Introduction: Patients with protein metabolism disorders (PMDs) require a diet with strict protein control that can affect their growth and development. The aim of the study was to assess nutritional status and growth in patients with PMDs undergoing dietary treatment. Patients and methods: Prospective observational case-control study in 63 patients with PMDs and 63 healthy controls matched for age and sex. We collected data for anthropometric variables (weight, height, BMI, tricipital and subscapular skinfolds, arm and waist circumference) and calculated the corresponding z scores. We also estimated the body fat mass and classified patients into nutritional status categories. Results: The overall analysis found a lower height z score in patients with PMDs and an equal proportion of overweight and obesity with respect to controls (30.2%). When we divided patients with PMDs into 2 groups (phenylketonuria and other aminoacidopathies), we found that patients with phenylketonuria had a height that was similar to the height of controls and significantly higher compared to patients with other aminoacidopathies. When it came to nutritional status, the prevalence of overweight and obesity was greater in the phenylketonuria group (45.5%), while underweight and short stature were more frequent in the group with other aminoacidopathies. Conclusion: Not all patients with PMDs follow the same growth pattern, and their body composition is variable. In our sample, the group of patients with phenylketonuria had an adequate height but also a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity. On the other hand, patients with other aminoacidopathies had a higher prevalence of underweight and lower z scores for height and arm circumference.

Background: Adolescence encompasses biopsychosocial transitions. Changes are also expected about eating. Objective: to explore associations between nutritional status, food consumption, eating behavior and sociodemographic profile of adolescents from the eighth year of elementary school to the first year of high school at a private school in Curitiba-PR. Materials and Methods: cross-sectional study. Questionnaires were applied regarding food consumption, eating behavior, sociodemographic profile. Anthropometry was performed, by measuring weight and height, to classify nutritional status by height/age and BMI/age, according to growth curves and z-score cutoff points, established by WHO. Results: 110 adolescents aged 14.15±0.88 years participated in the study, 50.91% (n=56) male and 64.54% (n=71) eutrophic. 68.18% (n=75) consumed sweets/treats the previous day. There was an association between disordered eating behavior dimensions and food consumption, relating "pleasure in eating" to consumption of fruits (p=0.030); greens/vegetables (p=0.031); sweetened drinks (p=0.048); and "desire for sweetened drinks" to consumption of instant noodles, packaged snacks and salty biscuits (p=0,043). Furthermore, "response to satiety" was associated with lower bean consumption (p=0.027) and weight status (p=0.016); and "food selectivity" was associated with lower consumption of vegetables (p=0.015). Conclusion: eating behavior was associated with weight status and food consumption, highlighting the importance of nutritional education, with an emphasis on the consumption of ultra-processed foods and the prevalence of overweight/obesity. CHILDREN'S health , *DIETARY patterns , *ADOLESCENT obesity , *PHYSICAL activity , *SEDENTARY behavior , *CHILDHOOD obesity - Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of parental lifestyles on the level of physical activity and nutritional status of students aged 11 to 16 in the city of Cáceres - Spain. A cross-sectional and observational study was carried out in schools in the cities of Cáceres-Extremadura-Spain, with students aged 11 to 16 years old, of both sexes, from private public schools, and their respective parents/guardians. Data were obtained from 360 students through questionnaires. The questionnaires covered personal data, eating habits, level of physical activity and sedentary behaviors. The results indicated a high incidence of obesity among adolescents, especially among boys. Lack of adequate physical activity and sedentary behavior were identified as contributing factors. Furthermore, parental obesity, maternal education and parents' self-perception of their health showed relevant associations with their children's obesity. Surprisingly, parental education emerged as a significant factor in the incidence of obesity, while other variables such as gender, parental alcohol and tobacco consumption did not show a statistically significant association. The results highlight the importance of considering socioeconomic factors in understanding adolescent obesity and provide insights for targeted intervention strategies. Based on the results obtained, this study highlights the complex interaction between parents' habits and their children's health, highlighting the need for integrated approaches to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent obesity in the adolescent population. Objective: To relate body image, food behavior and nutritional status of university students studying nutrition at a Higher Education Institution in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional research with a descriptive and analytical approach, quantitative in nature, carried out with 92 nutrition students of both sexes. Data collection was carried out online, using semi-structured (socioeconomic and demographic data) and structured forms (Silhouette Scale and Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire). The data obtained were entered into the Microsoft Office Excel program and later exported to Jamovi version 2.3 for statistical processing. Results: It was noted that the average age