We prove the equivalence between the integral central limit theorem and the local central limit theorem for two-body potentials with long-range interactions on the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for $d\ge 1$. The spin space can be an arbitrary, possibly unbounded subset of the real axis with a suitable a-priori measure. For general unbounded spins, our method works at high-enough temperature, but for bounded spins our results hold for every temperature. Our proof relies on the control of the integrated characteristic function, which is achieved by dividing the integration into three different regions, following a standard approach proposed forty years ago by Campanino, Del Grosso and Tirozzi. The bounds required in the different regions are obtained through cluster-expansion techniques. For bounded spins, the arbitrariness of the temperature is achieved through a decimation ("dilution") technique, also introduced in the later reference.

While the nitrile group is by far the most prevalent one among interstellar molecules, the existence of interstellar dinitriles (molecules containing two -CN groups) has recently been proven. Here we report the discovery of two new dinitriles in the cold dense cloud TMC-1. These newly identified species are malononitrile, CH2(CN)2, and maleonitrile, the Z isomer of NC-CH=CH-CN, which can be seen as the result of substituting two H atoms with two -CN groups in methane and ethylene, respectively. These two molecules were detected using data from the ongoing QUIJOTE line survey of TMC-1 that is being carried out with the Yebes 40m telescope. We derive column densities of 1.8e11 cm-2 and 5.1e10 cm-2 for malononitrile and maleonitrile, respectively. This means that they are eight and three times less abundant than HCC-CH2-CN and (E)-HCC-CH=CH-CN, respectively, which are analog molecules detected in TMC-1 in which one -CN group is converted into a -CCH group. This is in line with previous findings in which -CCH derivatives are more abundant than the -CN counterparts in TMC-1. We examined the potential chemical pathways to these two dinitriles, and we find that while maleonitrile can be efficiently formed through the reaction of CN with CH2CHCN, the formation of malononitrile is not clear because the neutral-neutral reactions that could potentially form it are not feasible under the physical conditions of TMC-1., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A Letters

Inter-channel Coulomb interaction mixes charge excitations in copropagating quantum Hall edge channels, generating coupled excitation eigenmodes propagating at different speeds. This mode transformation causes an electron state to split into fragments, corresponding to the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid model of a chiral one-dimensional electronic system. This paper reports the coherent evolution of an electron state under the fractionalization process in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer employing copropagating spin-up and spin-down channels as the interference paths. We observe the interference visibility oscillations as a function of the voltage bias applied between the interference paths, which are attributed to the second-order interference between the fractionalized spin excitations with different phase evolutions. This observation contrasts with the single-particle picture that predicts only the first-order interference, reflecting the phase evolution of a spin-up and spin-down superposition state during the one-way transport. The second-order interference manifests the coherent splitting of the superposition state to the mutually independent fast and slow excitations. Our observation offers the fractionalization process as a novel way to encode an electron spin state to spatially separated fragments.

Solving continuous variable optimization problems by factorization machine quantum annealing (FMQA) demonstrates the potential of Ising machines to be extended as a solver for integer and real optimization problems. However, the details of the Hamiltonian function surface obtained by factorization machine (FM) have been overlooked. This study shows that in the widely common case where real numbers are represented by a combination of binary variables, the function surface of the Hamiltonian obtained by FM can be very noisy. This noise interferes with the inherent capabilities of quantum annealing and is likely to be a substantial cause of problems previously considered unsolvable due to the limitations of FMQA performance. The origin of the noise is identified and a simple, general method is proposed to prevent its occurrence. We report the first identification in space of HC$_3$N$^+$, the simplest member of the family of cyanopolyyne cations. Three rotational transitions with half-integer quantum numbers from $J$=7/2 to 11/2 have been observed with the Yebes 40m radio telescope and assigned to HC$_3$N$^+$, which has an inverted $^2\Pi$ ground electronic state. The three rotational transitions exhibit several hyperfine components due to the magnetic and nuclear quadrupole coupling effects of the H and N nuclei. We confidently assign the characteristic rotational spectrum pattern to HC$_3$N$^+$ based on the good agreement between the astronomical and theoretical spectroscopic parameters. We derived a column density of (6.0$\pm$0.6)$\times$10$^{10}$ cm$^{-2}$ and a rotational temperature of 4.5$\pm$1\,K. The abundance ratio between HC$_3$N and HC$_3$N$^+$ is 3200$\pm$320. As found for the larger members of the family of cyanopolyyne cations (HC$_5$N$^+$ and HC$_7$N$^+$), HC$_3$N$^+$ is mainly formed through the reactions of H$_2$ and the cation C$_3$N$^+$ and by the reactions of H$^+$ with HC$_3$N. Quantum machine learning (QML) requires significant quantum resources to achieve quantum advantage. Research should prioritize both the efficient design of quantum architectures and the development of learning strategies to optimize resource usage. We propose a framework called quantum curriculum learning (Q-CurL) for quantum data, where the curriculum introduces simpler tasks or data to the learning model before progressing to more challenging ones. We define the curriculum criteria based on the data density ratio between tasks to determine the curriculum order. We also implement a dynamic learning schedule to emphasize the significance of quantum data in optimizing the loss function. Empirical evidence shows that Q-CurL significantly enhances the training convergence and the generalization for unitary learning tasks and improves the robustness of quantum phase recognition tasks. Quantum neural networks (QNNs) require an efficient training algorithm to achieve practical quantum advantages. A promising approach is the use of gradient-based optimization algorithms, where gradients are estimated through quantum measurements. However, it is generally difficult to efficiently measure gradients in QNNs because the quantum state collapses upon measurement. In this work, we prove a general trade-off between gradient measurement efficiency and expressivity in a wide class of deep QNNs, elucidating the theoretical limits and possibilities of efficient gradient estimation. This trade-off implies that a more expressive QNN requires a higher measurement cost in gradient estimation, whereas we can increase gradient measurement efficiency by reducing the QNN expressivity to suit a given task. We further propose a general QNN ansatz called the stabilizer-logical product ansatz (SLPA), which can reach the upper limit of the trade-off inequality by leveraging the symmetric structure of the quantum circuit. In learning an unknown symmetric function, the SLPA drastically reduces the quantum resources required for training while maintaining accuracy and trainability compared to a well-designed symmetric circuit based on the parameter-shift method. We report on an observation of the difference between northern and southern skies of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray energy spectrum with a significance of ${\sim}8\sigma$. We use measurements from the two largest experiments$\unicode{x2014}$the Telescope Array observing the northern hemisphere and the Pierre Auger Observatory viewing the southern hemisphere. Since the comparison of two measurements from different observatories introduces the issue of possible systematic differences between detectors and analyses, we validate the methodology of the comparison by examining the region of the sky where the apertures of the two observatories overlap. Although the spectra differ in this region, we find that there is only a $1.8\sigma$ difference between the spectrum measurements when anisotropic regions are removed and a fiducial cut in the aperture is applied., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

