the traditional two-stage 5-level APC DC–AC converter, the proposed design has lower voltage stresses and greater uniformity. While improving the overall efficiency, the suggested clamped DC–AC converter saves three power switches and a capacitor. Modelling and actual tests have proven the suggested active neutral point clamped inverter's overall operation, efficacy and achievability. A newly designed DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter (DATBC) with an encapsulated DC–DC converter (EDC) for the energy storage system (ESD) is analysed and investigated in this research paper. By using encapsulated or embedded or hidden DC–DC converter a stable and constant DC bus is developed between the encapsulated DC–DC converter and DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter. The proposed converter is entirely different from the traditional dual-stage DC–AC converter, because it takes less than 20% of power used for the DC–AC conversion process. So, this reduced power consumption increases efficiency to a considerable value. A new control technique for zero sequence has been adopted components are inserted in the modulating signal based on carrier pulse width modulation (CPWM). Working principle, implementation and characteristics of the DC–AC three phase bidirectional converter are analysed. This paper details the hardware implementation of a Universal Converter controlled by an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), utilizing key components such as six Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), two inductors, and two capacitors for energy storage and voltage smoothing. A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) serves as the core controller, processing real-time input and feedback signals, including voltage and current measurements, to dynamically manage five operational modes: rectifier buck, inverter boost, DC-DC buck, DC-DC boost, and AC voltage control. The pre-trained ANN algorithm generates pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals to control the switching of the IGBTs, optimizing timing and duty cycles for efficient operation. The system effectively accommodates both AC and DC inputs, ensuring stable outputs with minimal ripple by dynamically selecting the appropriate mode based on load requirements. Experimental results demonstrated that the ANN controller maintained total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5% in rectifier and inverter modes while achieving an overall efficiency of 94-96% in DC-DC modes. The controller's capability to adapt to real-time feedback significantly improved power conversion quality and reduced switching losses.
