Background: Contact dermatitis is a skin condition resulting from exposure to external substances that provoke allergic or irritant reactions. Individuals aged 60 and older are particularly susceptible to this condition due to the physiological changes in their skin accompanying aging. Purpose: To analyze the role of education regarding contact dermatitis in the elderly. Methods: The sampling technique used in this study is a total sampling technique using the pre-experimental one-group method, and presented the results in an analytical descriptive format. Result: The study demonstrated a significant impact of the educational intervention on contact dermatitis regarding the knowledge levels of the research subjects. Analysis using the Wilcoxon test revealed a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). This finding indicates that the educational intervention resulted in a notable improvement in knowledge from before to after it. Conclusion: There is a significant impact of the educational intervention on the knowledge levels of the elderly, as observed before and after the intervention.

Cardiovascular outreach programs and risk factors profiling have been regarded as key strategy in preventing and controlling cardiovascular diseases as the leading global causes of death worldwide, especially when being conducted by a professional. This pilot study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a cardiovascular outreach program in Plaosan District, Magetan Regency, to improve knowledge and influence changes in the community’s behavior related to cardiovascular risk factors. This study was conducted by providing educational interventions and profiling cardiovascular risk factors on 90 adults using consecutive sampling method. Health education was performed by experts and evaluated by pre-post tests before and after the material delivery. Statistical analysis was used to assess the relationship of risk factors that can contribute to cardiovascular disease. This study showed a significant increase in the participants' knowledge score after the intervention (p = 0.007). There were several risk factors for cardiovascular disease in the participants, with the highest risk prevalence being diabetes mellitus (33.33%). Six participants (6.67%) had abnormal electrocardiography results. In conclusion, our study showed a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in rural communities and the importance of cardiovascular outreach programs by experts to improve the understanding of cardiovascular disease in a specific community.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a pruritic skin condition with erythema, lichenified patches, and excoriations from scratching the skin and often affect the patient's quality of life. Patient history and clinical manifestations are key elements in various diagnostic criteria. Therefore, it is important to know clinical profile of AD patients. Purpose: To describe profile of patients with AD at Dermatovenereology Outpatient Clinic Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya in 2019-2021. Methods: This study is a retrospective descriptive study using secondary data from the patients' medical records at Dermatovenereology Outpatient Clinic Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya in 2019-2021. Result: New AD patients in total were 89 patients, dominated by female (53.9%) in age group 2-12 years (37.1%). The most common complaint was itching (83.1%) and trigger factor was unknown (43.8%). Most patients had previous history of atopy (52.8%) and did not know about their family history of atopy (37%). The most common lesion efflorescence was erythematous macule (59.6%) and located on inferior extremity (43.8%). The most frequent systemic therapy was Cetirizine (71.9%) and topical therapy was hypoallergenic emollient (42.7%). Conclusion: Most of AD patients are female in the 2-12 year age group, come with the complaint of itching and do not know the trigger factor, they mostly had previous history of atopy, but they mostly do not know about their family history of atopy, the most common lesion efflorescence are erythematous macules and the location on inferior extremity with the most given therapy are Cetirizine and hypoallergenic emollient.

