During the Garden Lupine’s two centuries of presence in Sweden, its apprehension has been marked by cultural reconfigurations – from an appreciated garden plant, through being a token for Swedish midsummer to being deemed an invasive alien species and ecological threat. With the purpose of deepening the understanding of how environmental management works as a nexus of nature and culture, this article analyzes ‘The Great Lupine Combat Day’, to show how the lifecycle of plants and culturally imbued actions and preferences interact. By employing ethnographic methods and qualitative source material to enable a cultural analysis of the traditionalization of eradicating invasive species, the article shows how this annual event ties together an established annual calendar, the life cycle and visuality of plants, biodiversity crises, an idealized aesthetics feature of Swedish nature, and eradication practices. This study draws on neo‐institutional theory to examine how and why corporate environmental management practices might affect environmental performance. It contributes to the literature by using a large, global data set to investigate the impact of 10 corporate environmental management practices on greenhouse gas emissions or emissions intensity. It focuses on greenhouse gas emissions which pose an existential threat to the people and planet, and the environmental management practices of corporations whose effectiveness has provoked cynicism and claims of "greenwash". Our results are based on a dynamic, robust and large‐scale econometric analysis, which includes tests of association and Granger causation in comparison with earlier research. A key finding, which is of interest not only to the academic literature but also to policymakers and managers, is that environmental performance impacts environmental management practices but not vice versa, supporting the hypothesis that corporations adopt these practices as a symbolic legitimizing device rather than a genuine attempt derived from moral obligation to reduce their greenhouse gases or carbon intensity. The relationship between environmental management practices (EMPs), green innovation, and company performance is investigated in this study. Although prior studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of implementing green management practices on financial performance, the objective of this study is to offer more comprehensive insights by integrating empirical measurements of green innovations. The study looks into how green innovations affect the connection between business performance and EMPs. EMPs are crucial policies that businesses implement to protect the environment and abide by environmental laws. According to the study, financial performance and environmental performance can reinforce one another when investments are made in green innovations. The study adds to the body of knowledge already available on the connection between business environmental sustainability and financial performance by expanding on earlier empirical claims. Environmental and climate concerns have made corporate environmental management a raging topic for discussion among academicians and industrialists. The current study explores the association between corporate environmental management and firm performance; and examines the influence of different performance measurement methods and sample characteristics on this association. The meta‐analysis, homogeneity test, and publication bias test have been performed on 318 effect sizes from 117 studies. The results indicate a significant positive association between the overall corporate environmental management and firm performance association. The findings suggest a significant influence of the nature of the data, corporate environmental management measures, corporate performance measures, region, economic development, time phase, nature of data, and period of study in the given context. The findings will help managers to better understand and choose the appropriate corporate environmental management measures to attain internal and external efficiencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: With the increasing concern over environmental pollution and global warming, companies are required to act responsibly to mitigate these environmental issues. Their activities should adhere to the standards of environmental sustainability. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the impact of green supply chain management (GSCM) and total quality management (TQM) on environmental sustainability, with environmental management practices (EMP) as the moderating factor. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative study was adopted using the management data from various manufacturing companies in Jordan. A total of 362 responses were collected, and the proposed hypotheses were tested using a structural equation model. Findings: The study findings revealed that both GSCM and TQM significantly and positively influenced environmental sustainability. The impact of TQM on environmental sustainability was higher than that of GSCM. Moreover, no evidence was found on the moderating role of EMP. Practical implications: The study's results highlighted to the decision-makers the main practices to expand the quality implementation across their supply chain to improve environmental sustainability. The study also demonstrated the reasons behind the insignificance of EMPs in strengthening the relationships between GSCM, TQM, and environmental sustainability. Originality/value: While there are very few studies examining the relationships between GSCM and TQM on environmental sustainability. This study adds to the literature body as one of a few empirical studies that tested the integrated effect of GSCM and TQM practices within the context of the manufacturing industry in a developing country. Globally, instituting good environmental management practices within cities in developing countries is a climate-induced risk mitigation strategy. It is, however, an opportunity for local municipalities to achieve fiscal sustainability objectives and environmentally responsible decisions. Cash-constrained local municipalities are characterized by failures to balance environmental and financial needs, resulting in complex urban sustainability challenges. Therefore, this article examines the relationship between environmental management expenditure and fiscal sustainability (FS) in South African local municipalities to contribute to the debate concerning the sustainability of environmental protection projects in local municipalities. The study employed ordinary least squares and feasible generalized least squares to estimate coefficients of linear regression equations involving data collected from 30 local municipalities from 2012 to 2021. The results suggest that only wastewater and environmental protection expenditures positively impact FS, with solid waste management expenditure influencing the FS negatively. Lessons from the research will assist policymakers and municipal administrators in addressing environmental policy incoherence for the improved financial viability of environmental protection projects. Lastly, future research can focus on environmental data collection and reporting for improved and informed environmental protection decisions.

