Nanotechnology's impact on semiconductor industry advancement, particularly through the engineering of nanostructures like nanowires, opens new possibilities for material functionality due to the tunable physical properties of nanostructures compared to bulk materials. This paper presents a comprehensive study on group IV semiconductors and their binaries across four polytypes: 2H, 3C, 4H, and 6H, focusing on their optoelectronic application potential. Deep understanding of these polytypes is particularly relevant for nanowire-based technologies. Through first principles modeling, we examine the structural and electronic properties of these materials, emphasizing their band structure, stability, and the feasibility for light-emitting applications. We use a generalized Ising model to discuss materials stability and tendency for polytypism. We also determine relative band edge positions and employ a six-band k⋅p model for a detailed understanding of the materials' electronic properties. Due to the comprehensive nature of this study, we provide insight on the chemical trends present in all of the studied properties. Our theoretical predictions align well with the existing experimental data, suggesting new avenues for nanostructure-based device development. The discussion extends to the implications of these findings for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices with the studied IV–IV materials, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for future research in nanowire synthesis and their applications. First-principles calculations of defects and electron–phonon interactions play a critical role in the design and optimization of materials for electronic and optoelectronic devices. The late Audrius Alkauskas made seminal contributions to developing rigorous first-principles methodologies for the computation of defects and electron–phonon interactions, especially in the context of understanding the fundamental mechanisms of carrier recombination in semiconductors. Alkauskas was also a pioneer in the field of quantum defects, helping to build a first-principles understanding of the prototype nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond, as well as identifying novel defects. Here, we describe the important contributions made by Alkauskas and his collaborators and outline fruitful research directions that Alkauskas would have been keen to pursue. Scandium nitride (ScN) is an attractive material for electronic applications due to its high n -type conductivity. Native defects and unintentional impurities may limit its electron concentration and reduce its mobility; therefore, it is important to control their formation and incorporation. Hydrogen and oxygen are unintentional impurities that are commonly present during growth and processing. They act as shallow donors in ScN and hence may be regarded as harmless or even favorable to achieving n -type conductivity. Here we show, using state-of-the-art first-principles calculations, that these impurities can be detrimental because they readily form complexes with scandium vacancies (V Sc ). Isolated V Sc have relatively high formation energies and thus have low concentrations and little impact on electronic properties. However, complexes between V Sc and either hydrogen or oxygen form more readily than the pristine vacancy and will act as both compensating and scattering centers. Our results point to the importance of controlling the incorporation of hydrogen and oxygen in ScN (and AlScN alloys) to avoid degradation of the electronic properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To realize a systematic review with prospective meta-analysis aiming to compare the accuracy of static fully guided implant placement depending on the drill key modality (conventional drill key surgery systems vs newer keyless systems) and evaluate the impact of deviation factors. Materials and Methods: An electronic systematic search was conducted to identify prospective clinical trials matching inclusion criteria. The variables of interest were coronal global, apical, vertical, and angular deviations. The types of edentulism and surgical guide support were investigated as deviation factors. Meta-regression (mixed-effect model) was performed. Heterogeneity was assessed using Cochrane's I² test and interpretation thresholds. Results: A total of 1,233 implants in 475 patients were analyzed (18 studies included). Coronal global deviation was significantly lower in the keyless group than in the key group (-0.36 mm; 95% CI -0.62, -0.09; P = .008). Angulation control of the keyless system was superior to that of the key system (-0.36 degrees; 95% CI -0.75, 0.02; P = .063). Nonsignificant differences were found between both groups in apical (P = .684) and vertical deviations (P = .958). Significant influence of the type of edentulism (single, partial, total) and surgical guide support (tooth, mucosa, bone) on the overall amount of coronal global, apical, and angular deviations was found (P < .001). The lowest deviations were found in partial edentulism and tooth-supported surgical guide groups. (P < .001). Conclusions: Keyless static fully guided surgical systems allowed significantly better control of coronal and angular deviations than conventional systems. γ-GeSe has recently emerged as a promising material for electronics and optoelectronics due to its unique band structure and excellent electrical properties. However, controllable growth of γ-GeSe remains a significant challenge. In this work, the controllable growth of γ-GeSe microflakes (MFs) on a mica substrate was reported by vapor phase deposition via a rapid cooling strategy. The screw dislocation-driven growth behavior is confirmed based on systematic characterizations. Our experimental results demonstrate that the stress induced during the rapid cooling process is critical for the controllable synthesis of γ-GeSe MFs and corresponding growth mechanism was proposed. Our work provides a new experimental strategy for the controlled growth of γ-GeSe MFs, which is beneficial for constructing GeSe-based nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices. Phyllosilicate minerals are an emerging class of naturally occurring layered insulators with large bandgap energy that have gained attention from the scientific community. This class of lamellar materials has been recently explored at the ultrathin two-dimensional level due to their specific mechanical, electrical, magnetic, and optoelectronic properties, which are crucial for engineering novel devices (including heterostructures). Due to these properties, phyllosilicate minerals can be considered promising low-cost nanomaterials for future applications. In this Perspective article, we will present relevant features of these materials for their use in potential 2D-based electronic and optoelectronic applications, also discussing some of the major challenges in working with them. 2D carbon allotropes with moderated electronic bandgaps are highly desirable for next‐generation carbon‐based nanoelectronics beyond graphene. Herein, the structural and electronic properties of bilayer