Early-stage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a silent condition, with most cases going undiagnosed, potentially progressing to liver cirrhosis and cancer. A non-invasive and cost-effective detection method for early-stage NAFLD detection is a public health priority but challenging. In this study, an adhesive, soft on-skin sensor with low electrode-skin contact impedance for early-stage NAFLD detection is fabricated. A method is developed to synthesize platinum nanoparticles and reduced graphene quantum dots onto the on-skin sensor to reduce electrode-skin contact impedance by increasing double-layer capacitance, thereby enhancing detection accuracy. Furthermore, an attention-based deep learning algorithm is introduced to differentiate impedance signals associated with early-stage NAFLD in high-fat-diet-fed low-density lipoprotein receptor knockout (Ldlr-/-) mice compared to healthy controls. The integration of an adhesive, soft on-skin sensor with low electrode-skin contact impedance and the attention-based deep learning algorithm significantly enhances the detection accuracy for early-stage NAFLD, achieving a rate above 97.5% with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 1.0. The findings present a non-invasive approach for early-stage NAFLD detection and display a strategy for improved early detection through on-skin electronics and deep learning.

Machine learning (ML)-driven diagnosis systems are particularly relevant in pediatrics given the well-documented impact of early-life health conditions on later-life outcomes. Yet, early identification of diseases and their subsequent impact on length of hospital stay for this age group has so far remained uncharacterized, likely because access to relevant health data is severely limited. Thanks to a confidential data use agreement with the California Department of Health Care Access and Information, we introduce Ped-BERT: a state-of-the-art deep learning model that accurately predicts the likelihood of 100+ conditions and the length of stay in a pediatric patients next medical visit. We link mother-specific pre- and postnatal period health information to pediatric patient hospital discharge and emergency room visits. Our data set comprises 513.9K mother-baby pairs and contains medical diagnosis codes, length of stay, as well as temporal and spatial pediatric patient characteristics, such as age and residency zip code at the time of visit. Following the popular bidirectional encoder representations from the transformers (BERT) approach, we pre-train Ped-BERT via the masked language modeling objective to learn embedding features for the diagnosis codes contained in our data. We then continue to fine-tune our model to accurately predict primary diagnosis outcomes and length of stay for a pediatric patients next visit, given the history of previous visits and, optionally, the mothers pre- and postnatal health information. We find that Ped-BERT generally outperforms contemporary and state-of-the-art classifiers when trained with minimum features. We also find that incorporating mother health attributes leads to significant improvements in model performance overall and across all patient subgroups in our data. Our most successful Ped-BERT model configuration achieves an area under the receiver operator curve (ROC AUC) of 0.927 and an average precision score (APS) of 0.408 for the diagnosis prediction task, and a ROC AUC of 0.855 and APS of 0.815 for the length of hospital stay task. Further, we examine Ped-BERTs fairness by determining whether prediction errors are evenly distributed across various subgroups of mother-baby demographics and health characteristics, or if certain subgroups exhibit a higher susceptibility to prediction errors.

BACKGROUND: A lack of high-quality provider education hinders the delivery of standard-of-care delirium detection and prevention practices in the intensive care unit (ICU). To fill this gap, we developed and validated an e-learning ICU Delirium Playbook consisting of eight videos and a 44-question knowledge assessment quiz. Given the increasing Spanish-speaking population worldwide, we translated and cross-culturally adapted the playbook from English into Spanish. OBJECTIVE: To translate and culturally adapt the ICU Delirium Playbook into Spanish, the second most common native language worldwide. METHODS: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process included double forward and back translations and harmonization by a 14-person interdisciplinary team of ICU nurses and physicians, delirium experts, methodologists, medical interpreters, and bilingual professionals representing many Spanish-speaking global regions. After a preeducation quiz, a nurse focus group completed the playbook videos and posteducation quiz, followed by a semistructured interview. RESULTS: The ICU Delirium Playbook: Spanish Version maintained conceptual equivalence to the English version. Focus group participants posted mean (standard deviation) pre- and post-playbook scores of 63% (10%) and 78% (12%), with a 15% (11%) pre-post improvement (P = 0.01). Participants reported improved perceived competency in performing the Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU and provided positive feedback regarding the playbook. CONCLUSION: After translation and cultural adaptation, the ICU Delirium Playbook: Spanish Version yielded significant knowledge assessment improvements and positive feedback. The Spanish playbook is now available for public dissemination.

Pesticide-free agricultural strategies need new tools for disease prevention. Better than early detection of disease, detection of conditions favorable to their appearance can be a progress. In the case of fungal diseases, the presence of water on the plant surface is necessary. In order to detect remotely this presence early and at the scale of a crop field, we propose a low-cost solution based on laser reflection. Here, experimental results in a controlled environment are presented on both hydrophobic and hydrophilic leaves (rapeseed Brassica Napus and grapevine Vitis Vinifera, respectively). We first assess the water detection on a leaf surface by recreating the dew formation process. We next evaluate the influence of the scanning measurement and leaf inclination on the detection to get closer to in-field conditions. Results show that this method is very sensitive on both types of leaves. Water detection is possible from a low surface coverage with a high temporal precision at 1 m. In the hydrophobic case, water on a leaf surface leads to an increase of the detected signal up to three times compared to a dry leaf. The corresponding minimum surface coverage detectable at 1 m is evaluated at 1.6% thanks to 2D ray-tracing numerical simulations. In the hydrophilic case, on the contrary, water on a leaf surface leads to a decrease of the detected signal by almost half. Introduction Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are a leading cause of separation from the U.S. Navy. Data have shown that several psychological responses to MSI are associated with treatment outcomes. Yellow flags are maladaptive psychological responses to injury and predict delayed recovery, whereas pink flags indicate resilience after MSI and are associated with good treatment outcomes. Identifying these factors in patients with MSI would permit early targeted care to address factors that may delay their readiness for deployment and enhance factors that support recovery. Materials and Methods Active duty service members with MSI who reported to physical therapy outpatient services at a naval hospital were recruited for the study. Yellow flags were assessed at baseline as part of a larger study. Participants completed the Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (with two subscales, physical activity and work), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Clinically relevant cut-off scores were used to indicate risk factors of delayed recovery. Pink flags were assessed with the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and a measure of positive