In questa case history Virtualgeo presenta la sua soluzione per diffondere l’uso delle nuove tecnologie geomatiche a supporto del turismo grazie a un WebGIS ricco di funzionalità. La realizzazione di un percorso turistico digitale auspica di fornire possibili suggerimenti all’interno del processo di adeguamento tecnologico perseguito dalle municipalità. In this case study Virtualgeo presents its solution to spread the use of new geomatics technologies to support tourism through a webGIS that is rich of features. The creation of a tourist route through digital technology-based processing tools hopes to provide possible suggestions in the process of technological updating pursued by the municipalities of Eastern Venice, providing those simple solutions that become more and more "necessary" in an era constructed through the network. The created webGIS is a tourist product that is useful for the institutions directly concerned with the promotion of the territory; for the "natives", i.e. the citizens who often know little the area where they live, and for the eco-tourists visiting this wonderful land. The webGIS should not be neglected as an extraordinary tool of knowledge of the area (cultural heritage, landscape, environment) for teaching in schools of all levels.

Eppure devono poter essere visti e fruiti dal maggior numero di persone possibile, perché solo così assolvono ad un compito importante: divulgare e tramandare alle generazioni future la conoscenza, la bellezza e l’arte del passato. Una possibile soluzione è affidarsi a un “intermediario”, come può essere una copia immateriale (digitale), perfettamente fedele all’originale, grazie a cui sia semplice avvicinarsie comprendere l’opera, esplorandola da punti di vista inediti, arrivando a osservarne i minimi dettagli. 3D Survey of “Amplexus in Aere” Often it happens that art masterpieces are weak and can’t be easily available to the public, or it happens that they are accessible to the public but without the visibility and valorization they deserve. Yet they should be seen and appreciated by asmany people as possible because, only then, they performan important task: disclosing and transmitting knowledge,beauty, and art of the past to the future generations. A possible solution is an "intermediary", such a digital true copy of the original, thanks to which it’s easy to approach and understand the work of art, explore it by new points of view until the infinitesimal details.

The morphological knowledge of the territory, bothin its surface and subterranean aspects, is the main premise to all decision-making procedures as well as all planning and management activities. Knowledge takes shape into reliable precise and complete thematic cartography and databases, whichare necessary for anybody dealing withunderground contexts: speleologists, scientists, public administrations, managing authorities etc. Surveys in caves are normally carried out withtraditional techniques and instruments, whichare essential for a first representation but not enoughfor a pragmatic effective topographic approach. Laser scanning technique can be an alternative to the traditional systems. Laser scanning quickly acquires the shape of cavities as “point clouds” (x, y, z coordinates and colour values) and produces a highprecision database of the surveyed object. Laser scanning technology is therefore a feasible way to document caves in a precise exhaustive way, limiting risks relating to lack and/or inadequacy of data. The present paper explains the laser scanning survey carried out in San Giovanni mine near Iglesias (Sardinia, Italy), particularly in Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara 2 caves, the data post-processing and three-dimensional modelling of “point clouds” (operations performed witha dedicated software), and the use of the obtained digital model. Moreover, the paper describes the advantages of laser scanning for the hypogean survey in comparison to traditional methods and the future potentialities of a broad application of laser scanning instruments in caves.
