Production companies are facing increasing production complexity and demographic change. Therefore, with its decreasing physiological and mental performance prerequisites, the aging workforce is often confronted with overload at the workplace leading to fatigue and work errors in the short term and increasing sick days in the long term. Integrating physiological and mental aspects into existing employee scheduling is one way to maintain employees' health and performance. Incorporating these aspects is often very complex due to the need for multiple disciplines and the lack of supporting methods and tools. Therefore, this paper provides a practical-oriented overview for including physiological and mental aspects in existing employee scheduling. The intercorrelation between workload, individual performance prerequisites and strain, their measurement methods, and standardised alternatives are explained to support industrial practitioners in production management, like planners. A four-step method for integrating physiological and mental aspects in employee scheduling is presented. With the help of this method, the interaction between the ergonomics/human factors departments and production management can be improved, resulting in a more human-oriented employee scheduling. Big data technologies change the way in which data and labor combine to create knowledge. Is this a modest innovation or a data revolution? Using hiring and wage data, we estimate firms' data stocks and their knowledge production functions. Quantifying changes in production functions informs us about the likely long-run changes in output, in factor shares, and in the distribution of income, due to big data technologies. For the investment management industry, our structural estimates predict a 5% decline in the labor share of income; that change is comparable to similar estimates for the industrial revolution. Under the carbon trading mechanism, carbon asset has become an important resource and new production factor for enterprises, and are one of the key factors for production operations. As an emerging mortgage-loan model, carbon asset pledge financing (CAPF) can not only revitalize the carbon assets, but also address insufficient capital for enterprises. For carbon emission-dependent engineering machinery enterprises, this paper examines the impacts of CAPF on the performances of an emission-dependent and capital-constrained remanufacturer. Based on the benchmark without financing, the pure carbon asset pledge financing (PCAPF) strategy and the hybrid carbon asset pledge financing (HCAPF) strategy, are explored. The results show that: (i) Whether the remanufacturer chooses CAPF depends on initial capital, only when its initial capital is below a threshold, it can benefit from the CAPF loan. (ii) The choice of PCAPF and HCAPF for a remanufacturer depends on the quantity of carbon assets, compared with no capital constraint, the PCAPF and HCAPF are all conducive to increasing the quantity of remanufactured products and reducing carbon emissions. (iii) The HCAPF always has a higher contribution rate to the remanufactured quantity and consumer surplus than PCAPF, while the former strategy contributes less than the latter in terms of reducing carbon emission and gaining profit. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSIONS Food loss and waste estimates are highly inconsistent as a result of methodological and systemic differences. Additionally, the absence of in‐depth evidence surrounding the biological drivers of food loss and waste precludes targeted mitigation action. To address this challenge, we undertook a metanalysis utilising a systematic literature review combined with industry stakeholder surveys to examine the incidence of food loss and waste in the UK fruit and vegetable supply chain between primary production and retail.We estimated that 37% of fruit and vegetables, equivalent to 2.4 Mt of produce, is lost between production and sale. In the UK, primary production is the main stage responsible for these losses (58%), and is dominated by four crops (apple, onion, carrot and potato), which contribute 71% of total food loss and waste. Quality and supply/demand mismatch are the core drivers, combined with limited ability to control postharvest quality decline as a result of technical or economic barriers.Innate biological mechanisms contribute to, and detract from, marketable quality generating food loss risks where these cannot be adequately modified or controlled. Through climate change effects, reduced pesticide availability, changing consumer behaviour and increased pressure to reduce resource/energy inputs during pre‐ and postharvest handling, food loss and waste risk is likely to increase in the short term unless targeted, coordinated action is taken to actively promote its mitigation. © 2024 The Author(s). Summary Fermentation is an age‐long food processing tool used to preserve and develop functional foods and beverages. Fruits in particular have a very short shelf life due to their high water activity, favourable to microbial decomposition and spoilage, while legumes are protein‐rich crops that require improved protein digestibility. These are some standout reasons for applying this tool to develop fermented fruit‐ and legume‐based products. From multifarious fruit‐based beers, non‐alcoholic beverages and alcoholic drinks to legume‐based condiments and meals, fermentation has been used over time in Africa to enhance the food security, safety, nutrition, healthfulness and livelihoods of the people. As the nutrition and economic prospects of African fermented fruit‐ and legume‐based products are huge not only to the African continent but globally (as African diasporans and their interracial friends, spouses and relatives are notably consuming them), they are fraught with opportunities and challenges. This review describes the production factors (including raw material selection, processing techniques, environmental conditions and the role of microorganisms) and health benefits of these African fermented products. Safety concerns, fermentation challenges and other considerations are also discussed. Further studies targeting fermentation and production of novel, healthy and safer fruit‐ and legume‐based African food products are warranted due to their potential positive contribution to African and global hunger and malnutrition issues. The coffee sector's challenges, such as low and volatile prices, prompt adopting strategies focused on product differentiation, including high-quality specialty coffee. Nevertheless, documented evidence shows that small producers in Oaxaca, Mexico, are not equally benefiting from this market opportunity compared to other states in Mexico, such as Veracruz or Chiapas. This review article identifies and analyzes the factors in integrating small Oaxacan producers into the specialty market. A total of 138 scientific contributions were analyzed, emphasizing three thematic axes: (1) Trends and behavior of the coffee market. (2) Factors to enable the production of high-quality coffee, and (3) Current situation and challenges of small coffee producers in the specialized market. We found that coffee quality depends on the environment (mainly altitude, temperature, and geographical conditions) and agronomic, genetic, and socioeconomic factors. Moreover, agronomic and genetic factors should focus on choosing coffee varieties suited to the environmental conditions of the farm and adopting innovations in production, harvest, and post-harvest processes. The most significant socio-economic factors that hinder small coffee producers' participation in the specialized market include but are not limited to, lack of information, social connection, and financial resources. However, in the literature analyzed here, it was also possible to identify specific farmworker experiences that operate with a community approach and have inserted their small