Environmental intelligence is developed through educational goals that promote understanding of the impact that human activity has on the environment and active participation in its conservation. In the constructive-technological education this includes developing respect for animals, plants, water resources and other elements of nature, as well as the realization of their importance for human well-being. Environmental intelligence is developed through participation in hands-on activities that promote environmental protection. This can include recycling materials, making products from waste products, understanding the meaning and importance of saving natural resources, participating in green initiatives such as planting trees, and more. The formation of environmental intelligence should be an educational priority from an early age. It is appropriate to start this process already in preschool, when children have a huge potential for development, a desire to learn by exploring and exploring the world. The formation of environmental intelligence in kindergarten children can have a positive impact in many aspects. Their involvement in various activities related to nature provokes respect and a desire to care for the environment. Activities related to learning about the natural world provoke research interest and curiosity, which later develop into a natural inclination to creativity and non-standard thinking. Learning about plant and animal species, first knowledge of ecosystems and natural phenomena helps them understand the importance of nature and teaches them how to respect and protect it. Time spent outdoors has a beneficial effect on children's physical and mental health. The article examines the possible relationship between ecological intelligence and the competence-based approach to technology and entrepreneurship education. Environmental intelligence and the competence approach in technology and entrepreneurship education are extremely important for modern education. These concepts focus on developing students who are not only competent in the use of technology and in entrepreneurial skills, but also understand and appreciate the impact of technology on the environment and are committed to sustainable entrepreneurship. Environmental intelligence generally refers to students' ability to understand and appreciate the relationship between human activity and the environment. This includes understanding environmental issues such as air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, and more. Students learn how to develop and implement technologies and entrepreneurial projects that are environmentally friendly and help preserve and restore it. A competence-based approach to technology and entrepreneurship education focuses on developing real-world skills and acquiring knowledge that is applicable in the real world. This includes skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Students not only learn how to use different technologies and tools to create products and services, but also how to use them to solve environmental problems and create sustainable business models. Integrating an environmental intelligence and competency approach into technology and entrepreneurship education helps students become not only successful entrepreneurs, but also responsible citizens who care about the environment and society as a whole. Wind lore constitutes an important domain of environmental knowledge in eight cultures of southern Vanuatu (Aneityum, Futuna, Aniwa, Nafe, Naka, Netwar, Nanu, and Nahual). Our study reviews previous studies in Oceania which document wind systems as used primarily for long-distance navigation. The named winds of southern Vanuatu are not merely abstract directional markers, nor primarily for use in navigation, but are closely tied to the local geography, agriculture, health, and seasonal changes. Winds are part of everyday, embodied experience and cognitive-spiritual understanding of the environment. Wind lore is gradually being forgotten, but can still be described in detail by experts. We conclude by situating wind lore within a culture complex that includes knowledge of agriculture, fishing, time-reckoning, and weather magic. Africa is currently faced with complex conflict situations and confronted with difficult choices to rebuild economies based on business-as-usual development models or choose to develop more sustainably. Addressing security-sustainability challenges in Africa therefore calls for innovative ways to avoid that armed conflicts and insecurity set back efforts towards achieving sustainable development in Africa by 2030. The paper introduces the concept of Environmental Intelligence for Sustainability (EIS) as an analytical tool to assess security-sustainability risks in Africa. It shows how the EIS framework helps analyze the implications of armed conflicts on achieving sustainability through a pragmatic instrument for African policy makers, development practitioners, businesses, and regional/international organizations to better integrate conflict risks into their sustainability planning processes. The article highlights the need for a more holistic, systematic, and coordinated Africa-wide Environmental Intelligence for Sustainability as a core element for building peace and stability while achieving sustainability by 2030. Science advisory groups have long played significant roles in federal policy- and decision-making. This article examines the history and importance of science advisory groups in conducting research and advising government administrations on matters of climate change risks and environmental security. Climate change will continue to act as a threat multiplier, amplifying these risks and their effects on security and society. The government science advisory group MEDEA and its contributions to environmental research and national, societal, and environmental security analysis are presented as a model of partnership between the scientific and intelligence communities. The history, research, and environmental expertise of the MEDEA program are discussed in the security context, including an examination of its relationship with the intelligence community. Children activity recognition (CAR) is a subject for which numerous works have been developed in recent years, most of them focused on monitoring and safety. Commonly, these works use as data source different types of sensors that can interfere with the natural behavior of children, since these sensors are embedded in their clothes. This article proposes the use of environmental sound data for the creation of a children activity classification model, through the development of a deep artificial neural network (ANN). Initially, the ANN architecture is proposed, specifying its parameters and defining the necessary values for the creation of the classification model. The ANN is trained and tested in two ways: using a 70–30 approach (70% of the data for training and 30% for testing) and with a k-fold cross-validation approach. According to the results obtained in the two validation processes (70–30 splitting and k-fold cross validation), the ANN with the proposed architecture achieves an accuracy of 94.51% and 94.19%, respectively, which allows to conclude that the developed model using the ANN and its proposed architecture achieves significant accuracy in the children activity classification by analyzing environmental sound.

