Hedgefonder är ett hett investeringsverktyg, specielltnui en tid präglad av låga räntor. Envanligtförekommande uppfattning är atthedgefonder skagenerera överavkastning;det faktum att de historiskt har kunnat verka under generösaregleringsformer är en av flera anledningar tillatt gemene man har högt ställda förväntningar på hedgefonder som investeringsform. Frågan är dock vad som händer med överavkastningen-vilket är varje investerares primära angelägenhet –om regleringarna stramas åt? Syftet med studien är därför att undersöka hur hedgefonder påverkas av ett minskat handlingsutrymme, det villsäga en ökad grad av reglering. Studien mäter hedgefonders överavkastning, i termer av alfa, med hjälp av Fama och Frenchs trefaktormodell, före och efter den omfattande reformen The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Uppsatsens data indikerar på att överavkastningen, alfa, är signifikant lägre i perioden efter införandet av reformen. Studienpåvisar även att strategierna, Event Driven och Multistrategi, har lägre överavkastning efter implementeringen av Dodd-Frank Act, medanssamma effekt inte kunde konstaterasförLång/Kort-strategin.

Dedicated experiments to generate energetic D ions and D−3He fusion-born alpha particles were performed at the Joint European Torus (JET) with the ITER-like wall (ILW). Using the 3-ion D-(DNBI)-3He radio frequency (RF) heating scenario, deuterium ions from neutral beam injection (NBI) were accelerated in the core of mixed D−3He plasmas to higher energies with ion cyclotron resonance frequency (ICRF) waves, in turn leading to a core-localized source of alpha particles. The fast-ion distribution of RF-accelerated D-NBI ions was controlled by varying the ICRF and NBI power (P_{ICRF}≈4-6 MW, P_{NBI}≈3-20 MW), resulting in rather high D-D neutron (≈1×10^16/s) and D−3He alpha rates (≈2×10^16/s) at moderate input heating power. Theory and TRANSP analysis shows that large populations of co-passing MeV-range D ions were generated using the D−(DNBI)−3He 3-ion ICRF scenario. This important result is corroborated by several experimental observations, in particular gamma-ray measurements. The developed experimental scenario at JET provides unique conditions for probing several aspects of future burning plasmas, such as the contribution from MeV range ions to global confinement, but without introducing tritium. Dominant fast-ion core electron heating with T_i≈T_e and a rich variety of fast-ion driven Alfven eigenmodes (AEs) were observed in these D−3He plasmas. The observed AE activities do not have a detrimental effect on the thermal confinement and, in some cases, may be driven by the fusion born alpha particles. A strong continuous increase in neutron rate was observed during long-period sawteeth (>1 s), accompanied by the observation of reversed shear AEs, which implies that a non-monotonic q profile was systematically developed in these plasmas, sustained by the large fast-ion populations generated by the 3-ion ICRF scenario.

In this contribution we present OES measurements in the JET tokamak of the deuterated NH (ND) radical and the correlation between results of those experiments and measurement of ammonia production. The observation region covers most of the divertor and its outer throat. Measurements are performed in different magnetic configurations. The results include temporal and spatial dependence of the molecular emission intensity and study of the emission band shape (vibrational and rotational temperatures) during different JET pulses, with or without nitrogen seeding. Results are a step towards the understanding of nitrogen-containing molecule creation and destruction in the divertor plasma. JET ITER-like wall (ILW) experiments show that the edge density evolution is strongly linked with the poloidal distribution of the ionization source. The fueling profile in the JET-ILW is more delocalized as compared to JET-C (JET with carbon-based plasma-facing components PFCs). Compared to JET-C the H-mode pedestal fueling cycle is dynamically influenced by a combination of plasma-wall interaction features, in particular: (1) edge-localized modes (ELMs) induced energetic particles are kinetically reflected on W divertor PFCs leading to distributed refueling away from the divertor depending on the divertor plasma configuration, (2) delayed molecular re-emission and outgassing of particles being trapped in W PFCs (bulk-W at the high field side and W-coated CFCs at the low field side) with different fuel content and (3) outgassing from Be co-deposits located on top of the high-field side baffle region shortly after the ELM. In view of the results of a set of well diagnosed series of JET-ILW type-I ELMy H-mode discharges with good statistics, the aforementioned effects are discussed in view of H-mode pedestal fueling capacity. The ongoing modelling activities with the focus on coupled core-edge plasma simulations and plasma-wall interaction are described and discussed also in view of possible code improvements required. In this paper we discuss results from the study of the energy balance in JET based on calculated heating energies, radiated energy from bolometry and tile calorimetry. Recent data enables us to be more confident in the numbers used and to exclude certain possibilities but the overall energy imbalance which typically amounts to 25% of total input remains unexplained. This shows that caution is required in interpreting fractional radiated powers which are commonly used to measure the effectiveness of impurity seeded scenarios at reducing divertor heat load. This study gives an overview of why violence is applied so often in RPGs. It features a breakdown of the RPG-genre and reflects upon how violence is commonly used to create challenge in a game. The study will also bring attention to the psychology of rewards and discuss how game mechanics can encourage players to act in the most rewarding way. The study also conducts a research by creating an artefact and qualitative interviews to test the research question; is it the challenge or the violence itself that is the determining factor for conflict resolution in RPGs? This research concludes that there are several factors that influence the player’s decision making outside when choosing either a challenging or a violent path. Factors such as a narrative, character representation and the aspect of game flow in accordance with the game genre also seem to be of higher importance than expected at first glance.

