This study was conducted to find the relationship of test-anxiety, emotional intelligence and academic performance of public private sector university students. A sample of 388 students, 194 male and 194 females was drawn through convenient sampling from the Public and Private universities of Karachi in Pakistan, using a cross sectional design. Test anxiety was assessed through Westside Test Anxiety Scale and emotional intelligence was assessed using The Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. Performance of the last two semesters attended by the students was used to assess academic performance and demographic information was gathered through the demographic form. The "Pearson Product Correlation" was calculated to find the relation between test anxiety and emotional intelligence and academic performance. t-test for independent sample was used to obtain the differences in test-anxiety and emotional intelligence and gender in Public and Private sector university students' academic performance on the respective variables. The results revealed an inverse relationship between test-anxiety and emotional intelligence, academic performance. However, the results showed a positive relation between emotional intelligence and academic performance. Gender differences were found in test anxiety but not in emotional intelligence. The students of both the sectors differed in test anxiety, whereas both the groups did not differ on the scores of emotional intelligence. It is incumbent on educational institutes to provide psychological services to students who find it hard to handle exam situations in the same way as financial assistance is provided to those who need it.

This study approaches the issue of autism in a case study. Specifically, it investigates how three key points in the daily life of a child on the autism spectrum change in the presence of a pet: social behavior, empathy and irritability. The aim is to study how the pet affects the child's daily life in the above points. The questions that are asked concern the close environment of the child, in order to be able to compare the situation before and after the presence of the pet. Teachers from the child's school and family environment participate in the survey. Questionnaires and personal interviews are used to collect information. The interviews are based on Goodman's S.D.Q (2005). The bibliography will refer to the method of Animal Assisted therapy- pet therapy, which concerns the treatment of syndromes, diseases, anxiety, disorders, through animals. The research questions that arise refer to improving the socialization of people with autism, increasing their social interaction and creating relationships and expressing their emotions. Then the data collected is analyzed and the conclusions of the research are drawn.

Vocational high schools aim to create graduates who are ready to work, but in reality, many graduates are not ready to work at this time. Low employability is the main problem. This study aims to design and test a theoretical model of the effect of entrepreneurial readiness, adversity quotient, and social intelligence on employability in vocational high school students. The population of this study was students of class XII vocational high school "X" in Moyudan, Sleman, which consisted of 209 students. The sample in this study was 68 students selected by cluster random sampling technique. The data collection method used employability scales, entrepreneurial readiness scales, adversity quotient scales, and social intelligence scales. Data were analyzed using the structural equation model (SEM) through the Smart Partial Least Square 3.3.9 program. The results of this study are the formation of a model of the influence of entrepreneurial readiness, adversity quotient, and social intelligence on employability that is appropriate (fit) with empirical data. The adversity quotient has a positive and very significant effect on employability, while entrepreneurship readiness and social intelligence have no impact on employability. This model can be used as a valid reference in developing employability variables.

Context: Research on emotional intelligence (EI) shows this concept's decades-long positive influence on well-being, self-efficacy, employability, and academic and professional achievement. Indeed, several studies have demonstrated that students with high EI have better grades and quality of life, as well as are more employable than students with low EI. By considering the two conceptualizations of EI as either an ability or personality trait, the present study investigates EI's influence on training achievement in initial vocational education and training (IVET). We posited that the two types of EI positively influence training achievement in a complementary way: Ability EI relates to achievement in theoretical training, while trait EI relates to achievement in practical training. Furthermore, these links are mediated by apprentices' engagement at school and in learning. Method: To test our hypotheses, 92 dual IVET health and social care apprentices in their last year of vocational school completed an online survey composed of validated scales measuring EI as an ability, EI as a personality trait, personality traits, and school engagement. The apprentices' grades were also obtained with their permission. Results: The findings confirmed our hypotheses and reflected EI's positive influence on training achievement. We observed that participants with high EI (as an ability and personality trait) obtained better grades than participants with lower EI. Moreover, our results showed that ability EI has a direct influence on achievement in theoretical health and social care training, while the link between trait EI and practical training is indirect and mediated by engagement in learning. Conclusion: The present study confirms EI's positive influence on school achievement in the VET context and further corroborates the important role that EI can play in dual IVET apprentices' achievement, particularly in the health and social sectors. This original study contributes to research on the VET system by placing EI among the skills necessary to ensure professional success.

While improving ability to communicate effectively is a given for developing student leadership potential, there are very few systematic frameworks to guide communication skill improvement. Using a model of emotional and social skills derived from research in interpersonal and emotional/nonverbal communication, tools and strategies for both assessing possession of complex and sophisticated social/communication skills and their development are discussed. This well-researched model breaks down complex communication into well-defined skills that underlie the more abstract leadership competencies of emotional and social intelligences. It provides a foundation for enhancing the emotional and social skills of students that lead them to be more effective in positions of leadership, and in social interactions more generally. Specific strategies for communication skill development are suggested, as well as discussion of formal guides and resources to aid in student leadership development.

Ethical intelligence is the strength of a transformational society. As a change agent, the school leader is expected to be a representative figure of ethical standards. Unfortunately, they are criticized for their unethical activities. Therefore, drawing on the concept of ethical leadership, this study aims to construct the meaning of ethics as they have lived with it, thereby exploring the transformational influences of ethical strengths. Adopting a narrative inquiry research design, lived narratives were generated from four principals of secondary level (Grades 9-12) selected purposively. The narrative data were analyzed and interpreted using Starratt's (2004) theoretical framework of ethical leadership of care, justice and critique. This study explored ethics as the mutual value of individual, institutional and social institutions. Human potentiality is the power of ethical intelligence that derives toward transformation. This finding shed light on the importance and execution of ethical abilities. It shares ethical knowledge, values and skills among individuals, schools and communities. It also portrays ethical sensitivities, which are the core foundation of a transformative society with rational personalities.