α‐graphyne have been systematically investigated by using first‐principles calculations. Consequently, in addition to typical van der Waals (vdW) stacks of single‐layer α‐graphyne, new 2D carbon allotropes with purely sp2 or sp3 hybridizations can be achieved, arising from the absence of intralayer acetylene linkages during structural relaxation. Compared to the Dirac semimetallic behavior of monolayer α‐graphyne, the electronic structure of vdW bilayer α‐graphyne can be further modulated by stacking patterns, yet retains metallic characteristics. In contrast, intrinsic semiconducting characteristics can be observed in the proposed new 2D carbon allotropes with tunable bandgaps dependent on the in‐plane biaxial strain. Correspondingly, a pristine 2D carbon sheet with only sp2 hybridization exhibits a promising direct bandgap of 1.062 eV, while the sp3‐hybridized carbon network possesses an indirect bandgap of 1.708 eV, which can be further converted to the direct type under small compressive strains, implying great potential in future carbon‐based nanoelectronic applications beyond graphene. In the past decade, organic mixed ion-electron conductors have been successfully adopted in innovative bioelectronic, neuromorphic, and electro-optical technologies, as well as in multiple energy harvesting and printed electronics applications. However, despite the intense research efforts devoted to these materials, organic mixed conductors have not yet found application in electronic/photonic devices operating in key regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as the microwave (>5 GHz) and terahertz (0.1-10 THz) ranges. A possible reason for this technological gap is the widespread notion that organic electronic materials are unsuitable for high-frequency applications. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time the utility of high-performance polymer mixed conductors as electro-active tuning layers in reconfigurable terahertz metasurfaces, achieving modulation performances comparable with state-of-the-art inorganic and 2D semiconductors. Through time-domain terahertz spectroscopy, we show that the large conductivity modulations of these polymers, until now probed only at very low frequencies, are effectively preserved in the terahertz range, leading to optimal metadevice reconfigurability. Finally, we leverage the unique processability of organic materials to develop fully direct-written electrically tuneable metasurfaces onto both rigid and flexible substrates, opening new opportunities for the mass-scale realization of flexible and light-weight terahertz optics with unique mechanical characteristics and environmental footprint. Organic mixed ion-electron conductors are emerging as promising platforms for innovative bioelectronic, neuromorphic, and electro-optical technologies. Comprehensive Summary: Previous studies have demonstrated linear polymers embedded with B←N units display efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance, but their limited structural tunability restricts photogenerated carrier dynamics modulation. Current researches mainly focus on linear polymers, while the study of B←N units in the field of two‐dimension conjugated polymers (2DCPs) photocatalytic hydrogen evolution remains an uncultivated ground. Herein, three 2DCPs containing B←N units were synthesized and their photocatalytic hydrogen production performance was investigated. Among them, the BN‐Tz exhibited the best property with a hydrogen production rate of 89.5 μmol·h–1, while BN‐Ph and BN‐TPB were only 26.4 and 8.5 μmol·h–1, respectively. Comprehensive analyses showed that the remarkable photocatalytic ability of BN‐Tz catalyst was mainly attributed to its superior transport and separation of photogenerated carriers, as well as the ability to construct a stronger built‐in electric field and better planarity. Meanwhile, it was found that the manipulation of the electronic properties of the structures connected to the B←N unit could effectively regulate the molecular polarity, thus achieving the control of the electronic structure of the materials. This work extends the application of materials containing B←N units in photocatalysis and lays a good foundation for the subsequent design of photocatalysts containing B←N units. Dielectric spectroscopy is widely used in research on electronic materials. When processing experimental data, relaxation models are often used to obtain the parameters of the researched material. However, we should prefer the oscillator methods to study composite materials with resonance components, crystals, and polycrystals, whose structure is multi-domain or characterized by high disharmony. In this paper, we consider a dielectric dispersive oscillator model in detail. Primary attention is paid to the case of an oscillator with very high attenuation. Assembly of two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials into well-organized architectures is pivotal for controlling their function and enhancing performance. As a promising class of 2D nanomaterials, MXenes have attracted significant interest for use in wearable electronics due to their unique electrical and mechanical properties. However, facile approaches for fabricating MXenes into macroscopic fibers with controllable structures are limited. In this study, we present a strategy for easily spinning MXene fibers by incorporating polyanions. The introduction of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) into MXene colloids has been found to alter MXene aggregation behavior, resulting in a reduced concentration threshold for lyotropic liquid crystal phase. This modification also enhances the viscosity and shear sensitivity of MXene colloids. Consequently, we were able to draw continuous fibers directly from the gel of MXene aggregated with PAA. These fibers exhibit homogeneous diameter and high alignment of MXene nanosheets, attributed to the shear-induced long-range order of the liquid crystal phase. Furthermore, we demonstrate proof-of-concept applications of the ordered MXene fibers, including textile-based supercapacitor, sensor and electrical thermal management, highlighting their great potential applied in wearable electronics. Hyperspectral imaging techniques have a unique ability to probe the inhomogeneity of material properties whether driven by compositional variation or other forms of phase segregation. In the doped cuprates, iridates, and related materials, scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements have found the emergence of pseudogap "puddles" from the macroscopically Mott insulating phase with increased doping. However, categorizing this hyperspectral data by electronic order is not trivial and has often been done with ad hoc methods. In this paper, we demonstrate the utility of k-means, a simple and easy-to-use unsupervised clustering method, as a tool for classifying heterogeneous scanning tunneling spectroscopy data by electronic order for Rh-doped Sr2IrO4, a cuprate-like material. Applied to STM data acquired within the Mott phase, k-means was able to identify areas of Mott order and of pseudogap order. The unsupervised nature of k-means limits avenues for bias and provides clustered spectral shapes without a priori knowledge of the physics. Additionally, we demonstrate the use of k-means as a preprocessing tool to constrain phenomenological function fitting. Clustering the data allows us to reduce the fitting parameter space, limiting over-fitting. We suggest k-means as a fast, simple model for processing hyperspectral data on materials of mixed electronic order. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Novel perovskites pertain to newly discovered or less studied variants of the conventional perovskite structure, characterized by distinctive properties and potential for diverse applications such as ferroelectric, optoelectronic, and thermoelectric uses. In recent years, advancements in computational methods have markedly expedited the discovery and design of innovative perovskite materials, leading to numerous pertinent reports. However, there are few reviews that thoroughly elaborate the role of computational methods in studying novel perovskites, particularly for state-of-the-art perovskite categories. This review delves into the computational discovery of novel perovskite materials, with a particular focus on antiperovskites and chalcogenide perovskites. We begin with a discussion on the computational methods applied to evaluate the stability and electronic structure of materials. Next, we highlight how these methods expedite the discovery process, demonstrating how rational simulations contribute to researching novel perovskites with improved performance. Finally, we thoroughly discuss the remaining challenges and future outlooks in this research domain to encourage further investigation. We believe that this review will be highly beneficial both for newcomers to the field and for experienced researchers in computational science who are shifting their focus to novel perovskites. Visibly transparent electron devices are current research highlights, which are found at the “neotype” stage of technical development for the usage in the next generation “see‐through” electronic devices. However, less attention is paid to transparent semiconductor memory devices, and hence, achieving such “see‐through” electronic devices are still partially limited by lacking the easily achievable and cost‐effective transparent memory materials. Herein, three visible light transparent polysulfate‐based memory devices are reported, e.g. ITO/P‐BPS/Al, ITO/P‐TPA/Al, and ITO/P‐TPABPS/Al, that displayed DRAM, WORM, and FLASH effects, respectively. The mechanisms of the observed memory behavior of each memory material are proposed on the basis of computational simulation. Remarkably, these polysulfates‐based memory materials are obtained by simply using different main‐chain repeating units, suggesting a wide application potential of polysulfate as functionalized materials. Flash sintering was officially discovered about fifteen years ago as a ground-breaking method to consolidate ceramics in very short time at furnace temperature much lower than that used for conventional sintering. Since then, it has been applied to several ceramics and composites with the common feature of being characterized by a negative temperature coefficient for resistivity while few attempts have been made on materials with metal-like electronic conduction. In the present overview the results of the investigation carried out in the last years aiming at consolidating tungsten carbide and zirconium diboride by flash sintering are reported and the conditions for inducing a thermal runaway phenomenon like in other ceramics and understand the physical mechanisms behind the flash effect are analysed. The investigation allows to point out the importance of the fundamental processing variables like the applied pressure and voltage for obtain high density material. The key role of the starting particles' surface chemistry is identified to generate specific microstructures and determine peculiar physical and mechanical properties in the flash sintered ceramic. Heterojunction is widely acknowledged as a potent strategy as an effective means for achieving quality electronic, optical adsorption, and photocatalytic water-splitting properties. Strain also can regulate these properties effectively. In this study, we have fabricated and studied a heterojunction comprised SiC and WS 2. Utilizing a first-principles method, we systematically investigated the SiC/WS 2 heterojunction's structure, stability, electronic, and optical properties, as well as its photocatalytic water splitting characteristics under strain engineering. Our calculations reveal that the SiC/WS 2 heterojunction is a type-II heterostructure with two stable structures, which exhibits a direct bandgap and well performance in the visible light region, facilitating efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. We have explored and discussed the impacts of biaxial strain on the various properties. The bandgaps of System-A and B are 1.778 eV and 1.820 eV, respectively, without strain. Under strain from −6% to 10%, they initially rise, peak at 1.858 eV and 1.899 eV respectively at −2% strain, then decline. Without strain, effective mass m h /m e for both structures are 1.642 and 1.673. Under positive strain, they increase, decrease, then increase again, peaking at 6% with 2.116 and 2.260. At −2% strain, values drop to 0.901 and 0.910 for A and B, respectively. Our calculations also demonstrate that the SiC/WS 2 heterostructure qualifies as a promising photocatalytic material, fulfilling the criteria for water splitting under strain conditions of −4%, −2%, and 0%. And the heterojunction with System-B under −4% strain has the optimal performance in photocatalytic water splitting. At a strain of −4%, System-B achieves the maximum η′ STH of 16.91%. In conclusion, our study not only offers fundamental insights into the utilization of SiC/WS 2 heterojunctions for photocatalytic water splitting, but also provides the foundational design principles of heterojunctions. • SiC/WS 2 heterojunction is a type-II heterostructure with a direct bandgap. • The heterojunction has well performance in the visible light region. • The built-in electric field facilitates efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. • Strain can effectively modulate the electronic and optical properties of the heterojunction. • Structure-Ⅱ under −4% strain has the best performance in photocatalytic water splitting. Nowadays, conductive hydrogels show significant prospects as strain sensors due to their good stretchability and signal transduction abilities. However, traditional hydrogels possess poor anti-freezing performance at low temperatures owing to the large number of water molecules, which limits their application scope. To date, constructing a hydrogel-based sensor with balanced stretchability, conductivity, transparency, and anti-freezing properties via simple methods has proven challenging. Here, a fully physically crosslinked poly(hydroxyethyl acrylamide)–glycerol–sodium chloride (PHEAA–Gl–NaCl) hydrogel was obtained by polymerizing hydroxyethyl acrylamide in deionized water and then soaking it in a saturated NaCl solution of glycerol and water. The PHEAA–Gl–NaCl hydrogel had good transparency (~93%), stretchability (~1300%), and fracture stress (~287 kPa). Owing to the presence of glycerol and sodium chloride, the PHEAA–Gl–NaCl hydrogel had good anti-freezing properties and conductivity. Furthermore, the PHEAA–Gl–NaCl hydrogel-based strain sensor possessed good sensitivity and cyclic stability, enabling the detection of different human motions stably and in a wide temperature range. 