Emerging IoT (Internet of Things) technologies have enjoyed tremendous success in a variety of applications. Since sensors in IoT consume a lot of energy to transmit their data, data compression used to prolong system lifetime has become a hot research topic. In many real-world applications, such as IEI (IoT of environmental intelligence), the required sensing data usually have limited error tolerance according to the QoS2 (quality of sensor service) or QoD (quality of decision-making) required. However, the bounded-error-pruned sensor data can achieve higher data correlation for better compression without jeopardizing QoS2/QoD. Moreover, the sensing data in widely spread sensors usually have strong temporal and spatial correlations. We thus propose a BESDC (bounded-error-pruned sensor data compression) scheme to achieve better leverage between the bounded error and compression ratio for sensor data. In this paper, our experiments on a sensor network of two-tier tree architecture consider four different environmental datasets including PM 2.5, CO, temperature and seismic wave with different scales of bounded errors. With the bounded errors required by the given IEI applications, our BESDC can reduce the total size of data transmission to minimize both energy consumption in sensor-tier devices and storage of fog-tier servers. The experimental results demonstrate that our BESDC can reduce transmission data by over 55% and save 50% energy consumption when assigning 1% of error tolerance within QoS2/QoD requirement. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed BESDC scheme can help other energy-efficient IoT schemes applying network topologies and routing protocols to further enhance energy-efficient IoT services. Environmental education takes an important part of the pedagogical work in the class time. It is oriented towards formation of the environmental culture, environmental mindset, environmental behavior, and the connection between them. This article looks at the definition and the main characteristics of the environmental education in Europe and Bulgaria. The defined by the European educational policy priorities are being reviewed together with the integration of the environmental education in the education of sustainable development. Main focus is on the teaching of knowledge and concepts, development of intelligence and competencies for understanding the environment, behavioral models to protect it, together with the principles on which these models are based. The main goals of the environmental education in Europe and Bulgaria are reviewed. The main themes and areas for environmental education, defined in the documentation of the Ministry of Education and Science, are described. The five main areas of environmental competency are reviewed: water, soil, and air; energy and climate; bio diversity; consumption and waste; society and environment. The article provides a number of new pedagogical challenges for the class time. They also include innovative methods of education. There is a special attention for interactive and active learning, learning through transfer of knowledge and capabilities, situated learning and authentic tasks, integrated teaching and critical thinking. It is also described a model for structuring the educational content, which includes 6 themes: “I can”, “Together we can do more”, “Green and clean classroom”, “Green and clean school”, “Saving energy”, “Аn environmental festive day”, “Waste in the classroom”. Digital terrain models (DTM) were produced with the structure from motion (SfM) technique, using data from high resolution terrestrial photography. In addition 360-degree spheres were created from ground taken photos. These spheres allow capturing the environment at this moment and coming back to the environment virtually later on. Also overlapping this virtual realty of the environment with model results can be used for distributing study results to a broad audience. On this basis hydraulic and morphological conditions were assessed and compared to field records. The proposed methods enable the creation of a detailed view on different riverine systems, i.e. from small to large rivers. This enables a morphodynamic characterisation which can be linked with the biological dataset of the monitoring project REFCOND_VOLGA. We propose that environmental intelligence gathering using ground-based as well as remote sensing observations can be applied increase the scope of scientific surveillance, and can lead to new opportunities to detect and quantify complex ecological interactions across a wide spectrum of scales.