We present the task description of the Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events (DCASE) 2024 Challenge Task 2: First-shot unsupervised anomalous sound detection (ASD) for machine condition monitoring. Continuing from last year's DCASE 2023 Challenge Task 2, we organize the task as a first-shot problem under domain generalization required settings. The main goal of the first-shot problem is to enable rapid deployment of ASD systems for new kinds of machines without the need for machine-specific hyperparameter tunings. This problem setting was realized by (1) giving only one section for each machine type and (2) having completely different machine types for the development and evaluation datasets. For the DCASE 2024 Challenge Task 2, data of completely new machine types were newly collected and provided as the evaluation dataset. In addition, attribute information such as the machine operation conditions were concealed for several machine types to mimic situations where such information are unavailable. We present the discovery with the QUIJOTE line survey of the cations HC5N+ and HC7N+ in the direction of TMC-1. Seven lines with half-integer quantum numbers from J=25/2-23/2 to 37/2-35/2 have been assigned to HC5N+ and eight lines from J=55/2-53/2 to 71/2-69/2 to HC7N+. Both species have inverted 2Pi ground electronic states with very good estimates for their B0 and AS0 constants based on optical observations. The lines with the lowest J of HC5N+ exhibit multiple components due to the hyperfine structure introduced by the H and N nuclei. However, these different components collapse for the higher J. No hyperfine structure is found for any of the lines of HC7N+. The derived effective rotational and distortion constants for HC5N+ are Beff = 1336.662+/- 0.001 MHz and Deff = 27.4+/-2.6 Hz, while for HC7N+ they are Beff = 567.85036+/-0.00037 MHz and Deff = 4.01+/-0.19 Hz. From the observed intensities, we derived Trot = 5.5+/-0.5K and N = (9.9+/-1.0)x 1010 cm-2 for HC5N+, while we obtained Trot = 8.5+/-0.5K and N = (2.3+/-0.2)x1010 cm-2 for HC7N+. The HC5N/HC5N+, C5N/HC5N+, C5N-/HC5N+, HC7N/HC7N+, HC5N+/HC7N+, and C7N-/HC7N+ abundance ratios are 670+/-80, 4.8+/-0.8, 1.2+/-0.2, 1000+/-150, 4.2+/-0.5, and 2.2+/-0.2, respectively. We have run chemical modelling calculations to investigate the formation and destruction of these new cations. We find that these species are mainly formed through the reactions of H2 and the cations C5N+ and C7N+, and by the reactions of H+ with HC5N and HC7N, while they are mostly destroyed through a reaction with H2 and a dissociative recombination with electrons. Based on the underestimation of the abundances of HC5N+ and HC7N+ by the chemical model by a factor around 20, we suggest that the rate coefficients currently assumed for the reactions of these cations with H2 could be too high by the same factor, something that will be worth investigating., Comment: Accepted as a Letter in Astronomy & Astrophysics on May 31st 2024

