The paper seeks to study organizational identity attainment through strategic linguistic practices, understood as performative strategizing. The article focuses on the interaction of organizational identity and strategy by analyzing the evolution of an electronic engineering company from its founding to maturity over eighteen years. Combining action research and grounded theory, the study identifies the features inherent to organizational identity attainment. The author observed strategic linguistic practices in the company, studied archival documents, and delved deeply into strategy formation as a practitioner, interacting directly with strategists to comprehend organizational identity attainment. The research shows that self-fulfillment, effective communication, and readiness for external challenges are the main features of organizational identity attainment through performative strategizing. In this article, we study how a luxury fashion engineering company strategically introduced sustainability‐oriented innovations (SOIs) over time through an in‐depth longitudinal analysis of a leading Italian business‐to‐business (B2B) firm. We apply a strategic management perspective to this first‐tier engineering manufacturer to bring new insights into how upstream firms deploy SOIs and to what effect, thus determining long‐term technological choices in the industry. We observe that such innovations evolved dynamically from the process dimension to the supply chain and, lastly, to the product dimension, thereby spanning explorational, procedural and communicational practices. We find that the company sustained significant growth over a decade while implementing its sustainability transition, thanks to three elements: a broad and wide‐ranging experimentation in all areas of the company, a continuous dynamic process of learning‐by‐doing and a commitment of the top management to prioritize new sustainable practices. Purpose: Just like human beings, some companies engage in recurrent bad behaviour that negatively impacts their stakeholders and their prospects for long-term survival. For example, some firms become caught up in a vortex of corruption. SNC-Lavalin, a large Canadian consulting engineering company, is an example of one organisation that embarked on this path. Since then, the company has taken numerous steps to overcome its persistent problems with corruption. The object of this study is to determine whether these steps can be compared to the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which is recognised for helping individuals overcome addiction to alcohol and drugs. Design/methodology/approach: To examine events at SNC-Lavalin between 2000 and 2022, the authors carry out an in-depth examination of internal and external documentation. Three sources of data are used: archival documents, news articles and corporate documentation. Findings: The results of the analysis show that the AA 12-step program seems to correspond to the steps SNC-Lavalin has taken over time. The "organisational" version of this program that the authors have developed could be useful to advisers of companies that are struggling with other types of bad behaviour and wish to stamp it out. These bad behaviours include the exploitation of vulnerable manpower, the exploitation of consumers through planned obsolescence or aggressive sales practices and pollution in all its forms. Research limitations/implications: The study has certain limitations. It should be noted that the analyses were limited to public information. In addition, given the quantity of public information available for the period from 2009 to 2022, a methodical approach to selecting the sources of information elements was applied, which inevitably entailed ignoring other sources of information (e.g. television, radio and internet). Originality/value: This study adds to previous work by providing an original and global perspective of the steps taken by a large international consulting engineering firm to overcome its recurring corruption problems. The parallel drawn with AA's 12-step programs seems to correspond surprisingly well to the steps taken by the company. This parallel can potentially serve as a roadmap for advisers who have to counsel companies on recurring misconduct that has harmful repercussions for their stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aiming at the problem of excessive energy consumption in the thermal regeneration system of a rectisol process in a certain petrochemical engineering company, process improvement is carried out. A closed heat pump distillation model was proposed, using NRTL thermodynamic model with annual total cost and thermodynamic efficiency as objective functions. Process parameters were optimized and their economic and environmental benefits were analyzed under different compression ratios. The research results show that closed heat pump distillation can effectively reduce the use of superheated steam and condensate when the compression ratio is 1.8, and the total energy consumption is reduced by 62.71% . When the investment payback period are 5 years and 8 years, annual total cost is reduced by 15.64% and 32.79%, respectively. The thermodynamic efficiency has been improved from the original 8.78% to 20.96%, which has excellent economic and environ-mental benefits, and the results of the study are expected to provide guidance for the development and design of advanced heat pump distillation technology. Engineering companies face the challenge of optimising margins within product platforms while balancing individual product optimisation and maximising platform commonality. Key obstacles include organisational silos, diverse design variables, design space allocation, and varying time