Excessive use of N fertilizers (driven by high-yield goals) and its consequent environmental problems are becoming increasingly acute in agricultural systems. A 2-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of three N application methods (application of solid granular urea once (OF) or twice (TF), application of solid granular urea mixed with controlled-release urea once (MF)), and six N rates (0, 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 kg N ha−1) on maize yield, economic benefits, N use efficiency, and soil N balance in the maize (Zea mays L.) film mulching system on the Loess Plateau, China. The grain yield and economic return of maize were significantly affected by the N rate and application method. Compared with the OF treatment, the MF treatment not only increased the maize yield (increased by 9.0–16.7%) but also improved the economic return (increased by 10.9–25.8%). The agronomic N use efficiency (NAE), N partial factor productivity (NPFP) and recovery N efficiency (NRE) were significantly improved by 19.3–66.7, 9.0–16.7 and 40.2–71.5%, respectively, compared with the OF treatment. The economic optimal N rate (EONR) of the OF, TF, and MF was 145.6, 147.2, and 144.9 kg ha−1 in 2019, and 206.4, 186.4, and 146.0 kg ha−1 in 2020, respectively. The apparent soil N loss at EONR of the OF, TF, and MF were 97.1–100.5, 78.5–79.3, and 50.5–68.1 kg ha−1, respectively. These results support MF as a one-time N application method for delivering high yields and economic benefits, with low N input requirements within film mulching spring maize system on the Loess Plateau.

Abstract Background MRI has been widely used to predict the preoperative proliferative potential of pituitary adenoma (PA). However, the relationship between the cyst/tumor volume ratio (C/T ratio) and the proliferative potential of PA has not been reported. Herein, we determined the predictive value of the C/T ratio of PA for tumor cell proliferation. Methods The clinical data of 72 patients with PA and cystic change on MRI were retrospectively analyzed. PA volume, cyst volume, and C/T ratio were calculated. The corresponding intraoperative specimens were collected. Immunohistochemistry and hematoxylin–eosin staining were performed to evaluate the Ki67 index and nuclear atypia. Abstract Observational studies have suggested that insulin resistance (IR) is associated with hypertension and various cardiovascular diseases. However, the presence of a causal relationship between IR and cardiovascular disease remains unclear. Here, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) approaches to address the causal association between genetically determined IR and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Our primary genetic instruments comprised 53 SNPs associated with IR phenotype from a GWAS of up to 188,577 participants. Genetic association estimates for hypertension and venous thromboembolism (VTE) were extracted from UK Biobank, estimates for atrial fibrillation (AF) were extracted from the hitherto largest GWAS meta-analysis on AF, estimates for heart failure were extracted from HERMES Consortium, estimates for peripheral artery disease (PAD) and aortic aneurysm were extracted from the FinnGen Study. The main analyses were performed using the random-effects inverse-variance weighted approach, and complemented by sensitivity analyses and multivariable MR analyses. Corresponding to 55% higher fasting insulin adjusted for body mass index, 0.46 mmol/L lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and 0.89 mmol/L higher triglyceride, one standard deviation change in genetically predicted IR was associated with increased risk of hypertension (odds ratio (OR) 1.06, 95% CI 1.04–1.08; P = 1.91 × 10–11) and PAD (OR 1.90, 95% CI 1.43–2.54; P = 1.19 × 10–5). Suggestive evidence was obtained for an association between IR and heart failure (OR per SD change in IR: 1.19, 95% CI 1.01–1.41, P = 0.041). There was no MR evidence for an association between genetically predicted IR and atrial fibrillation, VTE, and aortic aneurysm. Results were widely consistent across all sensitivity analyses. In multivariable MR, the association between IR and PAD was attenuated after adjustment for lipids (P = 0.347) or BMI (P = 0.163). Our findings support that genetically determined IR increases the risk of hypertension and PAD.

Over the past decade, the attrition rate of Chinese medical graduates has remained high, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this situation. Medicine specialty students are the main force of the future healthcare industry. The career choices and career confidence of those entering the healthcare industry will have a huge influence on the quality of future healthcare provision. Considering the possible emergence of public health emergencies such as COVID-19 in the future, helping students develop good career adaptability will contribute to their future career development. However, the relationship between career adaptability, career coping styles and career decision-making self-efficacy remains unclear during the COVID-19. This study aims to examine the interconnections amongst career coping styles, career adaptability and career decision-making self-efficacy among Chinese medicine specialty students and the mediating role of career decision-making self-efficacy. Questionnaire survey was conducted on 747 medicine specialty students from China. The results showed that positive coping style has a significant positive correlation with career decision-making self-efficacy, career adaptability, and their sub-dimensions. There was a partial mediating effect of career decision self-efficacy between the predictor variable positive coping style and the outcome variable career adaptability. By promoting the level of positive coping style or career decision-making self-efficacy among medicine specialty students, the career adaptability can be directly or indirectly enhanced. This survey will help to guide future medical education decisions during a similar pandemic to prevent further loss of healthcare professionals in the medical service.

