This paper analyzes the consequences of the concentration and professionalization processes in the Argentinian nowdays publishing field, paying attention to the houses which publish non-fiction books, related to the political and national circumstances. Parting from interviews made to the Publisher agents from Siglo XXI and Marea, we pretend to analyze how tensions between the business logic and the cultural logic affect the positions of the publishers in the field, which is structured from the opposition between publishers with different scale and pretensions. In this sense, we will describe the structure of these publishing houses, their modes of production and circulation of books and, finally, the relationship between editor and writers. We want to analyse the complexity of the oppositions between major and independent publishers and between restricted and big scale poles of cultural production.