Aluminum (Al) constitutes approximately 8% of the Earth's surface. Al is extensively used in various industrial applications, including medicines, food additives, cosmetics and farming practices. However, Al poses a risk to human health when it enters the body, potentially leading to various pathological conditions. Nigella sativa, known for its active compound thymoquinone (TQ), has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. TQ is recognized for its potential in the prevention and treatment of numerous diseases. This study aimed to explore the effect of N. sativa extract (NSE) in preventing the elevation of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the blood serum of rats subjected to aluminum-induced oxidative stress. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were divided into four groups. Groups K1 and K2 were fed a standard diet, while groups K3 and K4 received NSE at doses 200 mg/kg/day and 400 mg/kg/day, respectively, administrated through oral gavage. After two weeks of NSE pretreatment, groups K2, K3, and K4 were exposed to AlCl3 (34 mg/kg, oral gavage) for an additional three weeks. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) in body weight or hemoglobin levels among the groups. Interestingly, a significant reduction in MDA level (P < 0.05) was observed among groups. Notably, MDA levels were lower in the NSE-treated and control groups compared to the AlCl3-exposed group. Background: Fetuin-A is a hepatokine that increases in obesity, and a high-fat diet (HFD) contributes to this condition. Obesity is characterized by increased body mass index (BMI) and is correlated to insulin resistance. This study aims to analyze the difference between High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) on fetuin-A, insulin, fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels, and BMI in HFD-fed rats. Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: CD (standard diet), HFD (HFD only), HFD-IT (HFD and HIIT), and HFD-CT (HFD and MICT). HFD consisted of a standard diet with an additional 2 mL/200-gram body weight of lard oil daily. In the HFD-IT group, swimming was performed with a 9% body weight load with short duration and intermittent rest periods, while the HFD-CT group was given a 6% body weight load and continuous swimming. Swimming was conducted five days a week for four weeks. Fetuin-A and insulin levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, and FBG levels were measured using a glucometer. Results: Fetuin-A levels were significantly lower in the HFD-IT and HFD-CT groups compared to the HFD group (p0.05). Conclusion: HIIT and MICT have similar effectiveness in reducing fetuin-A levels. Background: Menstrual migraine is a primary headache that often attacks women of reproductive age. This type of migraine has high severity and is resistant to treatment. Therefore, an effective treatment is needed to treat this menstrual migraine. Sumatriptan has been shown to have a better effect as an acute treatment for menstrual migraine patients. Purpose: This study aims to determine the prevalence and effectiveness of sumatriptan as a therapy for menstrual migraine. Methods: This research is based on a literature review following predetermined inclusion criteria. First, a literature search was carried out adhering to the PRISMA flow in 4 databases: Pubmed, Science Direct, ProQuest, and ClinicalTrial.co. Results: Based on keywords, 267 studies were found in the literature search. However, only three studies covering 845 participants met the predetermined inclusion criteria. The average age of menstrual migraine patients in the three studies was 37 years. These three studies of sumatriptan revealed a significant effect in providing a pain-free response in menstrual migraine patients. These three studies also showed that sumatriptan 100 mg has a higher level of effectiveness in providing a pain-free response in menstrual migraine sufferers and was preferably given during mild attacks. Conclusion: These three studies indicate that typically, women who suffer from menstrual migraines are of reproductive age. Additionally, this study shows that using sumatriptan as an acute therapy significantly helps provide a pain-free response in menstrual migraine patients.

Background: Melasma is a skin pigmentation disorder characterized by brownish hyperpigmented lesions with symmetrical distribution and irregular borders. It becomes a cosmetic problem that causes a negative impact on quality of life and a lack of confidence in patients. The etiology of melasma is not completely understood, but several factors that trigger melasma can be explained. Yet, the profile and triggering factors associated with the prevalence of melasma patients in Surabaya are still unexplored. Purpose: To determine the profile and triggering factors of melasma patients in the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Unit of Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya from January to December 2019. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study using data from medical records with a total sampling technique. Result: In this study, most of the melasma patients were female (97.5%), dominated by the age group 46-55 years (49.4%), and worked as housewives (40.74%). The triggering factors found in patients were sun exposure (96.3%), cosmetics (67.9%), hormonal (49.4%), and family history (22.2%). The physical examinations of melasma lesions showed that they were mostly located in the malar area (72.8%), light brown colored (74.7%), and 2.0 – 4.0 cm in size (54.3%). Wood’s lamp examination showed that most of the lesions had firm and indistinct borders (55.6%). Conclusion: The triggering factors of melasma are multifactorial, but we suspect that sun exposure plays an important role in affecting melasma.

Previous studies have investigated the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on cardiorespiratory fitness and body composition in overweight populations. However, short-term effect of HIIT and free fatty acids (FFA) serum in women sedentary lifestyle is not clearly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 2-week high intensity interval training on body fat percentage, free fatty acids, and VO2max in overweight sedentary adult women. This study determined community knowledge, attitudes, and practices after COVID-19 socialization in Rambipuji and Suci Village, Jember District, East Java, Indonesia. This study used the analytic observational design study. As many as 40 people were given socialization about COVID-19 by gathering and online. The questionnaires were completed in two parts included before-socialization and after-socialization. The questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively by calculating frequency, percentage, and inferential statistics by t-test, Spearman correlation, and chi-square test. The data analysis used IBM SPSS version 23 software. The mean and standard deviation of percentage of knowledge pre-test, knowledge post-test, high attitude, moderate attitude, low attitude, very high practice, high practice, sufficient practice, and low practice were 58.33 ± 30.97, 77.70 ± 22.52, 62.5±21.7, 31±22.2, 6.5±17.1, 65±13.8, 32.3±13.8, 1.25±2.4, 1.25±1.8, respectively. Knowledge pre-test and post-test correlated 0.819 (p=0.001) and a t-test with p=0.003. Attitudes and practices correlated with p=0.001. Socialization of COVID-19 was useful to improve the community knowledge, attitudes, and practices in Rambipuji and Suci Village, Jember District, East Java, Indonesia that could prevent the transmission and inhibit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Furthermore, continuous encouragement of COVID-19 socialization in wide areas was recommended.