Stakeholder pressure is among the pathways through which firms are being prodded to adopt environmental management practices. Owing to research paucity from the context of developing countries and overall inconclusiveness, this research investigates whether mimetic, normative, and coercive pressures (which encompass stakeholder pressure) sway firms into adopting resource management and energy efficiency. An analysis of data from 852 firms in Kenya using a simple probit model, suggests that all the three types of stakeholder pressure positively influenced corporate resource management and energy efficiency. This augments our postulations on both stakeholder and neo-institutional theories. Motivation: A better understanding of the dynamics of the factors that influence the environmental behaviour of small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia is crucial for new policy experiments. Purpose: We examine the drivers, barriers, and incentives of SMEs in adopting environmental practices and reporting, as well as the dynamics driving SME decision‐making in Malaysia. Methods and approach: This article uses multiple case studies and semi‐structured interviews as the qualitative methodology is best suited to gain an in‐depth understanding of SME experiences and perceptions. Findings: SMEs have adopted several environmental practices, and few have already engaged in environmental reporting, albeit at varying levels. The perceived reputation‐enhancing and knowledge‐disseminating results are a strong incentive for SMEs. Interestingly, SMEs' decision to adopt environmental practices and reporting is driven by multiple factors, leaving more room for policy experimentation, as our dynamic interaction matrix shows. Policy implications: Comprehensive environmental practices and reporting by SMEs is feasible if policy design considers the dynamics of regulatory pressures, key drivers, and perceived incentives. Whereas the previous research on environmental management practices explores their relationship with innovation performance, this paper investigates whether those practices can help firms to overcome obstacles to innovation. More precisely, the purpose of this article is to empirically investigate the relationship between environmental management practices and three types of innovation obstacles: cost, knowledge and market obstacles. By using three databases on a sample of French manufacturing firms, our findings demonstrate that the adoption of environmental management practices significantly reduces cost and knowledge obstacles to innovation but has no significant effect on market obstacles. Therefore, this study advances research on innovation performance improvement by unveiling that the adoption of environmental management practices can serve as a mechanism for breaking through innovation obstacles. Although SMEs contribute much to Vietnamese economic growth, they cause significant negative impacts on the environment. In environmental literature, the institutional theory is suggested to be used as a theoretical lens to examine the pressure driving an organization to improve environmental performance and indirectly through strategic response. Despite that, this theory needs more application to predict SMEs' environmentally friendly outcomes. Hence, this study draws upon institutional theory to examine that three institutional pressures, coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures have a direct impact on environmental performance as well as an indirect impact through the adoption of environmental management practices. Data were collected by surveying 253 manufacturing SMEs operating in Vietnam. Partial least-squared structural equation modeling was executed to assess data. The results suggest that three institutional pressures, coercive, mimetic, and normative pressure, indirectly improve environmental performance by adopting environmental management practices. At the same time, there is no direct effect of these pressures on environmental performance. These findings shed light on how institutional pressures affect environmental management practice adoption and environmental performance in the SME context. These findings also contribute the theoretical development of institutional theory by showing that adopting environmental management practices is a strategic response to institutional pressures to gain environmental performance. Lastly, due to mixed results on the relationship between institutional pressures and its outcomes (e.g., environmental management practice adoption, environmental performance), this study cast light on those relationships in Vietnam.