outcome expectations for recovery. Results Two hundred and ninety participants responded to some or all of the questionnaires. Of these, 82% exceeded the cut-off scores on the physical activity subscale of the Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire, and 39% did so on the work subscale. Pain catastrophizing exceeded the cut-off in only 4.9% of the sample. Forty-three percent of these exceeded the cut-off for the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; 27% exceeded the cut-off on the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Additionally, 54% endorsed scores greater than 40 on the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, and 53% endorsed a high score on the positive outcome expectations. Conclusions A substantial portion of the sample endorsed elevated scores on one or more indicators of delayed recovery from MSI. Most participants showed a fear of physical activity, and approximately half reported pain-related distress (anxiety and depression). In addition, feelings of self-efficacy and positive outcome expectations of treatment were endorsed by only about half of the participants, indicating that the remaining half did not report adaptive responses to MSI. Early identification of these risk factors will allow for targeted treatment approaches that incorporate these yellow flags into treatment and support a psychologically informed approach to physical therapy. Objective: The age of identification of hearing loss in children is highly influenced by the hearing help seeking behaviour of their parents, particularly in countries without universal newborn hearing screening programs. In this study, an attempt was made to identify the factors associated with help seeking behaviour in parents of children with hearing loss, and the relationship of such factors with the age of identification of hearing loss. Design: Focus group discussions based on the framework of health belief model were carried out. The discussions were transcribed and the transcripts were thematically analysed. Study sample: Participants were 35 parents of children with hearing loss from the state of Karnataka in India. Results: The findings revealed 30 factors related to their awareness about hearing loss, geographical location, socio-economic status, family, and society. The factors differed between early and late help seekers. Conclusions: Awareness, accessibility, and affordability are the key factors that influenced the hearing help seeking behaviour of the participants. Effective public awareness programs, newborn hearing screening programs, and provisions to make hearing healthcare affordable to all can reduce the age of identification of paediatric hearing loss in India. Objective: To identify potential salivary biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression in oral squamous cell carcinoma and oral leukoplakia. Materials and Methods: An advance search from PubMed and Hindawi was performed with keywords; oral leukoplakia/oral squamous cell carcinoma, salivary biomarker and diagnosis/prognosis. An additional search of articles was done through a manual search from the Google Scholar database. Results: Twenty studies involving salivary biomarkers as diagnostic tools for oral squamous cell carcinoma and/or oral leukoplakia were identified. A narrative review was carried out. Conclusion: Single or multiple salivary biomarkers reported by most studies have shown great potential as diagnostic tools for oral squamous cell carcinoma and oral leukoplakia. However, the validation of sensitivity and specificity should be carried out to ensure the accuracy of the biomarkers. Introduction The Head Shake Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT) assesses postural stability while the head is moving and may also identify deficits in attention associated with the dual task conditions of moving the head at a specified speed while maintaining balance. Normative values for the HS-SOT have not been established in a healthy military population or other highly trained populations such as athletes. Establishing normative values in a military population will enable clinicians to compare the scores of patients with medical conditions that affect postural stability and sensory integration such as concussion or traumatic brain injury, vestibular dysfunction, or migraine to those of a healthy population to determine a need for intervention and for return to duty considerations. The purposes of this cross-sectional study were to establish normative values for the HS-SOT within the military population, to determine whether HS-SOT scores differed between men and women or among age groups, and to determine whether HS-SOT scores differed from scores on similar conditions of the Sensory Organization Test (SOT). Materials and Methods Active duty service members (n  = 237, 54 female) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the National Capitol Region (Washington, D.C, Maryland, and Virginia) completed the SOT and HS-SOT on the NeuroCom® Balance Master™. Parametric and non-parametric comparisons were analyzed for the equilibrium scores for the SOT and HS-SOT conditions 2 (SOT-2, HS-SOT-2, respectively) and 5 (SOT-5, HS-SOT-5, respectively) and the equilibrium score ratios (ESRs) for HS-SOT-2 and HS-SOT-5 for the total sample, men and women, and age group categories (18–26 years, 27–35 years, and 36–45 years). Results There were no differences in HS-SOT-2 or HS-SOT-5 equilibrium ratio scores between men (0.99 ±.029 and 0.83 ±0.25, respectively) and women (1.00 ±0.03 and 0.81 ±0.21, respectively). There were no differences in the SOT-2 equilibrium scores (F = 2.29, P  = 0.10) or SOT-5 equilibrium scores (Kruskal-Wallis H = 3.26, P  = 0.20) among the different age groups. SOT-2 equilibrium scores were higher than the HS-SOT-2 equilibrium scores (Z = –4.10, P  < 0.001). SOT-5 equilibrium scores were also higher than HS-SOT-5 equilibrium scores (Z = –12.22, P  < 0.001), and the HS-SOT-2 and HS-SOT-5 equilibrium scores differed from each other (Z = –13.26, P  < 0.001). Conclusions This study established normative values for the HS-SOT in a military population. Equilibrium scores did not differ between men and women or among age groups, suggesting that these values can be used as reference points for most service members. Postural stability was found to be significantly challenged during head motion, indicating the HS-SOT is a valuable tool for identifying subtle impairments in postural stability. These findings have important implications for early detection and intervention in individuals with medical conditions affecting balance, particularly concussions or vestibular disorders. Developmental monitoring/screening predict early identified autism spectrum disorders (ASD), but studies have not yet robustly controlled for a key health care service impacting early identification: medical home. National Surveys of Children's Health (NSCH; 2016–2020) were used to determine the relationship between medical home, developmental monitoring/screening, and identified ASD. NSCH overall medical home variable had a minimal relationship with ASD (under 5 years of age, under 5 identified in last year, under 5 identified over a year prior). Usual source of care was positively, and care coordination negatively, associated with ASD identified in last year, suggesting the overall medical home variable may mask variance from subscales. The aim was to test the use of eye-tracking methodology for the early detection of ASD in a task of association between unfamiliar objects and pseudowords. Significant differences were found between ASD (n = 57) and TD (n = 57) Spanish speaking toddlers in the number and time of fixation. The TD children showed more and longer fixations on eyes and mouth while the ASD children attended almost exclusively to objects, making it difficult to integrate lexical and phonological information. Moreover, the TD toddlers looked at the mouth when the pseudoword was produced while the ASD toddlers did not. Gaze fixation on eyes and mouth during word learning recorded by eye-tracking