In magnetic fields, thermal gradient-induced effects such as the Nernst and thermal Hall effects are significantly influenced by phonon drag, which works in conjunction with the Lorentz force on electrons. We introduce a method to calculate Nernst and thermal Hall conductivities influenced by phonon drag using linear response theory to treat the magnetic field as a first-order perturbation. Our formula is general enough to apply to any system as long as the Green's functions of electrons and phonons are given. We apply the obtained general theory to the recent experiments of dilute metal SrTiO$_{3-\delta}$, known for strong Nernst and thermal Hall effects due to phonon drag. Segmenting dance video into short movements is a popular way to easily understand dance choreography. However, it is currently done manually and requires a significant amount of effort by experts. That is, even if many dance videos are available on social media (e.g., TikTok and YouTube), it remains difficult for people, especially novices, to casually watch short video segments to practice dance choreography. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically segment a dance video into each movement. Given a dance video as input, we first extract visual and audio features: the former is computed from the keypoints of the dancer in the video, and the latter is computed from the Mel spectrogram of the music in the video. Next, these features are passed to a Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN), and segmentation points are estimated by picking peaks of the network output. To build our training dataset, we annotate segmentation points to dance videos in the AIST Dance Video Database, which is a shared database containing original street dance videos with copyright-cleared dance music. The evaluation study shows that the proposed method (i.e., combining the visual and audio features) can estimate segmentation points with high accuracy. Achieving aesthetically pleasing photography necessitates attention to multiple factors, including composition and capture conditions, which pose challenges to novices. Prior research has explored the enhancement of photo aesthetics post-capture through 2D manipulation techniques; however, these approaches offer limited search space for aesthetics. We introduce a pioneering method that employs 3D operations to simulate the conditions at the moment of capture retrospectively. Our approach extrapolates the input image and then reconstructs the 3D scene from the extrapolated image, followed by an optimization to identify camera parameters and image aspect ratios that yield the best 3D view with enhanced aesthetics. Comparative qualitative and quantitative assessments reveal that our method surpasses traditional 2D editing techniques with superior aesthetics., Comment: 10 pages

Low-loss deposited dielectrics are beneficial for the advancement of superconducting integrated circuits for astronomy. In the microwave band ($\mathrm{\sim}$1$\unicode{x2013}$10 GHz) the cryogenic and low-power dielectric loss is dominated by two-level systems. However, the origin of the loss in the millimeter-submillimeter band ($\mathrm{\sim}$0.1$\unicode{x2013}$1 THz) is not understood. We measured the loss of hydrogenated amorphous SiC (a-SiC:H) films in the 0.27$\unicode{x2013}$100 THz range using superconducting microstrip resonators and Fourier-transform spectroscopy. The agreement between the loss data and a Maxwell-Helmholtz-Drude dispersion model suggests that vibrational modes above 10 THz dominate the loss in the a-SiC:H above 200 GHz.

As robotic navigation techniques in perception and planning advance, mobile robots increasingly venture into off-road environments involving complex traversability. However, selecting suitable planning methods remains a challenge due to their algorithmic diversity, as each offers unique benefits. To aid in algorithm design, we introduce BenchNav, an open-source PyTorch-based simulation platform for benchmarking off-road navigation with uncertain traversability. Built upon Gymnasium, BenchNav provides three key features: 1) a data generation pipeline for preparing synthetic natural environments, 2) built-in machine learning models for traversability prediction, and 3) consistent execution of path and motion planning across different algorithms. This review article presents historical developments and recent advances in our understanding on the three-body forces and Efimov physics, from an interdisciplinary viewpoint encompassing nuclear physics and cold atoms. Theoretical attempts to elucidate the three-body force with the chiral effective field theory are explained, followed by an overview of experiments aimed at observing signatures of the nuclear three-body force. Some recent experimental and theoretical works in the field of cold atoms devoted to measuring and engineering three-body forces among atoms are also presented. Several long-period binaries with a carbon-rich Wolf-Rayet star and an O star produce dust in their wind collisions. In eccentric binaries, this is seen most strongly near periastron passage. The exact conditions leading to dust creation require orbital properties to be determined, which is difficult owing to their long periods. Recently, the binary system WR 125 (WC7+O9III) began a dust creation episode seen through an infrared outburst first detected by NEOWISE-R, which was the first outburst detected since 1991. We present new near- and mid-infrared photometry, which we use to show consistency between the two outbursts and derive an orbital period of 28.12$^{+0.10}_{-0.05}$ yr. We use a long time-series of optical spectra to place the first constraints on its orbital elements, on the assumption that this system will produce dust near periastron. The orbit has a mild eccentricity of 0.29$\pm$0.12 and is only derived for the Wolf-Rayet component, as the O star's radial velocities have noise that is likely larger than the expected semi-amplitude of the orbit. We also present SOFIA/FORCAST grism spectroscopy to examine the infrared spectral energy distribution (SED) of the dust during this outburst, comparing its properties to other WCd binaries, deriving a dust temperature of 580 K in 2021. We consider polynomial long-range Ising models in one dimension, with ferromagnetic pair interactions decaying with power $2-\alpha$ (for $0 \leq \alpha < 1$), and prepared with randomly chosen boundary conditions. We show that at low temperatures in the thermodynamic limit the finite-volume Gibbs measures do not converge, but have a distributional limit, the so-called metastate. We find that there is a distinction between the values of $\alpha$ less than or larger than $\frac{1}{2}$. For moderate, or intermediate, decay $\alpha < \frac{1}{2}$, the metastate is very dispersed and supported on the set of all Gibbs measures, both extremal and non-extremal, whereas for slow decays $\alpha > \frac{1}{2}$ the metastate is still dispersed, but has its support just on the set of the two extremal Gibbs measures, the plus measure and the minus measure. The former, moderate decays case, appears to be new and is due to the occurrence of almost sure boundedness of the random variable which is the sum of all interaction (free) energies between random and ordered half-lines, when the decay is fast enough, but still slow enough to get a phase transition ($\alpha>0$); while the latter, slow decays case, is more reminiscent of and similar to the behaviour of higher-dimensional nearest-neighbour Ising models with diverging boundary (free) energies. Photon number-resolving detectors (PNRDs) are the ultimate optical sensors. Superconducting-nanostrip photon detectors (SNSPDs), traditionally known as ON-OFF detectors, have recently been found to have photon number resolving capability without multiplexing. This discovery positions them to become true PNRDs. However, their practical use is limited by the need to precisely detect tiny signal differences with low signal-to-noise ratios within sub-nanosecond time frames. We overcome this challenge using optical sampling with a dual-output Mach Zehnder modulator (DO-MZM) and ultra-short pulsed laser. By adjusting the DO-MZM's bias voltage to nearly balance the outputs, this method enables sensitive detection of picosecond-order signal differences, achieving a temporal resolution of 1.9 ps and facilitating real-time photon number resolution. We applied this method to produce various non-classical quantum states, enhancing their non-classicality through photon number resolution. Multi-photon Fock states have diverse applications such as optical quantum information processing. For the implementation of quantum information processing, it is desirable that Fock states be generated within the telecommunication wavelength band, particularly in the C-band (1530-1565 nm). This is because mature optical communication technologies can be leveraged for the transmission, manipulation, and detection. Additionally, to achieve high-speed quantum information processing, it is desirable for Fock states to be generated in short optical pulses, as this allows embedding lots of information in the time domain. In this paper, we report the first generation of picosecond pulsed multi-photon Fock states (single-photon and two-photon states) in the C-band with Wigner negativities, which are verified by pulsed homodyne tomography. In our experimental setup, we utilize a single-pixel superconducting nanostrip photon-number-resolving detector (SNSPD), which is expected to facilitate the high-rate generation of various quantum states. This capability stems from the high temporal resolution of SNSPDs (50 ps in our case) allowing us to increase the repetition frequency of pulsed light from the conventional MHz range to the GHz range, although in this experiment the repetition frequency is limited to 10 MHz due to the bandwidth of the homodyne detector. Consequently, our experimental setup is anticipated to serve as a prototype of a high-speed optical quantum state generator for ultrafast quantum information processing at telecommunication wavelength., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

