Background Anxiety sensitivity (AS) is a relatively stable dispositional variable that may increase the risk for anxiety-related symptoms, particularly panic attack, among individuals of all age groups. Changes in AS during adolescence in healthy individuals, however, has not been previously investigated. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the relationship of AS with puberty level, pulse rate, and blood pressure in healthy adolescents. Methods The sample consisted of 133 healthy adolescents (70 boys, 63 girls) aged 10–17 years. Puberty stage (i.e. Tanner stage), pulse rate, and blood pressure of each participant were determined. The Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Inventory was used to identify AS. The correlations between AS and the clinical variables were assessed. Results AS was negatively correlated with pubertal stage when age and gender were controlled. Also, AS was correlated with diastolic blood pressure when age, gender, and pubertal stage were controlled (P < 0.05). Neither systolic blood pressure nor heart rate were correlated with AS. Conclusion AS, which is reported to be a trait-like variable, may change during adolescence, due to the effect of pubertal growth and blood pressure interacting with AS during adolescence.

Information about the relationship between psoriasis and psychiatric morbidity and quality of life in children and adolescents is limited. We aimed to examine the symptoms of depression and anxiety and health-related quality of life levels in children and adolescents with psoriasis. Forty-eight outpatients with psoriasis aged 8 to 18 years are included in this study. Child Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventories for Children (STAI-C) and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Parent and Child Versions (PedQL-P and C) were applied to both patient and control groups. Psoriasis symptom severity was measured by the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). Both study and control groups were divided into two age groups, child (8-12 yrs) and adolescent (13-18 yrs), to exclude the effect of puberty on psychological condition. The mean CDI score was higher, and PedQL-C psychosocial and total scores were lower in the children compared with controls. Duration of psoriasis had an increasing effect on physical-health and total scores of PedQL-C in the child group and all PedQL-C scores in the entire sample. Psoriasis severity showed a negative correlation with psychosocial and total scores of PedQL-P in the adolescent group and PedQL-P physical-health scores in the entire sample. Psoriasis is related to depression and impaired quality of life in children. The depressive symptoms in children with psoriasis should not be overlooked and psychiatric assessment of these children should be provided.

Anxiety sensitivity (AS) refers to the fear of anxiety-related sensations. The aim of the present study is to investigate the validity and reliability of Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (CASI) and adapting it into Turkish.The study group consisted of 328 healthy individuals whose age between 8-15 years old. All subjects included in the study filled out the Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (CASI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventories for Children (STAI-C).The CASI was found to be significantly related to both trait and state anxiety scores (r=0.42 and r=0.32, respectively). It had a high internal consistency (Cronbach a= 0.74) and good test-retest reliability (r= 0.77, p0.001). Explorotary factor analyses showed that the CASI is comprised of 6 lower-order factors. However, CASI subfactors was established according to literature as a three factor model: physical, cognitive and social.According to the present study, the CASI Turkish version was shown to be a valid and a reliable scale.