Content The High Resolution Neutron Spectrometer (HRNS) system for ITER is an array of neutron spectrometers with the primary function to provide measurements of the fuel ion ratio, nT/nD, in the plasma core. Supplementary functions are to assist or provide information on fuel ion temperature and energy distributions of fuel ions and confined alpha-particles. The ITER requirement for the HRNS primary function is to obtain nT/nD with 20% uncertainty and a time resolution of 100 ms. In this contribution, a conceptual HRNS system design and its measurement performance for nT/nD will be presented. The HRNS system studied, is based on established instrumental techniques and its performance is assessed using realistic response functions for the individual spectrometers in the system. The main interfacing requirements for the HRNS is a 10 cm diameter aperture in the ITER first wall, tapered collimation resulting in a neutron flux in the order of 1099 n/cm22/s on an area of 12 cm22 at a distance of 16 m from the first wall. For optimum use of the available neutron flux, the system is divided into two sections; "low efficiency" neutron spectrometers in the front and "high efficiency" in the rear. Also investigated is to use an adjustable collimator between the front and rear spectrometers in order to enhance the dynamic range and overlap of the two sections. For the combination of neutron spectrometers presented here, it is shown that the system fulfills the ITER requirement, on nT/nD, over an order of magnitude in fusion power, 50 < Pfus < 500 MW. In the performance study, contributions due to neutron scattering in the vessel walls, collimator and beam dump are included together with a neutron induced gamma background.