This study examines the interplay between academic anxiety, emotional intelligence management, and academic resilience in Chinese international postgraduate students in Thailand. Using a correlational design and a sample of 353 valid participants, the study employed the Weighted Emotional Intelligence Scale (WEIS), Academic Anxiety Scale (AAS), and Academic Resilience Scale-30 (ARS). Contrary to expectations, the analysis revealed no significant differences in academic anxiety, emotional intelligence management, or academic resilience across demographic cohorts (gender, academic major, and occupation). Weak and non-significant correlations were also observed between academic anxiety, emotional intelligence management, and academic resilience. These findings challenge assumptions about demographic influences on these constructs and suggest a broader challenge for international students. Despite the prevalence of academic anxiety and deficiencies in emotional intelligence management and resilience, these constructs were not influenced by demographic factors. The study highlights the importance of holistic educational approaches that prioritize cultural and contextual factors and underscores the need for further research to unravel the complex dynamics of academic anxiety, emotional intelligence, and resilience.

This paper opens with a family anecdote in which my future mother in-law, when asked what wise advice she would offer undergraduate university students, replied, "I would tell them it's not going to be okay." Can we learn to keep engaging with the world despite its inevitable disappointments? I propose that Stoic philosophy, by "orienting" our "attention" and "courage," can help us navigate the troubled post-COVID world we share. To help make this more concrete, I describe a critical moment I observed in which a maskless shopper insulted fellow patrons in a grocery store for wearing a mask. I then develop the Stoic themes of acknowledgement (a commitment to the facts) and affinity (reaching out to others to build community). In the conclusion I return to the "maskless shopper" incident to consider how my two Stoic themes might help open a dialogue with this person. After discussing the limitations to such an undertaking, given the surge in populism over the last decade, I conclude with the appropriately tough-minded Stoic proposition that despite the obstacles, we must keep trying.

In education, understanding the determinants of learners' achievement is crucial. This study aimed to explore the correlation between emotional intelligence (EI) and academic achievement in primary schools. Using Goleman's Emotional Intelligence Assessment Scale adapted for local use, 444 primary school students were assessed via random sampling. Inferential statistical methods, especially multinomial logistic regression, were employed for data analysis. The research revealed that self-regulation, self-awareness, empathy, and motivation significantly influenced academic outcomes compared to high-achieving peer. Additionally, demographic factors played a pertinent role in students' performance. The study's implications highlight the necessity of interventions to nurture EI in students. Recommendations include revising educational policies to cultivate resilient learners, raising awareness among educators, parents, and implementing strategies to enhance children's EI, emphasizing self-regulation, self-awareness, empathy, and motivation. These findings underscore the importance of EI in academic achievement and provide valuable insights for educational practitioners and parents, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to support children's holistic development.

Notwithstanding the pervasive utilization of digital technology in social and educational realms, an in-depth understanding and exploration of the interrelationships amongst digital connectivity, social skills, and emotional intelligence, particularly within Generation Z demographic--known for their heavy reliance on digital platforms--remains elusive. This study endeavors to address this gap. Applying structural equation modeling, it examined the interrelationships between digital connectivity, social skills, and emotional intelligence, surveying a sample of 518 Generation Z students (comprising 77.61% females, 20.64% males, and 1.74% non-binary) across various academic years and disciplines at a university located in Southern Thailand. PLS-SEM software was employed to evaluate the structural model and substantiate the research hypotheses. Our findings suggest that digital connectivity did not detrimentally impact social skills. However, it negatively influenced emotional intelligence among Generation Z students, observable both at the operational level and in terms of fostering the capacity to regulate one's own and others' emotional states. Despite this, social skills proved to significantly enhance emotional intelligence. The same consistent pattern of a positive and significant influence is observed when testing the indirect effect of digital connectivity on emotional intelligence through social skills. Furthermore, it was found that robust and effective digital connectivity could potentially bolster understanding and management of emotions in the digital age, much like well-developed social skills. Hence, this study provides substantial insights into the nuanced impacts of digital connectivity on the social and emotional development of Generation Z students.

Chengdu's popular music, with its profound historical and cultural significance, serves as an educational resource at the intersection of music, literacy, and cultural education. This research aims to propose guidelines for the teaching resource of Chengdu popular music for fostering literacy and cultural education. Located in the culturally diverse Sichuan Province, Chengdu boasts a rich tapestry of musical traditions, from folk to hip-hop, making it an ideal research site. Two key informants, experts in folk and hip-hop music, provide valuable insights into Chengdu's musical evolution. Data analysis involves thematic analysis of questionnaires and interviews, offering a comprehensive understanding of the city's music culture. The study reveals Chengdu's historical role as a cultural crossroads and the evolution of its pop music into a distinctive force within China's music landscape. Advocating for the integration of Chengdu popular music into educational curricula, this research emphasizes the need for well-structured teaching resources to capture its cultural authenticity. The benefits of cultural education include fostering diversity appreciation, enhancing cultural understanding, promoting literacy skills, cultivating emotional intelligence, strengthening cultural identity, and inspiring creativity and expression. Chengdu popular music offers a transformative approach to fostering cultural literacy, empowering students to thrive in a globalized world.

This paper aims to extend our understanding of the factors underlying teacher wellbeing and the stress-coping mechanisms that professionals from the field use in their daily lives. The study focuses on the point of view of EFL teachers working in Andalusia, the southern region of Spain. Through semi-structured interviews and using Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory for the content analysis of data, the project identifies the primary sources of distress and growth that participants link to their profession. Key among them are emotional competence, the school environment, legislation, and boundaries. The study also pinpoints the main stress-coping strategies participants were already implementing in their lives to fight against feelings of burnout. Especially relevant is the practice of hobbies, professional training, and establishing boundaries.

