7. Dirac Equation in Four Time and Four Space Dimensions

Abstract

The Dirac equation in four time and four space dimensions (or (4+4)-dimensions) is considered. Step by step we show that such an equation admits Majorana and Weyl solutions. In order to obtain the Majorana or Weyl spinors we used a method based on the construction of Clifford algebra in terms of 2x2-matrices. Abstract

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites in pre-slaughter cattle at the Quevedo abattoir, Ecuador. A total of 240 fecal samples were collected between August 2022 and July 2023. Variables such as age, sex, origin of the cattle, and season were analyzed to identify potential risk factors associated with parasite presence. Parasite identification was conducted using the flotation technique, which revealed the presence of Strongyloides and Paramphistomum. Statistical analysis involved calculating the Odds Ratio (OR) to assess exposure to risk factors, while the Chi-square test evaluated associations between variables and prevalence rates. Infection was significantly associated with male sex and animals originating from the Pucayacu area, attributed to the high humidity characteristic of this region. The overall parasite prevalence exceeded 50%, underscoring the need for implementing control measures in high-risk areas. Data analysis was performed using the statistical software InfoStat. 13. The red tandem : conservative Republicans and socialism in contemporary America

Abstract

This thesis is an analysis of contemporary American political history, examining conservative Republican rhetoric as it relates to polarisation, four-party politics and a governing philosophy. In particular, it analyses conservative Republican rhetoric and the strong emphasis associated with the socialist label, especially how the socialist label is employed as a critique against the New Deal and its ongoing political legacy - the modern American welfare state. I compare the difference in how conservative Republicans employ the socialist label in the context of being the majority party, as well as of being the minority party. I utilise James MacGregor Burns' original four-party politics argument and reorganise it in order to best explain American domestic politics in the post-Cold War era - separating the Republican presidential party from its congressional party. The thesis examines how conservative Republican rhetoric is strategic. It is effective at casting a negative light on the opposition, but creates a false impression of a conservative Republican governing philosophy. Conservative Republican rhetoric is strongest when it opposes something, usually big government in some way, such as opposing national health care reform. On the other hand, once conservative Republicans are in a position of power, they have to scale back their anti-statist rhetoric so that it leads to lasting accomplishments, instead of railing against government and shirking the responsibilities of governing. This involves a combination of pragmatism and ideology - which becomes harder to achieve as the GOP moves further rightward. Conservative Republican rhetoric has evolved over time from its original libertarian economic-centred argument against the New Deal. In the post-Cold War era, this rhetoric still draws on the "less government" economic argument, whilst also calling for more government intervention on socio-moral issues.

Abstract

A preregistered meta-analysis, including 244 effect sizes from 85 field audits and 361,645 individual job applications, tested for gender bias in hiring practices in female-stereotypical and gender-balanced as well as male-stereotypical jobs from 1976 to 2020. A “red team” of independent experts was recruited to increase the rigor and robustness of our meta-analytic approach. A forecasting survey further examined whether laypeople (n = 499 nationally representative adults) and scientists (n = 312) could predict the results. Forecasters correctly anticipated reductions in discrimination against female candidates over time. However, both scientists and laypeople overestimated the continuation of bias against female candidates. Instead, selection bias in favor of male over female candidates was eliminated and, if anything, slightly reversed in sign starting in 2009 for mixed-gender and male-stereotypical jobs in our sample. Forecasters further failed to anticipate that discrimination against male candidates for stereotypically female jobs would remain stable across the decades.

Abstract

Unifying models have shown that the amount of space used by animals (e.g., activity space, home range) scales allometrically with body mass for terrestrial taxa; however, such relationships are far less clear for marine species. We compiled movement data from 1,596 individuals across 79 taxa collected using a continental passive acoustic telemetry network of acoustic receivers to assess allometric scaling of activity space. We found that ectothermic marine taxa do exhibit allometric scaling for activity space, with an overall scaling exponent of 0.64. However, body mass alone explained only 35% of the variation, with the remaining variation best explained by trophic position for teleosts and latitude for sharks, rays, and marine reptiles. Taxon-specific allometric relationships highlighted weaker scaling exponents among teleost fish species (0.07) than sharks (0.96), rays (0.55), and marine reptiles (0.57). The allometric scaling relationship and scaling exponents for the marine taxonomic groups examined were lower than those reported from studies that had collated both marine and terrestrial species data derived using various tracking methods. We propose that these disparities arise because previous work integrated summarized data across many studies that used differing methods for collecting and quantifying activity space, introducing considerable uncertainty into slope estimates. Our findings highlight the benefit of using large-scale, coordinated animal biotelemetry networks to address cross-taxa evolutionary and ecological questions.