may be used as a biomarker for the early diagnosis of ASD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aims: Few studies have focused on the outcomes of Wilson's disease (WD) diagnosed before age of 5 years. This study aimed to summarize the clinical features of early diagnosed WD and analyse treatment outcomes and the risk factors associated with treatment failure. Methods: A total of 139 children confirmed with WD before 5 years were enrolled in this study. Only patients with follow‐up over 1 year were analysed with Kaplan–Meier survival analysis. The composite outcomes included death, progression to liver failure or acute hepatitis, development of renal or neurological symptoms and persistent elevation of alanine aminotransferase (ALT). The treatment failure was defined as occurrence of at least one of above outcomes. Results: Among 139 WD patients at diagnosis, two (1.4%) WD patients presented with symptomatic liver disease, whereas 137 (98.6%) were phenotypically asymptomatic, including 135 with elevated ALT and 2 with normal liver function. Median serum ceruloplasmin (Cp) was 3.1 mg/dL, and urinary copper excretion was 87.4 μg/24‐h. There were 71 variants identified in the the copper‐transporting ATPase beta gene, and 29 were loss of function (LOF). 51 patients with LOF variant were younger at diagnosis and had lower Cp than 88 patients without LOF. Among 93 patients with over 1 year of follow‐up, 19 (20.4%) received zinc monotherapy, and 74 (79.6%) received a zinc/D‐penicillamine combination therapy. 14 (15.1%) patients underwent treatment failure, and its occurrence was associated with poor compliance (p <.01). Conclusions: Cp is a reliable biomarker for early diagnosis, and zinc monotherapy is an effective treatment for WD during early childhood. Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are common in young adults, particularly women, who tend to develop multiple FGIDs over time. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of multiple concurrent FGIDs among female university students and identify differences in dietary habits, academic stress, and quality of life (QOL) based on the number of concurrent FGIDs. This secondary analysis included data from 406 female participants, originally collected through an online survey from two universities in one city in Korea. The online survey was accessible only after participants were verified as students through their online community. Concurrent FGID was present in 25.8 percent (n = 16) of the participants with FGIDs (n = 62), with the most common being irritable bowel syndrome + functional dyspepsia overlap (43.8 percent, 7/16). Participants with multiple concurrent FGIDs consumed fewer grains and vegetables, while significantly more of them consumed instant food, fast food, milk, and tea/coffee. They experienced significantly higher academic stress and lower QOL than those without the disease. Female university students with concurrent FGIDs tend to have unhealthy dietary habits, and concurrent FGIDs negatively affect academic stress and QOL. Therefore, female university students should undergo early-stage screening for FGIDs, and a comprehensive program should address their dietary habits and stress-coping skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natriuretic peptides (NP) play an essential role in heart failure (HF) regulation, and their measurement has improved diagnostic and prognostic accuracy. Clinical symptoms and objective measurements, such as NP levels, should be included in the HF definition to render it more reliable and consistent among observers, hospitals, and healthcare systems. BNP and NT-proBNP are reasonable surrogates for cardiac disease, and their measurement is critical to early diagnosis and risk stratification of HF patients. NPs should be measured in all patients presenting with dyspnea or other symptoms suggestive of HF to facilitate early diagnosis and risk stratification. Both BNP and NT-proBNP are currently used for guided HF management and display comparable diagnostic and prognostic accuracy. Standardized cutoffs for each NP assay are essential for data comparison. The value of NP testing is recognized at various levels, including patient empowerment and education, analytical and operational issues, clinical HF management, and cost-effectiveness. Purpose: While the unmet healthcare needs are still being improved upon, the wellbeing of cancer patients has increasingly become a prime concern in Malaysia. The objective of this study is to ascertain the trend of unmet supportive care needs, post-traumatic growth (P T G), coping strategies, and social supports among patients with breast cancer over the three time points of treatment: T1 at early diagnosis, T2 for three months after diagnosis, and T3 for six months after diagnosis. Methods: A total of 240 cancer patients participated in this prospective cohort study, with follow-up visits from October 2019 until July 2021. Data were collected using several instruments: Brief COP E, the Source of Social Support Scale (SSSS), the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory - Short Form (P T GI-SF), and a Malay version of the 34-Item Shortform Supportive Care Need Survey (SCNS-SF34). Results: The results indicated a significant change from T1 to T3 for all domains of the unmet needs (p-value < 0.001), except for the sexual domain. A lower SCNS-SF34 score resulted from more unfavorable social support. The P T GI-SF results indicated a trend toward meeting the unmet needs, and a higher SCNS-SF-34 score predicted a considerably higher P T GI-SF score. Conclusions: Our study findings suggest that majority of the factors evaluated in terms of unmet needs among cancer patients have undergone considerable changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims and Objectives: Contextual information which is implicitly available to physicians during clinical encounters has been shown to influence diagnostic reasoning. To better understand the psychological mechanisms underlying the influence of context on diagnostic accuracy, we conducted a review of experimental research on this topic. Method: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus for relevant articles and looked for additional records by reading the references and approaching experts. We limited the review to true experiments involving physicians in which the outcome variable was the accuracy of the diagnosis. Results: The 43 studies reviewed examined two categories of contextual variables: (a) case‐intrinsic contextual information and (b) case‐extrinsic contextual information. Case‐intrinsic information includes implicit misleading diagnostic suggestions in the disease history of the patient, or emotional volatility of the patient. Case‐extrinsic or situational information includes a similar (but different) case seen previously, perceived case difficulty, or external digital diagnostic support. Time pressure and interruptions are other extrinsic influences that may affect the accuracy of a diagnosis but have produced conflicting findings. Conclusion: We propose two tentative hypotheses explaining the role of context in diagnostic accuracy. According to the negative‐affect hypothesis, diagnostic errors emerge when the physician's attention shifts from the relevant clinical findings to the (irrelevant) source of negative affect (for instance patient aggression) raised in a clinical encounter. The early‐diagnosis‐primacy hypothesis attributes errors to the extraordinary influence of the initial hypothesis that comes to the physician's mind on the subsequent collecting and interpretation of case information. Future research should test these mechanisms explicitly. Possible alternative mechanisms such as premature closure or increased production of (irrelevant) rival diagnoses in response to context deserve further scrutiny. In the American regions, Brazil accounts for 97% of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) cases, with a case fatality rate of approximately 10%. This study aimed to investigate the VL mortality distribution in Brazil and