The objective of this study is to investigate the principals' leadership skills in elementary schools to meet the national educational strategy outcomes based on the teachers' views. A quantitative- descriptive approach was applied. The questionnaire was used to collect data. The validity of the questionnaire was measured and the reliability results using Cronbach alpha were 0.948 for educational leadership skills and 0.859 for educational outcomes. The questionnaire was distributed in both male and female schools. A random sample of 385 teachers was included. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling to measure the effects of different variables. The findings indicated that the teachers in the sample had five to fifteen years of experience. The teachers showed principals in the elementary schools have moderate educational leadership (3.39). The results showed that the highest trait that existed among the principals was crisis management with a high-weight regression coefficient (0.693), visionary leadership (0.653) and ethical leadership (0.601). The effect of adaptability, communication skills and strategic planning was less. The least common traits among the principals of elementary schools were emotional intelligence and decision-making skills. The research suggested establishing a programme for elementary school principals to develop their leadership skills in order to support the achievement of national educational objectives.

This collaborative and reflective inquiry-based paper critically examines accessibility within the research realm. We focus this inquiry on the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and specifically address the challenges of establishing accessibility as part of the research enterprise. We acknowledge and reflect on the pivotal role accessibility for persons with disabilities play in an equitable research enterprise and reflect on how nuances in language, behavior, and power dynamics all play a role in creating inclusive environments. This reflective inquiry is a result of a facilitated workshop that took place at a conference attended by professionals working within research administration. Using an inquiry-based workshop approach, facilitators worked with workshop colleagues to discuss, regardless of job title, an ability to influence and shape a more inclusive and accessible system at all levels. Our desired outcomes of this workshop were to collate the collective experiences of our colleagues to uncover barriers and facilitators related to accessibility and to support and learn from our colleagues around ways to create an accessible environment that is a norm. What we find is that accessibility impacts everyone in some way, but it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Collaboration and communication strategies present possible support pathways to more accessible environments.

Educators, including English Language Teaching practitioners, acknowledge the influence of collaborative learning on students' learning experiences, as demonstrated by numerous studies conducted in diverse contexts. This research, however, keeping instructional innovation, students' collaborative engagement, language learning and classroom dynamics especially in the context of an Arab university where such studies are limited, examines the effect of a collaborative learning intervention program on EFL students' English learning and social interactions in terms of teamwork, peer learning, and social intelligence. To achieve the study objective, the quasi-experimental design with two groups (experimental and control) was employed. The study was applied to a sample of prep-year university students who were randomly divided into two groups: control and experimental. While the experimental group studied English using collaborative learning skills, the control group studied following traditional ways of teaching. Both groups were assessed using a pre-and post-test (performance test) and an assessment card (social learning). In addition, teachers were interviewed about their views on how collaborative learning can strengthen EFL students' social learning success. The result revealed statistically significant differences between the scores of the control and experimental groups in favor of the later, indicating that the intervention program highly helped students improve their English learning skills and enrich their social interaction. Finally, the interview analysis highlighted the ways to enhance EFL students' language learning and social interaction through group projects, discussion groups and debates, role-playing and simulations, diverse collaborative learning practices, and effective teacher facilitation. The findings imply that collaborative learning could be a potential treatment to help EFL learners enrich their social learning experience and success. Further research on collaborative learning's extended impacts, teacher readiness, diverse assessment methods, and gender disparities are recommended to address the limitations of the current study.

The adoption of technology in second language (L2) classrooms has been found a complicated process depending on several factors, two of which may play a crucial role in teachers' technology adoption are emotional intelligence (EI) and self-efficacy beliefs. To date, however, there exists little empirical evidence regarding their interaction to predict L2 teachers' technology adoption in Asian countries. To bridge this gap, this quantitative study collected data through three questionnaires from a sample of 214 Chinese English as foreign language (EFL) teachers. The results of structural equation modeling (SEM) and regression analysis revealed that both EI and self-efficacy could, respectively, predict 89% and 63% of variances in Chinese EFL teachers' technology adoption. Drawing on the obtained results, some conclusions, implications, and directions for future research are presented to avid researchers and educators to heighten their knowledge of educational technology and emotions. The improvements in attention by mindfulness training have been proved. However, the effects of mindfulness training on attention to emotional stimuli were mixed. We employed a randomized, controlled design to investigate the effects of mindfulness training on attention to emotional expressions, and investigated whether baseline levels of dispositional mindfulness and emotional intelligence would moderate the intervention effects. Forty participants received 8-week mindfulness training, and another forty participants attended two lectures about mindfulness. All participants completed the visual search task, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and the Emotional Intelligence Scale at both pre-training and post-training. The results showed that the improvements in search efficiencies were larger in the mindfulness group than those in the control group for sad and angry faces, but not for happy faces. In addition, baseline emotional intelligence but not dispositional mindfulness played a significant moderating role in the relationship between mindfulness training and emotional attention to sadness and anger. The search efficiencies of negative emotions (i.e., anger and sadness) but not positive emotions (i.e., happiness) were significantly improved by mindfulness training. Individuals with a high level of baseline emotional intelligence showed significant improvement in search efficiencies relative to those with a low level of emotional intelligence.

Machiavellianism is an antisocial interpersonal style involving the use of manipulative, deceptive, and coercive behaviors in the pursuit of self-interest. Although widely studied as a "dark" personality trait in adults, relatively little is known about the developmental correlates of Machiavellian tendencies earlier in life. The present study addressed this knowledge gap by examining associations between Machiavellian behavior and three theoretically relevant social-emotional domains-prosocial emotions, emotion recognition skills, and self-control--in a community sample of 7- and 11-year-old Canadian children (N = 300, 50% female). Of particular interest was the extent to which individual differences in social-emotional capacities were uniquely associated with Machiavellian behavior after controlling for aggression, a relatively well-studied antisocial behavior in childhood. Parents reported on children's Machiavellian behavior and aggression. Social-emotional correlates were assessed via parent and child reports, behavioral tasks, and physiological assessments. Machiavellian behavior and aggression were similarly associated with lower parent-reported prosocial emotions and self-control. Machiavellian (but not aggressive) behavior was associated with lower child-reported guilt (a prosocial emotion), higher resting skin conductance levels (reflecting a general tendency for higher arousal), and better anger recognition. Semipartial correlational analyses indicated that these patterns of association with Machiavellian behaviors held independent of aggression. These findings indicate that, by middle childhood, Machiavellian behavior constitutes a distinct form of antisocial conduct that is associated with a unique social-emotional risk profile.