Although the performance implications of inter- and intra-firm collaborations have been discussed by prior studies, how such collaborations can drive the accelerated internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) originating from emerging markets remains unclear. This study was, thus, aimed at shedding light on this relationship by drawing insights from the resource-based view (RBV). We argued that the interaction between inter- and intra-firm collaborations can drive accelerated internationalization through environmental management practices. We, thus, developed and tested a conceptual framework by performing structural equation modeling on a sample of 208 SMEs based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Our findings reveal that the interaction between inter- and intra-firm collaborations is indeed conducive to accelerated internationalization. More importantly, we found that environmental management practices mediate the relationship between such interaction and accelerated internationalization. Our findings have important implications for international entrepreneurship research and practice in relation to how environmental management practices can enhance such a relationship. This study examines the effects of environmental management practices on environmental knowledge and environmentally responsible behavior by means of an environmental commitment moderator variable regarding the hotel employees in Manavgat–Türkiye. The existing literature on the relevant concepts has provided the theoretical basis of the research. Using the stratified convenience sampling method, a sample of 403 hotel employees from various hotels in the region participated in the survey. First of all, data screening analysis was used for the analysis of research data and the results obtained were analyzed through the AMOS program to test the structural model. According to the research results, it has been determined that environmental management practices are considered to be an important variable in terms of environmental knowledge and environmental knowledge positively affects the level of responsible behavior. In addition, it has been concluded that environmental commitment strengthens the relationship between these variables. In future research, it is predicted that the implementation of this study, which has been applied to hotel employees, in other areas of the tourism sector by taking into account the variables such as organizational commitment, business attachment, organizational performance, and employee attitude will enrich the literature. The present work is an attempt to investigate the adoption of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices amongst manufacturing and process based organisations in India and its impact on organisational performance encompassing all three dimensions of sustainability. SSCM practices conceived in the present study include environmental management practices (EMP), socially inclusive practices for employees (SPE), socially inclusive practices for community (SPC), operations practices (OP) and supply chain integration (SCI) which were treated as exogenous variables. Organisational performance considered in this study includes five dimensions, namely environmental performance (EPR), employee-centred social performance (ESP), community-centred social performance (CSP), operations performance (OPR) and competitiveness, which were regarded as endogenous variables. The analysis was carried out with the help of structural equation modelling considering natural logarithm of manpower as a control variable. Few major findings are mentioned. EMP does not have any significant association with OPR, nor does it result in competitiveness. However, when jointly mediated through both EPR and OPR, EMP leads to competitiveness. SPC has significant negative association with competitiveness, when only direct relationship is considered. However, indirect relationship between SPC and competitiveness shows significant positive association when mediated through CSP. The resultant total effect between SPC and competitiveness turns out to be insignificant. Further, OPR fully mediates the relationship between OP and competitiveness. SMEs in the food manufacturing sector represent a considerable proportion of mainstream businesses in Malaysia. The changes in the lifestyles of Malaysians have led to increased demand for convenience and processed foods, which has led to a growing number of food manufacturing establishments in Malaysia. Nevertheless, the expansion in the food manufacturing sector is followed by a rise in environmental issues. Therefore, to mitigate the impact of food manufacturing activities on the environment, one of the best possible solutions is to implement environmental management practices (EMPs). SMEs may encounter varying levels of pressure from customers, regulatory bodies, and the social community regarding environmental behavior and compliance. This study used the Stakeholder theory to develop the research model. The first objective of this study is to determine the effect of SMEs' external stakeholders, including customer pressure, regulatory pressure, and social community pressure, on food manufacturing SMEs' intention to adopt EMPs. The second objective is to test the effect of firm size as a moderating variable. A structured questionnaire was administered to 367 food manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia. The findings reveal that the SMEs' intention to adopt EMPs was significantly related to customer, regulatory, and social community pressures. The study also discovered that firm size only moderated the relationship between customer pressure and the intention to adopt EMPs. The results provided a more robust understanding of the effect of external factors on SMEs' intentions toward EMPs. Policymakers are recommended to carefully consider those factors to encourage more SMEs to adopt EMPs. Large enterprises have been at the forefront of environmental management with active participation in industrywide programs and adoption of a 'beyond compliance' approach. The present study revisits the premise of environmental–financial linkage in an Indian context with a focus on large listed enterprises. We develop a comprehensive dataset of 459 large listed Indian companies covering major manufacturing and service sectors of the economy over an eleven-year period from 2008–09 to 2018–19. Static and dynamic regression models are used to gauge the impact of environmental management practices on firm profitability (Return on Assets and Return on Equity) and market valuation (Tobin Q, Market to Book Value Ratio and Excess Valuation to sales ratio). Empirical results suggest a positive impact of environmental management on firm profitability and market valuation. These results are of interest to corporate and policy makers for recognizing the financial implications of corporate environmental management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drawing on institutional theory using data of S&P 500 listed firms over the period 2007 to 2018, this study examines the role of external environmental audit between environmental management practices (EMP) and environmental performance. In particular, we explore whether the integration of environmental audit with environmental management practices contribute to desire environmental performance. This study adopts generalized least squares (GLS), linear regression with random effects to examine the relationship among variables. Empirical findings suggest that firms adopting the external environmental audit instrument with the internal mechanism of EMP are found more effective to exhibit better environmental performance. Furthermore, the findings also confirm that the internal instrument of environmental management practices have valuable capability to produce better environmental performance. Finally, the results show that the operational implications of environmental audit need to be more focused by researchers.