identify high-priority and high-risk areas for intervention strategies. This was an ecological study that analysed the spatial–temporal patterns of VL mortality in Brazilian municipalities. Age-standardised VL mortality rates from the Global Burden of Disease study from 2001 to 2018 were used. The distribution of mortality in the municipalities was assessed, and subsequently the Local Index of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA) analysis was conducted to identify contiguous areas with high mortality rates. Scan analysis identified clusters of high spatial–temporal risks. The highest mortality rates and clusters were in municipalities located in the Northeast region and in the states of Tocantins and Roraima (North region), Mato Grosso do Sul (Central-West region), and Minas Gerais (Southeast region). According to LISA, there was an increase in the number of municipalities classified as high priority from the first 3-year period (n = 434) to the last 3-year period (n = 644). The spatio-temporal analysis identified 21 high-risk clusters for VL mortality. Areas with a high risk of VL mortality should prioritise preventing transmission, invest in early diagnosis and treatment, and promote the training of healthcare professionals. Background: Depressive moods and behaviors are developmentally normative, yet potentially impairing, in preschool‐aged children. In addition to frequency, duration of behavior is an important parameter to consider when characterizing risk for worsening mood dysregulation. The goal of this study was to identify the duration and severity of depressive moods and behaviors and associations with impairment in a large community sample of preschool‐aged children using an online parent‐report daily diary. Methods: Primary caregivers (N = 900) of 3–5‐year‐old children reported the daily duration of each instance of seven depressive moods and behaviors for 14 days. We used item response theory analyses to examine duration item characteristics. Results: Moods and behaviors occurred at specific durations to be considered psychometrically severe/rare; for example, instances of sadness had to last an average total of 32 min per day or more, irritability at least 38 min, tantrums at least 30 min, and tearfulness/sensitivity at least 35 min. Longer durations of mood and behavior were associated with daily impairment, as well as older child age and less parental education. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study to delineate specific duration ranges for depressive moods and behaviors in preschool‐aged children. These data, coupled with information about the frequency of mood‐related behaviors, can assist child practitioners in differentiating normative patterns from less normative mood problems to evaluate which children may be at risk. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of diabetes which may lead to blindness. Early diagnosis can effectively prevent the deterioration of the disease and enable timely treatment. Ophthalmologists diagnose DR by observing ultra-wide optical coherence tomography angiography (UW-OCTA) images, which visualize unprecedented detail of DR lesions. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end task-specific network (TSNet) for joint DR grading and lesion segmentation of UW-OCTA images. Specifically, we design task-specific attention block to generate task-specific feature maps for respective segmentation and classification tasks. Furthermore, we devise task-specific fusion block to fuse the original task-specific feature map and augmented task-specific feature map for the following segmentation and classification decoders to generate DR lesion predictive mask and DR grading predictive result. Experiments on a public-available UW-OCTA dataset demonstrate that our model outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) multi-task models and achieves promising results on both DR lesion segmentation and DR grading classification tasks [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of dopamine neurons and aberrant deposits of alpha‐synuclein (α‐syn) in the brain. The symptomatic treatment is started after the onset of motor manifestations in a late stage of the disease. Preclinical studies with neurotrophic factors (NTFs) show promising results of disease‐modifying neuroprotective or even neurorestorative effects. Four NTFs have entered phase I–II clinical trials with inconclusive outcomes. This is not surprising because the preclinical evidence is from acute early‐stage disease models, but the clinical trials included advanced PD patients. To conclude the value of NTF therapies, clinical studies should be performed in early‐stage patients with prodromal symptoms, that is, before motor manifestations. In this review, we summarize currently available diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers that could help identify at‐risk patients benefiting from NTF therapies. Focus is on biochemical and imaging biomarkers, but also other modalities are discussed. Neuroimaging is the most important diagnostic tool today, but α‐syn imaging is not yet viable. Modern techniques allow measuring various forms of α‐syn in cerebrospinal fluid, blood, saliva, and skin. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most prevalent subtype of lung cancer, and the early detection and diagnosis of this disease are crucial in reducing mortality rates. The timely diagnosis of LUAD is essential for controlling tumour development and enabling early surgical treatment. GPR56 is a vital G protein‐coupled receptor and its role in T lymphocytes has received considerable attention. However, its function in B cells remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the significance of GPR56 in LUAD. We found that GPR56 exhibited a significant increase in circulating plasmablasts and a decrease in new memory B cells. GPR56 expression in B cells was significantly reduced after LPS stimulation and the proportion of HLA‐DR+ and CD40+ proportions were also decreased in GPR56+ B cells after stimulation. Additionally, GPR56 exhibited significant down‐regulation in circulating B cell subsets of early‐stage LUAD patients, and there were significant correlations between GPR56+ B cell subsets and tumour markers. In conclusion, GPR56 could reflect the hypoactivation state of B cells and the decreased proportion of GPR56+ B cell subset in LUAD patients can signify the active humoral immunity in vivo. Sepsis is the second leading cause of pregnancy-related mortality in the United States. Early recognition, treatment, and escalation of care for the obstetric patient affected by sepsis mitigate the risk of mortality and improve patient outcomes. In this article, we provide an overview of maternal sepsis and address topics of maternal pathophysiology, early warning signs, diagnostic criteria, early goal-directed therapy, and contemporary critical care practices. Objectives: Patients in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) who are high in interpersonal sensitivity may have difficulty fully engaging in treatment because therapy sessions require intimate interpersonal interactions that are especially uncomfortable for these individuals. The current study tests the hypotheses that patients who are high in interpersonal sensitivity benefit less from CBT for symptoms of depression and anxiety, show a slower rate of change in those symptoms, and are more likely to drop out of treatment. Methods: Participants were 832 outpatients who received naturalistic CBT. We assessed interpersonal sensitivity before treatment began and depression and anxiety symptoms at every therapy session. We assessed early, premature, and uncollaborative termination after treatment ended. We constructed multilevel linear regression models and logistic regression models to assess the effects of baseline interpersonal sensitivity on the treatment outcome, the slope of change in depression and anxiety symptoms, and each type of dropout. Results: Higher baseline interpersonal sensitivity was associated with a slower rate of change and less