This article presents a comparison of two proposals for how to conceive of the evolution of non-organic intelligence. One is Valentino Braitenberg’s 1984 essay ‘Vehicles: Experiments in Synthetic Psychology’. The other is the Strandbeesten (beach animals) of Dutch engineer-artist Theo Jansen. Jansen’s beach animals are not robots. Yet, as semi-autonomous non-organic agents created by humans, they are interesting in the context of the development of robots for how they present an ecological approach to the design of non-organic intelligence. Placing Braitenberg’s and Jansen’s approaches side by side illuminates how Jansen’s approach implies a radically different take than Braitenberg’s on non-organic intelligence, on intelligence as environmental, and on what the relationship between agency and behaviour might comprise.

RESUMEN La aplicación de las tecnologías digitales en todos los ámbitos de la vida humana está provocando la aparición de una nueva manera de entender el espacio arquitectónico derivado de su integración en él. Ello se puede extrapolar a la arquitectura más íntimamente ligada al habitar humano, la de la vivienda. Para ello se establecen una serie de paralelismos conceptuales con aquel otro momento clave en la evolución del espacio doméstico ocurrido a finales del siglo XX en el que los objetos técnicos cobraron protagonismo sobre el espacio que los albergaba. Estos paralelismos se fundamentan en el cambio de estatus sufrido por dichos objetos, hoy ya terminales de información conectados en red e implementados tanto en los espacios naturales y artificiales como en la propia persona y su vestimenta, sin olvidar los profundos cambios sufridos por el sujeto actual y sus relaciones sociales. En base a ello, se ilustra la evolución que ha sufrido el concepto de “espacio residencial” ligada a los nuevos modos de habitar contemporáneos. SUMMARY The application of digital technologies in all areas of human life is causing the emergence of a new way of understanding our integration with architectural space. This can be extrapolated to the architectural design that is most closely linked to humans – our homes. A series of conceptual parallels are established with the other key moment in the development of domestic space that happened at the end of the 20th century when technical objects became more important than the space that housed them. These parallels are based on the change of status suffered by these objects when they were converted into networked information terminals and implemented in natural and artificial spaces (such as on the person and their clothing). People and their social relations have also suffered profound changes. This article illustrates the changes in the concept of ‘residential space’ linked to new ways of occupying habitats.

Due to key role of parent companies in directing subsidiaries and their huge under-management investments, awareness of changes in external environment as well as sufficient feel of subsidiaries are very crucial in group overall success. So it is essential that the research area of intelligence which was conventionally centralized around single-business companies emerges this time with regard to parent companies environmental implications and their interrelated information needs called in this article as Parental Intelligence or Corporate Parent Intelligence which studying its dimensions and elements are targeted here. The population of the study in qualitative segment includes academics and executive proficients and in quantitative segment includes experts and managers of parent companies and other knowledgeable individuals. The qualitative method used is content analysis and confirmatory factor analysis is exploited in quantitative area. The results of research ultimately confirmed 32 elements in 6 groups contributing to Parental Intelligence.

Culture and globalization are intertwined and mutually conditioned not only due to the common culture interaction, but also primarily because of technological transfers shaping the global economy. The entire social development is thus adapted to various cultures and to culture in general. Perceived from one perspective, the market and globalization affect the culture in a negative manner. As a set of permanent material and immaterial values and human creations, culture, as such, is exposed to a multitude of problem, countercultural and degrading processes stemming from conflicts of interest and, sometimes, from very rapid changes and uncritically accepted innovations, forms and standards. In that sense, degradation of culture can cause deterioration of the quality of economic activity.