Measurements of circular polarization of $\gamma$-ray emitted from neutron capture reactions provide valuable information for nuclear physics studies. The spin and parity of excited states can be determined by measuring the circular polarization from polarized neutron capture reactions. Furthermore, the $\gamma$-ray circular polarization in a neutron capture resonance is crucial for studying the enhancement effect of parity nonconservation in compound nuclei. The $\gamma$-ray circular polarization can be measured using a polarimeter based on magnetic Compton scattering. A polarimeter was constructed, and its performance indicators were evaluated using a circularly polarized $\gamma$-ray beam. Furthermore, as a demonstration, the $\gamma$-ray circular polarization was measured in $^{32}$S($\vec{\textrm{n}}$,$\gamma$)$^{33}$S reactions with polarized neutrons., Comment: 10pages, 13 figures

We present the detection of cyanothioketene, NCCHCS, in the laboratory and toward TMC-1. This transient species was produced through a discharge of a gas mixture of CH2CHCN and CS2 using argon as carrier gas, and its rotational spectrum between 9 and 40 GHz was characterized using a Balle-Flygare narrowband-type Fourier-transform microwave spectrometer. A total of 21 rotational transitions were detected in the laboratory, all of them exhibiting hyperfine structure induced by the spin of the N nucleus. The spectrum for NCCHCS was predicted in the domain of our line surveys using the derived rotational and distortion constants. The detection in the cold starless core TMC-1 was based on the QUIJOTE line survey performed with the Yebes 40m radio telescope. Twenty-three lines were detected with K_a=0, 1, and 2 and J_u=9 up to 14. The derived column density is (1.2+/-0.1)e11 cm-2 for a rotational temperature of 8.5+/-1 K. The abundance ratio of thioketene and its cyano derivative, H2CCS/NCCHCS, is 6.5+/-1.3. Although ketene is more abundant than thioketene by about 15 times, its cyano derivative NCCHCO surprisingly is not detected with a 3sigma upper level to the column density of 3.0e10 cm-2, which results in an abundance ratio H2CCO/NCCHCO > 430. Hence, the chemistry of CN derivatives seems to be more favored for S-bearing than for O-bearing molecules. Thermal transistors that electrically switch heat flow on and off have attracted attention as thermal management devices. Electrochemical reduction/oxidation switches the thermal conductivity (\k{appa}) of active metal oxide layers. The \k{appa}-switching width (difference between on-state and off-state \k{appa}) of the previously proposed electrochemical thermal transistors is narrow, less than 5 W/mK. Here, we show solid-state electrochemical thermal transistors with a wide \k{appa}-switching width of 9.5 W/mK. We used CeO2 thin film as the active layer directly deposited on a solid electrolyte YSZ substrate. A Pt thin film was deposited on the surface of the CeO2 thin film and the back surface of the YSZ substrate to create a solid-state electrochemical thermal transistor. When the CeO2 thin film was once reduced (off-state) and then oxidized (on-state), the \k{appa} was approximately 2.5 W/mK in its most reduced state, and \k{appa} increased with oxidation to 11.8 W/mK (on-state). This reduction (off-state)/oxidation (on-state) cycle was repeated five times and the average value of \k{appa} was 2.5 W/mK after reduction (off-state) and 12 W/mK after oxidation (on-state). The \k{appa}-switching width was 9.5 W/mK. Bone non-union is among the most severe complications associated with trauma surgery, occurring in 10-30% of cases after long bone fractures. Treating non-unions requires a high level of surgical expertise and often involves multiple revision surgeries, sometimes even leading to amputation. Thus, more accurate prognosis is crucial for patient well-being. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) hold promise for developing models to predict non-union healing, even when working with smaller datasets, a commonly encountered challenge in clinical domains. To demonstrate the effectiveness of ML in identifying candidates at risk of failed non-union healing, we applied three ML models (logistic regression, support vector machine, and XGBoost) to the clinical dataset TRUFFLE, which includes 797 patients with long bone non-union. The models provided prediction results with 70% sensitivity, and the specificities of 66% (XGBoost), 49% (support vector machine), and 43% (logistic regression). Many superconducting on-chip filter-banks suffer from poor coupling to the detectors behind each filter. This is a problem intrinsic to the commonly used half wavelength filter, which has a maximum theoretical coupling of 50 %. In this paper we introduce a phase coherent filter, called a directional filter, which has a theoretical coupling of 100 %. In order to to study and compare different types of filter-banks, we first analyze the measured filter frequency scatter, losses, and spectral resolution of a DESHIMA 2.0 filter-bank chip. Based on measured fabrication tolerances and losses, we adapt the input parameters for our circuit simulations, quantitatively reproducing the measurements. We find that the frequency scatter is caused by nanometer-scale line-width variations and that variances in the spectral resolution is caused by losses in the dielectric only. Finally, we include these realistic parameters in a full filter-bank model and simulate a wide range of spectral