2D conjugated metal–organic frameworks (2D c‐MOFs) are emerging as unique electroactive materials for electronics and spintronics. The structural design and discovery of Kagome‐type 2D c‐MOFs exhibiting a metallic state are of paramount significance, yet remain rarely explored. Here, the solution synthesis of benzenehexol‐based 2D c‐MOFs based is presented on the tetrahydroxy‐1,4‐quinone (THQ) ligand. This study shows that controlling the pH of the reaction system to ≈7.5 yields an energetically favorable nonporous Cu3(C6O6) with a Kagome lattice, while at a pH of ≈10, the known porous Cu3(C6O6)2 with a honeycomb lattice is obtained. The crystal structures of both Cu3(C6O6)2 and Cu3(C6O6) are resolved with near‐atomic precision (resolution, 1.8 Å) using an imaging technique. Unlike the p‐type semiconducting behavior of Cu3(C6O6)2, theoretical studies identify Cu3(C6O6) as a metal due to its unique structural topology. The metallic state of Cu3(C6O6) is experimentally validated by terahertz time‐domain spectroscopy (THz‐TDS), which shows an increase in conductivity upon cooling. Scattering‐type scanning near‐field optical microscopy (s‐SNOM) measurements further support these findings by revealing an increase in normalized reflectivity with decreasing temperature. Spontaneous alignment of molecular electric dipole moments, known as spontaneous orientation polarization (SOP), is present in many organic electronic materials. The SOP‐induced field changes the internal voltage distribution within the device, altering polaron injection and accumulation. The important role of SOP in organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs) has recently been emphasized with clear links between dipole alignment and device efficiency and operational lifetime. Prior work has thus sought to engineer SOP via changes in thin film composition or processing conditions. These efforts have generally been directed at the OLED electron transport layer, which can show strong SOP. This work takes a different approach, focusing instead on how changes in device architecture can be applied to tune the magnitude and dynamics of polaron accumulation in response to SOP. In this work, it is demonstrated that the introduction of SOP into the device emissive layer offers control over the spatial location of accumulation. In parallel, insertion of a spacer layer between the hole transport and emissive layers can be used to tune the polaron accumulation rate and density during device operation. Both of these architectural changes permit an increase in OLED efficiency and a pathway around the deleterious impact of SOP‐induced polaron accumulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While recent experiments confirm the existence of hundreds of topological electronic materials, only a few exhibit the coexistence of superconductivity (SC) and a topological electronic state. These compounds attract significant attention in forefront research because of the potential for the existence of topological SC, paving the way for future technological advancements. SrSn4 is known for exhibiting unusual SC below the transition temperature (TC) of 4.8 K. Recent theory predicts a topological electronic state in this compound, which is yet to be confirmed by experiments. Systematic and detailed studies of the magnetotransport properties of SrSn4 and its Fermi surface characterizations are also absent. For the first time, a quantum oscillation study reveals a nontrivial 흅‐Berry phase, very light effective mass, and high quantum mobility of charge carriers in SrSn4. Magnetotransport experiment unveils large linear transverse magnetoresistance (TMR) of more than 1200% at 5 K and 14 T. Angle‐dependent transport experiments detect anisotropic and fourfold symmetric TMR, with the maximum value (≈2000%) occurring when the angle between the magnetic field and the crystallographic b‐axis is 45°. The results suggest that SrSn4 is the first topological material with SC above the boiling point of helium that displays such high magnetoresistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ionogels, as a novel class of environmentally friendly electronic materials, have received extensive attention. This study successfully prepared P(AM‐co‐AA) ionogel with optical transparency and flexibility via chemical polymerization. Experimental outcomes reveal that the dispersion of anions and cations within the ionogel is effectively controlled by the polymer network, resulting in distinct dispersive dielectric property, which is suitable for applications in electromagnetic metamaterials. Leveraging these properties, two distinct electromagnetic metamaterial devices are developed: An Ionogel‐based Broadband Absorber achieves over 90% absorption across 10.9–25.36 GHz, and An Ionogel‐based Frequency Selective Rasorber (FSR) transmits within 4.62–5.86 GHz, exhibiting minimal insertion loss −1.45 dB and achieves greater than 90% absorption from 13 to 17.8 GHz. High agreement between experimental results and simulations validates the feasibility of utilizing ionogel in electromagnetic metamaterial applications and introduces a novel paradigm and methodology for designing and fabricating flexible electromagnetic metamaterial devices. Diamond is a material with promising electronics applications but with challenges in effective doping. Cubic boron nitride (cBN), due to its similar lattice structure, is ideal for forming heterostructures with diamond, to modify electronic properties and especially shift the band positions. Here it is demonstrated how integrating cBN layers of finite thickness in diamond can induce an electronic band offset near the polarized diamond‐cBN interface. Beyond the direct density functional theory computations, an analytical model is developed for rapid examination of the band offset, for a broad number of crystallographic orientations, in excellent agreement with ab initio calculations. Results show that near [100] and [111] crystal directions, the diamond|cBN|diamond heterostructure displays a 3–4 eV band offset which is expected to facilitate effective modulation doping of diamond. Several theoretical studies at different levels of theory have attempted to calculate the absolute position of the SnO2 conduction band, whose knowledge is key for its effective application in optoelectronic devices such us, for example, perovskite solar cells. However, the predicted band edges fall outside the experimentally measured range. In this work, we introduce a computational scheme designed to calculate the conduction band minimum values of SnO2, yielding