Vocabulary access in L1 and L2 of French-Turkish bilingual children in France aged 6 to 10 years. Many researches on bilingualism of children from immigrant families show low is their vocabulary in L1 and L2 compared to their monolingual peers (Zablit & Trudeau, 2008; Treffers-Daller et al., 2007). This paper precisely focuses on vocabulary access in Turkish (L1) and French (L2) in oral production and comprehension of French-Turkish bilingual children at first, third and fifth grades at a primary school in France, in comparison with their monolingual French and Turkish peers. To do this, the German test Wortschatz- und Wortfindungstest für 6- bis 10-Jährige (Glück, 2011) was used. The results of bilinguals show a better level in L1 in the first grade and then a notable amelioration in L2 in the third grade and that the lexical gaps between the two languages is significantly reduced in the fifth grade. In the linguistic repertoire of bilinguals’, phenomena as interference, interlanguage as well as transformation of L1 with borrowings from L2 was observed. Although bilinguals’ total vocabulary is lower in the first grade, this delay is caught up in the third grade. According to the Pearson et al., (1993) correlation coefficient, there is a strong and positive correlation between two languages: the more we promote L1 development, the more we promote L2.

This article presents the results of a quantitative survey carried out with the participation of 52 students in the Department of French Language Teaching at Atatürk Faculty of Education of Marmara University in Istanbul. This study questions the language learning strategies of bachelors and master degree students before and during online education. Unexpectedly confronted with a change of situation in education, the students found themselves overnight having to follow an online way of studying to which they were unfamiliar with over the night. Not only strategic, technical, technological, organizational and spatial but also psychological and sociological adaptation were immediately necessary. This study highlights the language learning strategies of students based on four main axes: the first one is based on cognitive strategies, the second one emphasizes metacognitive strategies, the third one is on effective strategies and the fourth and the last one is on resource management strategies. The aim is to understand the development of student learning practices during online education, and to understand the new strategies put in place by the students themselves in order to adapt to this new way of teaching. Have they stuck to their familiar language learning strategies or have they developed new language learning strategies? We tried to understand whether the students continued studying using the same language learning strategies as before during online education or not, and whether they readjusted, modified, developed their learning strategies as needed., Bu makale, İstanbul’da bulunan Marmara Üniversitesi Atatürk Eğitim Fakültesinde yer alan Fransız Dili ve Eğitimi Bölümündeki 52 öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiş nicel tipi bir anketin sonuçlarını ele almaktadır.

Digital education integrates information and communication technologies to provide innovative learning methods. Introduction of new tools during the pandemic lockdown makes us inquire the question of innovations in digital education and the many resulting changes. We can now express that the teachers’ role and their traditional duties are no longer the same. From this point of view, some questions have been raised: Do new distance education models have an impact on the role of the teacher? How do relevant new distance education models affect teaching? What are the new skills that need to be known and applied in order to respond to the ever-evolving educational methods? This study will include a review of developments in digital education together with the transformations in the teacher’s role. In order to emphasize the changes that occurred during the quarantine and to draw attention to important developments such as the role of teachers and monitoring, the use of technology in the 21st century and the models proposed in the field of education will be explained in our study. The research is concerned with the development of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) that supports the connectionist pedagogy by encouraging the emergence of a new teacher profile as well as the transformations in its role. To do so, four roles that define today’s teacher are described: organizer; collaborator; researcher; modeler. Based on the research, it is possible to say that each of the teachers can assume multiple roles: sometimes an organizer and/or a collaborator, sometimes a researcher and/or a modeler and vice versa. Unlike the classic model of past, it is a question of transformation/change but above all, it also includes the concern arising from significant and accelerated transformations with the gradual shifting of the teacher’s role towards pedagogical-digital qualification. - Abstract
Background: Although paucigranulocytic asthma (PGA) is the most common phenotype of stable asthma, its features have not been adequately studied. In this study, we aimed to display the characteristics of PGA. Method: A total of 116 non-smoking adult patients with asthma (80% women; mean ± standard deviation age, 39 ± 12.9 years) admitted to three tertiary centers were included. Their demographic and clinical features, allergy status, biochemical results, scores of Asthma Control Test (ACT), spirometry, and exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) measurements were obtained. Induced sputum cytometry was performed. Results: Four phenotypes, according to induced sputum cell counts, were detected: eosinophilic asthma (EA) (22.4%), mixed granulocytic asthma (MGA) (6.9%), neutrophilic (NA) (7.8%), and PGA (62.9%). In the sputum, macrophages were higher in the PGA group compared with the other groups (PGA versus NA and PGA versus MGA, p < 0.001; and PGA versus EA, p =0 .030). The atopy rate between phenotypes was the same. Although the forced expiratory volume in the first second of expiration (FEV
1 ) was similar in four groups, the ratio of FEV1 to the forced vital capacity ratio was higher (p = 0.013) and FEV1 reversibility was lower in the patients with PGA than the corresponding values in other phenotypes ( p = 0.015). Low reversibility was comparable both in patients with PGA who were inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) naive and in patients on ICS treatment. Although insignificant, the FeNO values and blood eosinophil counts were higher in the MGA and EA groups, whereas these were the lowest in the PGA group. The uncontrolled asthma ratio was low in PGA (16%), whereas it was 11% for NA, 25% for MG, and 23% in EA. Conclusion: Macrophages are predominant in sputum of patients with PGA. Besides a lower uncontrolled asthma ratio, lower FEV1 reversibility is a prominent characteristic of this phenotype.- Published