There is experimental evidence that the pedestal dynamics in type-I ELMy H-mode discharges is significantly affected by a change in the recycling conditions at the tungsten plasma-facing components (W-PFCs) after an ELM event. The integrated code JINTRAC has been employed to assess the impact of recycling conditions during type-I ELMs in JET ITER-like wall H-mode discharges. By employing a heuristic approach, a model to mimic the physical processes leading to formation and release (i.e. outgassing) of finite near-surface fuel reservoirs in W-PFCs has been implemented into the EDGE2D-EIRENE plasma-wall interaction code being part of JINTRAC. As main result it is shown, that a delay in the density pedestal build-up after an ELM event can be provoked by reduced recycling induced by depleted W-PFC particle near-surface reservoirs. However the pedestal temperature evolution is barely affected by the change in recycling parameters suggesting that the presented model is incomplete. A global signature of the build-up to an intrinsic edge localized mode (ELM) is found in the temporal analytic phase of signals measured in full flux azimuthal loops in the divertor region of JET. Toroidally integrating, full flux loop signals provide a global measurement proportional to the voltage induced by changes in poloidal magnetic flux; they are electromagnetically induced by the dynamics of spatially integrated current density. We perform direct time-domain analysis of the high time-resolution full flux loop signals VLD2 and VLD3. We analyze plasmas where a steady H-mode is sustained over several seconds during which all the observed ELMs are intrinsic; there is no deliberate intent to pace the ELMing process by external means. ELM occurrence times are determined from the Be II emission at the divertor. We previously [ Chapman et al., Phys. Plasmas 21, 062302 (2014); Chapman et al., in 41st EPS Conference on Plasma Physics, Europhysics Conference Abstracts (European Physical Society, 2014), Vol. 38F, ISBN 2-914771-90-8] found that the occurrence times of intrinsic ELMs correlate with specific temporal analytic phases of the VLD2 and VLD3 signals. Here, we investigate how the VLD2 and VLD3 temporal analytic phases vary with time in advance of the ELM occurrence time. We identify a build-up to the ELM in which the VLD2 and VLD3 signals progressively align to the temporal analytic phase at which ELMs preferentially occur, on a similar to 2 - 5ms timescale. At the same time, the VLD2 and VLD3 signals become temporally phase synchronized with each other, consistent with the emergence of coherent global dynamics in the integrated current density. In a plasma that remains close to a global magnetic equilibrium, this can reflect bulk displacement or motion of the plasma. This build-up signature to an intrinsic ELM can be extracted from a time interval of data that does not extend beyond the ELM occurrence time, so that these full flux loop signals could assist in ELM prediction or mitigation. It is possible to obtain information about various properties of the fuel ions deuterium (D) and tritium (T) in a fusion plasma by measuring the neutron emission from the plasma. Neutrons are produced in fusion reactions between the fuel ions, which means that the intensity and energy spectrum of the emitted neutrons are related to the densities and velocity distributions of these ions. This thesis describes different methods for analyzing data from fusion neutron measurements. The main focus is on neutron spectrometry measurements, using data used collected at the tokamak fusion reactor JET in England. Several neutron spectrometers are installed at JET, including the time-of-flight spectrometer TOFOR and the magnetic proton recoil (MPRu) spectrometer. Part of the work is concerned with the calculation of neutron spectra from given fuel ion distributions. Most fusion reactions of interest – such as the D + T and D + D reactions – have two particles in the final state, but there are also examples where three particles are produced, e.g. in the T + T reaction. Both two- and three-body reactions are considered in this thesis. A method for including the finite Larmor radii of the fuel ions in the spectrum calculation is also developed. This effect was seen to significantly affect the shape of the measured TOFOR spectrum for a plasma scenario utilizing ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) in combination with neutral beam injection (NBI). Using the capability to calculate neutron spectra, it is possible to set up different parametric models of the neutron emission for various plasma scenarios. In this thesis, such models are used to estimate the fuel ion density in NBI heated plasmas and the fast D distribution in plasmas with ICRH.

Neutrons produced in fusion reactions in a magnetically confined plasma carry information about the distributions and densities of the fuel ions in the plasma. This thesis presents work where various theoretical models of different fuel ion distributions in the plasma are used to calculate modeled components of the neutron energy spectrum. The calculated components can then be compared with measured data, either to benchmark and validate the model or to derive various plasma parameters from the experimental data. Neutron spectra measured with the spectrometers TOFOR and the MPR, which are both installed at the JET tokamak in England, are used for this purpose. The thesis is based on three papers. The first paper presents the analysis of TOFOR data from plasmas heated with neutral beams and radio frequency waves tuned to the third harmonic of the deuterium cyclotron frequency, which creates fast (supra thermal) ions in the MeV range. It is found that effects of the finite Larmor radii of the fast ions need to be included in the modeling in order to understand the data. These effects are important for fast ion measurements if there is a gradient in the fast ion distribution function with a scale length that is comparable to - or smaller than - the width of the field of view of the measuring instrument, and if this scale length is comparable to - or smaller than - the Larmor radii of the fast ions. The second paper presents calculations of the neutron energy spectrum from the T(t,n)4He reaction, for JET relevant fuel ion distributions. This is to to form a starting point for the investigation of the possibility to obtain fast ion information from the t-t neutron spectrum, in a possible future deuterium-tritium campaign at JET. The t-t spectrum is more challenging to analyze than the d-d and d-t cases, since this reaction has three (rather than two) particles in the final state, which results in a broad continuum of neutron energies rather than a peak. However, the presence of various final state interactions - in particular between the neutron and the 4He - might still allow for spectrometry analysis. Finally, in Paper III, a method to derive the fuel ion ratio, nt/nd, is presented and applied to MPR data from the JET d-t campaign in 1997. The trend in the results are consistent with Penning trap measurements of the fuel ion ratio at the plasma edge, but the absolute numbers are not the same. Measuring the fuel ion ratio in the core plasma is an important task for fusion research, and also a very complicated one. Future work should aim at measuring this quantity in several independent ways, which should then be cross checked against each other.