Abstract

Gallbladder cancer (CVB) has historically been one of the main causes of mortality in the female population, a situation that creates the need to implement measures to control its incidence in the Chilean population. Methodology: Observational and descriptive study. In which data obtained by the Department of Health Information Statistics (DEIS), which focuses on the incidence of gallbladder cancer in Chile, have been analyzed. Data were distributed according to gender, age, age range and year. Results: From the analysis of the data, it can be estimated that the mortality rate in Chile for gallbladder cancer is one of the highest in the world, since a rate of 9 per 100,000 inhabitants was obtained. The average age of the deceased is 69 years, it should be noted that in 2011 a peak was investigated with a mortality rate of 10.56 per 100,000 inhabitants, to decrease until 2017. Discussion: The implementation of a preventive cholecystectomy plan has been a great step for the country, with a significant reduction in mortality and incidence in recent years. Reaching at least 60,000 cholecystectomy surgeries in the country. The Mapuche population is the most studied people in the country with association with gallbladder cancer, reaching a total of 1,745,147 inhabitants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Se planteó el desarrollo de una investigación no experimental, descriptivo-correlacional y transeccional. Se inicia con la descripción general de cada variable de estudio: estrategias de aprendizaje, elección vocacional, rendimiento académico y personalidad predominante en los alumnos del CEPRE-UNMSM – Ciclo Extraordinario 2013-2014, trabajando las relaciones entre las variables de estudio. Se utilizó la escala de estrategias de aprendizaje elaborada por Román y Gallego, el test de autoevaluación vocacional de Holland, encuesta psicopedagógica elaborada por los autores del estudio (Chávez y Ruelas, 2012) y rendimiento académico de los estudiantes en los exámenes del CEPRE – UNMSM. Los resultados se han sometido al análisis estadístico correspondiente utilizando MS – Excel y la versión 20 del SPSS. Se obtuvo como resultado que las estrategias de aprendizaje más utilizadas por los alumnos son repetición y relectura (80.88%). En la elección vocacional la carrera profesional que tiene mayor demanda es Medicina Humana. En la correlación de estrategias de aprendizaje y elección vocacional, las dos variables son independientes, no están asociadas, por lo tanto no rechazamos la hipótesis nula. En la correlación estrategias de aprendizaje y rendimiento académico, las variables son independientes. En correlación estrategias de aprendizaje y personalidad, las dos variables son independientes, no están asociadas, por lo tanto no rechazamos la hipótesis nula. Los resultados cuantitativos nos indican, en su contrastación a nivel correlacional, que no existe una relación directa significativa entre las estrategias de aprendizaje con el rendimiento académico, personalidad y elección vocacional.

Abstract

El presente estudio, de índole descriptiva, no experimental y transeccional, describe las variables personalidad, inteligencia, motivación y estrategias de aprendizaje pertenecientes a 553 alumnos del CEPRE-UNMSM ingresantes, utilizando el Inventario de Personalidad de Eysenck–Forma B, el Test D-70 y el Cuestionario MSLQ–SF. Los resultados indican que los alumnos ingresantes 2013 a la UNMSM tienen tendencia al temperamento sanguíneo, en razón al factor G de la Inteligencia los ubica en la categoría superior, poseen una ansiedad moderada y utilizan, para aprender, mayormente la estrategia cognitiva y metacognitiva de elaboración, en la estrategia de administración de recursos manejan mejor la autorregulación del esfuerzo y en componentes de valor se orientan a sus metas intrínsecamente. Se encontró el perfil psicológico del ingresante para formular programas de orientación y/o reorientación psicológica y mejorar la tarea académica del alumno preuniversitario.

Abstract

La presente investigación se orientó a conocer y comparar el compromiso y el comportamiento ecológico y sus factores en estudiantes universitarios de dos universidades públicas de Lima y Huaraz, esta última afectada en una de sus mayores riquezas hídricas (el nevado de Pastoruri). El diseño de investigación es descriptivo-comparativo, la muestra fue conformada por 854 alumnos, de los cuales 315 pertenecen a una universidad pública de Lima y 539 a la universidad pública de Huaraz; 339 son varones y 515 mujeres; los instrumentos de recolección de datos son el cuestionario valorativo de compromiso ecológico, basado en la escala EAKS adaptado por Martínez, F. (2005) y la escala de comportamiento ecológico (ECE), basada en la escala de comportamiento ambiental de Karp y adaptada en Brasil por Pato, 2004; se realizó la adaptación lingüística y el análisis psicométrico de ambos instrumentos, en los dos casos se mantuvieron los mismos factores, lo que varió fue el número total de ítems y la redacción de otros sin variar el contenido; los resultados establecen diferencias significativas en todos los factores de compromiso ecológico en los estudiantes de Lima y Huaraz, en cuanto a sexo se encontraron diferencias significativas solo en el factor de compromiso ecológico afectivo y real, considerando la autodefinición ideológica no se encontraron diferencias en ninguno de los factores. En relación con el comportamiento ecológico en la comparación de ambas universidades se encontraron diferencias significativas en activismo, ahorro de energía y reciclaje; considerando el sexo se encontraron diferencias en los factores de ahorro de agua, energía y reciclaje, y en cuanto a la autodefinición ideológica se encontraron diferencias significativas en el factor de activismo, ahorro de energía y reciclaje.

49. Vigilancia epidemiológica y atención a gestantes con Covid-19 en el sistema de salud

Abstract

La salud de la mujer gestante se constituye uno de los ejes prioritarios de la salud pública. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar la vigilancia epidemiológica y atención de la gestante con Covid-19 en el sistema de salud a partir de una revisión sistemática. La metodología utilizada refiere a una revisión sistemática, enfoque cualitativo descriptivo. En los estudios analizados se tuvo un total de 1.009 gestantes con resultados 100% positivos al Sars-Cov 2 mediante prueba de PCR, de las cuales solo el 7,23% recibieron control prenatal, se halló transmisión vertical en 1,39% seguido de complicaciones obstétricas en su mayoría como la Preeclampsia, HTA gestacional, diabetes gestacional y parto pre-términos; hubo predominio de las cesáreas al 37%. La transmisión vertical ocurrió en solo 28 de un total de 1.009 RN, cuyo nexo epidemiológico se asocia al contacto directo de la madre. Se concluye que la vigilancia epidemiológica fue insuficiente a las gestantes con Covid-19; la tasa de mortalidad no fue mayor a la estimada para las no gestantes; y no hay transmisión vertical.