Research on the impact of environmental management practices (EMPs) on financial performance of firms to date has ignored the moderating role played by environmental cost-efficiency (ECE) and environmental liability. Despite the increasing interest in examining the environmental stance in the corporate world, there is lack of evidence on the reactive and proactive environmental management of Indian business entities and their impact on their profitability. This paper explores the EMPs of firms listed on S&P BSE GreenEx and CarbonEx. Content analysis is used to collect data on EMPs and pilot study is conducted in five experimental rounds to test the reliability of the coded categories by three coders, two academicians holding expertise in environmental sciences and the author. Coded categories are used as independent variables. Moderating variables viz. ECE and environmental liability are found to be intensifying the statistically significant negative effect of proactive and reactive EMPs on firm profitability. Findings clearly refute the ‘win-win’ hypothesis.

Spill and pollution (SP) accidents cause significant damage to the natural environment. They also result in financial costs and reputational losses for the offending firm. As such, understanding how firms respond to such crises is of significant interest to firm stakeholders, such as investors, customers, regulators, NGOs, employees, and local communities. In this study, we examine whether publicly disclosed SP accidents cause firms to alter their approach to environmental management, as expressed by the adoption of environmental management practices (EMPs). Using a unique panel data from 2002 to 2013, representing over 400 publicly traded US manufacturing firms, we find that in the absence of a SP accident, firms adopt more EMPs each year. However, when firms experience a SP accident they respond in surprising ways: while sustainability leading firms do not alter their existing approach to EMP adoption, regardless of the severity of the accident, all other firms do. Firms which are not sustainability leaders escalate the number of EMPs they adopt after low severity accidents and de‐escalate the number of EMPs they adopt after high severity accidents. We also find that de‐escalation can last for up to 3 years and firms do not seem to recover from de‐escalation in future years. Finally, incurring more accidents or more severe accidents leads to greater de‐escalation. Given that the number of EMPs firms adopt determines a firm's environmental performance, de‐escalation can have significant negative consequences for both the natural environment and firms themselves. This study analyses the environmental and social management practices' impact on the organisations' economic performance via the mediating role of social and environmental performance. Moreover, it investigates the impact of social and environmental performance on economic performance through the moderating impact of financial conditions. The primary data are collected through a survey-based questionnaire technique from the manufacturing sector of Oman. Data analysed through the confirmatory factor analysis and the application of structural equation modelling. Findings have suggested that environmental management practices and social management practices positively impact economic performance and that social and environmental performance have mediating effects. Further, the financial condition impacts social performance and economic performance but has an insignificant relation as a moderator between environmental performance and economic performance. These findings would aid the managers to construct meticulous policies for the sustainable growth of the organisations. Moreover, the manufacturing sector policymakers need to adopt EMP and apply social management practices to garner sustainable economic performance. This study has a significant contribution to the literature by highlighting the mediating effect of social and environmental performance and moderating the impact of financial conditions on the corporate sector's performance. This study investigates the relationship between environmental management practices (EMPs) and financial performance (FP) and consequently ascertains whether environmental performance (EP) can mediate the EMPs–FP nexus. Distinctly using data envelopment analysis and generalised method of moments techniques to analyse a comprehensive dataset of Nikkei 225 listed firms from 2007 to 2018 (1920 firm‐year observations), our findings first suggest that EMPs have a positive effect on FP. Second, the desired EP can be achieved through the adoption of comprehensive EMPs. Third, improved EP has a substantial impact on shaping the EMPs' effect on FP. These findings are consistent with the predictions of resource‐based view and institutional theories. The results are robust to controlling for different types of alternative measures and endogeneities. There is growing concern about the disastrous effect of the food manufacturing sector on the environment, making environmental management practices (EMPs) a potential solution that cannot be ignored. In order to deepen the knowledge related to environmental attitude and the relationship between this attitude and the intention to adopt EMPs, the owner‐managers of small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs), which are the primary decision‐makers in the organisation, are the best area of interest to be tested. This paper aims to investigate the influence of owner‐managers' environmental attitude and its mediation effect, as well as the influences of attributes of innovation toward