of the group was 24.8 years (±7.0), with the majority 57.6% (n=53) being female. A statistically significant association was observed between body dissatisfaction and nutritional status (p=0.002), as well as between body image dissatisfaction and eating behavior (p=0.025). Conclusion: The research found an association between body dissatisfaction, eating behavior and nutritional status in university students studying nutrition. Although the majority of students are eutrophic, dissatisfaction with body image persists, indicating the need for strategies to alleviate aesthetic pressure. These measures aim to prevent health problems, such as depression and eating disorders, thus promoting a better quality of life for students and future health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DRINKING (Physiology) , *DIETARY patterns , *FOOD habits , *BODY mass index , *NUTRITION , *NUTRITIONAL status - Abstract
Food and adherence to a healthy dietary pattern are important in the search for health and the discussion about how dietary changes can impact nutritional status and intestinal functioning is growing. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the nutritional profile of patients treated at a nutrition school clinic at a Brazilian college institution and to verify association between intestinal function (Bristol scale), nutritional status and consumption of fruits and vegetables. This cross-sectional research analyzed first records of adult patients, aged between 20 and 59 years old, seen in the first half of 2021. 113 patients were included (74.3% women) with a median age of 37 years old, with no differences between men and women (P=0.088). The mean body mass index (BMI) was 29.6 ± 6.9 kg/m² and 44.2% were classified as obese (BMI >30kg/m²). The main objective was weight loss (50.5%). Age was positively associated with BMI and consumption of vegetables and fruits. BMI correlated negatively with weekly fruit consumption. There was no association with the type of feces and daily water intake in this research. The present research demonstrated an association between nutritional status and age with the consumption of fruits and vegetables, highlighting the importance of healthy eating habits in controlling weight. Although no association with intestinal function was observed in this study, adherence to a healthy eating pattern is essential for the health of this organ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HYPERTENSION in women , *LOGISTIC regression analysis , *BLOOD pressure measurement , *BODY mass index , *PRIMARY health care - Abstract
Background: The present study is a result of the demand for medical anthropometric measurements regarding the association between obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors. Objective: Compare the association between four anthropometric measurements, namely the Waist Circumference (WC), the Body Mass Index (BMI), the Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHR), and the Conicity Index (CI) with arterial hypertension in Brazilian women. Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 2010-2012, in two Brazilian Primary Health Care Units, with 1,570 adult participants (20-59-year-olds). Blood pressure and anthropometric measurements were assessed according to the standard protocol. ROC curves were constructed for the anthropometric measurements, with the cut-off points established using the Youden index, furthermore, the multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to verify the associations' magnitude. Results: The findings herein indicate that hypertensive women (26.6%) were older and exhibited higher values for WC, BMI, WHR and CI. The area under the curve of the WC (0.69), the BMI (0.71) and the WHR (0.70) did not differ from each other, however, they were larger than the CI's (0.62). BMI was most associated with arterial hypertension, followed by the WC, the WHR, and, finally, the CI. Conclusion: The anthropometric measurements proposed in the present study can be useful in the screening process of women with arterial hypertension, given their low cost and userfriendly practicability. - Abstract
Objective: To assess the association between nutritional status and depression among young adults treated in an outpatient consultation service at a national hospital in Junín in 2023. Materials and methods: This quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted with 346 young adults treated at Hospital Regional Docente Clínico Quirúrgico Daniel Alcides Carrión in Junín, Peru. Depression levels were assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory, while nutritional status was determined through anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, waist circumference (WC) and neck circumference (NC). The statistical analysis was performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, followed by the nonparametric chi-square test with IBM SPSS Statistics 27.0. The study received approval from the Hospital's Ethics Committee. Results: A total of 54.91 % of the participants were female, and the predominant age group was 18 to 24 years. Moderate to severe depression was observed in 27.46 % of the participants and over 50 % showed some degree of depression. Additionally, 25.72 % were overweight, 4.05 % were obese, 17.34 % were at high risk for central obesity, and 22.83 % were at high cardiometabolic risk. However, when assessing the association between the indicators of nutritional status and depression, no statistically significant relationships were found, evidenced by a p value of 0.283 for body mass index, 0.095 for WC and 0.069 for NC. Conclusions: In the young adults from the studied sample, no association was found between the nutritional status of those with central obesity and cardiometabolic risk and their depression levels.