overall change in anxiety but not depressive symptoms. Baseline interpersonal sensitivity was not a predictor of dropout. Conclusions: Interpersonal sensitivity at baseline predicts less change and a slower rate of change in anxiety symptoms. Early detection of elevated interpersonal sensitivity can help therapists take action to address these barriers to successful treatment and help scientists build decision support tools that accurately predict the trajectory of change in anxiety symptoms for these patients. Aims: Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have expanded their scope beyond indicated uses for diabetes management and are gaining traction among people not living with diabetes (PNLD). CGMs track in time glucose levels and are proposed as tools for the early detection of abnormal glucose and a potential solution for its normalisation through behavioural change, particularly, diet personalisation and motivation of physical activity. This becomes relevance given the growing incidence of metabolic conditions, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Clinical guidelines, however, do not recommend CGMs in contexts outside type 1 diabetes (T1DM) or insulin‐treated T2DM. Therefore, there is a visible disconnect between the indicated and real‐world usage of these medical devices. While the commercial market for CGMs in PNLD is expanding rapidly, a comprehensive and evidence‐based evaluation of the devices' utility in this population has not been done. Therefore, this review aims to formulate a working model for CGM utility in PNLD as proposed by the 'health and wellness' market that advertises and distributes it to these individuals. Methods: We aim to critically analyse the available research addressing components of the working model, that is (1) detection of abnormal glucose; (2) behavioural change, and (3) metabolic health improvement. Results: We find a lack of consistent and high‐quality evidence to support the utility of CGMs for these purposes. We identify significantly under‐reserved areas including clinical benchmarks and scoring procedures for CGM measures, device acceptability, and potential adverse effects of CGMs on eating habits in PNLD. We also raise concerns about the robustness of available CGM research. Conclusion: In the face of these research gaps, we urge for the commercial claims suggesting the utility of the device in PNLD to be labelled as misleading. We argue that there is a regulatory inadequacy that fuels 'off‐label' CGM distribution and calls for the strengthening of post‐market clinical follow‐up oversight for CGMs. We hope this will help to avert the continued misinformation risk to PNLD and 'off‐label' exacerbation of health disparities. Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a syndrome with heterogeneous underlying causes and different rates of disease progression, whose clinical heterogeneity leads to a wide variation in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in clinical practice. The lack of uniform practical recommendations on diagnostic workup and treatment for MCI patients hinders optimal management of these patients, worsening their prognosis. Standardized guidelines for the investigation and follow-up of MCI are therefore urgently required. Aim: Aim of our study was to assess the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to MCI patients in the setting of Italian Memory Clinics. Methods: A survey was delivered to a sample of Italian neurologists through two different phases: a first exploratory phase recording general information about the usual clinical management of patients with MCI, and a subsequent operative phase assessing the practical diagnostic and therapeutic decisions taken in a real life setting to manage subjects with MCI. Results: A total of 121 neurologists participated to the first phase of the survey and 203 patients were enrolled in the second phase. Information gathered in the first phase of the survey highlighted a non-uniform use of diagnostic criteria and procedures for MCI, as well as a very heterogeneous therapeutic strategy among Italian neurologists. In the second phase, recorded data on diagnostic and therapeutic approach confirmed the large variability observed in the first phase of the survey. Conclusions: The results of our study reflect a suboptimal management of MCI patients in Italy and highlight the need of standardized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for this condition. A number of studies have reported that contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging might be used for the early diagnosis of adnexal masses. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CEUS combined with Ovarian−Adnexal Reporting and Data System (O-RADS) ultrasound risk stratification for adnexal masses. Related articles were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library in strict accordance with established standards, and data (including true positive, false positive, false negative, and true negative values) was extracted from the original articles. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 was used to evaluate the quality of articles and the possibility of bias. STATA 12.0 software was used to perform statistical analysis. Five articles that included 598 patients were analyzed in this meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of CEUS combined with O-RADS for the diagnosis of adnexal masses were 0.95 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.91–0.98) and 0.86 (95% CI: 0.79–0.91). Moreover, the positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and area under the curve (AUC) were 6.81 (95% CI: 4.61–10.08), 0.05 (95% CI: 0.03–0.11), 111.30 (95% CI: 65.32–189.65), and 0.97 (95% CI: 0.95–0.98), respectively. The pooled AUC and DOR for the detection of CEUS combined with O-RADS were superior to O-RADS US. Our findings revealed that O-RADS combined with CEUS can improve the diagnostic accuracy of ovarian adnexal masses. • O-RADS and CEUS O-RADS have moderate or high diagnostic efficiency in adnexal masses. • Adding CEUS to O-RADS US has a higher diagnostic accuracy compared with O-RADS US. • The further clinical application of CEUS O-RADS may need a unified standard. Background: Individuals with congenital solitary functioning kidney (SFK) are at an increased risk of kidney damage. According to some studies, the risk is higher in unilateral kidney agenesis (UKA) than in unilateral multicystic dysplastic kidney (UMCDK). We hypothesized that with early detection of children with UKA and UMCDK, there would be no difference in the presence of hypertension, proteinuria, and reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) between UKA and UMCDK. Methods: Based on a long-term follow-up protocol, we evaluated a cohort of 160 children followed from birth for SFK (84 with UKA and 76 with UMCDK) detected by prenatal or routine neonatal ultrasound screening. Hypertension, proteinuria, and reduced GFR were monitored as markers of kidney damage. We compared the characteristics and outcomes of the subgroups of children with UKA and UMCDK. Results: GFR was reduced in 42 (26.2%) children, of whom 41 showed only mild reduction. Hypertension and proteinuria were found in 22 (13.8%) and 14 (8.8%) children, respectively. Combined kidney damage was present in 57 (35.6%) children. The UMCDK and UKA subgroups differed in GFR at final examination, with UMCDK patients being significantly more likely to have normal GFR compared to UKA patients (82% vs. 67%; p = 0.039). Conclusions: One third of the children showed signs of SFK damage, albeit mild. Patients with UKA had reduced GFR significantly more often than those with UMCDK, but did not differ in the rates of hyperfiltration injury or congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) in SFK. Background: Nephrocalcinosis (NC) is characterized by an excessive accumulation of calcium deposits in the kidneys. In children, it is often incidentally discovered with an uncertain prognosis. Case-diagnosis/treatment: A 3-month-old girl suspected to have a milk protein allergy