The social and emotional development of students is one of the important goals of inclusive education. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the multidimensional social and emotional competencies of students with special educational needs (SEN), with a focus on identifying the areas in which they achieve the highest and lowest levels of proficiency. Furthermore, it will be investigated whether there are gender differences in the social and emotional competencies of students with SEN, and differences in comparison to students without SEN. This research is based on the CASEL conceptual framework of social and emotional learning. A random sample of teachers (N = 54) assess the social and emotional competencies of both students with SEN (N = 54) and students without SEN (N = 54) with Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA). Participants completed questionnaires online in spring of 2021. The results show that students with SEN exhibit the highest level of competence in relationship skills and optimistic thinking, whereas the lowest level of competence is found in goal-directed behaviour and self-management. There were no discernible gender differences observed in the social and emotional competences of students with SEN. Compared to students without SEN, they exhibit statistically significant lower levels of every social and emotional competency. The findings indicate the necessity of implementing interventions targeting goal-directed behaviours and self-management of students with SEN.

Moderating the intensity and expression of our emotions is necessary for successful engagement in learning. This systematic review explored, "what are schools doing to support autistic children and young people to develop their emotion regulation skills?" Critical analyses considered the inclusiveness of interventions and whether/how autistic pupils were asked about their participation. PsycINFO, Web of Science (Core Collection) and ERIC were searched on 18 July 2022. Eight studies were included, incorporating 419 autistic pupils, aged three to 17, from at least 955 schools in the USA, Australia and France. A narrative synthesis was used to provide an overview of the literature. Seven different approaches to emotion regulation were utilised, and only one was used in the school prior to the research. Forty out of 419 autistic pupils were asked for their views of the intervention they received. There is a lack of research considering school-led approaches to embedding emotion regulation skill development in everyday school practices and a lack of involvement of autistic pupil's views about emotion-regulation interventions. More research is needed to enable educational professionals to provide evidence-informed support for autistic pupils to develop their emotion regulation skills.

Students must receive the knowledge and skills they require for succeeding in a constantly changing world. Meeting each student's diverse needs, nevertheless, is difficult. For the purpose to promote student development and improve educational outcomes, this review study attempts to give a thorough conceptual framework for integrating both cognitive and non-cognitive learning methodologies. While non-cognitive learning focuses on social and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and resilience, cognitive learning involves the acquisition of intellectual skills and critical thinking. Both types of education are essential for children's holistic development. Integrating non-cognitive and cognitive approaches in education sector has several advantages. It promotes a well-rounded education by offering a balanced approach that addresses the intellectual, emotional, and social elements of student progress. To support the suggested conceptual framework, a thorough analysis of recent research on the subject is conducted. The implementation of cognitive and non-cognitive learning in the present condition is examined through a bibliometric analysis, which identifies research trends and gaps. In addition, a SWOT analysis has been done to assess the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities, and threats related to these strategies. The issues and areas that require additional research and development are better understood due to this analysis. The research's conclusions demonstrate the importance of adopting a well-rounded educational strategy which considers various demands of students. The education system can encourage academic performance, critical thinking, socio-emotional well-being, and prepare students for success in a variety of spheres of life by integrating cognitive and non-cognitive learning. It also points out the research gaps and underlines the value of further study for enhancing comprehension and cognitive and non-cognitive learning methodologies' application.

This study investigated the executive functions (EF) of preschool children and their associations with emotional, linguistic, and cognitive skills, using parent and teacher reports. A total of 130 children aged 34 to 71 months participated. The preschool version of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF-P) was completed by both parents and teachers to assess behavioral difficulties in the use of EFs, while children were administered the Test of Emotion Comprehension (TEC), the Test of Language Evaluation (TVL), and the Coloured Progressive Matrices (CPM). Statistical analyses revealed significant differences between parents' and teachers' reports, with parents attributing to children more EF difficulties than parents. Children's EF difficulties were negatively associated with emotion comprehension, language ability, and non-verbal intelligence, although correlations were stronger when using teachers' reports. The value of using indirect measurement of preschoolers' EF problems and the importance of adopting a multi-informant approach are discussed.

Emotional intelligence (EI) has a positive correlation with the academic performance of medical students. However, why there is a positive correlation needs further exploration. We hypothesized that the capability of answering higher-order knowledge questions (HOQs) is higher in students with higher EI. Hence, we assessed the correlation between EI and the capability of medical students to answer HOQs in physiology. First-year undergraduate medical students (n = 124) from an Indian medical college were recruited as a convenient sample. EI was assessed by the Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT), a 33-item self-administered validated questionnaire. A specially designed objective examination with 15 lower-order and 15 higher-order multiple-choice questions was conducted. The correlation between the examination score and the EI score was tested by Pearson's correlation coefficient. Data from 92 students (33 females and 59 males) with a mean age of 20.14±1.87 yr were analyzed. Overall, students got a percentage of 53.37±14.07 in the examination, with 24.46±9.1 in HOQs and 28.91±6.58 in lower-order knowledge questions (LOQs). They had a mean score of 109.58±46.2 in SSEIT. The correlation coefficient of SSEIT score with total marks was r ¼ 0.29 (P ¼ 0.0037), with HOQs was r ¼ 0.41 (P < 0.0001), and with LOQs was r = 0.14 (P = 0.19). Hence, there is a positive correlation between EI and the capability of medical students to answer HOQs in physiology. This study may be the foundation for further exploration of the capability of answering HOQs in other subjects.