resolutions and oversampling values. For all cases the directional filter-bank has significantly higher coupling to the detectors than the half-wave resonator filter-bank. The directional filter eliminates the need to use oversampling as a method to improve the total efficiency, instead capturing nearly all the power remaining after dielectric losses., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. Thermal transistors that switch the thermal conductivity (\k{appa}) of the active layers are attracting increasing attention as thermal management devices. For electrochemical thermal transistors, several transition metal oxides (TMOs) have been proposed as active layers. After electrochemical redox treatment, the crystal structure of the TMO is modulated, which results in the \k{appa} switching. However, the \k{appa} switching width is still small (< 4 W/mK). In this study, we demonstrate that LaNiOx-based solid-state electrochemical thermal transistors have a \k{appa} switching width of 4.3 W/mK. Fully oxidised LaNiO3 (on state) has a \k{appa} of 6.0 W/mK due to the large contribution of electron thermal conductivity (\k{appa}ele, 3.1 W/mK). In contrast, reduced LaNiO2.72 (off state) has a \k{appa} of 1.7 W/mK because the phonons are scattered by the oxygen vacancies. The LaNiOx-based electrochemical thermal transistor exhibits excellent cyclability of \k{appa} and the crystalline lattice of LaNiOx. We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. Transparent oxide semiconductors (TOSs) based thin-film transistors (TFTs) that exhibit higher field effect mobility (uFE) are highly required toward the realization of next-generation displays. Among numerous types of TOS-TFTs, In2O3-based TFTs are the front-running candidate because they exhibit the highest uFE ~100 cm2/Vs. However, the device operation of In2O3 TFTs is unreliable; a large voltage shift occurs especially when negative gate bias is applied due to adsorption/desorption of gas molecules. Although passivation of the TFTs is used to overcome such instability, previously proposed passivation materials did not improve the reliability. Here, we show that the In2O3 TFTs passivated with Y2O3 and Er2O3 films are highly reliable and do not show threshold voltage shifts when applying gate bias. We applied positive and negative gate bias to the In2O3 TFTs passivated with various insulating oxides and found that only the In2O3 TFTs passivated with Y2O3 and Er2O3 films did not exhibit threshold voltage shifts. We observed that only the Y2O3 grew heteroepitaxially on the In2O3 crystal. This would be the origin of the high reliability of the In2O3 TFTs passivated with Y2O3 and Er2O3 films. We study three-body systems in a mass-imbalanced two-component cold-atom mixture, and investigate the three-body parameter of their Efimov states for both bosonic and fermionic systems, with a major focus on the Er-Er-Li Efimov states. For a system interacting solely via van der Waals interactions, the van der Waals universality of the three-body parameter is analytically derived using the quantum defect theory. With the addition of a perturbative dipole interaction between the heavy atoms, the three-body parameters of the bosonic and fermionic Efimov states are found to behave differently. When the dipole interaction is as strong as the van der Waals interaction, corresponding to realistic Er-Er-Li Efimov states, we show that the van der Waals universality persists once the effects of the non-perturbative dipole interaction are renormalized into the s-wave and p-wave scattering parameters between the heavy atoms. For a dipole interaction much stronger than the van der Waals interaction, we find that the universality of the Efimov states can be alternatively characterized by a quasi-one-dimensional scattering parameter due to a strong anisotropic deformation of the Efimov wavefunctions. Our work thus clarifies the interplay of isotropic and anisotropic forces in the universality of the Efimov states. We investigate the topological properties of a two-chain quantum ladder with uneven legs, i.e. the two chains differ in their periods by a factor of two. Such an uneven ladder presents rich band structures classified by the closure of either direct or indirect bandgaps. It also provides opportunities to explore fundamental concepts concerning band topology and edge modes, including the difference of intracellular and intercellular Zak phases, and the role of the inversion symmetry (IS). We calculate the Zak phases of the two kinds and find excellent agreement with the dipole moment and extra charge accumulation, respectively. We also find that configurations with IS feature a pair of degenerate two-side edge modes emerging as the closure of the direct bandgap, while configurations without IS feature one-side edge modes emerging as not only the closure of both direct and indirect bandgap but also within the band continuum. Furthermore, by projecting to the two sublattices, we find that the effective Bloch Hamiltonian corresponds to that of a generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model or Rice-Mele model whose hopping amplitudes depend on the quasimomentum. In this way, the topological phases can be efficiently extracted through winding numbers. We propose that uneven ladders can be realized by spin-dependent optical lattices and their rich topological characteristics can be examined by near future experiments., Comment: 17 pages with 15 figures

