This paper presents a new fault tolerant control FTC scheme of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drive. A sensorless position predictive torque control (PTC) based on Sliding Mode-MRAS estimator is used for three-phase four-switch (B4) inverter-fed PMSM, which connects the neutral of the motor to the midpoint of the DC-Link voltage source. Current observer is used to reconfigure the drive when one current sensor is available in the proposed inverter topology. The main contribution of the proposed strategy relies on the fact that no reconfigurations or modifications of the converter topology and controller are required from normal operation to post-fault operation. The widespread use of single phase bidirectional converters in different applications is a real motivation to more and more interest to their monitoring and fault diagnosis. Generally, the conventional control loop of a single phase PWM converter uses both voltage and current sensors. Hence in case of sensor fault, the performances and the availability of the converter can be seriously compromised. This paper proposes a fast and robust sensor fault detection and isolation (FDI) and fault tolerant control (FTC) of a single phase PWM rectifier. The proposed FDI approach is based on residual generation. In order to improve the robustness of the proposed FDI algorithm and avoid false alarms, adaptive thresholds are used. Each residual remains under its threshold and crosses it if and only if the corresponding sensor is in fault state. Thus the faulty sensor can be easily distinguished and the uniqueness of signature of each faulty sensor is guaranteed. The control reconfiguration algorithm maintains the performances of the converter during post fault operating mode. In order to increase the reliability and availability of wind turbines, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis are considered crucial means to achieve these goals. In this context, direct drives wind turbines based on permanent-magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) with full-scale power converters are an emerging and promising technology. However, several statistical studies point out that power converters are a significant contributor to the overall failure rate of modern wind turbines. Accordingly, this paper presents a new algorithm for multiple open-circuit faults diagnosis in full-scale back-to-back converters, applied in PMSG drives used for wind turbine systems. The proposed method is based on a Luenberger observer and on an adaptive threshold, which can guarantee a reliable diagnosis independently of the drive operating conditions. Several simulation and experimental results using a PMSG drive with a full-scale converter are presented, showing the diagnostic algorithm effectiveness and robustness against false alarms for both generator- and grid-side converters.