This research aims to determine the influence of emotional intelligence and school principal leadership on teacher work behavior at the Public Senior High Schools (SMA) in Palopo. This research employs a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto causal design, involving 77 teachers from the Public Senior High Schools in Palopo as the research sample. Data analysis is conducted using multiple linear regression analysis with the assistance of SPSS, including partial t-tests and simultaneous F-tests. When considered simultaneously, the research findings indicate that emotional intelligence and school principal leadership significantly affect teacher work behavior, with a significance value of 0.002 < 0.005 and a determination coefficient of 45.4%. These results suggest that as the level of emotional intelligence and the effectiveness of school principal leadership increase, so does the quality of teacher work behavior in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities as educators. The implications of this research reveal that one of the contributing factors to the quality of teacher work behavior is the emotional intelligence of the school principal, coupled with their leadership, which influences teachers to exhibit positive work behavior.

The emotional intelligence models have helped to develop different tools for construct assessment. Each theoretical paradigm conceptualizes emotional intelligence from one of two perspectives: ability or mixed model. Ability models consider emotional intelligence as a pure form of mental ability and therefore as pure intelligence. Mixed models of emotional intelligence combine mental capacity with personality traits. The trait models of emotional intelligence refer to the individual perceptions of their own emotional abilities. Cognitive learning involves placing new information into existing frameworks and modes of understanding.

The Social Shapes Test (SST) is a measure of social intelligence which does not use human faces or rely on extensive verbal ability. The SST has shown promising validity among adults without autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but it is uncertain whether it is suitable for adults with ASD. We find measurement invariance between adults with (n = 229) or without ASD (n = 1,049) on the 23-item SST. We also find that adults without ASD score higher on the SST than adults with ASD (d = 0.21). We also provide two, 14-item versions which demonstrated good parallel test-retest reliability and are positively related to scores on the Frith-Happé task. The SST is suitable for remote, online research studies.

Purpose: We studied the role of gender in metacognition of voice emotion recognition ability (ERA), reflected by self-rated confidence (SRC). To this end, we guided our study in two approaches: first, by examining the role of gender in voice ERA and SRC independently and second, by looking for gender effects on the ERA association with SRC. Method: We asked 100 participants (50 men, 50 women) to interpret a set of vocal expressions portrayed by 30 actors (16 men, 14 women) as defined by their emotional meaning. Targets were 180 repetitive lexical sentences articulated in congruent emotional voices (anger, sadness, surprise, happiness, fear) and neutral expressions. Trial by trial, the participants were assigned retrospective SRC based on their emotional recognition performance. Results: A binomial generalized linear mixed model (GLMM) estimating ERA accuracy revealed a significant gender effect, with women encoders (speakers) yielding higher accuracy levels than men. There was no significant effect of the decoder's (listener's) gender. A second GLMM estimating SRC found a significant effect of encoder and decoder genders, with women outperforming men. Gamma correlations were significantly greater than zero for women and men decoders. Conclusions: In spite of varying interpretations of gender in each independent rating (ERA and SRC), our results suggest that both men and women decoders were accurate in their metacognition regarding voice emotion recognition. Further research is needed to study how individuals of both genders use metacognitive knowledge in their emotional recognition and whether and how such knowledge contributes to effective social communication.

Although emotions constitute an integral aspect of teachers' lives, emotions experienced by teachers of English as a foreign language (EFL) in higher education, settings are relatively under-researched. Through in-depth interviews, this study aims to capture a small cohort of nine EFL female teachers' emotional experiences when teaching English-major students in a large public university in Saudi Arabia. Methods of inductive thematic analysis helped capture the participants' emotional experiences during teaching. The analysis of their emotional experiences is informed by Benesch's (2017) critical approach to teachers' emotions. The study revealed that relationships in the classroom and the institutional system greatly influence how teachers construct, express, and communicate their emotions. Teachers' passion for teaching, students' classroom engagement, and students' appreciation of teachers' efforts triggered the teachers' sense of happiness and pride and contributed to their occasional positive valence. However, teachers often experienced anger, frustration, demoralization, anxiety, and sadness as a result of feeling disempowered when dealing with students' disruptive behaviours and constraining institutional policies. The study suggests that teachers' emotions influenced their pedagogical practices and physical and psychological wellbeing. Therefore, to support teachers' emotional competence, mitigate teachers' emotional difficulties experienced during teaching, and enhance classroom teaching and learning, educational institutions, program leaders, and policymakers need to acknowledge the centrality of teachers' emotions in the EFL classroom.

Introduction: The main objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and victimization and aggression through social networks in adolescents. Bullying causes situations of conflict between students and teachers, being currently a phenomenon of great importance in the socio-educational environment requiring special attention, where EI acts as a protective mechanism against such situations, which differs in relation to gender and socio-family environment. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and ex post facto study was carried out. The sample consisted of 126 students between 15 and 17 years of age, 51.6% male and 48.4% female; differentiations are established according to this as part of the study method. The instruments used were the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Inventory, the School Victimization Scale, and the Scale of aggressions through cell phones and the Internet (CYB-AG), using IBM SPSS software for statistical analysis. Results: The results obtained confirmed that the subjects who had suffered bullying or cyberbullying had a slightly lower level of EI and that, although traditionally the relationship between bully-bullied was emphasized, there are more factors that affect these cases with gender. Given that a higher score in EI is presented in the case of the female gender than in the male gender, being more significant in the stress management dimension. Discussion or Conclusion: The school and the family must work together to prevent peer violence, because it has serious consequences on those who suffer it. School bullying not only influences to a great extent the EI of the victims, but also bullying is determined by the low EI of the aggressors, certainly in relation to the management of stress.