Objectives: Previous observational studies have suggested that increased cardiac markers are commonly found in COVID-19. This study aimed to determine the relationship between several cardiac markers and the severity/mortality of COVID-19 patients. Methods: Several cardiac markers were analysed in this meta-analysis. RevMan 5.4 was used to provide pooled estimates for standardised mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Twenty-nine clinical studies were included in this meta-analysis. Significantly higher CK-MB (0.64, 95% CI = 0.19–1.09), PCT (0.47, 95% CI = 0.26−0.68), NT-proBNP (1.90, 95% CI = 1.63–2.17), BNP (1.86, 95% CI = 1.63−2.09), and d-dimer (1.30, 95% CI = 0.91−1.69) were found in severe compared with non-severe COVID-19. Significantly higher CK-MB (3.84, 95% CI = 0.62−7.05), PCT (1.49, 95% CI = 0.86−2.13), NT-proBNP (4.66, 95% CI = 2.42−6.91), BNP (1.96, 95% CI = 0.78−3.14), troponin (1.64 (95% CI = 0.83−2.45), and d-dimer (2.72, 95% CI = 2.14−3.29) were found in those who died from compared with survivors of COVID-19. Conclusions: High CK-MB, PCT, NT-proBNP, BNP, and d-dimer could be predictive markers for severity of COVID-19, while high CK-MB, PCT, NT-proBNP, BNP, troponin, and d-dimer could be predictive markers for survival of COVID-19 patients.

Aim: Gene therapy is expected to improve patients' quality of life. Medical students need to be aware about this technology as its application is becoming wider. Materials & methods: A web-based survey was conducted to measure the acceptance of Indonesian medical students regarding gene therapy. Results: Data from 621 valid responses showed that Indonesian medical students have little knowledge of this technology, with 34.4% of them ever heard of gene therapy. However, most of them support the approved gene therapy for health-related matters, but not on the non-health related matters. Their acceptance was determined by the sex, domicile and studentship status. Conclusion: Increasing medical students' knowledge of gene therapy is important to minimize the future conflict of gene therapy application.

World Health Organization (2020) telah merekomendasikan setidaknya 150-300 menit aktifitas fisik intensitas sedang 40-60% HRM (Heart Rate Maximal) atau 75-150 menit aktivitas fisik intensitas tinggi/virgorous 60-85% HRM perminggu untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan kebugaran orang dewasa. Namun, hambatan yang sering dikutip untuk terlibat dalam aktifitas fisik adalah “kurangnya waktu”, motivasi rendah, dan ketidakpatuhan terhadap pedoman yang sudah diberikan. HIIT membutuhkan lebih sedikit waktu yang dihabiskan untuk berolahraga, sekaligus memberikan manfaat kesehatan yang serupa atau bahkan lebih besar dibandingkan dengan rekomendasi aktivitas fisik yang telah ditetapkan WHO. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar efek HIIT terhadap VO2max. Metode yang digunakan adalah literature review, mencari artikel dari DataBased Elektronik berupa PubMed, ScienceDirect dan ProQuest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa HIIT dapat meningkatkan VO2max dengan signifikan dan efisien.

Pandemi Covid-19 yang melanda dunia sejak akhir tahun 2019 telah menimbulkan keresahan dan kerugian yang tinggi bagi masyarakat dunia termasuk Indonesia. Vaksin dan obat yang sampai saat ini belum tersedia secara luas membuat masyarakat harus menjaga daya tahan tubuh atau imunitas dengan baik. Salah satu cara menjaga imunitas adalah dengan mengkonsumsi obat tradisional secara tepat. Obat tradisional menjadi alternatif yang baik untuk menjaga imunitas karena khasiatnya telah terbukti secara turun-temurun, dan mempunyai efek samping minimal apabila digunakan secara tepat. Maka dari itu, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberi pengetahuan kepada mayarakat dalam meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh dengan mengkonsumsi jamu secara tepat. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dengan media poster dan modul yang diberikan kepada kelompok masyarakat yang masih berkegiatan di luar rumah selama masa normal baru dan memiliki kesempatan berinteraksi dengan orang lain seperti tukang parkir, pedagang keliling dan pedagang warung nasi di wilayah Surabaya Timur. Setelah mendapat penyuluhan dengan menggunakan media tersebut, sebanyak 30 responden kegiatan ini mendapat peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai jenis obat tradisional, cara pembuatan dan cara mengkonsumsinya untuk meningkatkan imunitas. Kesimpulan kegiatan ini, masyarakat mendapat pengetahuan dan dapat mengaplikasikan pengetahuan mengenai obat tradisional untuk menjaga imunitas untuk diri sendiri dan keluarga. Metode pemberian materi melalui poster dan brosur dapat diterima dengan baik dan memotivasi untuk menjaga imunitas dengan obat tradisional di era normal baru