underwent an ultrasound that revealed increased echogenicity in the kidney pyramids suggestive of medullary NC. At the age of 18 months, imaging findings revealed not only hyperechogenicity in the medulla but also in the cortex. Over the course of a long follow-up, her kidneys maintained size within the upper limits but showed an increase by age 7. Genetic analysis identified PKHD1 variants, which required structural predictive tools to guide clinical diagnosis. Until the age of 7, her kidney function has remained intact; however, her prognosis is uncertain. Conclusions: NC in newborns is a rare condition, but its incidence is rising. Recurrent urinary infections or kidney stones may lead to kidney failure. A proactive approach in sporadic NC enables an early diagnosis to orientate clinical supervision and facilitates counseling to support family planning decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Early diagnosis is extremely important for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as other children having developmental disabilities. In early diagnosis, which is one of the most important elements of the treatment process, parents have a special place with different factors. Considering the importance of parents in early diagnosis, the aim of the study is to examine the opinions of the mother on early developmental differences in children with autism. The research is a case study designed in a qualitative research model. Accordingly, an interview form was developed by the researchers and data were collected in the scanning model in the first step of the study. In the second step of the study, data were obtained by using the semi-structured interview method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In the study group of the research, 110 mothers were interviewed, whom were selected via purposeful sampling, and 87 mothers, who gave full answers to the questions, were included in the study. The data obtained were subjected to descriptive and thematic analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that children diagnosed with autism and children with development showed similar developmental characteristics during pregnancy and after birth. It was observed that mothers with a child diagnosed with autism have the awareness on the suspicion of autism in their children when they are between 18 and 24 months and 31 and 36 months, and they experienced problems in breast-feeding and falling asleep. Despite carrying an excess risk of cardiovascular events, primary aldosteronism (PA) is a commonly overlooked secondary form of arterial hypertension. An increased awareness of its high prevalence and broader screening strategies are urgently needed to improve its detection rate and allow early diagnosis and targeted treatment. For patients with unilateral PA, these measures can correct hyperaldosteronism and ensure cure of hypertension, even when resistant to drug treatment, thus preventing adverse cardiovascular events. Among these, atrial fibrillation is the most common, but left ventricular hypertrophy, stroke, chronic kidney disease, and myocardial infarction also occur more often than in patients with hypertension and no PA. Young patients, who have higher chances of being cured long term, and high-risk patients, such as those with stage III or resistant hypertension, are those who will benefit most from an early diagnosis of PA. Therefore, the implementation of strategies to detect PA by a simplified diagnostic algorithm is necessary. In the patients who seek for surgical cure, adrenal vein sampling is key for the identification of unilateral PA and the achievement of optimal outcomes. Unfortunately, being technically demanding and poorly available, adrenal vein sampling represents the bottleneck in the workup of PA. Considering the novel knowledge generated in the past 5 years in many studies, particularly in the AVIS-2 study (Adrenal Vein Sampling International Study-2), based on 4 decades of experience at our center and on the last guidelines, we herein provide an update on the management of PA with recommendations for drug treatment and strategies to avoid adrenal vein sampling wherever it is poorly, or not, available. Background: Adhesive capsulitis (AC), more commonly known as "frozen shoulder", is a painful shoulder condition. The illness progresses through three phases: freezing, frozen and thawing. A gold standard treatment for adhesive capsulitis is not defined. The goal of any treatment is to reduce pain and restore shoulder movement. Objective: Objective of the present study is to evaluate the efficacy of gleno-humeral hydrodistension associated with physical therapy in patients with diagnosed adhesive capsulitis comparing the outcomes in term of pain and range of motion in patients with a phase 1 and a phase 2 disease. Method: Between January 2022 and April 2023, We evaluated 87 patients with adhesive capsulitis, 47 were excluded for others concomitant pathologies, finally 40 patients were enrolled for the study, of whom 23 had capsulitis in stage 1 and 17 in stage 2. Patients were evaluated at baseline and at 2, 4 and 6 months after infiltration recording range of motion in all planes, pain and functionality scores. Results: A significant improvement was recorded in shoulder range of motion in all planes with the except of extension in both groups. Phase 2 patients were able to regain shoulder range of motion in all planes except internal rotation which was recovered with more difficulty. Pain and functionality scores improved significantly between baseline and follow-up visits. Conclusion: Ultrasound-assisted hydrodistention of the glenohumeral joint combined with targeted exercise has been successful in improving pain relief, reducing disability, and increasing range of motion in subjects with stage 1 and 2 adhesive capsulitis, especially if diagnosed before phase 2 (when the range of motion is completely reduced). Background: Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) have a major impact on patient outcomes in intensive care units (ICUs). Effective prevention relies on early and accurate risk assessment. Traditional risk-assessment tools, such as the Braden Scale, often fail to capture ICU-specific factors, limiting their predictive accuracy. Although artificial intelligence models offer improved accuracy, their "black box" nature poses a barrier to clinical adoption. Objective: To develop an artificial intelligence–based HAPI risk-assessment model enhanced with an explainable artificial intelligence dashboard to improve interpretability at both the global and individual patient levels. Methods: An explainable artificial intelligence approach was used to analyze ICU patient data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care. Predictor variables were restricted to the first 48 hours after ICU admission. Various machine-learning algorithms were evaluated, culminating in an ensemble "super learner" model. The model's performance was quantified using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve through 5-fold cross-validation. An explainer dashboard was developed (using synthetic data for patient privacy), featuring interactive visualizations for in-depth model interpretation at the global and local levels. Results: The final sample comprised 28 395 patients with a 4.9% incidence of HAPIs. The ensemble super learner model performed well (area under curve = 0.80). The explainer dashboard provided global and patient-level interactive visualizations of model predictions, showing each variable's influence on the risk-assessment outcome. Conclusion: The model and its dashboard provide clinicians with a transparent, interpretable artificial intelligence–based risk-assessment system for HAPIs that may enable more effective and timely preventive interventions. This study aimed to identify autophagy-related candidate genes for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and elucidate their potential molecular mechanisms. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and phenotype-associated significant module genes were obtained using the "limma" package and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) based on hippocampal tissue datasets from AD patients and control samples. The intersection between the list of autophagy-related genes (ATGs), DEGs, and module genes was further investigated to obtain AD-autophagy-related differential expression genes (ATDEGs). Subsequently, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was utilized to identify hub genes, and a second intersection was performed with important module genes from the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network to obtain co-hub genes. Finally, a diagnostic model was constructed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis to determine the candidate genes with high diagnostic efficacy in the external validation set. Moreover, immune infiltration analysis was performed on AD patient brain tissues and explore the correlation between candidate genes and immune cells. We further analyzed the expression level of candidate genes in the SH-SY5Y cells with Aβ25–35 (25 µM). Among the 17 identified AD-ATDEGs, ATP6V1E1 stood out with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.869, 0.817, and 0.714 in the external validation set, underscoring its high diagnostic efficacy in both hippocampal and peripheral blood contexts for AD patients. Meanwhile, ATP6V1E1 expression was positively correlated with effector memory CD4 + T cells, while negatively correlated with natural killer T cells and activated CD4 + T cells. Results from quantitative PCR (qPCR) and immunofluorescence assays indicated a reduction in ATP6V1E1 expression, aligning with our database analysis findings. Cardiac arrhythmia identification and categorization are crucial for prompt treatment and better patient outcomes. Arrhythmia identification is the main focus of this study's temporal attention network (TAN)-based multiclass categorization of varied-length electrocardiogram (ECG) data. The suggested TAN is designed to handle variable-duration ECG signals, making it ideal for real-time monitoring. The TAN uses a dynamic snippet extraction approach to choose meaningful ECG segments to ensure the model captures essential properties despite the constraints of processing such heterogeneous data. Training and assessment use a large dataset of atrial fibrillation, ventricular, and supraventricular arrhythmias. The TAN outperforms current approaches in multiclass early arrhythmia classification and is very accurate. Concatenating EfficientNet with CNN layer helped overcome different data and variable-length signals. High accuracy: 98% of normal, 97.1% of atrial fibrillation (AF), 98% of other, and 98% of noisy using the proposed CEEC model. Early arrhythmia diagnosis has improved due to the TAN's ability to effectively identify varied-length ECG data and give interpretability. Apalutamide is a selective androgen receptor signalling inhibitor that is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Skin rash is one of the most common adverse events with apalutamide. Although the majority of rash events are grade 1 and 2, the appearance of skin rash during treatment can lead to dose reduction, a pause in treatment or even treatment discontinuation, especially if patients present late when the rash has become severe. This in turn can result in a significant delay or even a permanent discontinuation in the patient's treatment of prostate cancer. As apalutamide is a generally well tolerated and an effective treatment for many men with advanced prostate cancer, it is extremely important to make attempts to prevent skin problems or to manage them at the earliest stage possible. We therefore have developed practical guidance for the management of apalutamide-related rash, including an infographic with recommendations for rash management by grade. Central to this approach is patient education and awareness. Encouraging patients to proactively care for their skin from the start of treatment and informing them of the risk of rash with apalutamide therapy are essential. If the patient observes any skin changes, they should be advised to report it straight away to their cancer care team. Adopting this simple, proactive approach of patient education and increased vigilance from the care team is expected to lead to early identification of rash and subsequent intervention to allow for quicker resolution and enable patients to continue their cancer treatment with a drug that can delay disease progression and increase survival in patients with prostate cancer. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) based on deep learning (DL) algorithms has shown promise in enhancing the speed and accuracy of dental anomaly detection in paediatric dentistry. Aim: This systematic review aimed to investigate the performance of AI systems in identifying dental anomalies in paediatric dentistry and compare it with human performance. Design: A systematic search of Scopus, PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted from 2012 to 2022. Inclusion criteria were based on problem/patient/population, intervention/indicator, comparison and outcome scheme and specific keywords related to AI, DL, paediatric dentistry, dental anomalies, supernumerary and mesiodens. Six of 3918 initial pool articles were included, assessing nine DL sub‐systems that used panoramic radiographs or cone‐beam computed tomography. Article quality was assessed using QUADAS‐2. Results: Artificial intelligence systems based on DL algorithms showed promising potential in enhancing the speed and accuracy of dental anomaly detection, with an average of 85.38% accuracy and 86.61% sensitivity. Human performance, however, outperformed AI systems, achieving 95% accuracy and 99% sensitivity. Limitations included a limited number of articles and data heterogeneity. Conclusion: The potential of AI systems employing DL algorithms is highlighted in detecting dental anomalies in paediatric dentistry. To reduce the significant economic losses caused by the fault deterioration of wind turbine generators, it is urgent to detect and diagnose the early faults of generators. The existing condition monitoring and fault diagnosis (CMFD) methods have disadvantages of less considering data temporal characteristic, acquiring early faults with difficulty, and having lower diagnostic accuracy. To address those limitations, a novel LSDAE-stacking CMFD method of generators was proposed. Specifically, a multivariate spatiotemporal condition monitoring model (LSDAE) was established by combining the LSTM and SDAE networks, which can detect generator early anomalies through real-time monitoring the reconstruction residual. Then, based on the stacking ensemble algorithm, a multi-classification fault diagnosis model (Stacking) was constructed to identify early fault types, which can integrate advantages of different base-classifiers to achieve a better diagnostic accuracy. Case studies on three actual generator failures were employed to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed LSDAE-stacking method. The results illustrated that, compared with conventional SDAE model, the proposed LSDAE model had higher reconstruction precision and superior early-fault-warning capacities. And compared with traditional algorithms such as SVM, RF, AdaBoost, GBDT and XGBoost, the constructed Stacking model can effectively identify the fault types of generators and had higher diagnostic accuracy. Fracture related infection (FRI) refers to pathogens infecting a fracture site and hence impeding fracture healing. It is a significant complication that carries substantial disease burden and socio-economic costs, but has had limited scientific development. Hence, this paper will review the existing strategies for early detection of FRI, in the form of serum markers, molecular diagnostics and imaging modalities, and further discuss potential future directions for improved detection of FRI. The Anti-infection Global Expert Committee (AIGEC) developed a consensus definition for FRI in 2017, which includes confirmatory and suggestive criteria for diagnosis