the intention to adopt EMPs. This study was conducted on 367 food manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia, and the data collected were analysed using structural equation modelling. Findings revealed that environmental attitude, relative advantage, compatibility, and complexity have significantly influenced the owner‐managers' intention to adopt EMPs. Furthermore, the owner‐managers' environmental attitude proved to have partial mediation effects in the structural model. The paper has significant implications as it shows the vital role of the owner‐managers' environmental attitude, not only as a driver that nurtures the intentions of EMPs, but also as an intervening variable that mediates the relationship between the attributes of innovation and the intention to adopt EMPs. The relationship between environmental management practices and firm performance has continuously received much attention in academic research. As existing literature on the link of the two constructs is characterized by heterogeneous research characteristics and mixed empirical evidence, one interesting question arises: Do research characteristics affect the magnitude and direction of the relationship between environmental management practices and firm performance? Amassing a database of 92 studies, 199 effect sizes, and 72,258 firms, we examine this question by conducting a meta‐analysis. The characteristics investigated in this study include item number of performance measures, year of data collection, industry type, economic development, and Hofstede's five cultural dimensions. A meta‐regression reveals that environmental management practices are positively associated with firm performance and that the degree of this association depends on these contexts. Specifically, the environmental management practices–performance relationship increases with year of data collection, is stronger with multiple item measures, and is higher for firms in developed countries and in cultures characterized by high power distance, low individualism, low uncertainty avoidance, and low long‐term orientation. The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of green organizational culture between environmental management practices (EMPs) and environmental performance. The study collected data from 157 manufacturing firms and employed the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling as an analytical tool to test all hypothesized relationships. The results of the study indicated that EMPs (green manufacturing and green procurement) and green organizational culture are significant predictors of environmental performance. The study further showed that EMPs (green manufacturing and green procurement) have a significant positive effect on green organizational culture. It was also realized that green organizational culture plays a mediating role between EMPs and environmental performance. The study provides insight for managers to ensure that EMPs become a vital and permanent activity, thus becoming a cultural value which will be accepted and supported by all organizational members in the quest to achieve environmental performance goals. There is a broad spectrum of proactivity in environmental management practices in companies and industries, ranging from purely reactive efforts to adhere to minimum regulatory standards to innovative projects to develop new pollution preventing technologies and risk mitigation strategies. In fact, the importance of a proactive environmental management is increasingly recognized by academics, practitioners and policy makers alike. However, proactivity is still not clearly captured by current environmental management models, which often do not include it as a core element and lack practical guidelines on how to operationalize it at firm-level. In order to systematize the fragmented understanding on proactive environmental management practices applied in companies and industries, including their operationalization and determinants, we conducted a comprehensive review of 116 academic papers. Our results are presented and discussed along three main perspectives: (i) evolutionary stage models; (ii) typology models; and (iii) proactive practices. By comparing these three perspectives, we found that only the evolutionary stage models can fully capture proactive environmental management approaches in an integrative way, while the other two perspectives assume proactivity is highly specific of an organizational sector or function. The results also allow us to clarify and distinguish proactivity-related terms and concepts that are often used interchangeably, such as cleaner production, pollution prevention and eco-efficiency. Finally, we developed a synthetizing framework of the current literature on firm-level environmental proactivity that integrates proactive practices (divided into three dimensions: organizational, operational, and communicational), drivers of proactivity and evolutionary maturity stages towards increased proactivity. Recent discussions in the specialised literature support that quality management influences the level and maturity of environmental management practices; however, in searches performed in the ISI Web of Science and Scopus databases, it was verified that there is a need for research to portray this relationship quantitatively, especially when it comes to companies located in Brazil. Thus, this research aims to explore this gap: does quality management positively influence the adoption of environmental practices in companies located in Brazil? Therefore, a conceptual grounding on the aforementioned issues was carried out and, based on this, the