Purpose: To validate two health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measures, the PedsQL Generic Core and Cancer Module adolescent forms (13-18 years), after modification for 16-25-year-old adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer or a blood disorder.Methods: AYA patients and nominated proxies were recruited from three Sydney hospitals. Modified forms were administered by telephone or in clinics/wards. Analyses included correlations, factor analysis, and analysis of variance of known-groups (defined by the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale).Results: Eighty-eight patients and 79 proxies completed questionnaires. Factor structures consistent with those of the unmodified forms confirmed construct validity. Cronbach's alpha ranged 0.81-0.98. Inter-scale correlations were as hypothesized, confirming discriminant validity. Statistically significant differences between groups with mild, moderate, and severe symptoms (P < 0.05) confirmed clinical validity.Conclusion: These modified forms provide reliable and valid measures of HRQOL in AYA with cancer or a blood disorder, suitable for clinical trials, research, and practice. We present a contaminant treatment system (CTS) package for MODFLOW 6 that facilitates the simulation of pump-and-treat systems for groundwater remediation. Using the "nonintrusive" MODFLOW 6 application programming interface (API) capability, the CTS package can balance flows between extraction and injection wells within the outer flow solution loop and applies blended concentration/mass treatment efficiency within the outer transport solution loop. The former can be important when the requested extraction rate cannot be satisfied by the current simulated groundwater system conditions, while the latter can be important for simulating incomplete/imperfect treatment schemes. Furthermore, the CTS package allows users to temporally vary all aspects of a simulated CTS system, including the configuration and location of injection and extraction wells, and the CTS efficiency. This flexibility combined with the API-based implementation provide a generic and general CTS package that can be applied across the wide range of MODFLOW 6 simulation options and that evolves in step with MODFLOW 6 code modifications and advancements without needing to update the CTS package itself., (© 2022 National Ground Water Association.)

Background: Chlamydia is the most commonly reported notifiable condition in the United States. Chlamydia disproportionately impacts young women and women of color. Annual screening of sexually active women 24 years and younger is recommended., Methods: Between 2016 and 2019, we facilitated 3 learning collaboratives to increase chlamydia screening at a combined 37 family planning clinics funded by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Office of Population Affairs in the Department of Health and Human Services, and the New York State Department of Health. We applied a consistent learning collaborative approach across the 3 cohorts. Participating clinics sought to improve the proportion of clients screened for chlamydia each month, implemented a standard set of recommended practices, attended virtual learning sessions, reported updates on quality improvement efforts and chlamydia screening data monthly, and provided qualitative feedback in an online final assessment., Results: Median screening rates increased by 11%, 22%, and 24% in the 3 collaboratives (P values of <0.01, 0.05, and 0.02, respectively). Increases were sustained after the collaboratives ended though the changes did not reach statistical significance. At least 75% of clinics increased screening rates in each collaborative. Clinics reported that adopting normalizing and opt-out language when counseling clients about screening was both feasible and effective, as was reducing missed opportunities for screening., Conclusions: Learning collaboratives consistently resulted in improvement across 3 cohorts and shed light on barriers and facilitators to screening in family planning settings. Public health practitioners are encouraged to draw on our results and lessons learned to promote screening.

Penetrating facial trauma is uncommon in children; a large series published by Cooper et al revealed that only 1% to 2% of the total population of infants and children admitted for trauma during their study period had a diagnosis of penetrating trauma to the head or neck. Little has been published specifically addressing these injuries in the pediatric population. The records of 20 patients treated for penetrating facial injuries at Kosair-Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky from January 1991 through December 1994 were reviewed. The location, mechanism and extent of injury, as well as the diagnostic and management practices used in patient treatment, were collected. Categorizing the injuries relative to the involvement of one or more facial zones helped guide diagnostic studies and therapeutic intervention and predict associated injuries. This article evaluates the authors' method of management and any differences in management between pediatric and similarly injured adult patients.