- Abstract
Background: Tree pollens are well-known aeroallergens all over the world. Little is known about the allergenicity of Morus alba (white mulberry) pollen., Objecive: We aimed to explore the potential allergens of this pollen and its clinical relevance in tree pollen allergic patients living in Istanbul, Turkey., Methods: Twenty three seasonal allergic rhinitis patients with a confirmed tree pollen allergy and 5 healthy control subjects underwent skin prick and nasal provocation tests with M.alba pollen extract. The pollen extract was then resolved by gel electrophoresis, and immunoblotted with sera from patients/control individuals to detect the potential allergenic proteins. The prevalent IgE binding proteins from 1D-gel were analyzed by MALDI-TOF/TOF., Results: Eleven out of 23 patients were reactive to the extract with skin prick tests. Seven of those patients also reacted positively to the nasal provocation tests. The most common IgE-binding pollen proteins were detected between 55-100 kDa, and also at molecular weights lower than 30 kDa for some patients. Mass spectrometry analyses revealed that the principal IgE-binding protein was methionine synthase (5-methyltetrahydropteroyltriglutamate homocysteine methyltransferase), which is then proposed as a novel allergen in M.alba pollen., Conclusion: This study provides the first detailed information for the potential allergens of Morus alba pollen of Istanbul. Methionine synthase with an apparent molecular weight of 80 to 85 kDa has been recognized as one of the allergens in Morus alba pollen for the first time.

- Abstract
Purpose: Reports evaluating diagnosis and cross reactivity of quinolone hypersensitivity have revealed contradictory results. Furthermore, there are no reports investigating the cross-reactivity between gemifloxacin (GFX) and the others. We aimed to detect the usefulness of diagnostic tests of hypersensitivity reactions to quinolones and to evaluate the cross reactivity between different quinolones including the latest quinolone GFX., Methods: We studied 54 patients (mean age 42.31±10.39 years; 47 female) with 57 hypersensitivity reactions due to different quinolones and 10 nonatopic quinolone tolerable control subjects. A detailed clinical history, skin test (ST), and single-blind placebo-controlled drug provocation test (SBPCDPT), as well as basophil activation test (BAT) and lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) were performed with the culprit and alternative quinolones including ciprofloxacin (CFX), moxifloxacin (MFX), levofloxacin (LFX), ofloxacin (OFX), and GFX., Results: The majority (75.9%) of the patients reported immediate type reactions to various quinolones. The most common culprit drug was CFX (52.6%) and the most common reaction type was urticaria (26.3%). A quarter of the patients (24.1%) reacted to SBPCDPTs, although their STs were negative; while false ST positivity was 3.5% and ST/SBPCDPTs concordance was only 1.8%. Both BAT and LTT were not found useful in quinolone hypersensitivity. Cross-reactivity was primarily observed between LFX and OFX (50.0%), whereas it was the least between MFX and the others, and in GFX hypersensitive patients the degree of cross-reactivity to the other quinolones was 16.7%., Conclusions: These results suggest that STs, BAT, and LTT are not supportive in the diagnosis of a hypersensitivity reaction to quinolone as well as in the prediction of cross-reactivity. Drug provocation tests (DPTs) are necessary to identify both culprit and alternative quinolones., Competing Interests: There are no financial or other issues that might lead to conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2017 The Korean Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology · The Korean Academy of Pediatric Allergy and Respiratory Disease)