Introduction: This study investigated the possible existence of differences in several domains or traits of the general construct of emotional intelligence between highly able children and their normotypically developing peers. Method: A group of children with high abilities and a group of children with average intellectual development completed at two different times an emotional quotient assessment scale EQ-i:YV. BarOn Emotional Intelligence Inventory: youth version. The total sample consisted of 187 Spanish minors, aged between 8 and 17 years. Of these, 118 participants belonged to the high ability group, 38 females and 80 males, with a mean age of 11.2 years. The normotypical development group consisted of 69 participants, of whom 23 were female and 46 were male, with an average age of 11.7 years. Results: On the one hand, it was found that children with high abilities had higher scores than their peers in the Adaptability subscale, and at the same time showed lower scores in Intrapersonal Intelligence and Mood. No differences were found in either Stress Management or Interpersonal Intelligence. Importantly, when the results were analysed from a general perspective without delving into each trait, the polarity of these differences (some being positive and others negative) cancelled out the overall appearance of differences, giving rise to the erroneous consideration of the absence of differences between groups. Discussion or Conclusion: These findings provide great value for breaking myths about high abilities and for guiding educational practice towards the development of useful educational and social programmes for the affective development of the population with high abilities, taking into account emotional strengths and weaknesses.

Introduction: The objective of the present study was to determine if emotional intelligence and family stress are predictors of satisfaction with studies in university students. Method: Cross-sectional predictive study with a quantitative approach. The population was made up of 414 university students of both sexes who applied the TMMS-24 Emotional Intelligence Scale by Salovey and Mayer Family Stress Scale, the original version of Olson, and the Brief Satisfaction with Studies EBSE scale. Results: When performing statistical processing, it was evident that family stress has a standardized beta coefficient [beta] = -0.116; p < 0.05 indicates a low, statistically significant, indirect prediction. In other words, the greater the family stress, the lower the satisfaction with studies. In the same way, the standardized beta coefficient that represents the prediction of emotional intelligence on satisfaction with studies, which was [beta] = 0.470; p < 0.05, showed a direct, moderate, and statistically significant predictive value. Discussion and Conclusions: The results establish that emotional intelligence and family stress predict satisfaction with studies. The areas that are part of emotional intelligence, such as perception, understanding, and regulation, are related to family stress levels, and these influence the degree of satisfaction with studies. The greater the emotional intelligence, the greater the satisfaction with studies and different life stages.

Enhancing students' intercultural competences through international higher education requires a thorough understanding of the way in which these competences develop over time, how they relate to outcomes, and which factors predict their growth. To answer these questions, a three-wave longitudinal study was conducted among a sample of first-year students in an international university program (n = 425). Intercultural competences were operationalized through the five dimensions of the Multicultural Personality Questionnaire (MPQ): Cultural Empathy, Openmindedness, Flexibility, Social Initiative and Emotional Stability. We examined development of these traits across one year, as well as their relationship with stress, life satisfaction, and academic performance (GPA). Cultural background (local vs. international student) and prior international experience (yes/no) were included as predictors. Results show that MPQ scores at the beginning of the year negatively relate to change across semester 1, which in turn is negatively related to change across semester 2. These findings suggest the presence of ceiling effects in MPQ development. In semester 1, emotional stability acts as a buffer against stress. In semester 2, stress is lower among students with higher scores on cultural empathy, and lower scores on flexibility. Cultural empathy and social initiative relate positively to academic performance. No significant main effects were found for cultural background, or prior international experience. However, these predictors interact on openmindedness and social initiative: local students with no prior international experience show a significant increase in these dimensions across the first semester, whereas the others do not.

Developing socio-emotional skills is essential for improving university students' quality of life and subjective well-being. These skills also play a crucial role in initial teacher education, as they are responsible for their students' cognitive, emotional and social development. The objective of the present study is to analyse the perceived impact of an emotional education programme for teachers in training. A total of 56 student teachers, from seven different master's degree programmes, completed a six-session programme. The evaluation was conducted through an experiential portfolio, which included the challenges and dynamics experienced in terms of emotional experience, the meaning of these experiences, and the difficulties and gains. The results revealed that, despite some difficulties, participation in the programme was considered by the participants as contributing to their emotional literacy, such as the ability to express and understand their own emotions and those of others, and to a growing sense of empathy and connectedness. This study highlights the importance of continuously investing in teachers' socioemotional growth and competence during their training and teaching careers.

This mixed-methods study investigated the effects of a traditional play program (TPP) on 48 children's emotional intelligence (EQ), social ability (SA), and self-esteem (SE), important skills for children's overall well-being and development. The participants were recruited from two child welfare centers (CCs) and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in a 13-week, biweekly 40-minute TPP designed to improve these skills. The analysis revealed TPP's efficacy in improving EQ, SA, and SE, with consequent implications for child welfare centers' interventions. Future research should focus on understanding underlying mechanisms and generalizability to other groups.

When providing healthcare services, healthcare students face a variety of ethical issues and conflicts daily. Such characteristics as ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence are influential in determining an individual's performance and can prove useful in coping with challenges in life. Given the significance of these two variables in the career prospects and educational and professional lives of students, the present cross-sectional study with 486 students majoring in nursing, operating room, and anesthesia, aims to investigate the relationship between ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence. Data were collected using demographics, ethical sensitivity, and emotional intelligence. The students' ethical sensitivity level was high, while their emotional intelligence was average. Regression analysis revealed that students' ethical sensitivity was related to their emotional intelligence and gender. There is also a significant correlation between ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence on one hand and gender on the other: female students possess higher levels of ethical sensitivity, while male students have greater emotional intelligence. Students in nursing schools may benefit from greater insight into the concepts of ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence and ways to enhance them.