In this work, we introduce two types of makeup prior models to extend existing 3D face prior models: PCA-based and StyleGAN2-based priors. The PCA-based prior model is a linear model that is easy to construct and is computationally efficient. However, it retains only low-frequency information. Conversely, the StyleGAN2-based model can represent high-frequency information with relatively higher computational cost than the PCA-based model. Although there is a trade-off between the two models, both are applicable to 3D facial makeup estimation and related applications. By leveraging makeup prior models and designing a makeup consistency module, we effectively address the challenges that previous methods faced in robustly estimating makeup, particularly in the context of handling self-occluded faces. In experiments, we demonstrate that our approach reduces computational costs by several orders of magnitude, achieving speeds up to 180 times faster. In addition, by improving the accuracy of the estimated makeup, we confirm that our methods are highly advantageous for various 3D facial makeup applications such as 3D makeup face reconstruction, user-friendly makeup editing, makeup transfer, and interpolation., Comment: CVPR2024. Flexible spintronics has opened new avenue to promising devices and applications in the field of wearable electronics. Particularly, miniaturized strain sensors exploiting the spintronic function have attracted considerable attention, in which the magnetoelasticity linking magnetism and lattice distortion is a vital property for high-sensitive detection of strain. This paper reports the demonstration that the magnetoelastic properties of Fe$_4$N can be significantly varied by partially replacing Fe with Co or Mn. The high quality Fe$_4$N film exhibits large negative magnetostriction along the [100] direction ($\lambda_{100}$) of -121 ppm while Fe$_{3.2}$Co$_{0.8}$N shows $\lambda_{100}$ of +46 ppm. This wide-range tunability of $\lambda_{100}$ from -121 to +46 across 0 allows us to thoroughly examine the correlation between the magnetoelasticity and other magnetic properties. The strong correlation between $\lambda_{100}$ and magnetic damping ($\alpha$) is found. The enhanced extrinsic term of $\alpha$ is attributable to the large two magnon scattering coming from the large magnetostriction. In addition, the density of states at the Fermi level plays a primal role to determine both $\lambda_{100}$ and the intrinsic term of $\alpha$. Thanks to the giant tunability and the bipolarity of magnetoelasticity, magnetic nitrides are candidate materials for high-sensitive spintronic strain sensors.

Locality sensitive hashing (LSH) is one of the widely-used approaches to approximate nearest neighbor search (ANNS) in high-dimensional spaces. The first work on LSH for the Euclidean distance, E2LSH, showed how ANNS can be solved efficiently at a sublinear query time in the database size with theoretically-guaranteed accuracy, although it required a large hash index size. Since then, several LSH variants having much smaller index sizes have been proposed. Their query time is linear or superlinear, but they have been shown to run effectively faster because they require fewer I/Os when the index is stored on hard disk drives and because they also permit in-memory execution with modern DRAM capacity. In this paper, we show that E2LSH is regaining the advantage in query speed with the advent of modern flash storage devices such as solid-state drives (SSDs). We evaluate E2LSH on a modern single-node computing environment and analyze its computational cost and I/O cost, from which we derive storage performance requirements for its external memory execution. Our analysis indicates that E2LSH on a single consumer-grade SSD can run faster than the state-of-the-art small-index methods executed in-memory. It also indicates that E2LSH with emerging high-performance storage devices and interfaces can approach in-memory E2LSH speeds. We implement a simple adaptation of E2LSH to external memory, E2LSH-on-Storage (E2LSHoS), and evaluate it for practical large datasets of up to one billion objects using different combinations of modern storage devices and interfaces. We demonstrate that our E2LSHoS implementation runs much faster than small-index methods and can approach in-memory E2LSH speeds, and also that its query time scales sublinearly with the database size beyond the index size limit of in-memory E2LSH.

The design of translation symmetric bosonic codes, e.g., Gottesmann-Kitaev-Preskill and squeezed cat codes, is robust against photon loss, but the computation accuracy is limited by the available squeezing level. Here, we introduce the \textit{projective squeezing} (PS) method for computing outcomes for a higher squeezing level by revealing that a linear combination of displacement operators with periodic displacement values constitutes the smeared projector onto the better code space; we also show the analytical relationship between the increased squeezing level and the projection probability. We introduce concrete implementation methods for PS based on linear-combination-of-unitaries and virtual quantum error detection. We also numerically verify our analytical arguments and show that our protocol can mitigate the effect of photon loss.

