Abstract

The honeycomb pattern possesses a distinctive hexagonal structure capable of seamless repetition on a flat surface, leaving no gaps. Moreover, all arm thicknesses and angles are equal to one another. This remarkable configuration is deemed biomimetic, with numerous examples found in nature. Notably, it exhibits remarkably low density and exceptional mechanical strength. MAX phase films have gathered significant attention due to their exceptional capacity to amalgamate the essential properties of both metals and ceramics. Additionally, they possess the unique ability to effectively mend surface cracks that may arise as a result of friction-wear, restoring the material to a certain degree of integrity. In this study, Ti2AlN MAX phase thin films were deposited on M2 steel substrates by a closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering system (CFUBMS). 750 °C heat treatment was applied to obtain the produced films in crystalline form. In addition, plasma etching parameters suitable for the phase structure of the deposited film were determined. With the inductive coupling plasma etching (ICP) process, the honeycomb pattern was given to the Ti2AlN MAX phase films with a continuous and smooth geometry at a depth of 2 μm. Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the structural, mechanical and tribological behaviours of thermally oxidized MoS2 films. MoS2 coatings were deposited on D2 tool steel substrates using the closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering method (CFUBMS). The thermal oxidation process was carried out at four different temperatures. Tribological properties were determined by pin‐on‐disc wear tests in the atmospheric environment. It was determined that thermal oxidation temperatures affected the chemical composition of MoS2 films, but did not cause any change in film thickness. The wear rates of the samples differed depending on the oxidation temperature and the applied load. The lowest wear rate was determined as 1.97 × 10−8 mm3/Nm in the oxidized film at 350°C. In addition, the highest hardness value was obtained as 655 HV in the film oxidized at 400°C, and the lowest coefficient of friction was obtained as 0.01 in the film oxidized at 350°C. Abstract

AA7075 Al alloys are widely used in the aerospace industry. However, the mechanical properties of these alloys are insufficient in space conditions. AA7075 Al alloy is produced by powder metallurgy method due to the good wear properties. Then AA7075 Al alloys have to be adapted to mechanical properties MoS2-TiB2 composite films are deposited. MoS2-TiB2 composite films were grown on powder metal substrate using CFUBMS method in three different MoS2 target currents. Structural properties of composite films were analyzed by SEM, XRD and XPS methods. The mechanical properties of the films are carried out by microhardness and scratch tester. The best grade value of AA7075 powder metal alloy was made with 800MPa pressing pressure and increased from 2.61g/cm3 to 2.72g/cm3 after sintering. The highest hardness was obtained at the lowest MoS2 target voltage of 4.7GPa. The highest critical load value was obtained as 26N at the highest MoS2 target voltage.