The current study comparatively examines the emotional intelligence and perfectionism of gifted and non-identified students. A total of 857 students participated in the study. Data were collected through the Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale, which measures students' perfectionism levels and the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory Youth Version EQ-i:YV, which measures students' emotional intelligence. Our findings indicate that gifted students' scores in the intrapersonal and adaptability subdimensions of emotional intelligence and their overall scores in emotional intelligence are higher than those of non-identified students; while non-identified students' average score of positive perfectionism is higher than that of the gifted students. Additionally, we found a negative correlation between positive impression and negative perfectionism in the non-identified group, while the correlation between these variables was positive amongst the gifted participants. Our findings may help design successful educational and guidance programmes for the gifted and their non-identified peers and in-service programmes for their teachers and counsellors.

Students face various barriers in learning English via distance education. The purpose of this explanatory mixed methods study was to collect quantitative and qualitative data regarding students' emotional intelligence (EI) and the situational barriers (SB) they faced in learning English via distance education. In phase one, 238 students voluntarily submitted their questionnaires containing Schutte's Self-Report Inventory Emotional Intelligence scale. The mean EI score of the distance learners was 130. Based on the EI scores, three subgroups of respondents; HighEI, MidEI, and LowEI were identified. In phase two, 18 participants chosen based on their EI scores were interviewed. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using content analysis. The qualitative data revealed eight major situational barriers. Out of these, SB1 Job, SB2 Family and Home, and SB4 Time were most frequently cited. The study also found that distance learners' EI was significantly related to their perceptions of the situational barriers to learning English through distance education. Studies affirmed higher EI students are better at moderating the negative effects of challenging circumstances and achieving their goals. Thus, it is crucial to fortify students' EI through training, mentoring, and counselling programs to empower them to moderate their barriers, persevere, communicate with others, and make informed decisions to achieve academic success.

High levels of stress among supervisors can diminish afterschool program quality and negatively affect the learning and development of children and youth. One solution may be training in emotional intelligence. In other fields, high emotional intelligence among leaders was found to mitigate workplace stress and to increase job productivity, job satisfaction, and attainment of positive results. This study helps address the lack of scientific research on the role of emotional intelligence in afterschool supervisors' ability to manage stress at work. In this quantitative correlational study, the author investigated the relationship between the emotional intelligence of afterschool supervisors serving low-income communities in New York City and their perceived workplace stress. The study found a negative correlation--that is, supervisors with higher emotional intelligence tended to have lower workplace stress. The results can help afterschool supervisors and organization leaders understand the importance of emotional intelligence for effective program management.

Purpose: Individuals have an innate desire to matter to others. Perceived mattering, the cognitive process of self-evaluating one's significance to other people, plays an integral role in self-perception, especially among marginalized populations. This descriptive study investigated research administrators' perceived mattering and factors that influence feelings of marginality and isolation in their workplaces. Methods: The survey instrument, Marginalization in Research Administration Survey, was electronically distributed to 7,500 research administrators who are members of the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). The e-survey items were derived from the Physical Education Marginalization and Isolation Survey (PE-MAIS) (Gaudreault et al., 2017) and the Perceived Mattering Questionnaire-Physical Education (PMQ-PE) (Richards et al., 2017), which are validated instruments used to capture perceptions of marginality and isolation (PE-MAIS) and perceived mattering (PMQ-PE). Survey items were modified for word choice to be specific to research administration. Results: The study revealed salary range as a significant factor among research administrators who perceived marginality, isolation, and mattering. Specifically, research administrators with the lowest salary reported higher levels of marginality and isolation than those with higher salaries. Mid-career research administrators seeing increases in salary and time on the job reported high levels of marginality and isolation. Number of years in the profession influenced groups' perceived isolation depending on organization type. Lastly, perceived mattering increased through each salary stage. Discussion/Conclusions: Understanding how salary is likely tied to prioritization and the roles research administrators assume based on their organization type helps to identify perceptions of mattering within the social context of the research administrator profession and provide necessary information to address marginality.

Learners from different generations have enrolled and graduated from educational institutions for many decades, but educators have been using the same strategies despite what generation they teach in their classrooms. A new generation of students has occupied today's classrooms who are called 'Generation Z' or Gen Z for short, and they are colloquially called 'Zoomers'. They have unique characteristics and expectations, and they were raised with technology. They are digitally connected all the time, and it is necessary to check the quality of education given to them. Educational quality is a crucial topic worldwide and it is the need of the hour to discuss the quality of educators. To a large extent, teachers are considered the key factor in determining, and improving the quality of our educational systems. Presently, our teachers are expected to provide a quality hybrid delivery of teaching that best fits Gen Z learners. In the present century, teachers face greater challenges than ever before. The augmented skills of educators with modern, innovative, and creative strategies are the most in demand in this digital world. As new skills and technologies take over all the fields, educators also need to up-skill and re-skill themselves. This white paper discusses the augmented skills of the educators who teach Generation Z and the future generations to come.

When it comes to fake news, no medium circulates and reaches more youth than social media. Social media can provide an opportunity for students to create and post with an authentic audience; however, social media can also perpetuate the danger of fake news. Youth across the globe emotionally engage with content several hours a day and can become vulnerable to the clickbait style of news. Therefore, although research has studied how critical literacy instruction supports informed reading, literacy instruction must also address students' emotional regulation needs. This research-to-practice article describes the dangers of fake news on youth interactions and provides practical emotional regulation tips for teachers. Emotional regulation strategies in this paper specifically concentrate on implementing affect labeling and mindful breathing in classrooms in order to support informed literacy.

Latent Class and Latent Profile Models are widely used in psychological assessment settings, especially when individual differences are suspected to be related to unobserved class memberships, such as different personality types. This paper provides an easy-to-follow introduction and application of the methodology to the data collected as part of more extensive educational research investigating social-emotional competency profiles of preservice teachers (n=184) who responded to an Emotional Awareness Questionnaire. Suspected that there would be two or more latent emotional awareness sub-groups in the sample, a series of latent profile models was estimated. The results suggested three distinct emotional awareness profiles; namely, introverted, extroverted, and less sensitive to others' emotions, with proportions of 9%, 56%, and 35%, respectively. Subsequent analyses showed that preservice teachers with higher levels of emotionality, sociability, and well-being were more likely to be in the extroverted profile. The findings suggest that nearly half of the teachers in the sample could be expected to possess the most professionally desirable teacher profile. Nonetheless, it was noted that if timely diagnostic and tailored training or intervention programs were available, at least some of the preservice teachers in the less sensitive to others' profiles, and most of the preservice teachers in the introverted profile could be helped to self-observe the way which they tend to identify and regulate their emotions.