Entanglement is a fundamental resource of various optical quantum-information-processing (QIP) applications. Towards high-speed QIP system, entanglement should be encoded in short wavepackets. We report real-time observation of ultrafast optical Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation at a picosecond timescale in a continuous-wave (CW) system. Optical phase-sensitive amplification using 6-THz-bandwidth waveguide-optical-parametric amplifier enhances the effective efficiency of 70-GHz-bandwidth homodyne detectors, mainly used in 5th-generation telecommunication, enabling its use in real-time quantum-state measurement. While power measurement using frequency scanning, i.e., optical spectrum analyzer, is not performed in real-time, our observation is demonstrated through real-time amplitude measurement and can be directly employed in QIP applications. Observed EPR states show quantum correlation of 4.5 dB below shotnoise level encoded in wavepackets with 40-ps period, equivalent to 25-GHz repetition -- ${10^3}$ times faster than previous entanglement observation in CW system. The quantum correlation of 4.5 dB is already sufficient for several QIP applications, and our system can be readily extended to large-scale entanglement. Moreover, our scheme has high compatibility with optical communication technology such as wavelength-division multiplexing, and femtosecond-timescale observation is also feasible. We consider the weak convergence of the Euler-Maruyama approximation for Schr\"odinger-F\"ollmer diffusions, which are solutions of Schr\"odinger bridge problems and can be used for sampling from given distributions. We show that the distribution of the terminal random variable of the time-discretized process weakly converges to the target one under mild regularity conditions.

Bosonic quantum systems offer the hardware-efficient construction of error detection/error correction codes by using the infinitely large Hilbert space. However, due to the encoding, arbitrary gate rotations usually require magic state teleportation or complicated optimized pulse sequences involving an ancilla qubit. Here, we propose a simple and hardware-efficient bosonic 02 error detection code that allows for the implementation of arbitrary X and Z rotations and a controlled phase gate by using a Kerr nonlinear resonator. Our code can detect a single photon loss, and we observe significant error suppression by simulating the frequently used hardware-efficient ansatz quantum circuit in near-term quantum computing., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

Simultaneous multislice (SMS) imaging is a one of the acceleration technique of magnetic resonance imaging. SMS requires accurate sensitivity distributions in the slice plane for each receiving coil. This requirement is difficult to satisfy in practice, limiting the applications of this imaging technique. Here, images are reconstructed by applying deep learning and amplitude modulation to each slice image. Simulation experiments show that image reconstruction can be achieved for both real- and complex-valued images. Image quality tends to decrease with increasing number of simultaneously acquired images. It is also shown that a larger difference in the phase modulation coefficients between slices tends to increase the quality of the reconstructed images. Simulation experiments and initial MR imaging experiments show promising results for this method.

The enhancement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the vicinity of $p$-wave compound nuclear resonances was observed for a variety of medium-heavy nuclei. The enhanced parity-violating asymmetry can be understood using the $s$-$p$ mixing model. The $s$-$p$ mixing model predicts several neutron energy-dependent angular correlations between the neutron momentum $\vec k_n$, neutron spin $\vec\sigma_n$, $\gamma$-ray momentum $\vec k_\gamma$, and $\gamma$-ray polarization $\vec\sigma_\gamma$ in the $(n,\gamma)$ reaction. In this paper, the improved value of the transverse asymmetry of $\gamma$-ray emissions, corresponding to a correlation term $\vec{\sigma}_n\cdot(\vec k_n\times\vec k_\gamma)$ in the $^{139}\mathrm{La}(\vec n,\gamma)^{140}\mathrm{La}$ reaction, and the transverse asymmetries in the transitions to several low excited states of $^{140}\mathrm{La}$ are reported., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables

Quantum information processors greatly benefit from high clock frequency to fully harnessing the quantum advantages before they get washed out by the decoherence. In this pursuit, all-optical systems offer unique advantages due to their inherent 100 THz carrier frequency, permitting one to develop THz clock frequency processors. In practice, the bandwidth of the quantum light sources and the measurement devices has been limited to the MHz range and the generation rate of nonclassical states to kHz order -- a tiny fraction of what can be achieved. In this work, we go beyond this limitation by utilizing optical parametric amplifier (OPA) as a squeezed-light source and optical phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSA) to realize high-rate generation of broadband non-Gaussian states and their quantum tomography. Our state generation and measurement system consists of a 6-THz squeezed-light source, a 6-THz PSA, and a 66-GHz homodyne detector. With this system, we have successfully demonstrated non-Gaussian state generation at a 0.9 MHz rate -- almost three orders of magnitude higher than the current state-of-the-art experiments -- with a sub-nanosecond wave packet using continuous-wave laser. The performance is constrained only by the superconducting detector's jitter which currently limits the usable bandwidth of the squeezed light to 1 GHz, rather than the optical and electronic systems. Therefore, if we can overcome the limitation of the timing jitter of superconducting detector, non-Gaussian state generation and detection at GHz rate, or even THz rate, for optical quantum processors might be possible with OPAs., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures

Integrated superconducting spectrometers (ISSs) for wideband sub-mm astronomy utilise quasi-optical systems for coupling radiation from the telescope to the instrument. Misalignment in these systems is detrimental to the system performance. The common method of using an optical laser to align the quasi-optical components requires accurate alignment of the laser to the sub-mm beam coming from the instrument, which is not always guaranteed to a sufficient accuracy. We develop an alignment strategy for wideband ISSs directly utilising the sub-mm beam of the wideband ISS. The strategy should be applicable in both telescope and laboratory environments. Moreover, the strategy should deliver similar quality of the alignment across the spectral range of the wideband ISS. We measure misalignment in a quasi-optical system operating at sub-mm wavelengths using a novel phase and amplitude measurement scheme, capable of simultaneously measuring the complex beam patterns of a direct-detecting ISS across a harmonic range of frequencies. The direct detection nature of the MKID detectors in our device-under-test, DESHIMA 2.0, necessitates the use of this measurement scheme. Using geometrical optics, the measured misalignment, a mechanical hexapod, and an optimisation algorithm, we follow a numerical approach to optimise the positioning of corrective optics with respect to a given cost function. Laboratory measurements of the complex beam patterns are taken across a harmonic range between 205 and 391 GHz and simulated through a model of the ASTE telescope in order to assess the performance of the optimisation at the ASTE telescope. Laboratory measurements show that the optimised optical setup corrects for tilts and offsets of the sub-mm beam. Moreover, we find that the simulated telescope aperture efficiency is increased across the frequency range of the ISS after the optimisation., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures. A needle-free injector using a highly focused microjet has the potential to minimize the invasiveness of drug delivery. In this study, the jet penetration depth in a soft material-which is a critical parameter for practical needle-free injections-was investigated. We conducted jet penetration experiments by varying the inner diameter of the injection tube and the standoff distance between the meniscus surface and the soft material. Interestingly, the results showed that the penetration depths peaked at certain distances from the meniscus, and the positions shifted further away as the inner diameter was increased. By analyzing the velocity distribution of the microjet, the peak positions of the penetration depth and the maximum velocities were inconsistent due to the effects of the jet shape. To account for this, we introduce the concept of the 'jet pressure impulse', a physical quantity that unifies the velocity and jet shape. However, direct estimation of this parameter from experimental data is challenging due to limitations in spatiotemporal resolution. Therefore, we used numerical simulations to replicate the experimental conditions and calculate the jet pressure impulse. Remarkably, the results show that the jet pressure impulse has peak values, which is consistent with the penetration depth. In addition, there is a correlation between the magnitude of the jet pressure impulse and the penetration depth, highlighting its importance as a key parameter. This study underlines the importance of the jet pressure impulse in controlling the penetration depth of a focused microjet, providing valuable insights for the practical use of needle-free injection techniques., Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures

In order to provide a cloud service of optical quantum computing, it is inevitable to stabilize the optical system for many hours. It is advantageous to construct a fiber-based system, which does not require spatial alignment. However, fiber-based systems are instead subject to fiber-specific instabilities. For instance, there are phase drifts due to ambient temperature changes and external disturbances, and polarization fluctuations due to the finite polarization extinction ratio of fiber components. Here, we report the success of measuring squeezed light with a fiber system for 24 hours. To do this, we introduce stabilization mechanics to suppress fluctuations in the fiber system, and integrated controller to automatically align the entire system. The squeezed light at the wavelength of 1545.3 nm is measured every 2 minutes, where automated alignments are inserted every 30 minutes. The squeezing levels with the average of -4.42 dB are recorded with an extremely small standard deviation of 0.08 dB over 24 hours.

We demonstrate balanced-detection dual-comb spectroscopy (DCS) using two free-running mechanical sharing dual-comb fiber lasers assisted by an all-computational digital phase correction algorithm. The mutual coherence between the combs allows us perform mode-resolved spectroscopy of gaseous hydrogen cyanide by digitally compensating residual timing and offset frequency fluctuations of the dual-comb signal. Setting the repetition rate difference between the combs to 500 Hz (1.5 kHz) yields more than 2000 resolved radio frequency comb lines after phase correction in a 3-dB bandwidth centered at 1560 nm of wavelength. Through coadding the corrected interferograms (IGMs), we obtain a single time-domain trace with a SNR of 6378 (13960) and 12.64 (13.77) bits of dynamic range in 1 second of averaging. The spectral SNR of the coadded trace reaches 529 (585), corresponding to a figure of merit of SNR of 1.3$\times$10$^6$ (1.4$\times$10$^6$). We study the photophobic ALP model in high-mass regions under LHC Run-II. Since the ALP is predominantly coupled with electroweak gauge bosons such as $ZZ$, $WW$, and $Z\gamma$, and less with di-photon, the model may be probed via multi-boson final-state processes. We find that on-shell ALP productions with $Z\gamma$ final states currently provide the best sensitivities for $m_{a} > 40~{\rm GeV}$., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, version accepted by JHEP

We propose using the dynamical invariant also known as the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant, to speed-up the equilibration of a driven open quantum system. This allows us to reverse engineer the time-dependent master equation that describes the dynamics of the open quantum system and systematically derive a protocol that realizes a shortcut to equilibration. The method does not require additional constraints on the timescale of the dynamics beside the Born-Markov approximation and can be generically applied to boost single particle quantum engines significantly. We demonstrate it with the damped harmonic oscillator, and show that our protocol can achieve a high-fidelity control in shorter timescales than simple non-optimized protocols. We find that the system is heated during the dynamics to speed-up the equilibration, which can be considered as an analogue of the Mpemba effect in quantum control., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure and an appendix