Introduction: nutritional interventions (NI) in schoolchildren allow to take action in health promotion, physical activity, and nutrition actions for the prevention of malnutrition. Objective: to evaluate the effect of an NI on the nutrient content in school snacks (SS) in public education schools in Mexico. Methods: descriptive, longitudinal, and prospective study with a sample of 812 children were classified into intervention group (IG) and control group (CG). Anthropometric measurements (weight, height, waist circumference) were made to identify nutritional status (NS); to evaluate the SS, the food and beverages that the children took from home to consume during the break were recorded on a checklist; the NI was performed in the IG for 12 weeks with a 6-week reinforcement and the final evaluation was carried out that included NS and overweight (OW) in both groups. Results: a 1.4 % increase in overweight (OW) and obesity (OB) was observed in the IG, while in the CG it increased 5.5 %. In the SS, the CG showed a higher consumption of calories, carbohydrates, and sugars. In the intragroup analysis, the IG decreased carbohydrates, sugars. This intervention showed a small effect on the decrease of calories, carbohydrates and polyunsaturated acids of the IG compared to the CG. Conclusion: NI had a positive effect on the decrease in the energy and carbohydrate content of school snacks and therefore a slower trend in the prevalence of OW and OB in the IG compared to the CG. BEVERAGE consumption , *BODY mass index , *UNDERAGE drinking , *CARBONATED beverages , *FOOD advertising , *NUTRITION , *SOFT drinks - Abstract
There is currently a growing interest in the study of the consumption of carbonated beverages and their harmful effects on health. The highest consumption of soft drinks occurs in the adolescent population belonging to educational institutions, which has made university students the main focus of the study, due to the nutritional vulnerability of this population during their academic training. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the consumption of soft drinks by students of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Universidad del Sinú. To collect the information, a sociodemographic characterization questionnaire was implemented, and variables such as gender, age, socioeconomic stratum, level of knowledge about soft drinks, attitude towards soft drink consumption, preferred soft drink brand, and anthropometric characteristics (weight and height) were studied, based on this last information the Body Mass Index (BMI) was determined, additionally, the frequency of consumption was studied and related to each of the above factors. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA analysis and the HSD Tukey test. The results showed that the greater the frequency of consumption, the greater the increase in weight, and that gender, class, level of knowledge, attitude, and brand affected the frequency of consumption of soft drinks, leading to the conclusion that these factors influence the frequency of consumption of soft drinks. OLDER people , *NUTRITIONAL assessment , *QUALITY of life , *FOOD security , *FOOD habits , *NUTRITIONAL status - Abstract
During the aging process there are morphological and functional changes that can bring health risks. Nutrition is an important factor related to physiological changesand has high relevance regarding healthy aging associated with quality of life, when started early for most of life. Therefore, the study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status and the prevalence of food insecurity in the elderly assisted in Primary Health Care Units (UAPS), located in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante-CE. This is a descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, conducted with elderly people undergoing nutritional monitoring from July to September 2022, through an anamnesis form containing anthropometric and sociodemographic data. For the purpose of assessing food insecurity, the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale– EBIA was used, and as an assessment of the nutritional risk of the elderly, the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MAN) short version was applied. The data were analyze dusing the IBM SPSS 25.0. To verify the association between qualitative variables, the Chi-Squaretest was used. In both groups, a high prevalence of overweight individuals was verified and individuals whose BMI classification resulted in thinness had a higher percentage in the classification under risk of malnutrition. The results of applying the (EBIA) indicated a higher classification percentage in relation to “food security” in females. Elderly people between 75 and 90 years old had a higher percentage offood security compared to elderly people between 60 and 74 years old. In this way, the need for care strategies for the elderly is highlighted to adapt and provide guidance on healthy eating and its importance in quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIETARY patterns , *SCREEN time , *SEDENTARY behavior , *SEDENTARY lifestyles , *TELEVISION monitors - Abstract