In this study, we designed an evaluation form to assess the emotional quotient of Thai university students. The indicators and components of the evaluation were developed from theories and principles regarding emotional intelligence. After the process of content validity assessment, the evaluation consists of 80 indicators in 5 components of Self-awareness, Self-regulation, Self-Motivation, Recognizing Emotions in Others, and Social Skills. In detail, the evaluation was found to have an index of congruence (IOC) of 0.50-1.00, discrimination of 0.472-0.817, and reliability of 0.991. It was later tested for construct validity with 200 Thai university students selected by stratified sampling method. The method of confirmatory factor analysis was employed. The results of the study indicate the evaluation construct validity as the goodness of fit indices passed the criteria and the evaluation model fits the empirical data. Chi -- Square = 87.436, df = 73, Chi-Square /df = 1.197, p-value = 0.119, CFI = 0.997, TLI = 0.995, RMSEA = 0.031, and SRMR = 0.021.

As an educationist over the years, I have experienced principals' outburst and their tendency to make a scene out of seemly minor issues that could have been addressed with little modesty. This behaviour has led to an uproar amongst parents, teachers and learners about the school principals' insensitiveness which is attributed to lack of emotional intelligence (EI) competency. The study is underpinned by the transformational leadership theory which aims at pioneering change of attitude in school leadership so that different educational actors could be influenced to achieve the school and overall educational objectives. This qualitative study generated data from five (5) conveniently selected secondary school principals, five (5) parents and five (5) teachers using semi-structured interviews. Using thematic analysis method, the study revealed that principals with EI are able to enhance school performance and satisfy parents. Thus, the study revealed that EI is useful in establishing and maintaining good relationships with different school stakeholders. It is fundamental in managing conflicts in schools and facilitates constructive management of any stressful situations. The study further revealed that principals could acquire this skill through self-enrichment and induction initiatives by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). It is recommended that before principals are appointed, they should be subjected to multiple aptitude tests to evaluate their knowledge and competencies. Furthermore MoET through its experts should continually induct principals on EI aspects.

The aim of this survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between prosocial tendencies and the level of emotional intelligence in a sample of teachers. The partial goals were to determine whether there is a difference in the score of emotional intelligence and prosocial tendencies between male and female teachers. The research group consisted of 997 primary and secondary school teachers, of whom 109 were men (average age 44.9 years) and 889 women (average age 45.17 years). The Czech translation of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire - Short form, TEIQue-SF was used to determine the emotional intelligence score. The second method applied in the research is the abbreviated form of the Prosocial Personality Battery (PSB). The correlation coefficient calculation shows a significant negative relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and age, and the length of work experience. This result was found both within the group as a whole and for the individual groups of men and women.

Emotional labor is an area of the wide field of emotions that has been studied by several disciplines. However, it has not been sufficiently approached from an educational perspective, especially that of EFL teachers. In order to contribute to this research area, this study explores a small number of EFL secondary school teachers' emotional experiences in the workplace. The purpose is to understand the factors and main aspects of how EFL teachers experience emotional labor, and to raise awareness of the negative impact that emotional labor may have on a teacher's personal and professional life. For this qualitative case study, data were collected using a semi-structured interview. Given the nature of the data, aspects of grounded theory were used to analyze the information. Findings led to a deeper understanding of some of the factors that influence EFL teachers emotionally, including issues regarding emotional labor, burnout in the working context, coping strategies, and the extent to which the emotions teachers experience impact their practice.

This study investigated the relationship between job satisfaction, emotional intelligence, and organizational commitment to job performance among teachers in the Aparri East District. Involving 145 teachers across five secondary schools, the study used a descriptive correlational research method. Results showed high levels of emotional intelligence among teachers, despite room for improvement in stress management. Teachers reported high job satisfaction but were dissatisfied with the promotion speed. The workload and paperwork were stressful, and concerns were raised about policy fairness, despite satisfaction with salaries and benefits. Several factors influenced teachers' emotional intelligence, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment, including educational attainment, nature of appointment, plantilla position, monthly income, type of school, and school assignment. A complex relationship was found between emotional intelligence, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and job performance. Emotional intelligence negatively correlated with job satisfaction but positively with job performance. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment negatively correlated, without significant correlation to job performance. The study proposes recommendations to improve job satisfaction and performance, including promoting gender diversity,supporting early-career teachers, fostering an inclusive curriculum, encouraging continuous professional development, reducing workload and administrative burdens, enhancing supervisor fairness, improving promotion prospects and recognition, optimizing working conditions, fostering positive co-worker relationships, and further research. Implementation of these recommendations can enhance job satisfaction, improve performance, and lead to better student outcomes.

The objective of this study was to examine the role resilience plays in the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and anxiety and life satisfaction. A total of 470 students from the University of Zagreb in Croatia participated in the study. The results are explained within the framework of McCrae and Costa's (1991) temperament and instrumental model of personality and well-being. A path analysis and a bootstrapping resampling method were performed. Higher levels of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability were associated with higher levels of resilience, which was related to lower levels of anxiety and higher life satisfaction. It can be concluded that resilience is a full mediator between extraversion and conscientiousness on the one hand, and life satisfaction and anxiety on the other. In addition, resilience is a partial mediator between agreeableness and emotional stability, and also between life satisfaction and anxiety. The practical contribution of the study lies in understanding how to better support students' mental health by targeting the protective factors of different personality traits.