producers into high-quality market transactions. For this reason, this article suggests that the standardization model of quality from the collective approach within the community-based enterprise is a sustainable and inclusive alternative to achieve the goal: the insertion of small Oaxacan coffee producers into the more significant specialty market. The issues of "real estate management" (REM) and "real estate valuation" (REV) are very important from the perspective of the economic development of any country. This is because they refer to one of the most important factors of production, which is real estate. The article assumes that REV is all the processes that allow for valuation, while REM is all the processes that allow for the management and administration of real estate. Both of these processes were referred to the "real estate market cycle" (REMC) and the "real estate lifecycle" (REL). With the rapid economic growth, the energy demand is increasing in China. Coal accounts for the largest proportion of China's energy consumption, and low coal use efficiency will generate more undesirable output like CO2 and soot, which inevitably lead to environmental problems and human diseases. This paper aims to measure the impact of coal-fired, soot on industrial production efficiency and total factor energy production efficiency of China through directional Slacks-based Measure model (directional-SBM) and Total Factor Energy Efficiency model (TFEE), and pay more attention to the relationship between soot emissions and industrial production efficiency. The results show that China's industrial production efficiency and factor efficiency are underperforming, and there exist huge room for improvement in soot emissions and coal usage. Only a few developed provinces and provinces with small industrial scale are at the efficient frontier, and less than half of the regions exceeds 0.9. Moreover, from 2012 to 2016, while China's coal use has been increasing, the efficiency has been declining. The adjustment value of coal consumption has increased from 16 to 20%, resulting in serious pollution and waste of resources. In general, there is a big gap in industrial production and total factor energy production efficiency between China and developed economies. Therefore, it is necessary for China to accelerate technological reform and optimize the energy consumption structure to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, and provide a reference for the coal industry in other developing countries. Emissions of local pollutants from industry have declined across many developed countries over the last decades. For carbon emissions such reductions have yet to materialize. Using German administrative micro-data at the product level, we apply the workhorse model for decomposing emission changes into scale, composition (changes in the mix of goods produced) and technology (emission factors of production) effects. We find that the production composition in German manufacturing shifted towards less CO2 intensive goods, while emission intensities of production increased. We show that data aggregation matters. Both effects are substantially underestimated when using data at the sector level as compared to the product level. A complementary plant level decomposition reveals that emission intensities of production increased both within plant, and due to a reallocation of production to more emission intensive plants. The electricity system and the industrial sector interrelate on the path to decarbonization. The study addresses the drivers and environmental pressure within the industrial sector on the National Electricity System (NES). This article aims to characterize the metabolic pattern of the NES and the industrial sector using the Multiscale Integrated Analysis of Social and Ecological Metabolism (MuSIASEM) from a bioeconomic perspective to identify fields of opportunity in the regulatory policy instruments. A set of extensive and intensive variables (2019) on energy, production factors, and emissions was used at different hierarchical levels based on both subsectors. Our results show that the NES used primary energy sources (PES) and secondary energy carriers to fulfill its functions, of which 72% were domestic sources and 28% were imported. México imported 79.5% of the natural gas (NG) for electricity generation. However, there are favorable conditions for renewable PES to increase the installed capacity of solar plants between 3 and 4 orders of magnitude and 2–3 in wind power from the current capacity. NES's energy consumption per hour of human time is 17,388 MJ/h, with 65% being the heat equivalent to a total energy input consumed of 2139 PJ/y. Public plants contributed 43.7% to the generation, and the independent and self-supply producers the rest. End uses needed the supply of 69.3% of electricity from baseload plants. Sixty-three percent of the metabolic pattern of the industrial sector is based on heat and fuel processes, which depend on NG imports. The NES is reorganizing and recovering its energy autonomy. Efflux pump inhibitors are a potential therapeutic strategy for managing antimicrobial resistance and biofilm formation. This article evaluated the effect of carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone (CCCP) on the biofilm growth dynamics and the production of virulence factors by Burkholderia pseudomallei. The effects of CCCP on planktonic, growing, and mature biofilm, interaction with antibacterial drugs, and protease and siderophore production were assessed. CCCP MICs ranged between 128 and 256 µM. The CCCP (128 µM) had a synergic effect with all the antibiotics tested against biofilms. Additionally, CCCP reduced (p <.05) the biomass of biofilm growth and mature biofilms at 128 and 512 µM, respectively. CCCP also decreased (p <.05) protease production by growing (128 µM) and induced (p <.05) siderophore release by planktonic cells (128 µM) growing biofilms (12.8 and 128 µM) and mature biofilms (512 µM). This paper contributes to the advancement of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling in addressing the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus. As such, it introduces water resources as a production factor for both the energy sector and irrigated agriculture, as well as their competition for the endowment, aiming to explicitly represent additional components of the WEF with respect to a standard CGE in the literature. Thus, it develops different modelling structures by computing impacts on regional GDP, sectorial prices, and production outputs in response to hypothetical water scarcity scenarios. This analysis allows for the determination of the role of data and modelling assumptions, such as production function, water substitutability with other endowments, water mobility across sectors, and sectorial water intensity, in influencing the results. Finally, the paper develops a dynamic scenario analysis, showing that an enhanced representation of the Nexus can significantly affect the macroeconomic dynamics of the simulations and their regional implications. Improving fattening efficiency is an important goal of breeding commercial pigs, especially for the large-scale pig farms. Fattening efficiency index (FEI) can be used to evaluate the fattening efficiency. The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting the fattening efficiency of commercial pigs in large-scale pig farms and further study the impact of these factors on the production performance of commercial pig batches at different production levels. The data of 9,570 batches was mainly consisted of four parts (farm facilities, general information of piglets, production performance of nursery pigs and finishing pigs). A total of 28 variables were evaluated by the multi-variable linear regression models. The differences in production factors significantly correlated with FEI at piglets-finishing stage were compared among high-performing (HP), moderate-performing (MP), and low-performing (LP) batches of commercial pigs during the nursery and finishing stage. Among the 28 variables, 18 were significantly correlated with fattening efficiency (P < 0.05), including 11 continuous variables and seven discrete variables. The significant differences among the 11 consecutive variables in the HP, MP, and LP batches of commercial pigs mostly persisted from the piglets-nursery stage to the growing-finishing stage, ultimately affecting the FEI at piglets-finishing stage. For the seven significant discrete variables, the HP batches had a lower proportions in owned source of piglets, number of the purchasing piglets in spring and winter, number of batches in the East and North regions and five-way crossbred pigs, while a higher proportions in the use of closed circuit television video (CCTV) and wastes treatment system. The fattening efficiency of commercial pigs in large-scale pig farms was comprehensively affected by farm facilities, piglets, and production performance at nursery and finishing stage. The simultaneous abuse of alcohol-cocaine is known to cause stronger and more unpredictable cellular damage in the liver, heart, and brain. However, the mechanistic crosstalk between cocaine and alcohol in liver injury remains unclear. The findings revealed cocaine-induced liver injury and inflammation in both marmosets and mice. Of note, co-administration of cocaine and ethanol in mice causes more severe liver damage than individual treatment. The metabolomic analysis confirmed that hippuric acid (HA) is the most abundant metabolite in marmoset serum after cocaine consumption and that is formed in primary marmoset hepatocytes. HA, a metabolite of cocaine, increases mitochondrial DNA leakage and subsequently increases the production of proinflammatory factors via STING signaling in Kupffer cells (KCs). In addition, conditioned media of cocaine-treated KC induced hepatocellular necrosis via alcohol-induced TNFR1. Finally, disruption of STING signaling in vivo ameliorated co-administration of alcohol- and cocaine-induced liver damage and inflammation. These findings postulate intervention of HA-STING-TNFR1 axis as a novel strategy for treatment of alcohol- and cocaine-induced excessive liver damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Following spinal cord injury, the inflammatory environment at the injury site causes local microglia and astrocytes to activate, which worsens the nerve damage in the affected area. Quercetin, an anti-inflammatory agent, has been limited in spinal cord injury due to its poor water solubility and easy degradation. Stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles can go through the blood–brain barrier and are an ideal drug delivery system. In this study, umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles were used to load quercetin to prevent its degradation and allow it to accumulate at the site of spinal cord injury. Our results showed that quercetin-loaded extracellular vesicles could inhibit the activation of microglia to M1 phenotype through the TLR4/NF-κB pathway, and the activation of astrocytes to A1 phenotype through the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. This reduced the production of inflammatory factors, mitigated neuronal damage, and inhibited the growth of astroglial scar, but promoted the recovery of motor function in rats with spinal cord injury. The beef cattle farming business will have higher utility value if the production factors owned can be used effectively and efficiently to obtain a decent profit, thus ensuring the sustainability of the business for the welfare of the farmer. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing income, profitability and factors that influence beef cattle business income. The survey was carried out in Lolong Guna District, Buru Regency, which took place in August 2023. A total of 3 villages, namely Wanakarta, Waegeren and Grandeng villages, were determined as sample villages and 60 respondents were determined using purposive sampling with the criteria of having kept beef cattle for more than 3 years and carried out sales livestock in the past year. Income and profitability analysis was carried out to determine the feasibility of the business as well as multiple linear regression analysis to determine the factors that influence income. The average income from a beef cattle business is IDR. 4,492,900 per year with a profitability value of 47.37%. Factors that influence beef cattle business income are production costs, number of livestock marketed and livestock selling prices; while livestock ownership has no effect on income. Coastal fisheries in Tanjung Medang Village, North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency play an important role in shaping the economic characteristics and culture of its community. Physically, the North Rupat District is predominantly divided into residential areas along the inter-village roads and coastal areas that serve as the primary source of livelihood for most of its population. Now, North Rupat District has become a destination for both residents and visitors, impacting the existence of increasingly complex local economic resources and wisdom along the coastal areas of North Rupat District. Revitalization of coastal fisheries production factors is needed to improve economic life. Therefore, what model of economic development policy is needed to access traditional local economic resources to reduce local poverty? What kind of revitalization is required for traditional fishermen to utilize maritime economic resources fairly for the local population? The economic development policy for alternative marine economic resources involves integrating and collaborating the rights and obligations of state actors, private actors, and the public in maritime politics and economics. The revitalization of coastal fisheries production factors includes organizing the ecological integration of areas as traditional fishing grounds, tourism economic areas, and the originality of traditional culture across various disciplines, as well as fostering cultural integration among stakeholders and intergenerational concern among the Tanjung Medang community. Experiments were undertaken to estimate the yield losses due to Maruca vitrata (Fabricius) in kharif mungbean at Pulses Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur during kharif 2022. The yield losses were estimated using insect-infestation and chemical protection method in the recommended variety of mungbean, ML 1808. In insect-infestation method, at both the locations, the mean number of webs produced per plant after 5 days of insect infestation during first release and second release and pod damage were significantly lower in the infested treatment in comparison to the uninfested treatment. The yield losses were determined to be 21.93 per cent and 21.56 per cent at Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, respectively using this method. The outcome of chemical protection method at both the locations revealed that the mean number of larvae and webs per plant in the protected plots were significantly lower than unprotected plots after three and five days of two insecticide sprays. Pod damage was significantly higher in the unprotected plots than protected plots at both the locations. The yield losses were determined to be 21.30 per cent and 21.91 per cent in Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, respectively using chemical protection method. Such estimated yield losses can ultimately be linked to the production factors to identify opportunities for remedial actions that farmers can implement to reduce losses. In this study, the wild-type Bacillus cereus ATA179 was mutagenized by random UV mutagenesis to increase lipase production. The mutant with maximum lipolytic activity was named Bacillus cereus EV4. The mutant strain (10.6 U/mL at 24 