results aligned with experiments. Our analysis points out the fundamental role of encompassing surface oxygen vacancies to properly describe the electronic profile of this material. We explore the impact of both bridge and in‐plane oxygen vacancy defects on the structural and electronic properties of SnO2, explaining from an atomistic perspective the experimental observables. The results underscore the importance of simulating both types of defects to accurately predict SnO2 features and provide new fundamental insights that can guide future studies concerning design and optimization of SnO2‐based materials and functional interfaces. Context: The relentless need for new materials to be used in electronic devices has opened new research directions in materials science. One of them involves using two-dimensional materials, among which there is current interest in using germanene. The heteroatom doping of germanene has been proposed as a possible approach to fine-tuning its electronic properties. However, this procedure is complicated because locating the dopants with a specific arrangement is challenging, thus achieving reproducibility. To avoid this problem, we propose the codoping of germanene to understand if dopants prefer to be agglomerated as observed for graphene or if they prefer to adopt a random disposition. Herein, we employed first-principles calculations to study 21 codoped germanene systems with one 3p (Al, Si, P, and S) and one 4p (Ga, As, and Se) element. Our results indicate that in the cases of AlP, AlS, GaP, GaS, GaAs, and GaSe codoped germanene, the dopants show a tendency to be located in specific lattice positions. The ortho disposition of dopants is preferred for AlP, AlS, GaP and GaS codoped germanene and their 4p counterparts GaAs and GaSe codoped germanene, and the materials showed interesting electronic properties making them suitable to develop germanene-based electronic materials. Methods: We utilized the M06-L, HSE06 methods accompanied by the 6-31G* basis sets to perform periodic boundary conditions calculations as implemented in Gaussian 09. The unit cells were sampled employing 100 k-points for geometry optimizations and 2000 k-points for electronic properties The ultrafine grid was employed. Wearable devices have generally been rigid due to their reliance on silicon‐based technologies, while future wearables will utilize flexible components for example transistors within microprocessors to manage data. Two‐dimensional (2D) semiconducting flakes have yet to be investigated in fiber transistors but can offer a route toward high‐mobility, biocompatible, and flexible fiber‐based devices. Here, the electrochemical exfoliation of semiconducting 2D flakes of tungsten diselenide (WSe2) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is shown to achieve homogeneous coatings onto the surface of polyester fibers. The high aspect ratio (>100) of the flake yields aligned and conformal flake‐to‐flake junctions on polyester fibers enabling transistors with mobilities μ ≈1 cm2 V−1 s−1 and a current on/off ratio, Ion/Ioff ≈102–104. Furthermore, the cytotoxic effects of the MoS2 and WSe2 flakes with human keratinocyte cells are investigated and found to be biocompatible. As an additional step, a unique transistor 'knot' architecture is created by leveraging the fiber diameter to establish the length of the transistor channel, facilitating a route to scale down transistor channel dimensions (≈100 µm) and utilize it to make a MoS2 fiber transistor with a human hair that achieves mobilities as high as μ ≈15 cm2 V−1 s−1. Recently, the durability of high-performance and multifunctional portable electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, has become an important issue. Electronic device housing, which protects internal components from external stimuli, such as vibration, shock, and electrical hazards, is essential for resolving durability issues. Therefore, the materials used for electronic device housing must possess good mechanical and electrical insulating properties. Herein, we propose a novel high-strength polymer nanocomposite based on 3D-aligned aluminum borate nanowhisker (ABOw) structures. ABOw was synthesized using a facile hydrothermal method, and 3D-aligned ABOw structures were fabricated using a freeze-casting process. The 3D-aligned ABOw/epoxy composites consist of repetitively layered structures, and the microstructures of these composites are controlled by the filler content. The developed 3D-aligned ABOw/epoxy composite had a compressive strength 56.72% higher than that of pure epoxy, indicating that it can provide high durability when applied as a protective material for portable electronic devices. Objectives: The present study aimed to systematically review the studies comparing the accuracy of intraoral scan (IOS) and conventional implant impressions (CI) in completely edentulous patients. Materials and Methods: Electronic searches were performed in PubMed, Embase and Cochrane CENTRAL up to December 1, 2023. Clinical studies and in vitro studies reporting the accuracy of digital full arch impressions were included. The primary outcome is the 3‐dimensional deviations between the study reference models. A risk of bias assessment was performed for clinical studies. A stratified meta‐analysis and a single‐armed meta‐analysis were conducted. Results: A total of 49 studies were included, with 8 clinical studies and 41 in vitro studies. For comparison between IOS and conventional impressions, studies were categorized into two groups based on the different measurement methods employed: RMS and CMM. In studies using RMS, the result favored the IOS in the unparalleled situation with the mean difference of −99.29 μm (95% CI: [−141.38, −57.19], I2 = 81%), while the result was opposite with the mean difference of 13.62 μm (95% CI: [10.97, 16.28], I2 = 26%) when implants were paralleled. For different brands of IOS, the accuracy ranged from 76.11 μm (95% CI: [42.36, 109.86]) to 158.63 μm (95% CI: [−14.68, 331.93]). Conclusions: Accuracy of intraoral scan is clinically acceptable in edentulous arches, especially for unparalleled implants. More clinical studies are needed to verify the present finding. Cellulose is a natural polymer with great properties such as high optical transparency and mechanical strength, flexibility, and biodegradability. Hence, cellulose‐based foils are suitable for the replacement of synthetic polymers as substrate materials in organic electronics. This article reports the fabrication of ultrathin, free‐standing cellulose foils by spraying aqueous 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐nanocellulose (TEMPO) fibrils ink layer‐by‐layer on a hot substrate using a movable spray nozzle. The resulting foils are only 2 ± 1 µm in thickness with an average basis weight of 1.9 g m−2, which ranges in the same scale as the world's thinnest paper. The suitability of these ultra‐thin nanocellulose foils as a sustainable substrate material for organic electronic applications is demonstrated by testing the foils resistance against organic solvents. Furthermore, silver nanowires (AgNWs) and