questionnaire used for the empirical phase of the research was constructed, being a self-administered e-survey with 104 companies of all sizes and sectors located in Brazil. The results demonstrated that, in fact, quality management positively influences environmental management practices. In addition, it was verified that the size of the companies and ISO 14001 certification are significant to control environmental management practices. To date, it is believed that this is the first study that shows a survey to test the relationship between quality management and environmental management practices in companies in Brazil. Purpose The chapter investigates the relationship between environmental management practices (EMPs) and financial performance (FP). Design/Methodology/Approach The study is based on a sample of 187 SMEs and uses data on six EMPs (energy, water, waste, material, emissions, and biodiversity) collected through a self-administered questionnaire from owner-managers of SMEs. Ordinary least squares regression is employed to model the hypothesized paths. Findings The results suggest a positive and significant relationship between EMPs (energy, water, and material) and FP. There is also a significant positive relationship between an aggregate EMP measure and FP. However, other EMPs (waste, emissions, and biodiversity) are not significantly associated with FP. Overall, these results provide empirical support to the mostly normative suggestion that the conflicting results on the environmental management and financial performance relationship are partly due to the EMP measure used. Research Limitations/Implications The study is based on cross-sectional data, and therefore, it is impossible to determine any changes over time. Longitudinal studies could help confirm the relationship between EMP and FP over a longer period. From a policy perspective, this results mean that the Ghanaian EPA must monitor more closely for violations of laws and regulations relating to waste, emissions, and biodiversity since SMEs do not have incentives to manage these impacts without commensurate return. Originality/Value The study contributes by documenting evidence of the relationship between multiple measures of EMP and FP. This unlike most existing studies has enabled us to report evidence of how each EMP measure affects FP differently and where win--win opportunities are for SMEs. Abstract The present work is an attempt to investigate the adoption of Sustainable Supply Chain Management practices amongst manufacturing and process based organizations in India and its impact on firm performance encompassing all three dimensions of sustainability. Sustainable Supply Chain Management practices conceived in the present study include Environmental Management Practices, Socially Inclusive Practices for Employees, Socially Inclusive Practices for Community, Operations Practices, and Supply Chain Integration which were treated as exogenous variables. Firm performance considered in this study includes five dimensions, namely Environmental Performance, Employee-centred Social Performance, Community-centred Social Performance, Operations Performance, and Competitiveness , which were regarded as endogenous variables. The analysis was carried out with the help of structural equation modeling considering natural logarithm of manpower as a control variable. It is found that the construct environmental management practices does not have any significant association with operations performance, nor does it result in competitiveness. However, when jointly mediated through both environmental performance and operations performance, environmental management practices lead to competitiveness. Socially inclusive practices for community have significant negative association with competitiveness, when only direct relationship is considered. However, its indirect relationship with competitiveness shows significant positive association when mediated through community-centred social performance. The resultant total effect between socially inclusive practices for community and competitiveness turns out to be insignificant. Further, operations performance fully mediates the relationship between operations practices and competitiveness. Managerial implications of the findings are discussed. Background: Environmental management systems and practices have become a necessity in wine supply chains, given their vulnerability to climate change. Climate change could lead to a 55% loss of wine-cultivating land in South Africa by 2050, which would harm the first two tiers of the wine supply chain. Objectives: The objective was to investigate the current environmental systems and practices applied in the first two tiers of the Northern Cape wine supply chain. Method: This qualitative exploratory study was conducted by semi-structured interviews to determine the various environmental management systems and practices adopted by role players. The data collected were analysed by thematic analysis. Results: The results indicated the implementation of an environmental management tool, namely the Integrated Production of Wine scheme. Supportive practices such as water- and energy-wise approaches, soil management and waste management were also identified. Furthermore, a sincere relationship between farmers, cellars and viticulturists results in collaboration based on mutual information sharing and cooperation between role players to reduce their environmental impact. Conclusion: The various environmental management practices and the collaborative approach between role players can serve as an example to other agricultural supply chains.