perspectives. This paper proposes a value-based modelling methodology that integrates both internal and external variety within the manufacturer. Using an automotive Head-Up Display (HUD) case study, we demonstrate how to effectively utilise platform margins to maximise technological variety and minimise internal variety, thereby enhancing long-term system value. This approach helps design teams understand the implications of their decisions, optimise platform margins to meet evolving technological demands, reduce costs, and maximise value. Our findings advance the understanding of margin optimisation in product platforms and support informed decision-making for engineering companies facing conflicting objectives. The primary objective of this article is to identify and analyze the factors influencing the labor relations system in knowledge-based organizations (engineering companies affiliated with the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support). The research is grounded in a data-driven approach and was conducted using grounded theory methodology. The research population consisted of experts in management, specializing in public administration, human resources, and organizational relations (those who had published books or articles), as well as managers and deputies of engineering companies affiliated with the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support. Based on the criterion of theoretical saturation, 15 individuals were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews using Maxqda12 software. As a result, 131 initial concepts (open codes) and 19 main concepts (axial codes) were identified, which were categorized into a paradigmatic model comprising six selective codes, including causal factors (3 components and 37 indicators), contextual factors (5 components and 29 indicators), strategic factors (2 components and 11 indicators), intervening factors (4 components and 11 indicators), the main phenomenon (3 components and 22 indicators), and outcomes (2 components and 20 indicators). This paper considers peer monitoring in a capital budgeting setting with information asymmetry between principal and agents. The paper demonstrates in a two‐agent, two‐project setting that the principal can have each agent reveal their private information on the other agent's project, at an arbitrarily low cost. Next, an examination of monitoring resource allocations is made. Specifically, a comparison is made of broad monitoring, which spreads monitoring resources equally across agents' projects, and focused monitoring, which applies all monitoring resources to a single agent's project. Focused monitoring is preferred within an intermediate range of profitability, above which broad monitoring is preferred and below which neither is preferred. If project profitability is heterogeneous and focused monitoring is preferred, the more profitable project receives the focus. Both of these results occur because there is a threshold of monitoring resources that must be deployed for monitoring to provide any benefit, and the threshold is higher (more resources must be deployed) for lower profitability projects. That is, even if all monitoring resources are devoted to a low profitability project, they may provide no benefit to the principal. This paper studies the role of trade for the joint uptake of AI‐enabled automation in manufacturing and engineering. It develops an agent‐based model (ABM) where the agents are heterogeneous manufacturers and engineering firms. The ABM features two technology‐related business models: engineering as a face‐to‐face consultancy service and engineering as automated software. The software adoption rate follows an S‐shaped curve for manufacturers and a boom and bust cycle for engineers. In the early phase, shortage of engineers constrains AI uptake, while engineers become abundant when AI is fully adopted. Trade affects the cut‐off productivity level at which manufacturers switch technology, the shape of the adoption rate curve, and the incentives for engineers to develop software. We investigate how management quality moderates the impact of carbon pricing on Chinese firms. Based on interviews with managers and lead engineers at manufacturing firms in Hubei and Beijing, we construct a novel index of climate-change-related management practices and link it to firm data from various sources. We document higher average productivity and more green innovation among firms that are well managed according to the index. In an event study of the introduction of regional cap-and-trade schemes for CO2, we analyze how management quality interacts with treatment. While treated firms reduced coal consumption more than control firms, this effect is statistically significant only for well-managed firms. The reduction could have been 25% greater if badly managed firms had been well managed. Our study highlights that good management practices, in particular energy monitoring, enhance the effectiveness of market-based climate policies by enabling firms to rationally comply with those policies. Purpose: This study intends to examine the factors that impact the intention and actual usage of Electronic Knowledge Repositories (EKR) by knowledge seekers in the Indian software sector. The study examines how perceived utility, perceived output quality, resource availability, and perceived organisational structure support influence the adoption of EKR. Design/methodology/approach: The data were gathered from 505 employees in 27 software engineering companies in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India using a self-administered survey. The study employed structural equation modelling (SEM) to examine the connections among the variables. Findings: The findings suggest that perceived usefulness, perceived output quality, resource availability, and reported organisational structure support have a favourable impact on the desire to adopt EKR. Using EKR favourably influences its utilisation by knowledge seekers in the Indian software sector. Research limitations/implications: The study focussed exclusively on the software sector in the NCR area of India, perhaps restricting the applicability of the results. Future studies should examine more variables that impact EKR adoption and study various organisational contexts. Practical implications: The research indicates that organisations should prioritise improving the perceived utility of EKR, assuring high output quality, allocating sufficient resources for EKR access, and maintaining supporting organisational structures to encourage EKR adoption among knowledge seekers. Originality/value: This study experimentally investigates the characteristics that influence EKR adoption in the Indian software sector, contributing to existing literature. The dynamic monitoring of biomolecules that are part of cell membranes generally constitutes a challenge. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor assemblies provide clear advantages concerning microscopic imaging. Therefore, this paper proposes and analyzes a quantum dots-based biosensor assembly. Thus, particular attention is granted to biomolecules that are part of cell membranes. Additionally, this paper describes and analyzes a quantum dots-based biosensor assembly, which is used to implement a fully functional color ECL visualization system that allows for cellular and biomolecular structures to be accurately visualized. The related nano-emitter allows the implementation of real-time bioimaging scenarios. Consequently, the proposed approach is thoroughly evaluated relative to the time-dependent evolution of biomolecules. It has been demonstrated that traditionally problematic structures, like the biomolecules that are part of cell membranes, can be studied and monitored relative to their time-dependent dynamic evolution using the proposed solution. The reported research process has been conducted in the realm of cooperation with a specialized biomedical engineering company, and the described results are expected to substantially support a better understanding of the biomolecules' time-dependent dynamic evolution. This paper gives an overview of the situation for Swedish female systems engineers at an engineering‐dense company (Saab Group) and societal factors of impact for their situation. We have interviewed five age cohorts of female systems engineers and let them share their personal experiences. Some key findings are that the older age cohorts have paved the way for the younger, but that has in many cases been costly for the individuals. Changes in society have in general contributed to better conditions for female engineers, e.g., parental leave compensation and possibility for childcare at a low cost. A remaining problem is the lower proportion of female technical leaders compared to female systems engineers. Females are often encouraged to take roles as project manager or line manager, and therefore technical leadership roles still are heavily male dominated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses on the use of A3 Architectural Overviews (A3AO) for early validation of stakeholder needs and system concept as part of a tender proposal in an IoT consultancy. Tender proposals are an essential part of communication between most companies working in the engineering field. Often with hightech companies, a technical knowledge gap exists between the different stakeholders reading tender proposals. This knowledge gap increases the risk of miscommunication and wasteful work. A real‐life case from an IoT consultancy tendering an IoT concept for a processing facility forms the basis for the research. Applying an action research approach, the researchers tailored the A3AO framework to fit within the consultancy's work flow and developed an A3AO describing the tendered system concept. The customer received and later accepted the tender proposal including the A3AO containing the stakeholders' problems and needs, a concept solution, and a roadmap detailing further work. In this study, we collected data from observations, semi‐structured interviews, surveys, and a follow‐up questionnaire to the customer. The study found that the A3AO functions as a tool for early validation and that it helped bridge the knowledge gap between the consultancy and customer. The study also raises questions and criticism regarding cost and complexity. The consultancy later decided to implement A3AOs in future proceedings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effect of assessment management and selecting the appropriate contractor is growing interest in research because of the change in preferences of contractors' behaviour and the growth of competitiveness. The assessment of contractors is a continuous process that demands ongoing monitoring to maintain high quality ranks. In this study, the factors behaviour of contractors' assessment for a construction engineering company and a method of topological analysis are examined to a) aid in the interpretation of existing relationships among all factors and b) find influencing factors of contractors' assessment. The method begins with the network construction of factors considering some criteria or standards. We then propose a method of network analysis and describe the results of studies undertaken to apply the correlation network-based approach and discuss the implications of the methodology. As a result of this study, all influencing factors are involved in a category.