the blend poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) are integrated into the foils, and the foils are molded into 3D paper structures in order to create conductive, paper‐based building blocks for organic electronics. Developing materials for electronics and sensing based on abundant and degradable materials is fundamental for transitioning both fields toward a more sustainable future. In the long run, this approach can unleash these fields from using petroleum‐derived and/or scarce resources, possibly facilitating electronic waste (e‐waste) management at the same time. Starch, one of the most abundant and versatile natural polymers, has shown great potential in the fabrication of degradable/transient devices. In this work, electrically conductive and mechanically robust starch‐Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites are successfully engineered, offering a promising advancement in sustainable electronics. The nanocomposite films exhibit remarkable tunability with varying MXene concentrations (from 0.69 to 2.42 vol%), allowing precise control over their properties. This tunability enables modifications in tensile strength (from 6.4 to 11.2 MPa), electrical conductivity (from 2.31 × 10−3 to 3.98 S m−1), and gauge factor. Such characteristics make these films ideal for various applications, including body movement monitoring, tactile sensing, handwriting recognition, and electronic smart skin. Unlike their petroleum‐based counterparts, the starch‐based films demonstrate significant biodegradability, breaking down within a month after being buried in soil. This manuscript reports on the third-order nonlinear optical responses of two-dimensional metallic NbSe2 suspended in acetonitrile (ACN). The standard Z-scan technique was employed with 190 fs optical pulses at 790 nm, a repetition rate of 750 Hz, and an intensity ranging from 30 to 300 GW/cm2. A self-focusing nonlinear refractive index (NLR), n 2 = + (1.8 ± 0.1) × 1 0 − 15 cm2/W, and a nonlinear absorption (NLA) coefficient, α 2 = + (3.5 ± 0.2) × 1 0 − 2 cm/GW, were measured, with the NLA arising from a two-photon process. Aiming to further understand the material's electronic nonlinearities, we also employed the Optical Kerr Gate (OKG) to evaluate the material's time response and measure the NLR coefficient in an optical intensity range different from the one used in the Z-scan. For optical pulses of 170 fs at 800 nm and a repetition rate of 76 MHz, the modulus of the NLR coefficient was measured to be n 2 = 4.2 ± 0.5 × 10 − 14 cm2/W for intensities up to 650 MW/cm2, with the material's time response limited by the pulse duration. Interfaces between implantable bioelectrodes and tissues provide critical insights into the biological and pathological conditions of targeted organs, aiding diagnosis and treatment. While conventional bioelectronics, made from rigid materials like metals and silicon, have been essential for recording signals and delivering electric stimulation, they face limitations due to the mechanical mismatch between rigid devices and soft tissues. Recently, focus has shifted toward soft conductive materials, such as conductive hydrogels and hydrogel nanocomposites, known for their tissue-like softness, biocompatibility, and potential for functionalization. This review introduces these materials and provides an overview of recent advances in soft hydrogel nanocomposites for implantable electronics. It covers material strategies for conductive hydrogels, including both intrinsically conductive hydrogels and hydrogel nanocomposites, and explores key functionalization techniques like biodegradation, bioadhesiveness, injectability, and self-healing. Practical applications of these materials in implantable electronics are also highlighted, showcasing their effectiveness in real-world scenarios. This study is the first to explore the effect of selenium doping on the electronic properties of β-Ga2O3 through first-principles calculations. Selenium doping in β-Ga2O3 is a significant choice, as it has the potential to improve the material's electronic properties. Previous work on β-Ga2O3 has focused primarily on other dopants, and the effect of selenium doping is not well understood. Therefore, this study fills an important gap in the current understanding of β-Ga2O3 doping. Selenium doping in β-Ga2O3 was studied by first-principles calculations with a hybrid functional, as this functional can offer a more accurate description of electronic properties, resulting in accurate electronic bandgap and defect level calculations. Our first-principles calculations reveal that selenium can be incorporated on both Ga and O sites under specific conditions. Specifically, under O-rich conditions, selenium atoms are more likely to substitute the Ga sites, whereas under Ga-rich conditions, they are more likely to substitute the O sites. With the formation energy analysis, our findings indicate that selenium doping on Ga sites can lead to n-type conductivity, with it acting as shallow donor. On the other hand, Se dopants at the O sites exhibit deep donor characteristics, rendering it ineffective in regulating the conductivity of β-Ga2O3 materials. Our findings suggest that Se can be used as a dopant to tune the β-Ga2O3 conductivity for electronic and photonic applications, provided that the atomic substitution on Ga sites can be effectively controlled. Our results will provide valuable theoretical insights for the refined use of selenium dopants in β-Ga2O3, as well as guidance and theoretical support for subsequent researchers in the selection of Ga2O3 dopants. We herein report the synthesis and in‐depth characterisation of aza‐analogues of fully bridged triarylamines, consisting of 5‐, 6‐ and 7‐membered rings. As family members of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, compound anthracene (Ant) and phenanthrene (Phe) as isomers are widely used in organic optical materials and electronic materials. But their photochemical and physical properties are very different. In this work, the room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) properties of PVA−B‐Ant and PVA−B‐Phe are discussed carefully which are prepared by B−O click reaction through polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with 9‐anthraceneboronic acid (B‐Ant) and 9‐phenanthrenylboronic acid (B‐Phe), respectively. PVA−B‐Phe 1 % film exhibits excellent fluorescence (FL) emission at 374 nm and RTP emission at 523 nm with green afterglow and around 1.9 s phosphorescence lifetime. However, PVA−B‐Ant 1 % film only shows strong blue FL emission at 414 nm, and the emission intensity decreases seriously with the extension of irradiation time. Experimental and theoretical calculations results suggest that the photodimer of Ant which is formed in PVA matrix under the UV light irradiation would be competitive with the process of RTP emission. This work demonstrates that the RTP properties of organic molecules might be probably affected by the photostability of the organic phosphor under UV irradiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the development of wearable electronic