Abstract This study aimed to identify and analyze the environmental management practices in the industry carried out in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in the period from 2011 to 2015, with the aid of scientific literature published in the Scopus database. Due to the expansion of the bloc's development, these countries presented a high potential to impact the environment. Therefore, this study is relevant because it identifies trends about the Environment Management Practices that have been followed in industries of BRICS, increasing the theoretical allowance for discussions concerning Environment Management Practices in these countries. Consequently, a survey on environmental management practices was conducted using the keyword "industrial environmental management practices" and the name of each country. Besides that, a "second quest" was added with the term "case study" to refine the results. We found out that China, India, South Africa and Brazil have been studying solutions for the CO 2 emissions by employing different environmental management practices. In addition, in the studies on China, India and Brazil, environmental management practices recurrently approached topics concerning the supply and water quality, the regulatory standards of environmental management and the practice of Green Supply Chain Management. However, we did not find papers concerning the environmental management practices in Russia through the employed methodology. We concluded that China, India and Brazil tend to present papers on the issue of environmental management (in English and in the database, from which they were gathered) because these countries show a more sustainable development, thus publishing a higher number of researches in this field, whereas Russia and South Africa do not follow this trend due to a weaker environmental engagement. With regard to that, it is suggested that further studies investigate the environmental management practices in other developing and developed countries, which would allow to draw a comparison with other groups. The subject of our research is the environmental management practices (EMPs) adopted by small and medium-sized hotel enterprises (SMHEs) to foster the development of sustainable business models. The aim is to analyse operational, communication and organizational practices and to explore whether or not the availability of public incentives encourages SMHEs to adopt EMPs, and, if it does, how. We use a framework based on a multi-dimensional approach according to the classification proposed by González-Benito and González-Benito (2006) and we add a supplementary variable (access to subsidies) to capture the importance of the public actor. The research was carried out in Trentino, a traditional tourist destination in the Italian Alpine Arc. We received 351 completed online questionnaires, of which 247 were considered valid. The data were analysed using Principle Component Analysis (PCA) applied to a polychoric correlation matrix. The PCA evidences three relevant latent dimensions which summarized more than 72% of the sample variance. The results demonstrate that the SMHEs adopted three different sets of EMPs, and that the role of public actor is crucial for financing the most expensive operational activities. The research narrows the knowledge gap with regard to a) the types of EMPs adopted by the SMHEs, b) the methods used to achieve this implementation. With the deterioration of the environment and the shortage of natural resources, firms are facing increasing pressures to implement environmental management practices in their daily operation management. Drawing on institutional theory and environmental management literatures, this research tries to explore how institutional pressures motivate firms to implement environmental management practices, and how such effects are moderated by firms' environmental commitment and resource availability. The results of a survey of 188 Chinese firms suggest that regulatory pressures and normative pressures are positively and significantly related to firms' propensity to implement environmental management practices. Moreover, the results indicate that firms' environmental commitment positively moderates the relationships between institutional pressures and environmental management practices, while firms' resource availability plays different roles depending on the types of pressure (regulatory or normative pressures). The hospitality sector has been under pressure to ensure that its operations are environmentally sustainable. The effective implementation of green practices requires a link between environmental strategies, management accounting and control. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to explain how management control systems support the internalisation of green ideals within an organisation. A case study is undertaken of a hotel that promoted its green image, using Dambrin, Lambert and Sponem's (2007) framework to understand the use of Management Control Systems in the internalisation process of the green philosophy of the hotel. The internalisation of the hotel's Environmental Management Practices (EMPs) started with the introduction of the ideal of becoming a green hotel, which was translated and communicated through the notion of a business case.
