Emotion-focused therapy is an integrative approach based on humanisticexperiential therapy such as client-centered therapy and Gestalt therapy, attachmenttheory, and family systems theory. Emotion-focused therapy emphasizes theimportance of emotions in psychotherapy and emotions are seen as the maincomponents of interventions. It provides a unique framework for working withemotional processes, and use targeted techniques to trigger and transform clients’emotional experiences. This review paper mainly aimed to address the fundamentalaspects of emotion-focused therapy and emphasize the importance of emotionfocused therapy for clients and clinicians by providing information about the basicprinciples of emotion-focused therapy, the stages of the therapy process,fundamental emotion-focused therapy techniques, and the psychological problemsin which emotion-focused therapy is effective. Considering that emotion-focusedtherapy is a relatively less applied approach compared to the other approach andemotion-focused therapy studies are relatively rare in the literature, this reviewpaper may enable emotion-focused therapy to become a more frequently appliedapproach in clinics in Turkey and increase research on it, Duygu odaklı terapi; hümanistik-deneyimsel terapiye dayalı (örneğin; danışanmerkezli terapi, Gestalt terapi, bağlanma teorisi ve aile sistemleri teorisi)bütünleştirici bir yaklaşımdır. Duygu odaklı terapi, psikoterapide duygularınönemini vurgular ve duygular, müdahalelerin ana bileşenleri olarak değerlendirilir.Duygu odaklı terapi duygusal süreçlerle çalışmak için benzersiz bir çerçeve sağlar ve danışanların duygusal deneyimlerini tetiklemek ve dönüştürmek için hedefe yönelik tekniklerkullanır. Bu derleme makalesi, duygu odaklı terapinin temel ilkeleri, terapi sürecinin aşamaları, duyguodaklı terapi teknikleri ve duygu odaklı terapinin etkili olduğu psikolojik sorunlar hakkında bilgi vererekduygu odaklı terapinin temel yönlerini ele almayı ve danışanlar ve klinisyenler için duygu odaklıterapinin önemini vurgulamayı amaçlamıştır. Duygu odaklı terapinin diğer yaklaşımlara göre nispetendaha az uygulanan bir yaklaşım olduğu ve literatürde duygu odaklı terapi çalışmalarının nispeten azolduğu göz önüne alındığında, bu derleme makalesi duygu odaklı terapinin Türkiye’deki kliniklerdedaha sık uygulanan bir yaklaşım haline gelmesini ve duygu odaklı terapi konusundaki araştırmalarınartmasını sağlayabilir.

Grief is a normal, dynamic and multidimensional process, which relates to the individuality and uniqueness of reactions to loss. However, complicated grief is a syndrome where normal grief is unusually prolonged because of complications in the natural healing process. Approximately one third of grieving individuals develop complicated grief symptoms. The individuals suffering from complicated grief tend to report clinical complaints that refer to anxiety, depression, psychical symptoms and life-threatening behaviours. The aims of this study were: to identify which psychother-apy-based interventions were designed for the treatment of complicated grief; and to make an infer-ence about the effect of these interventions., Yas tutmak, kaybın ardından kayba verilen tepkinin benzersizliği ile ilişkili olarak gelişen doğal, dinamik ve çok boyutlu bir süreçtir. Patolojik yas ise, bireyin doğal iyileşme sürecinde ortaya çıkan komplikasyonlar nedeniyle normal yas sürecinin alışılmadık şekilde uzadığı bir sendromdur. Yas tutan bireylerin yaklaşık üçte biri patolojik yas belirtileri göstermektedir. Patolojik yas yaşayan bireylerin kaygı, depresyon, fiziksel belirtiler ve yaşamı tehdit eden davranışları ifade eden bazı klinik şikâyetleri rapor etme eğiliminde oldukları belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, patolojik yas tedavisi için geliştirilmiş olan psikoterapi modellerini tespit etmek ve bu modellerin yas sürecine uyum üzerindeki etkileri hakkında çıkarım yapmaktır.

A loss is an adverse external event which a person has no control over and changes one's beliefsystem and cognitions. Normal grief is a normal reaction to loss and refers to the distress resultingfrom bereavement. However, complicated grief is a syndrome where normal grief is unusuallyprolonged because of complications in the natural healing process; namely the insufficient integrationof a new situation into pre-existing cognitive structures and distorted beliefs during thegrieving process. Complicated Grief is a disorder characterised by an inability to accept the death,intense yearning, avoidance, somatic distress, social withdrawal and suicidal ideation and has adistinct cluster of symptoms which can be distinguished from other psychiatric disorders. The aimsof this review are to give an overview of abnormal forms of grief reactions and risk factors, tointroduce proposed diagnostic criteria for complicated grief, to inform about the assessment tools,and to demonstrate the distinction between complicated grief and other psychiatric disorders. Kayıp, üzerinde kontrol sahibi olunamayan bireylerin inanç sistemlerinin ve algılayış biçimlerinindeğişmesine sebep olan olumsuz bir olaydır. Normal yas kayba karşı verilen normal bir tepki olup,kederden kaynaklanan sıkıntıyı ifade eder. Komplike yas ise, yeni durumun var olan bilişsel yapıyayeterince entegre edilememesi ve yas tutma sürecindeki çarpıtılmış inançlar gibi bireyin iyileşmesürecinde ortaya çıkan komplikasyonlar nedeniyle yas sürecinin alışılmadık şekilde uzadığı birsendromdur. Komplike yas ölümün gerçekliğini kabul edememe, yoğun özlem duyma, kaçınmadavranışı, bedensel sıkıntı, sosyal geri çekilme ve intihar düşüncesiyle karakterize edilebilen ve diğerpsikolojik rahatsızlıklardan ayırt edilebilen bir sendromdur. Bu derlemenin amacı normal dışı yastepkileri ve risk faktörleri hakkında genel bir bakış sağlamak, komplike yas için önerilen tanı ölçütlerinitanıtmak, değerlendirme araçları hakkında bilgi vermek ve komplike yas ile diğer psikiyatrikbozukluklar arasındaki ayrımı göstermektir.