h) produced 60% more enzyme than the wild strain (6.6 U/mL at 48 h). Nutritional factors on lipase production were investigated. Sucrose was the best carbon source, (NH4)2HPO4 was the best nitrogen source and CuSO4 was the best metal ion source. Mutant EV4 showed a 32% increase in lipase production in the modified medium. The optimum temperature and pH were found to be 60 °C and 7.0, respectively. CuSO4, CaCl2, LiSO4, KCl, BaCl2, and Tween 20 had an activating effect on the enzyme. Vmax and Km values were found to be 17.36 U/mL and 0.036 mM, respectively. The molecular weight was determined as 28.2 kDa. The activity of lipase was found to be stable up to 60 days at 20 °C, 75 days at 4 °C, and 90 days at −20 °C. The potential of lipase in the detergent industry was investigated. The enzyme was not affected by detergent additives but was effective in removing stains in fabrics contaminated with oily substances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRM197 (Cross Reacting Material 197) is an inactive form of the C. diphtheriae exotoxin used as a carrier protein for the development and production of conjugated polysaccharide vaccines and immunotherapeutic drugs. However, the development of these research areas is not possible without an efficient and cost-effective technology to produce CRM197 of the proper quality. In this study, we developed a highly efficient method to produce recombinant CRM197 as a fusion with SUMO protein, yielding more than three grams per liter in the form of inclusion bodies. We examined the significant effect of the type of expression vector, the heterologous gene expression conditions, and cultivation on its solubility. Using a combination of reduced cultivation temperature and the promoter of the gene encoding the heat shock protein CspA, we achieved an increase in the solubility level of SUMO-CRM197 of more than 30%, with an overall biosynthesis level of more than two grams per liter. Coexpression of the target gene with the DsbC disulfide isomerase gene allowed us to obtain the target protein completely in the soluble state with a yield of more than 1.4 grams per liter. The purpose of this research was to formulate, optimize, and characterize ambrisentan chitosan-coated LeciPlex (AMS-CTS-LPX) to increase the therapeutic effectiveness and bioavailability of ambrisentan. A central composite design (CCD) was implemented to assess the impact of various factors on the production of AMS-CTS-LPX and to identify the optimum formulation via the use of Design Expert® software. The assembly of AMS-CTS-LPX was conducted using a single-step process. Subsequently, the optimal formulation was chosen and subjected to further assessments. Further, a comparative pharmacokinetic study was carried out using a rat model. The optimized formulation exhibited an entrapment efficiency of 82.39%, with a diameter of 137.53 nm and a surface charge of +43.65 mV. Additionally, it had a sustained cumulative release of 90.41% after 8 h and showed good stability. The safety of AMS-CTS-LPX administered intratracheally was confirmed by in vivo histopathological studies. The pharmacokinetic investigations revealed a 5.6-fold increase in the bioavailability of AMS from the optimal AMS-CTS-LPX formulation compared to the oral AMS solution. Resistance to antibiotics is a critical growing public health problem that desires urgent action to combat. To avoid the stress on bacterial growth that evokes the resistance development, anti-virulence agents can be an attractive strategy as they do not target bacterial growth. Quorum sensing (QS) systems play main roles in controlling the production of diverse virulence factors and biofilm formation in bacteria. Thus, interfering with QS systems could result in mitigation of the bacterial virulence. Cilostazol is an antiplatelet and a vasodilator FDA approved drug. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-virulence activities of cilostazol in the light of its possible interference with QS systems in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Additionally, the study examines cilostazol's impact on the bacterium's ability to induce infection in vivo, using sub-inhibitory concentrations to minimize the risk of resistance development. In this context, the biofilm formation, the production of virulence factors and influence on the in vivo ability to induce infection were assessed in the presence of cilostazol at sub-inhibitory concentration. Furthermore, the outcome of combination with antibiotics was evaluated. Cilostazol interfered with biofilm formation in P. aeruginosa. Moreover, swarming motility, biofilm formation and production of virulence factors were significantly diminished. Histopathological investigation revealed that liver, spleen and kidney tissues damage was abolished in mice injected with cilostazol-treated bacteria. Cilostazol exhibited a synergistic outcome when used in combination with antibiotics. At the molecular level, cilostazol downregulated the QS genes and showed considerable affinity to QS receptors. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) has been shown to stimulate the production of myokines (i.e., brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)), but the most effective EMS parameters for myokine production have not been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study was to quantify the optimal EMS frequency for stimulating myokine production. This study included sixteen young adults (male, n = 13, age = 27.3 ± 5.5 years). Participants underwent four EMS interventions (20 min each) with the following conditions: (1) 4 Hz, (2) 20 Hz, (3) 80 Hz, and (4) control (no intervention). Blood samples were obtained before and immediately after EMS. For the control condition, blood samples were taken before and after 20 min of quiet sitting. BDNF and cathepsin-B levels were analyzed in serum. Compared to preintervention levels, stimulation at 20 Hz resulted in significantly greater postintervention cathepsin-B and BDNF levels (p < 0.01). On the other hand, the control condition did not result in a significant change between pre- and posttreatment. Furthermore, stimulation at 20 Hz caused significantly larger increases in cathepsin-B and BDNF levels than stimulation at 4–80 Hz or the control condition (p < 0.05). In conclusion, stimulation at 20 Hz effectively causes a robust cathepsin-B and BDNF response. Staphylococcus aureus, particularly drug-resistant strains, poses significant challenges in healthcare due to its ability to form biofilms, which confer increased resistance to antibiotics and immune responses. Building on previous knowledge that several flavonoids exhibit antibiofilm activity, this study sought to identify a novel flavonoid capable of effectively inhibiting biofilm formation and virulence factor production in S. aureus strains including MRSA. Among the 19 flavonoid-like compounds tested, 3,2′-dihydroxyflavone (3,2′-DHF) was identified for the first time as inhibiting biofilm formation and virulence factors in S. aureus with an MIC 75 µg/mL. The antibiofilm activity was further confirmed by microscopic methods. Notably, 3,2′-DHF at 5 µg/mL was effective in inhibiting both mono- and polymicrobial biofilms involving S. aureus and Candida albicans, a common co-pathogen. 