technology, the flexible photodetectors have attracted widespread attention, and it is of great significance to develop flexible, eco‐friendly and low‐cost photodetectors. Cellulose paper, as a flexible, eco‐friendly, low‐cost, lightweight, customizable, biodegradable and renewable material, has received enthusiastic attention and rapid development in the field of photodetectors in recent years. In this review, it is focused on the research progress of paper‐based (PB) photodetectors. First, the fabrication methods of PB photodetectors are discussed, including electrode materials and optoelectronic functional materials. Then, this review systematically summarizes and analyzes the achievements of PB photodetectors on photoelectric performances (spectral response range, responsivity, detectivity, response/recovery times and on/off ratio) and flexibility characteristics (bending angle and bending cycle). In terms of key performance indicators, the PB photodetectors reported so far can detect multiple wavelengths of light from UV to near‐infrared with the maximum detectivity of 1013 Jones. In addition, the various applications of PB photodetectors is reviewed and discussed. Finally, it is look forward to the future development of PB photodetectors in terms of fabrication methods, photoelectric and flexible performances, and applications. The experimental efficiency has been a central concern for time-consuming experiments. Spin- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (spin-resolved ARPES) is renowned for its inefficiency in spin-detection, despite its outstanding capability to directly determine the spin-polarized electronic properties of materials. Here, we investigate the potential enhancement of the efficiency of spin-resolved ARPES experiments through the integration of measurement informatics. We focus on a representative topological insulator Bi 2 Te 3 , which has well-understood spin-polarized electronic states. We employ Gaussian process regression (GPR) to assess the accumulation of spin polarization information using an indicator known as the GPR score. Our analyses based on the GPR model suggest that the GPR score can serve as a stopping criterion for spin-resolved ARPES experiments. This criterion enables us to conduct efficient spin-resolved ARPES experiments, significantly reducing the time costs by 5-10 times, compared to empirical stopping criteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advance of printed electronics is significantly bolstered by the development of liquid‐state electronics that overcome the inherent limitations in flexibility and reconfigurability of solid‐state electronics. By integrating the biocompatibility and conductivity of sulfonated polyaniline (S‐PANI) and phytic acid (PA) with the reconfigurability of structured liquids, highly conductive all‐liquid threads are developed. The dense packing and overlap of PA/S‐PANI complexes at an oil/water interface promotes in‐plane electron transport, and standard four‐point probe measurements of PA/S‐PANI interfacial assemblies demonstrate enhanced electrical properties. Notably, the rapid jetting of the ink phase into the matrix phase allows for liquid threads to be printed, enabling the fabrication of large‐scale, conductive pathways between two electrodes and liquid circuits. Upon mechanical cleavage of the liquid wires, circuits can be broken, but will easily self‐repair using an electric field, making this motif useful in the design of switches as well as restoring conductive pathways in series or in parallel. The demonstrated flexibility and reconfigurability these PA/S‐PANI wires possess hold significant promise for their practical use in the design of flexible and adaptive bioelectronics that can be repaired on demand, signifying a transformative step in the evolution of liquid electronic materials. The electronic bandgap of a material is often fixed after fabrication. The capability to realize on-demand and nonvolatile control over the bandgap will unlock exciting opportunities for adaptive devices with enhanced functionalities and efficiency. We introduce a general design principle for on-demand and nonvolatile control of bandgap values, which utilizes reversible sliding-induced polarization driven by an external electric field to modulate the irreversible background polarization in asymmetric two-dimensional (2D) multilayers. The structural asymmetry can be conveniently achieved in homobilayers of Janus monolayers and heterobilayers of nonpolar monolayers, making the design principle applicable to a broad range of 2D materials. We demonstrate the versatility of this design principle using experimentally synthesized Janus metal dichalcogenide multilayers as examples. Our first-principles calculations show that the bandgap modulation can reach up to 0.3 eV and even support a semimetal-to-semiconductor transition. By integrating a ferroelectric monolayer represented by 1T″′-MoS2 into a bilayer, we show that the combination of intrinsic ferroelectricity and sliding ferroelectricity leads to multi-bandgap systems coupled to multi-step polarization switching. The sliding-reversible bandgap modulation offers an avenue to dynamically adjust the optical, thermal, and electronic properties of 2D materials through mechanical and electrical stimuli. We present a novel synthetic route for the rapid construction of dithieno[3′,2′:3,4;2′′,3′′:5,6]benzo[1,2‐c][1,2,5]thiadiazoles via Na2S‐promoted thiophene annulation. This method facilitated the synthesis of D18−Cl polymer, known for its efficacy as a polymer donor in bulk‐heterojunction polymer solar cells. Starting from commercially available 4,7‐dihalo‐5,6‐difluorobenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole, various 4,7‐dialkynylated compounds were obtained through Sonogashira reaction conditions. Subsequent Na2S‐promoted thiophene annulations yielded DTBT and its derivatives in excellent yields within 10 minutes. DTBT was then utilized as a precursor for the concise synthesis of D18−Cl, benefiting from reduced synthetic steps, mild reaction conditions, decreased complexity, and high overall yields. In another route, a space group‐bridged DTBT was directly constructed via Na2S‐promoted thiophene annulations and converted into D18−Cl through a couple of steps. This developed protocol offers a straightforward and reliable synthetic tool, conducive to reducing complexities in the production of DTBT‐based organic electronic materials, thereby advancing the potential commercialization of organic solar cells. Layered (2D) perovskites are an emerging attractive 2D system with enhanced stability to ambient conditions as opposed to their highly unstable three dimensional bulk counterpart. Their uniquely tuneable optical and electrical properties are underpinning a surge of interest in 2D‐photovoltaics. So far, the development of nano‐scale integrated opto‐electronic 2D perovskite devices remains nearly unexplored since they have generally been found to be incompatible with standard top‐down semiconductor nano‐fabrication technologies. Here, following the synthesis of solvent‐stable 2D‐fluorinated