It is known that development of malnutrition increases morbidity and mortality. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of commonly used nutritional assessment parameters in predicting prognosis in geriatric patients diagnosed in PCC with malnutrition.Methods: Our study included 1451 patients aged ≥ 65 years, who were diagnosed with malnutrition in PCC between 2016– 2020 and did not yet start receiving nutritional support. Demographic data, comorbidities, The Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002), body mass index (BMI), albumin, prealbumin and C-reactive protein (CRP) values of the patients were recorded. Prognostic course was evaluated by dividing the patients into 3 groups, namely mortal patients during PCC follow-up, patients transferred from PCC to Intensive Care (ICU) and patients discharged to home from PCC.Results: Logistic Regression analysis showed that low albumin levels affected transfer to ICU (P< 0.05). Elevated NRS-2002 and low albumin and prealbumin levels were found to be factors affecting mortality (P< 0.05). Areas under the ROC Curve were calculated to attain patients’ differential diagnosis. The area under the ROC Curve of low albumin in patients transferred to ICU was found to be significant (P< 0.05). In the differential diagnosis of patients with mortal course, the area under the ROC Curve of low albumin and prealbumin and high CRP was found to be significant (P< 0.05).Conclusion: We found that BMI had no prognostic predictive effects in geriatric PCC patients with malnutrition. We concluded that NRS-2002 and high CRP and low albumin and prealbumin can be used to predict mortality. In addition, we found that low albumin indicates a poor prognosis and predicts patients to be transferred to ICU.Keywords: NRS-2002, malnutrition, albumin, prealbumin, CRP, mortality

However, there is limited literature about the types and clinical correlates of sleep problems. This study aims to compare sleep disturbances between children with ASD and healthy children and investigate the relationship between sleep difficulties and clinical symptoms of ASD.Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 112 children in ASD patient group and 112 healthy controls, with an age range of 2–18 years. The Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) was used for sleep problems; Turgay DSM-IV Disruptive Behavior Disorders Rating Scale parent form (T-DSM-IV-S) was used to assess hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattentiveness; Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Autism Behavior Checklist, and Aberrant Behavior Checklist were used to evaluate the severity of autistic symptoms and behavioral problems.Results: Total score, bedtime resistance, and sleep anxiety subscores of CSHQ were significantly higher in children with ASD than the control group. Among ASD children, intellectual capacity was not found to be associated with CSHQ scores. Bedtime resistance and night waking subscores of CSHQ were found to be positively correlated with CARS total score. Inattentiveness subscore of Parent T-DSM-IV-S was significantly higher in children with moderate-to-severe sleep problems.Conclusion: Sleep difficulties in ASD patients may occur independently of intellectual disability. Bedtime resistance and night waking appear to be linked with ASD symptoms. Inattentiveness in ASD children may be associated with moderate-to-severe sleep problems. Abstract Background Cytoplasmic inclusion bodies within hepatocytes may have different etiologies, including the Endoplasmic Reticulum Storage Diseases (ERSDs). ERSD is a pathological condition characterized by abnormal accumulation of proteins destined for secretion in the endoplasmic reticulum of hepatocytes; it may be congenital (primary) or acquired (secondary). Fibrinogen storage disease is a form of ERSD. Case Presentation We present a case of fibrinogen storage disease secondary to estrogen replacement therapy. Its causal relationship to the drug is shown by histological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies of paired liver biopsies obtained during and after the drug therapy. Conclusion The liver biopsies of patients with idiopathic liver enzyme abnormalities should be carefully evaluated for cytoplasmic inclusion bodies and, although rare, fibrinogen deposits.

OBJECTIVE: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication therapy is known to increase the platelet count, but in immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), the effect of H. pylori infection on the response to treatment is not clear. This study aims to determine whether the response to the first-line treatment is affected by the states of H. pylori-positivity and -negativity in ITP patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Adult newly diagnosed or chronic ITP patients who had not received eradication therapy for H. pylori infection were included. Characteristics of the patients, presence and severity of bleeding, initial platelet count, administered treatments, and treatment response rates were inspected. RESULTS: Of 119 total patients, 66 (55.5%) were female, 32 (26.9%) were H. pylori-positive, 87 (73.1%) were H. pylori-negative. H. pylori-positive and H. pylori-negative groups were not significantly different in terms of age (p=0.127), gender (p=0.078), diagnosis status (p=0.094) and the distribution of bleeding symptoms (p=0.712). The most common treatment was standard-dose steroid in both groups (62.5% vs. 68.9%, p=0.524). Rates of complete response, partial response, no response were comparable for the two groups (respectively, 75% vs. 73.6%, and 18.8% vs. 19.5%, and 6.2% vs. 6.9%), and there was no significant difference between the groups (p=0.283). CONCLUSIONS: It can be stated, according to the present study, that in ITP patients in whom treatment is indicated, the response to the first-line treatment without the administration of H. pylori eradication therapy is similar between H. pylori-positive and H. pylori-negative patients. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinicopathological features and survival of CD, which is quite rare and has many unknowns. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study was conducted by retrospectively evaluating patients diagnosed with CD in six different centers in Turkey. RESULTS: The median age of 33 patients included in the study was 49 and 51.5% (n = 17) of these patients were women. 18 (54.5%) patients were in the hyaline vascular subtype and most of the patients were UCD (n = 20, 60.6%). The most common involvement region was head and neck (n = 19, 57.5%). The UCD group was younger than the MCD group (p=0.027). Visceral lymph node involvement was higher in MCD than in UCD (p=0.001). Similarly, it was observed that there was more hepatomegaly (p=0.035) and splenomegaly (p=0.013) in the MCD group. During the median 19.5 months follow-up period, there were no patients who died. CONCLUSIONS: It was observed that UCD and MCD are different clinical entities. Promising survival times can be achieved with surgical and systemic treatments in both subtypes of this extremely rare disease. However, this result should be supported by well-designed prospective comprehensive studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