3,2′-DHF reduces hemolytic activity, slime production, and the expression of key virulence factors such as hemolysin gene hla and nuclease gene nuc1 in S. aureus. These findings highlight the potential of 3,2′-DHF as a novel antibiofilm and antivirulence agent against both bacterial and fungal biofilms, offering a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics in the treatment of biofilm-associated infections. In industrial ecology, approaches have been developed to analyze the contribution of specific sectors to environmental impacts within supply chains. In economics, a range of methods addresses the forward linkage (use of output) and backward linkage (dependency on inputs) of sectors, and the analysis of key sectors. This article offers a formal investigation of the relationship between these. It shows that both the analysis of supply chain impacts and of intersectoral linkages can be seen as special cases of a more general hypothetical extraction method (HEM). In HEM, sectors' role is assessed as the effect of their removal on the input–output model's solution. HEM also allows for the (partial) extraction of individual transactions. HEM thus offers a flexible approach to assessing the contribution of one or several sectors, or transactions, or parts thereof, to value added or footprint of any final demand. It can be applied to study the environmental footprints of companies or intermediate products, the contribution of certain inputs to sectors, or the potential impact of disruptions of supply chains on producers and consumers. Many manufacturing firms face considerable difficulties in building export capacity and selling their products in international markets. These firms often struggle with unpredictable cost changes, logistical problems along the supply chain, and rising labor expenses that could threaten the competitive edge of manufacturing operations. As there is also a clear absence of practical export models tailored to the unique needs of industrial firms, our study aims to offer a more holistic approach to assessing the impact of cost components on enhancing export-oriented production capacity (EOPC), a perspective not comprehensively provided by the comparative advantage theory, the Heckscher–Ohlin model, or the resource-based theory. While offering a comprehensive analysis of cost components in production, we argue that adjusting the resources, managing the costs, and enhancing production efficiency can significantly improve the EOPC of the manufacturing firms. Using primary data collected from 200 manufacturing firms in Oman during the period 2012–2016, multiple regression analysis followed by descriptive statistical analysis together with a correlation matrix indicates strong positive relationships between the EOPC and factors such as the raw material cost (RMC), labor wages (LW), labor force (LF), and R&D costs (RND). Multicollinearity assessment shows VIF values below the threshold, suggesting reliable estimates. Interaction terms and market conditions were integrated into the model, enhancing its predictive accuracy. Preliminary multiple regression analysis confirms the significant impact of the RMC, LW, LF, and R&D on the EOPC, while highlighting the importance of market conditions in moderating these effects. The model's adjusted R2 value indicates a strong fit, showing that the independent variables account for a substantial proportion of the variance in the EOPC. Each variable's importance is reflected in its coefficient, while p-values assess the statistical significance, highlighting which factors are crucial for enhancing export capabilities. Specifically, low p-values for cost components, labor force size, and wages confirm their significant influence, and varying market conditions further modulate these effects, demonstrating the accurate interplay between internal and external factors. Adjustments in cost components under varying market scenarios were analyzed, indicating optimal strategies for increasing the EOPC. Of the five scenarios proposed to distribute the cost either among some variables while keeping others constant or among all the factors, the best-case scenario adjusted all variables together, resulting in a 20% increment in exports. We conclude with some practical and policy implications for governments to support industries in accessing cheap resources through tax reductions on imported raw materials and efficient supply chains, while promoting innovation, technology adoption, and R&D investment at the firm level. The present study examines the patterns of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Kazakhstan and draws comparisons with global trends. Based on statistical data spanning from 2000 to 2022, the study reveals that the growth of FDI in Kazakhstan has exhibited greater volatility and speed compared to developed nations. However, it is strongly associated with global FDI inflows and the growth of gross domestic product (GDP). This article aims to examine the patterns and determinants influencing FDI in Kazakhstan and to juxtapose these patterns with global trends. The main approach used in the study was systematic. The article's contribution lies in its provision of novel insights into the dynamics of FDI in Kazakhstan and its correlation with economic growth. Background: The gut microbiome plays a key role in the formation of livestock and poultry traits via serum metabolites, and empirical evidence has indicated these traits are sex-linked. Methods: We examined 106 chickens (54 male chickens and 52 female chickens) and analyzed cecal content samples and serum samples by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and non-targeted metabolomics, respectively. Results: The cecal microbiome of female chickens was more stable and more complex than that of the male chickens. Lactobacillus and Family XIII UCG-001 were enriched in male chickens, while Eubacterium_nodatum_group, Blautia, unclassified_Anaerovoraceae, Romboutsia, Lachnoclostridium, and norank_ Muribaculaceae were enriched in female chickens. Thirty-seven differential metabolites were identified in positive mode and 13 in negative mode, showing sex differences. Sphingomyelin metabolites possessed the strongest association with cecal microbes, while 11β-hydroxytestosterone showed a negative correlation with Blautia. Conclusion: These results support the role of sexual dimorphism of the cecal microbiome and metabolome and implicate specific gender factors associated with production performance in chickens. The use of methods for recognizing surface defects in order to automate the process of visual non-destructive testing in production of rolled thin-sheet materials is becoming an increasingly urgent task. The use of automated systems for recognizing surface defects leads to early detection of damage and determination of their class and level of danger. After classifying a defect, the system makes a decision on further actions without the operator participation. The presence of such systems prevents the equipment downtime and reduces the impact of the human factor on production. The classifier performance rates were determined and analysis of the current techniques for determining surface defects was performed. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods are determined. The feasibility of using a method was analyzed depending on the type of surface and geometric characteristics of a defect. The expediency of using several methods to ensure more accurate recognition of surface defects is determined. Significant prospects for the application of machine learning methods based on neural networks are noted. The prospect of using neural networks in the systems for automated recognition of surface defects is predetermined by the possibility of automatic selection of features from the image, as well as processing of complex structures. Improving the efficiency of factor allocation in food production is the foundation for accelerating the formation of new quality productivity and achieving an agricultural green transformation. However, there has been no scholarly focus on their mechanisms and the interactions involved. This exploration is an important reference for enhancing the green production capacity of major grain-producing areas. In this study, 13 prefecture-level cities in Heilongjiang Province, China's largest grain production base, were selected as the research samples. A model for identifying factor misallocation and grain green total factor productivity (AGGTFP) was constructed to identify the spatiotemporal differences in factor misallocation and green