Mobile social robots aimed at interacting with and assisting humans in pedestrian areas need to understand the dynamics of pedestrian social interaction. In this work, we investigate the effect of interaction on pedestrian group motion by defining three motion models to represent (1) interpersonal-distance, (2) relative orientation and (3) absolute difference of velocities; and model them using a dataset of 12000+ pedestrian trajectories recorded in uncontrolled settings. Our contributions include: (i) Demonstrating that interaction has a prominent effect on the empirical distributions of the proposed joint motion attributes, where increasing levels of interaction lead to more regular behavior (ii) Developing analytic motion models of such distributions and reflect the effect of interaction on model parameters (iii) Detecting the social groups in a crowd with almost perfect accuracy utilizing the proposed models, despite the constant flow direction in the environment which causes unrelated pedestrians to move in a correlated way, and thus makes group recognition more difficult (iv) Estimating the level of intensity with considerable rates utilizing the proposed models [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article was to characterise and compare the level of environmental intelligence among university students from selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This was done using empirical data collected by the author in 2015. In the introduction and theoretical part of this text, the term ‘environmental intelligence’ is defined, and issues raised by modern sociologists such as M. Maffesoli and M. Archer are presented. Two hypotheses stating that respondents from Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic have higher levels of environmental intelligence than university students from the Ukraine, and those studying natural sciences have higher levels of environmental intelligence than students of the humanities or social sciences were verified. The statistical analysis conducted in the second part of the text revealed a higher level of environmental intelligence among students from the European Union countries compared to respondents from the Ukraine. However, there were no significant differences between the level of environmental intelligence and respondents’ faculty of studies. This indicates that studying natural sciences did not contribute to a more dynamic development of environmental intelligence in students. O objetivo deste artigo é lançar luzes sobre as implicações da mudança climática para as organizações. Para fazer frente a esse debate, são explorados: o conceito de "inteligência ambiental" (IA); as estratégias por meio das quais as organizações fazem frente ao desafio da mudança climática; as oportunidades que explicam a adoção dessas estratégias; e o papel fornecido pela função produção para que tais estratégias possuam o efeito desejado. Por fim, tais conceitos são sistematizados, buscando-se uma integração dos modelos teóricos existentes, até então considerados de maneira estanque.The aim of this paper is to enlighten the implications of climate change for organizations. To deal with this subject, the follow issues are analyzed: concept of environmental intelligence; opportunities which justify the adoption of these strategies, and the main role performed by the production function to implement such strategies. Finally, concepts of prior theoretical models are taken into account.

Behaviour-based robotics is a paradigm that was proposed by Rodney Brooks in 1986. This paradigm proposes that robotic solutions should be developed by combining various reactive behaviours in an architecture. This survey overviews various biologically inspired source-seeking and multi-agent algorithms that could be combined in a behavior-based architecture towards providing visual concentration or profile information of invisible hazardous pollutants in dangerous environments. The need for this becomes even more necessary when hazardous substances that cannot be observed by human eyes are present in the environment. An example of such a scenario was the nuclear disaster caused by a Tsunami in Japan in 2011. Causalities from this disaster event could have been greatly reduced if the concentration profile of the resulting invisible pollution and radiation was made visible by using a swarm of flying microrobots. This paper presents the first complete approach to achieving environmental intelligence support in the management of vegetation within electrical power transmission corridors. Contrary to the related studies that focused on the mapping of power lines, together with encroaching vegetation risk assessment, we realised predictive analytics with vegetation growth simulation. This was achieved by following the JDL/DFIG data fusion model for complementary feature extraction from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) derived data products and auxiliary thematic maps that feed an ensemble regression model. The results indicate that improved vegetation growth prediction accuracy is obtained by segmenting training samples according to their contextual similarities that relate to their ecological niches. Furthermore, efficient situation assessment was then performed using a rasterised parametrically defined funnel-shaped volumetric filter. In this way, R M S E ≈ 1 m was measured when considering tree growth simulation, while a 0.37 m error was estimated in encroaching vegetation detection, demonstrating significant improvements over the field observations.
