• Intrinsic Elinvar behaviour firstly observed in Ti-22Nb-6Zr SMA is not unique. • Such intrinsic Elinvar behaviour is obtained in β -stable Ti-50Nb alloy. • Ti-50.0Ni and Ti-15Nb-18Zr SMAs do not exhibit intrinsic Elinvar behaviour. • β -stable Ti-based alloys are promising for search of such intrinsic Elinvar behavior. This study is devoted to the search for Elinvar behaviour through a recently discovered mechanism in Ti-22Nb-6Zr alloy in other titanium alloys. The study concludes that the stable β Ti-50Nb exhibits the intrinsic Elastic behaviour in two narrow temperature ranges RT ↔ 180 °C and 370 ↔ 550 °C, separated by a non-Elinvar temperature range. While in the B 2-ordered Ti-50.0Ni and β Ti-15Nb-18Zr shape memory alloys such intrinsic Elinvar behaviour was not observed. The search for alloys with intrinsic Elinvar behaviour is of scientific interest because it opens up a new area for the search for elastic behaviour and is also of practical interest since these alloys can be used to produce high-temperature elastic components.
