Flood damage assessment is often based on flood risk analysis and characteristics. the amount of flood damage may also depend on other factors. The presented paper describes a proposal for the selection of factors that may contribute to the amount of flood damage in the Slovak Republic. The Slovak Republic with an area of 49 036 km2 is a landlocked country of Central Europe. The administrative division of the Slovak Republic defines 8 self-governing regions. Within individual regions, it is possible to express quantifiable indicators that can contribute to the amount of flood damage. Based on the conditions of accessibility, measurability, and relevance, these factors were identified: demographical, economical, and geographical. Factors (indexes) includes population in the region, total population, number of rural municipalities in the region, total number of rural municipalities, number of cities in the region, total number of cities, economically active population, employment, area of the region and total area of the Slovak republic. Appropriate statistical methods will express the contribution of the factor to the amount of damage within one self-governing region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