total factor productivity. A fixed effects model was used to explore the impact of single-factor misallocation and the interaction of dual-factor misallocation with AGGTFP. The results show that from 2004 to 2022, the AGGTFP in 13 prefecture-level cities in Heilongjiang Province has shown a slow growth trend. The inhibitory effects of single-factor misallocation of land, labor, and capital on green total factor productivity are sequentially enhanced. The interaction effects of capital misallocation and labor misallocation and labor misallocation and land misallocation strengthen the inhibitory effects of misallocation on the AGGTFP. The physical characteristics of coal reservoirs are important factors affecting the occurrence status of coalbed methane, as well as key factors restricting the production capacity. Therefore, taking 3# coal in Qinnan region of China as the research object, based on the actual production data of 200 coalbed methane wells in the research area, experimental testing combined with simulation analysis was used to explore the physical properties of medium and high-order reservoirs and their impact on the occurrence and production of coalbed methane. The characteristics of coalbed methane reservoir formation and production capacity changes in the research area were revealed, and the factors restricting the production capacity of coalbed methane wells were calculated using the gray correlation analysis method. The results indicate that the micropores in the coal reservoir in the study area are well-developed, while the macropores and mesopores (exogenous fractures) are underdeveloped, the surface of the micropores is complex, and the connectivity of the micropores is poor, resulting in reservoirs with high gas adsorption characteristics and low permeability. The fractal characteristics of pores and fractures can reflect the permeability characteristics of reservoirs. Permeability is positively correlated with macropores (exogenous fractures) and mesopores, and negatively correlated with micropores. There is a positive correlation between permeability and productivity, and the reservoir in the study area has a stress-sensitive boundary. The main factors restricting productivity under the complex pore and fracture system of high-rank coal reservoir were identified, and the gray relational analysis method was used to evaluate the development effect of the research area. The HZ 26-B buried hill reservoir is located in the eastern part of the South China Sea. This reservoir is characterized by the development of natural fractures, a high density, and a complex geological structure, featuring an upper condensate gas layer and a lower volatile oil layer. These characteristics present significant challenges for oilfield exploration. To address these challenges, this study employed advanced embedded discrete fracture methods to conduct comprehensive numerical simulations of the fractured buried hill reservoirs. By meticulously characterizing the flow mechanisms within these reservoirs, the study not only reveals their unique characteristics but also establishes an embedded discrete fracture numerical model at the oilfield scale. Furthermore, a combination of single-factor sensitivity analysis and the Pearson correlation coefficient method was used to identify the primary controlling factors affecting the development of complex condensate reservoirs in ancient buried hills. The results indicate that the main factors influencing the production capacity are the matrix permeability, geomechanical effects, and natural fracture length. In contrast, the impact of the threshold pressure gradient and bottomhole flow pressure is relatively weak. This study's findings provide a scientific basis for the efficient development of the HZ 26-B oilfield and offer valuable references and insights for the exploration and development of similar fractured buried hill reservoirs. Inter-well frac-hit has become an important challenge in the development of unconventional oil and gas resources such as fractured tight sandstone. Due to the presence of hydraulic fracturing fractures, secondary induced fractures, natural fractures, and other seepage media in real formations, the acquisition of stress fields requires the coupling effect of seepage and stress. In this process, there is also stress sensitivity, which leads to unclear dynamic evolution laws of stress fields and increases the difficulty of the staged multi-cluster fracturing of horizontal wells. The use of a multi-stage stress-sensitive horizontal well production stress field prediction model is an effective means of analyzing the influence of natural fracture parameters, main fracture parameters, and multi-stage stress sensitivity coefficients on the stress field. This article considers multi-stage stress sensitivity and, based on fractured sandstone reservoir parameters, establishes a numerical model for the dynamic evolution of the production stress field in horizontal wells with matrix self-supporting fracture-supported fracture–seepage–stress coupling. The influence of various factors on the production stress field is analyzed. The results show that under constant pressure production, for low-permeability reservoirs, multi-stage stress sensitivity has a relatively low impact on reservoir stress, and the amplitude of principal stress change in the entire fracture length direction is only within the range of 0.27%, with no significant change in stress distribution; The parameters of the main fracture have a significant impact on the stress field, with a variation amplitude of within 2.85%. The ability of stress to diffuse from the fracture tip to the surrounding areas is stronger, and the stress concentration area spreads from an elliptical distribution to a semi-circular distribution. The random natural fracture parameters have a significant impact on pore pressure. As the density and angle of the fractures increase, the pore pressure changes within the range of 3.32%, and the diffusion area of pore pressure significantly increases, making it easy to communicate with the reservoir on both sides of the fractures. In this work, a multivariate analysis was carried out, using a Plackett–Burman (PB) design involving seventeen growth parameters, on carotenoids production of Pavlova gyrans (p < 0.10). Each assay was analysed regarding its content (mg g−1) of fucoxanthin (Fx), diatoxanthin, diadinoxanthin, β-carotene (βCar), α-carotene, and the sum of all carotenoids analysed individually (TCar). According to the statistical analysis, modified medium formulations were developed for the particular cases of Fx, βCar, and TCar. The study showed that Fx content was positively affected by nitrogen supplementation and lower light intensities. Higher concentrations of nitrogen and iron increased the final content of βCar as well. Similarly, salinity, light intensity, nitrogen, iron, and cobalt were identified as key factors in TCar production. The PB-based formulations showed significant improvements (p < 0.05) for TCar (11.794 mg g−1) and Fx (6.153 mg g−1) when compared to the control conditions (Walne's medium—2.010 mg g−1). Furthermore, effective control of key variables (e.g., light intensity) throughout P. gyrans growth proved successful (p < 0.05), increasing the productivity of Fx (0.759 mg L−1 d−1) and TCar (1.615 mg L−1 d−1). The interest in medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) has increased significantly in recent years, driven by the growing demand for natural products. MAPs are a valuable source of secondary metabolites, which renders them useful to a number of industries, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food. The Lamiaceae family includes economically important MAPs that produce valuable secondary metabolites such as essential oils (EOs) and phenolic compounds (PCs). The quantity and quality of these secondary metabolites are affected by abiotic stress