- Abstract
In this work, a core-shell quantum dot (QD, ZnS-CdS) was electrodeposited onto multiwalled carbon nanotube modified glassy carbon electrode (ZnS-CdS/MWCNT/GCE) and following glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) was immobilized onto QD modified electrode. The proposed electrode (GDH/ZnS-CdS/MWCNT/GCE) was effectively used for the photoelectrochemical biosensing of glucose in flow injection analysis (FIA) system using a home-made flow cell. Results from cyclic voltammetric and FI amperometric measurements have revealed that GDH/ZnS-CdS/MWCNT/GCE is capable of signaling photoelectrocatalytic activity toward NADH when the surface of enzyme modified electrode was irradiated with a light source (250W Halogen lamp). Thus, photoelectrochemical biosensing of glucose was monitored by recording current-time curve of enzymatically produced NADH at optimized conditions. The biosensor response was found linear over the range 0.010-2.0mM glucose with detection limits of 6.0 and 4.0μM for amperometric and photoamperometric methods, respectively. The relative standard deviations (n=5) for 0.5mM glucose were 5.8% and 3.8% for photoamperometric and amperometric results, respectively. The photoelectrochemical biosensor was successfully applied to the real samples. The results with this biosensor showed good selectivity, repeatability and sensitivity for monitoring glucose in amperometric and photoamperometric FIA studies., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. - Abstract
Background: In recent studies, local specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) production against allergens in nasal mucosa and a positive response to a nasal allergen provocation test (NAPT) have been demonstrated in some patients initially diagnosed as nonallergic rhinitis (NAR) or idiopathic rhinitis (IR). The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of local allergic rhinitis (LAR) in patients who experience rhinitis symptoms in indoor and outdoor moldy conditions and to investigate the role of the NAPT in diagnosis., Methods: A total of 40 NAR patients with a history of persistent rhinitis and who had negative skin-prick tests (SPTs) and serum sIgE levels to common aeroallergens, as well as 20 healthy subjects were included in the study. NAPTs were performed with Aspergillus fumigatus (group 1) or a mixture of Alternaria alternata and Cladosporium herbarum extracts (group 2)., Results: In patient nasal lavage fluids, tryptase and mold sIgE levels were not significantly different from the control group. NAPT with Aspergillus fumigatus was positive in 8 of 12 NAR patients (66.6%) in group 1 and NAPT with the mixture of extracts was positive in 9 of 13 NAR patients (69.2%) in group 2., Conclusion: This study suggests that LAR may exist in a significant number of the persistent rhinitis patients who were previously considered as NAR based on negative SPTs or serum sIgE tests. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study evaluating a nasal local allergic response to both indoor and outdoor molds., (© 2016 ARS-AAOA, LLC.)

- Abstract
In this study, the electrochemical behavior of eugenol, a widely used herbal drug, was investigated at a pencil graphite electrode (PGE). A low-cost, disposable, sensitive and selective electrochemical sensor is proposed for the determination of eugenol by recording its differential pulse voltammograms in Britton-Robinson buffer solution containing 0.1 M KCl with pH of 2.0 at the PGE. The PGE displayed a very good electrochemical behavior with significant enhancement of the peak current compared to a glassy carbon electrode. Under experimental conditions, the PGE had a linear response range from 0.3 μM to 50.0 μM eugenol with a detection limit of 0.085 μM (based on 3S(b)). Relative standard deviations of 2.4 and 4.8% were obtained for five successive determinations of 30.0 and 5.0 μM eugenol, respectively, which indicate acceptable repeatability. This voltammetric method was successfully applied for the direct determination of eugenol in real samples. The effect of various interfering compounds on the eugenol peak current was also studied., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.)