of FRI. Existing strategies for diagnosis include clinical, laboratory, histopathological, microbiological and radiological investigations. With increasing recognition of FRI, early detection is crucial for early treatment to be enforced. We have identified potential areas for future development in diagnostics for early detection of FRI, which are discussed in this manuscript. They include inflammatory cytokines, serum calcium levels, platelet count, improved management of histopathological and microbiological specimens, metagenomics, wound biomarkers, gut microbiota analysis, and novel imaging technologies. Purpose: Early diagnosis of biliary atresia (BA) is critical for best outcomes, but is challenged by overlapping clinical manifestations with other causes of obstructive jaundice in neonates. We evaluate the performance of the modified Simple BA Scoring System (SBASS) in diagnosing BA. Methods: We performed a prospective, cross-sectional study on infants with cholestatic jaundice (June 2021–December 2022). Modified SBASS scoring was applied and compared to the eventual diagnosis (as per intraoperative cholangiogram (IOC) and liver histopathology). The score (0–6), consists of gall bladder length < 1.6 cm (+ 1), presence of triangular cord sign (+ 1), conjugated bilirubin:total bilirubin ratio > 0.7(+ 2), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) ≥ 200 U/L (+ 2). Results: 73 were included: Fifty-two (71%) had BA. In the non-BA group, 6 (28%) had percutaneous cholangiography (PTC) while 15 (72%) had intraoperative cholangiogram (IOC). At a cut-off of 3, the modified SBASS showed sensitivity of 96.2%, specificity of 61.9% and overall accuracy of 86.3% in diagnosing BA. Area under receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.901. GGT had the highest sensitivity (94.2%), while triangular cord sign showed the highest specificity at 95.2%. Conclusion: The SBASS provides a bedside, non-invasive scoring system for exclusion of BA in infantile cholestatic jaundice and reduces the likelihood of negative surgical explorations. Background Methods Results Conclusions With the rapid increase of chest computed tomography (CT) images, the workload faced by radiologists has increased dramatically. It is undeniable that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) image‐assisted diagnosis system in clinical treatment is a major trend in medical development. Therefore, in order to explore the value and diagnostic accuracy of the current AI system in clinical application, we aim to compare the detection and differentiation of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules between AI system and physicians, so as to provide a theoretical basis for clinical application.Our study encompassed a cohort of 23 336 patients who underwent chest low‐dose spiral CT screening for lung cancer at the Health Management Center of West China Hospital. We conducted a comparative analysis between AI‐assisted reading and manual interpretation, focusing on the detection and differentiation of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules.The AI‐assisted reading exhibited a significantly higher screening positive rate and probability of diagnosing malignant pulmonary nodules compared with manual interpretation (p < 0.001). Moreover, AI scanning demonstrated a markedly superior detection rate of malignant pulmonary nodules compared with manual scanning (97.2% vs. 86.4%, p < 0.001). Additionally, the lung cancer detection rate was substantially higher in the AI reading group compared with the manual reading group (98.9% vs. 90.3%, p < 0.001).Our findings underscore the superior screening positive rate and lung cancer detection rate achieved through AI‐assisted reading compared with manual interpretation. MicroRNA‐21 (MiR‐21) has been confirmed to be upregulated in tumors, and its abnormal expression is closely associated with tumor occurrence. However, the traditional imaging methods are limited to qualitative imaging of miR‐21, and no effective strategy has been developed for monitoring its concentration in vivo during cancer initiation and progression. Herein, a biosensor is created utilizing a NIR‐II ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe to quantitatively monitor dynamic alterations in miR‐21 levels in vivo. The nanoprobe (termed DCNP@DNA2@IR806) is constructed by introducing IR806 as a donor and down‐conversion nanoparticles (DCNP) as the acceptor, using DNA as linkers. Upon miR‐21‐responsive initiation of the nanoprobe, the 1550 nm fluorescent signal of DCNP stimulated by a 808 nm laser (F1550, 808Ex) increased because of the close proximity of IR806 to the DCNP and the subsequent non‐radiative energy transfer (NRET). Meanwhile, the 1550 nm fluorescent signal of DCNP stimulated by a 980 nm laser (F1550, 980Ex) remained stable because of the absence of NRET. This ratiometric NIR‐II fluorescent signal has been confirmed to be a reliable indicator of miR‐21 concentration in vivo. Ovarian cancer is currently the second most common malignant tumor among gynecological cancers worldwide, primarily due to challenges in early diagnosis, high recurrence rates, and resistance to existing treatments. Current therapeutic options are inadequate for addressing the needs of ovarian cancer patients. Ferroptosis, a novel form of regulated cell death with demonstrated tumorsuppressive properties, has gained increasing attention in ovarian malignancy research. A growing body of evidence suggests that ferroptosis plays a significant role in the onset, progression, and incidence of ovarian cancer. Additionally, it has been found that immunotherapy, an emerging frontier in tumor treatment, synergizes with ferroptosis in the context of ovarian cancer. Introduction: With the advent of anti-ß-amyloid therapies, clinical distinction between Aß + and Aß- in cognitive impairment is becoming increasingly important for stratifying referral and better utilization of biomarker assays. Methods: Cognitive profile, rate of decline, neuropsychiatric inventory questionnaire (NPI-Q), and imaging characteristics were collected from 52 subjects with possible/probable AD. Results: Participants with Aß+ status had lower baseline MMSE scores (24.50 vs. 26.85, p = 0.009) and higher total NPI-Q scores (2.73 vs. 1.18, p < 0.001). NPI-Q score was found to be the only independent predictor for ß-amyloid positivity (p = 0.008). A simple scoring system, namely Clinical ß-Amyloid Positivity Prediction Score (CAPS), was developed by using the following parameters: NPI-Q, rapidity of cognitive decline, and white matter microangiopathy. Data from 48 participants were included in the analysis of accuracy of CAPS. CAP Score of 3 or 4 successfully classified Aß+ individuals in 86.7% cases. Discussion: Clinical ß-Amyloid Positivity Prediction Score is a simple clinical tool for use in primary care and memory clinic settings to predict ß-amyloid positivity in individuals with clinical Alzheimer Syndrome can potentially facilitate referral for Anti Aß therapies. Peripheral neuropathy is a prevalent complication in plasma cell disorders, posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This study presents three cases initially diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Despite initial symptom regression post-immunomodulatory treatment, the patients exhibited progressive neurological deficits. Advanced laboratory evaluation confirmed monoclonal protein presence, yet traditional diagnostic methods, including bone marrow biopsy and flow cytometry, yielded normal results. Utilizing 18F-FDG PET/CT, we identified multiple hypermetabolic vertebral lesions, which upon biopsy, confirmed the diagnosis of plasmacytoma. Our findings underscore the utility of PET/CT as a reliable diagnostic tool for monoclonal gammopathy associated neuropathy, advocating for its consideration in cases with equivocal diagnosis. When the diagnosis is in doubt, biopsy of a lesion may facilitate early and accurate diagnosis, potentially influencing treatment strategies and patient outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