factors. In a climate change scenario, the Lamiaceae is one of the most affected families, especially due to its wide distribution in the Mediterranean region. In the present study, the most common climate-related environmental stress factors, namely, drought, salinity, temperature, light, and heavy metals, were reviewed and discussed in order to assess their impact on the chemical profiles of EOs and PCs, as well as on the biological properties (antioxidant, antibacterial, antimelanogenic, pest-repellent, and UV-protective) of Lamiaceae species. It can be posited that these stresses typically act as a catalyst for the secondary metabolism of these plants, resulting in increased production of EO compounds (e.g., 1,8-cineole, linalool, camphor, borneol, and limonene) and PCs (e.g., rosmarinic, caffeic, and salvianolic acids) and subsequent enhancement of their biological activities. In view of the industrial applications of these bioactive compounds, it is of interest to explore the changes in secondary metabolism induced by environmental factors as it is possible to increase the accumulation of valuable secondary metabolites. Introduction: Laying performance is a key factor affecting production efficiency in poultry, but its molecular mechanism is still indistinct. In this study, Yaoshan chickens, a local breed in Guizhou, China, and merchant chickens (GYR) with higher egg yield after the three-line cross improvement hybridization of Yaoshan chickens were used as animal samples. Methods: To explore the regulatory mechanism of the diversities in laying performance, RNA-seq and ultra-performance liquid chromatographytandem mass spectrometry (UPLC--MS/MS) were used to describe the transcriptional and metabolic profiles of the ovaries of Yaoshan and GYR chickens. Results: At the transcriptional level, 288 differentially expressed genes were upregulated in Yaoshan chickens and 353 differentially expressed genes were upregulated in GYR chickens. In addition, GSEA showed that ECM-receptor interactions and the TGF-β signaling pathway were restrained, resulting in increased egg production in GYR chickens. Furthermore, the upregulation of thiamine and carnitine was identified by metabolomic analysis to facilitate the laying performance of hens. Finally, comprehensive analyses of the transcriptome and metabolome found that thiamine and carnitine were negatively correlated with ECM-receptor interactions and the TGF-β signaling pathway, which jointly regulate the laying performance of Yaoshan chickens and GYR chickens. Discussion: Taken together, our research delineates differences in the transcriptional and metabolic profiles of the ovaries of Yaoshan and GYR chickens during the peak egg production period and provides new hypotheses and clues for further research on poultry egg production performance and the improvement of economic benefits. The concept and influence of untraded inter‐dependencies are under‐explored in the industrial cluster and informal economy literature. In this paper, we attempt to bridge this gap by extending the conventional Cobb‐Douglas production function to operationalising and testing the moderating effects of two forms of untraded inter‐dependencies in informal production. Based on the diffusion theory, we argue that knowledge‐sharing would favour informal production, as opposed to tool‐sharing. Using quantitative methods, 334 informal artisans were randomly sampled from three clusters in the Kumasi Metropolis of Ghana and analysed data obtained with moderating models and simple slopes plots. The tested models and fuzzy set configurations confirmed that knowledge‐sharing, but not tool‐sharing, has significant interaction effects on informal production. The optimal model derived would be one in which capital interacts with incremental knowledge‐sharing at the existing level of tool‐sharing among the artisans. This paper serves as an extension of new economic geography with an additional factor of untraded inter‐dependencies. As part of post‐COVID restoration and enhancement of informal production processes, we recommend city officials to deliberately plan and space clustered enterprises that enable the observed rates of interactions between production factors and untraded inter‐dependencies. Members of the bacterial genus Burkholderia are a routine threat to onion production worldwide. In addition to the common onion‐pathogenic species, Burkholderia cepacia, Burkholderia orbicola and Burkholderia gladioli, other Burkholderia species have the potential to cause onion disease. Despite their impacts and long‐known association with onion disease, the virulence mechanisms of onion‐pathogenic Burkholderia are far less well understood than Burkholderia in human and murine infection models. In this review, we will focus on genetically characterized virulence factors in species that contribute to symptom production in onion and other plant hosts. Specifically, we will focus on the variable roles of specialized protein secretion systems (T2SS, T3SS and T4SS) and secreted proteins, thiosulphinate tolerance gene (TTG) clusters and the well‐characterized phytotoxin toxoflavin in virulence. The regulation and roles of LuxI/LuxS quorum‐sensing system and IclR‐type transcriptional regulator, qsmR, as master regulators of secondary metabolite production and virulence factors will also be discussed. The TTG clusters, involved in bacterial tolerance to thiosulphinate defence compounds, exhibit onion tissue‐specific contributions to virulence. In the study of urban development, it is very important to evaluate the influence of production factors reasonably and efficiently for the region to achieve efficient development. The principal aim of this investigation is to amalgamate the conventional measurement model characterized by robust interpretability with the non-parametric model characterized by limited interpretability, thereby enhancing the precision of research outcomes. Towards this objective, the study employs an optimized directional distance function integrated with a global Malmquist–Luenberger index to formulate a comprehensive total factor productivity measurement framework. In elucidating the homogeneous attributes of regions, departing from prior methodologies reliant on manual or direct algorithmic partitioning, this paper employs the K-means clustering algorithm for index discernment, abstracting the concept of K-means clustering centroids to encapsulate regional homogeneity, thereby delineating results through the visualization of regional development potential maps and the evolution of centroid-based clustering trend maps. The findings of the investigation illuminate common patterns of change across disparate regions, proposing a strategy for leveraging regional resource endowments towards a cohesive framework, thereby transcending constraints imposed by production efficiency limitations. Amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study draws upon provincial-level data spanning from 2000 to 2018 in China. The conclusive analytical outcomes underscore the pivotal role of energy factors in regional development efficiency, particularly within high-potential development regions, followed by the capital and labor factors. This paper focuses on county-level grain production and food security in North China; selects 17 indicators from both climatic conditions and human activities; applies yield fluctuation coefficients, spatial econometric modelling, the random forest method, and factor analysis to study the characteristics of grain production in North China and the influencing factors; and evaluates the situation of food security in North China based on grain production capacity. The following results were obtained: (1) The spatial and temporal changes in grain production located in North China from 2000 to 2020 are obvious. The grain output in North China from 2000 to 2020 maintains fluctuating growth at a rate of 0.38 × 1011 