According to the WHO, in 2019, physical inactivity affected more than 80% of adolescents worldwide and 83.6% in Brazil. As a result of a sedentary lifestyle and a lack of time for physical activity, adolescents tend to be prone to developing overweight and obesity. The aim of this study was to associate nutritional status with the level of physical activity of adolescents at a public school in the state of Minas Gerais. This was a crosssectional study of adolescents enrolled in the 6th to 9th grades of elementary school and the 1st to 3rd grades of secondary school, aged 10 or over and under 20. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short version was used and anthropometric data on weight and height were collected on site at the school. The data was tabulated in Microsoft Excel Office 2010 and analyzed using descriptive statistics. A total of 101 adolescents took part, with an average BMI of 20.3 kg/m2 . 80.2% had the habit of eating in front of the television or other screens, the average daily screen time was approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes and there was a prevalence of BMI associated with moderate physical activity, and it was pointed out that the better the BMI (within the appropriate classification range) the greater the adolescent's interest in regular moderate physical activity. The results obtained contributed to understanding the nutritional status of the population investigated and the factors that may condition it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to investigate factors associated with metabolic screening for intestinal dysbiosis in workers of a food company in Southern Brazil. Methods: Demographic and lifestyle data were collected, nutritional status was assessed using the body mass index, and metabolic screening for intestinal dysbiosis was evaluated through the metabolic screening questionnaire (MSQ). Prevalence ratios were calculated. Results: MSQ scores revealed that 25.9% and 22.2% of workers indicated hypersensitivity and certainty of hypersensitivity, respectively. Among unhealthy workers, only males (p=0.04) had 2.3 times more chances of having hypersensitivity. Furthermore, key symptoms associated with a higher likelihood of hypersensitivity (p<0.01) included anxiety, fear, or nervousness (76.9%), headache (73.1%), burping and/or intestinal gas (65.4%), anger, irritability, or aggressiveness (61.5%), mood swings/morning grumpiness (61.5%), hair loss (57.7%), and insomnia (53.8%). Conclusion: male workers had a higher likelihood of food and/or environmental hypersensitivity. Additionally, symptoms associated with the development of food and/or environmental hypersensitivity and were correlated with an increased likelihood of presenting hypersensitivity. Objective: To learn about and compare breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding and the nutritional status of preschoolers attending various child development centers in a municipality of Mexico City. Materials and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study which analyzed a sample of 444 preschoolers who underwent anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin determination. Additionally, information on breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices was gathered from mothers. The children were categorized into two age groups (13 to 59 months and 13 to 80 months). Results: The average age was 48.4 months, with 90 % having received breastfeeding for an average of 7.7 months and 63 % having started complementary feeding before six months of age. Significant linear correlations were observed in height-for-age (r = 0.88) and weight-for-age (r = 0.72), and 6.5 % exhibited stunting. According to the nutritional status by body mass index-for-age (BMI-for-age), 3.8 % were classified as underweight, 66.0 % as normal weight, 22.4 % as overweight and 7.8 % as obese. The distribution of these categories was consistent across genders (p = 0.90). Moreover, 13.0 % were classified as at risk of malnutrition based on upper arm circumference. Girls exhibited higher percentages of body fat (BF) (p = 0.008) and total fat (TF) (p = 0.01); 4 % of the children presented anemia, being more prevalent in girls (p = 0.02). There was an average annual weight gain of 2.3 kg across age categories, except for those over six years old, who averaged 11.36 kg. Conclusions: Malnutrition is a growing public health problem. Preschool age is the ideal stage to carry out interventions that stimulate and promote healthy dietary habits and physical activity. Prolonged exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months is crucial for newborns and infants. In conclusion, it is imperative to refrain from using breastmilk substitutes and to delay the introduction of complementary feeding before this period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
