Abstract

The intercalation of inorganic materials to organized organic assemblies provides many opportunities for the formation of new functional materials with superior physicochemical characteristics. A composite material composed of Prussian blue intercalated to photoresponsive organic molecules was developed. Photoisomerization in the solid system was attained by diluting the azobenzene-containing bilayer membrane in a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix.

Abstract

Boron-doped diamond (BDD) was modified with neighbor-paired metals; NiCu and NiMn for application in urea oxidation. The modification was conducted by a series processes, including wet chemical seeding, electrochemical overgrowth of the seeds, annealing, as well as refresh and activation techniques. Characterization was performed by using SEM and XPS showed that the method successfully deposit NiCu and NiMn on the BDD surface. However, pairing nickel with copper gave more synergic effect in lowering overpotential Ni to be Ni(OH)2 as active electrocatalyst than pairing nickel with manganese. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The electronic states of Fe atoms in Co[Fe(CN)5NH3 $$\cdot x $$ H2O were studied by means of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Mössbauer spectra of Co[Fe(CN)5NH3 $$\cdot $$ 6H2O show the coexistence of mixed valences for the Fe atoms and a magnetic relaxation at 4 K. 50. Photoswitchable Magnetic Nanoparticles of Prussian Blue with Amphiphilic Azobenzene

Abstract

A novel type of photocontrollable Prussian blue (PB) magnetic nanoparticle has been designed and prepared by using the reverse micelle technique. These magnetic nanoparticles possess a well-organized nanoscale structure. Reversible photoisomerization of azobenzene chromophores realized photoswitching of the magnetization. The photoisomerization of the composite materials was accompanied by a geometrically confined structural change within the reverse micelles, as reflected by changes in the dipole moment and the electrostatic field. As a result, the magnetization values could be switched reversibly by using alternating UV and visible light illumination.