kg/10a. The east and south are the key areas for grain production in North China. Grain output was relatively stable except for 2003. with the cold spots of grain production being mainly in the northwestern area and the hot spots in the central and southern areas. (2) The changes in grain production in North China from 2000 to 2020 were less affected by climate and mainly influenced by human activity indicators. (3) As time progresses, the area of food shortage zones decreases in size, becoming evenly distributed and dispersed from the initial concentration in northern Hebei and most of Shanxi; the change in the supply–demand equilibrium zones is not obvious; and the area of surplus grain zones increases markedly in size, with a tendency to expand from the south and centre of the study area to the west and north. The grain production capacity of counties in the northwest and north is generally low, and even counties located in surplus grain areas have potential food security risks. However, in the east and south, due to their high grain production capacity, the per capita grain supply situation may be alleviated even in counties located in grain shortage areas. This study can deepen the understanding of the characteristics of food production in North China and enrich the research on food security. Analyses of factors influencing food production will improve a deeper understanding of food security. The southern region of the department of Córdoba, Colombia, in the last ten years has shown growth in the cultivation of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) as an alternative to replace illicit crops and improve the quality of life of the families that They have gone through armed conflict. The production system has shown potential given its yields that exceed the national average; However, there is no evidence of the presence of a study that investigates the efficiency in the allocation or investment of resources. The objective of the work was to determine the technical efficiency of this crop with information obtained from a structured survey applied to 158 cocoa farmers in the municipalities of Puerto Libertador, Montelíbano, Tierralta and Valencia. The information obtained contained technical and socioeconomic variables that allowed calculating the current state of the technical efficiency of cocoa cultivation for this region of the country. The technique used was the stochastic frontier through the estimation of parameters by the least squares method to a Cobb Douglas type production function. Although the yields are not low, the results show that the farmer has a technical efficiency of 39%, attributed to underutilization of resources resulting in a production gap. Summary: Previous studies demonstrated the interrelationship between antioxidant activity and solvent extracts prepared according to cultivars and plant parts of Centella asiatica (CA) cultivated in Korea. In this study, the macrophage‐stimulating activity of solvent extracts was assayed, and we analysed the characteristics of the active fractions of these extracts and the mechanisms underlying the macrophage‐stimulating activity of these fractions. Treatment of macrophages with cold water (CW) extracts (GO‐L‐CW) prepared from the leaves (L) of the 'GOOD' (GO) cultivar significantly increased the secretion of immunostimulatory factors. Specifically, the high molecular weight (HMW) fraction (GO‐L‐CW‐HMW) isolated from GO‐L‐CW potently activated the secretion of immunostimulatory factors and increased the mRNA levels of genes encoding these factors or involved in the production of these factors. In addition, GO‐L‐CW‐HMW triggered the phosphorylation of ERK and p38 of MAPK along with p65 and IκBα of the NF‐κB family in the intracellular signalling pathway. The GO‐L‐CW‐HMW was identified as a complex polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 93–129 kDa. Around 10.5 million tonnes of sheep milk are produced worldwide, and around 3.1 million tonnes in Europe. In Europe, sheep milk production has stagnated slightly in recent years and currently accounts for around 1/3 of the global production. Due to its high content of dry matter, milk fat, total protein and casein, sheep milk is an excellent raw material for cheese production. Milk processing and cheese making are not only economically important, but also part of the cultural heritage based on a long tradition, often taking place in rural and less developed areas. Milk production and quality are very complex and are influenced by numerous factors, the most important of which are breed, feeding and body condition, parity and stage of lactation, milking and udder health, and environmental factors. In addition, different types of stress such as heat stress, nutritional stress, weaning stress, shearing stress, stress of regrouping, etc. have a significant impact on the welfare and health of the sheep as well as on the quantity of milk produced, its chemical composition, processing characteristics and the economic efficiency of the flock. In recent years, due to climate change, there has been an increasing number of studies on the effects of heat stress on the reproductive and production characteristics of sheep, as well as on their welfare and health. In addition, heat stress is often associated to the feed and the lack of water. The effects of stress are particularly pronounced in extensive sheep farming and milk production, which are prevalent in sheep farming. Since the 1960s and the reduction in the share of agricultural sector in GDP in different countries, based on extensive forward and backward linkages of the agricultural sector, the concept of agribusiness has been introduced to explain the valuable contribution of agriculture to the national economy. This paper estimates the share of agribusiness in gross domestic product using input-output tables for 1986, 1991, 2001, and 2016. The results showed that the contribution of agribusinesses to GDP was about 2.5 times that of agricultural production (the average share of agribusinesses in 1986-2016 was about 23%, while the corresponding figure for agricultural value added was 9.25%). In a similar trend to developing and developed countries, the share of agribusinesses in GDP had decreased from 27.2 to 17% in 1986-2016. However, the examination of the components of agribusinesses in Iran compared to other countries shows significant differences, which can be attributed to Iran's arid and semi-arid climate, low rate of capital formation, low productivity of production factors, as well as lack of participation in regional and global chains due to long-term sanctions imposed on the economy. This paper analyzes the characteristics of Mexico's productive and commercial integration from 1995 to 2018. It offers a framework to understand how the sectors of the Mexican economy are integrated into global value chains (gvc). The methodology developed by Wang, Wei, Yu, and Zhu (2017a and 2017b) is applied to the interregional input-output matrices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (oecd). With this, two questions are answered: 1) What percentage of production factors used in Mexican sectors have been involved in activities of segmented production or gvc between countries? And 2) what percentage of final products produced by sectors in Mexico come from gvc activities? The results indicate that the sectors of the Mexican economy have higher participation indexes in backward linkages, which shows a higher share of imported intermediate inputs, compared to their respective participation indexes in forward linkages. The latter represents inputs from the country in exports and production of goods from third countries. Additionally, the results indicate that any policy design aimed at promoting specific activities should take into account the increasing integration of countries and their sectors gvc on a global scale, regardless of their level of development.