phenethylammonium lead iodide perovskite (F‐PEA)2PbI4 (F‐PEAI), planar photodetectors entirely fabricated in atmosphere is demonstrated, exhibiting figures of merit rivalling those of commercial silicon photodiodes. A record large room temperature detectivity (>5 × 1017 Jones), a fast time photoresponse (rise time 1.5 ns), an extraordinarily large linear dynamic range (228 dB), as well as a photo‐responsivity of ≈ 1100 AW−1 are demonstrated for devices on a range of substrates including flexible wearable media without the need for any planarization or any atomically thin dielectric, in stark contrast to other 2D semiconductors. Finally, the suitability of nano‐scale 2D F‐PEAI photodetector arrays with sub‐wavelength pixel size of just 100 nm of use for high definition imaging is demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the new data concerning the electronic and vibrational properties of the BsO2i* defect in Czochralski‐grown boron‐doped silicon are reported. In silicon subjected to treatment at elevated temperatures, a new boron‐related defect is detected. An additional intracenter electronic transition for boron associated with the revealed defect is observed. The defect is identified as BsO2i due to the linear dependence of its formation efficiency on the boron content and the quadratic dependence on the oxygen concentration. The revealed complex is formed synchronously with the annealing of the previously identified BsO2i* defect. The detected complex is formed as a result of temperature transformation of the atomic configuration of the BsO2i* defect. The transformation occurs with activation energy of 2.59 eV. The local vibrational modes associated with both configurations of the BsO2i* complex are identified. The results of the study suggest that the BsO2i* defect in both configurations exists in a wide temperature interval, impacts the optical and electronic properties of the material, and must be taken into consideration when developing Si:B‐based devices. In this comprehensive study, we investigate the properties of Cs2NaBiX6 (X = I and Br) lead-free double perovskites using density functional theory (DFT). This is the first in-depth DFT-based analysis that delves into the substantial characteristics of these materials, addressing a significant gap in the existing literature. Our analysis focuses on the optical and electronic properties of these materials. Additionally, we examine the impact of strain (tensile and compressive) on their characteristics. The negative values of formation energy and lack of negative frequencies in phonon dispersion band structures provide evidence for the thermodynamic and dynamic stability of considered compounds, respectively. The results reveal that Cs2NaBiBr6 is the most thermodynamically and moisture-stable variant, as corroborated by the narrower energy fluctuation range, indicating superior thermal stability. The adsorption energy of water molecule on Cs2NaBiBr6 and Cs2NaBiI6 are − 0.109 and − 0.114, respectively.Using PBE approximent, bandgap values for Cs2NaBiBr6 and Cs2NaBiI6, are 2.09 and 3.14 eV, respectively. Furthermore, the DFT analysis suggests that the mechanical moduli increase as the halide changes from iodide to bromide. According to the computed Pugh's ratio, these materials are ductile. These findings highlight the promising potential of lead-free double perovskites Cs2NaBiX6 (X = I and Br) for applications in optoelectronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growing interest in flexible conductive materials and printed electronic components has spawned a series of new commercial applications, including smart devices, functional clothing, and intelligent packaging. This review summarizes the main preparation techniques for conductive ink fillers, while considering the influence of the source materials (metals, carbon nanoparticles and polymers) that affect the performance of the conductive inks. The preparation methods and related research advances in electronic components (flexible electrodes and sensors) based on inkjet printing and screen‐printing technology are summarized. In addition, the literature review reveals that the current research content rarely considers the influence of printing conditions on the quality of the printed electronic devices, thus indicating that numerous specific engineering challenges need to be overcome for the commercial application of printed electronics. Statement of problem: Atrophied jaw is a condition where there is insufficient bone quantity and quality. Several treatment plans are available for treating atrophied jaws, including subperiosteal implants. Purpose: To evaluate the spectrum of subperiosteal implants for severely atrophied jaws using digital technology. Materials and methods: An electronic and manual search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. Publications of cohort studies, case series, and case reports written in English without data restrictions that reported on subperiosteal implant management of patients with severely atrophied jaws in a completely and partially edentulous population. Results: A total of 26 articles, comprising 302 cases, were analyzed. In patients with severely atrophied jaws. The success rate was 87.7%, the surviving rate was 95.3%. The most common complications were biological, such as dehiscence and framework exposure. The rates of biologic complications were 11.5%, and the rates of prosthetic problems were 5.9%. Conclusions: Subperiosteal implants designed and constructed using digital technology are a promising treatment in the short term. Attention should be directed to decrease the biological complication. Correct designing, implanting, fixing, and patient selection and maintenance are critical for the success of the treatment. First-principles density functional formulation was used to explore the electronic and optical properties of magnesium chalcogenides sulfides, MgXS3 (X = Ti and Zr), which compose of magnesium titanium sulfide, MgTiS3, and magnesium zirconium sulfide, MgZrS3. The lattice parameter calculations for MgZrS3 yielded 9.19 Å, a bulk modulus of 170.6 GPa, and an equilibrium volume of 423.03 Å3. In contrast, MgTiS3 yielded 9.27 Å, a bulk modulus of 251.3 GPa, and an equilibrium volume of 117.06 3 Å3. The computation gave a direct bandgap value for MgTiS3 and MgZrS3 of 1.1 eV and 1.3 eV, respectively. The dielectric constants of 38 and 32 were observed for the imaginary and real values for energy equivalents of 0.7 eV and 1.35 eV. The determined dielectric constants and energy values of the perovskite compounds were 70 and 1.35 eV respectively with their point of intersection also at this bandgap value. The efficiency of the compounds was calculated using the spectroscopic limited maximum efficiency (SLME) in order to ascertain their output as absorber materials. The findings show that MgZrS3 had a higher efficiency value of 32.54% and MgTiS3 with 29.45%. These compounds’ computed properties point to the possibility of creating inexpensive, non-toxic absorber layer materials for use in solar cell development and other electronic applications.