- Abstract
In this paper, a pencil graphite electrode was pretreated using chronoamperometry technique in phosphate buffer solution (pH=7.0) for sensitive determination of quercetin. Oxidation of quercetin was investigated using pretreated pencil graphite electrode and anodic stripping differential pulse voltammetry. Under optimal conditions, the anodic current of quercetin exhibited linear response to its concentration in the range from 0.001 to 1.5 µmol/L with the limit of detection of 0.3·10
-3 µmol/L. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of quercetin in cranberry and blackcurrant juices with recovery rate from 93.2 to 94.7%. Solid-phase extraction was found to be necessary prior to voltammetric determination of quercetin in fruit juice samples using pretreated pencil graphite electrode.- Published

- Abstract
Background: There are scarce data about the prevalence of Hymenoptera venom allergy in the general population. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hymenoptera venom allergy in the general adult population of Istanbul., Methods: A total of 17,064 randomly selected telephone numbers were contacted and 11,816 (69.25%) individuals who agreed to participate completed a questionnaire. Those who disclosed hypersensitivity reactions due to Hymenoptera stings in this initial survey were called again and given another questionnaire. Those who were suspected of experiencing hypersensitivity reactions to Hymenoptera stings were invited for a clinical investigation with in vivo and in vitro diagnostic tests., Results: According to the first questionnaire, a total of 1171 (9.9%; 95% CI: 9.38-10.47%) were suspected of having a hypersensitivity to Hymenoptera stings. 51.75% (n: 606) answered the second questionnaire and 21% (n: 128) of these were still suspected of having a hypersensitivity to Hymenoptera stings (1.1%; 95% CI: 0.9-1.29%). The confirmed prevalence of hypersensitivity to Hymenoptera stings according to skin tests and in vitro sIgE levels was 0.2% (95% CI: 0.14-0.30%). Nearly all of the participants with systemic reactions were admitted to the emergency department, although only one tenth of them received adrenaline in the emergency room. 2.3% carried an adrenaline injector, whereas none of the patients received venom immunotherapy., Conclusions: The prevalence of Hymenoptera sting reactions in our geographical region is comparable with other European studies. There is a need to increase the awareness of adrenaline in the emergency management of insect sting anaphylaxis and venom immunotherapy in the prophylaxis., (Copyright © 2014 Japanese Society of Allergology. - Abstract
This study describes a new approach for the investigation of electrocatalytic oxidation of sulfide using a pencil graphite electrode modified with quercetin (PGE/QH(2)). Adsorption procedure was used for the preparation of the modified electrodes. It was observed that PGE/QH(2) showed a significant electrocatalytic activity toward sulfide oxidation. Cyclic voltammetric studies show that the peak potential of sulfide shifts from +450 mV at bare PGE to +280 mV at PGE/QH(2). The electrocatalytic currents obtained from amperometric measurements at +300 mV vs. Ag/AgCl/KCl(sat) and at pH 8.0 BR buffer solution containing 0.1M NH(4)Cl were linearly related to the concentration of sulfide. The calibration graph consisted of two linear segments of 1-20 μM and 20-800 μM with a detection limit of 0.3 μM (based on 3s(b)). The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of sulfide in waste waters and was compared with the spectrophotometric method., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier B.V. - Abstract
This study investigates a new approach for the electrocatalytic determination of sulfide in a flow injection analysis (FIA) system using a Prussian blue modified glassy carbon electrode (PB/GCE). The results from experiments show that PB/GCE significantly enhances the electrocatalytic activity towards sulfide oxidation. A homemade flow electrochemical cell was used to perform the electrocatalytic determination of sulfide in the FIA system. The currents obtained from amperometric measurements in the FIA system at optimum conditions (carrier solution, pH 8.0; Britton-Robinson buffer solution containing 0.1 M KCl; flow rate, 1.4 mL/min; transmission tubing length, 10 cm; injection volume, 100 μL; constant applied potential, +150 mV vs. Ag/AgCl/KClsat) were linearly correlated with the sulfide concentration. A calibration curve was obtained for sulfide concentrations in the range of 0.5 - 100 μM. The detection limit was found to be 0.3 μM for the amperometric method. The proposed method was successfully applied to wastewater sample. Finally, results from sulfide measurements by PB/GCE were in good agreement with those obtained from the spectrophotometric method.