This study aims to analyze the administration of mangosteen peel ethanol extract at different doses can reduce levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) serum in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strains exposed to electric cigarette smoke. Electric cigarette induces mitochondrial ROS production and triggers oxidative stress. Antioxidants are needed by the body if there are many free radicals, for example mangosteen peel. This laboratory experimental study uses a randomized post test only control group design. Thirty male white rats were divided into 5 groups randomly (KK, KR, P1, P2, P3). KK given 0.5% Na-CMC, KR given smoke and 0.5% Na-CMC, P1, P2, P3 given smoke and mangosteen peel ethanol extract 100, 200, 300 mg / kg weight. Data were tested for normality and homogeneity tests. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic hyperglycemic that can cause complications in several organs. It could lead glycosylated hemoglobin or HbA1c formation which has ability undergo further changes into Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) and stimulate activation of transcription factors such as nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB). Some studies showed that anthocyanin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and it has been found Rosa damascene contain high level of anthocyanin. Total anthocyanin content was 0.459 ± 0.003 mg/L. The aim of this study was to investigate inhibitory effect of R. damascena extract on HbA1c levels and NF-κB activation in diabetic rats. Male wistar rats (n=24) were divided into 6 groups as normal control (KN), streptozotocin-induced diabetic control (KP), diabetic treated with R. damascene (P1, P2, P3; 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg/d respectively) and diabetic treated with metformin (KM; 500 mg/kg/d). This was carried out for 28 days. The inhibition mode of R. damascene extract was examined by measuring HbA1c levels and expression of NFκB by immunohistochemistry. The results showed p values ​​> 0.05 for HbA1c and p < 0.05 for NFκB. From immunohistochemical staining, it seen the expression of NFκB was low in treated group (P1, P2, P3 and KM) compared with KP. Thus, oral administration of R. damascene extract for 28 days could not reduce HbA1c levels, but can supress NFκB expression.

Introduction: Primary students are still in the developing phase, so they still need enough nutrition. The food source they consume is not only originated from home but also from school snacks. However, it can be said that school snacks can be easily contaminated by E.coli and Hazardous and Toxic Substances (HTS) or toxicant. School plays a major role to regulate the canteen. Therefore, this study aims to know whether there is a relation between the monitoring and controlling of school snacks which E.coli and toxicant free food and the relation of the contaminated foods with the school zone and school status. Methods: This research was conducted with analytics study from secondary datum from the result of the snacks investigation by the Public Health Office of Surabaya on primary school in 2017. Results: The results of this study stated that there is no relationship between E.coli contamination in snacks and cooking utensils and toxicant contamination in snacks with the school region and status in Surabaya. Conclusion: It is needed to enhance the supervision of the school especially for primary school to increase healthy food in school canteen whether it is public school or private school.

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five (toddlers) which can hinder the child's physical and mental development. Data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) shows that the number of stunted toddlers in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province is still quite high, namely 24.6%. Stunting cannot be cured but can be prevented. One of the prevention efforts is to increase the knowledge of mothers or prospective mothers regarding stunting and preventing it by providing food with high nutrition. This Community Service Activity (PKM) was carried out with the aim of educating mothers and wives of home-based beef cattle farmers in Lando Village, East Lombok, NTB about preventing stunting by providing highly nutritious supplementary food (PMT) and stunting detection. The methods used were socialization and demonstration of making toddler food. The results of this PKM activity were that there was a significant increase in participants' knowledge regarding the material being socialized (p0.0001). The conclusion that can be drawn is that There had been an increase in knowledge among PKM participants regarding stunting and preventing stunting through providing food with high protein content.

Highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza viruses have caused outbreaks among poultry worldwide, resulting in sporadic infections in humans with approximately 60% mortality. However, efficient transmission of H5N1 viruses among humans has yet to occur, suggesting that further adaptation of H5N1 viruses to humans is required for their efficient transmission among humans. The viral determinants for efficient replication in humans are currently poorly understood. Here, we report that the polymerase PB2 protein of an H5N1 influenza virus isolated from a human in Vietnam (A/Vietnam/UT36285/2010, virus 36285) increased the growth ability of an avian H5N1 virus (A/wild bird/Anhui/82/2005, virus Wb/AH82) in human lung epithelial A549 cells (however, the reassortant virus did not replicate more efficiently than human 36285 virus). Furthermore, we demonstrate that the amino acid residues at positions 249, 309, and 339 of the PB2 protein from this human isolate were responsible for its efficient replication in A549 cells. PB2 residues 249G and 339M, which are found in the human H5N1 virus, are rare in H5N1 viruses from both human and avian sources. Interestingly, PB2-249G is found in over 30% of human seasonal H3N2 viruses, which suggests that H5N1 viruses may replicate well in human cells when they acquire this mutation.