Water stress is the most important factor limiting crop production in arid and semiarid regions. Cultivating crops using a plastic film mulch can significantly increase crop yields by optimizing soil hydrothermal conditions in semiarid agroecosystems. Therefore, clarifying root adaptability to plastic film mulch cultivation is crucial when attempting to produce stable and high maize yields. A two-year experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of two treatments, no mulching (NM) and plastic film mulching (FM), on the yield, water productivity (WP), and root morphology of spring maize on the Loess Plateau. The results showed that the FM yield (14.31–15.02 t ha–1) significantly increased by 18.6–29.7 % compared to NM (11.03–12.66 t ha–1). The FM treatment also significantly increased dry matter (51.0–61.6 %), leaf area (19.7–25.7 %), and WP (28.8–46.3 %), but decreased ET (8.6–12.8 %). In addition, soil water storage in the FM surface soil layer significantly increased compared to that of NM. Film mulching also produced more robust roots and promoted the convergence of roots towards the surface of the soil, whereas NM roots tended to grow downwards to obtain water from the lower soil layers. The regression analyses indicated that root length (R2 = 0.725, P < 0.01) and biomass (R2 = 0.736, P < 0.01) were positively correlated with grain yield. The results suggested that maize adapts to changes in root morphological behavior under FM. These changes contribute to soil water and nutrient capture and shoot development, which subsequently support the high yields produced under plastic film mulching. Therefore, film mulching is a promising strategy for improving yield and WP and for optimizing root morphology in dryland agriculture.

Abstract The reversible pump‐turbine plays an important role in hydropower stations, but pressure pulsation during their operation affects their performance and lifespan. Accurate prediction of pressure pulsation signals can provide an important basis for energy planning and stable operation of pumped storage units, thereby promoting sustainable development of the environment. This study introduces an optimization method that combines long short‐term memory (LSTM) and variable mode decomposition (VMD) to enhance the prediction accuracy of pressure pulsation signals. First, by decomposing the pressure pulsation signal into multiple relatively stable subsequence components using VMD, the characteristics of the original signal become more distinct. Subsequently, individual LSTM‐based time series prediction models were constructed for each modal function, and the hyperparameters related to subsequence were optimized using the sparrow search algorithm. To validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, this paper conducted experiments using pressure pulsation signals of a pump‐turbine obtained through numerical simulation. The experimental data was divided into training and testing sets, with the former used to train the LSTM model and the latter used for validation. The experimental results show that the optimized VMD with an optimized LSTM method can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of pressure pulsation signals in reversible pump‐turbine.

Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (CyanoHABs) in inland waters are now among the most pressing environmental issues worldwide, especially in China. Satellite remote sensing has limitations in monitoring CyanoHABs in small water bodies due to spatial and temporal resolution limitations. While literature and news media have the potential to supplement satellite remote sensing in monitoring CyanoHABs, they have currently not received sufficient attention. In this study, we combined information on the distributions of CyanoHABs from literature and media for the first time to comprehensively assess the spatiotemporal variation in CyanoHABs in China. We collected, cleaned, validated, and organized data from literature and media on CyanoHABs in China, resulting in the establishment of a comprehensive database on CyanoHABs in China's inland waters (ChinaCyanoDB) covering 198 water bodies, 525 records for 1950–2021. The majority of water bodies with CyanoHABs (CyanoWaters) are located in the eastern China, mainly concentrated in the middle and lower Yangtze region, with a clear upward trend in their number over the last four decades. The ChinaCyanoDB and analytical results can provide valuable data support for monitoring and managing CyanoHABs in China while the database construction method may also be applied to other countries and regions.

The unique ore-forming processes and the key factors responsible for formation of skarn deposits are still obscure, and challenges exist in the determination of timing of Pb-Zn skarns owing to lacking suitable mineral chronometers. Here we present detailed paragenesis, bulk geochemistry, in situ U-Pb dating of zircon and garnet, and garnet oxygen isotopes together with in situ zircon Hf-O isotopes from the newly discovered Aqishan Pb-Zn deposit in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), northwest China. This comprehensive data set revealed a Late Carboniferous subduction-related distal Pb-Zn skarn system associated with the granitic magmatism. Pre-ore stage garnets are generally subhedral to euhedral with oscillatory zoning and show slightly fractionated rare earth element patterns with positive Eu anomalies that point to an infiltration metasomatism origin under high water/rock ratios. The syn-ore stage sphalerite is typically enriched in Mn and Cd and has moderate Zn/Cd ratios (337–482), with a formation temperature of 265 °C to 383 °C, which indicate magmatic-hydrothermal signatures. The isocons defined by P2O5 decipher that the principal factors for skarn formation were elevated activities of Fe, Ca, and Si species, where remobilization of Pb metals, meanwhile, contributed to ore-forming budgets to mineralizing fluids. SIMS U-Pb dating of zircons from granite porphyry that occurs distal to the skarns and Pb-Zn orebodies shows that these intrusions emplaced at ca. 311.3–310.6 Ma, recording the subduction of the Paleo-Tianshan oceanic plate. Hydrothermal garnets in close textural association with Pb-Zn sulfides yield indistinguishable in situ LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of 310.5 ± 4.1 Ma. Whole-rock geochemistry and in situ zircon Hf-O isotopes (δ18O = 4.6‰–6.0‰) indicate that the granite porphyry was derived from partial melting of juvenile crust and influenced by subducted oceanic crust. Oxygen isotope compositions of garnets (δ18O = 8.0‰–9.0‰) demonstrate that the equilibrated ore fluids were inherited from fluid-rock interactions between a primary magmatic water and host tuff rocks. Our study highlights the application of garnets as a potential robust U-Pb geochronometer and isotopic tracer of ore fluids in skarn mineralizing systems in subduction-related arc environments.

Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (CyanoHABs) pose significant environmental threats in China's large, shallow, and turbid lakes. Current satellite remote sensing methods for monitoring CyanoHABs in turbid water are limited in accuracy and frequency. The commonly used spectral index approaches often misidentify CyanoHABs by highly turbid water, and the segmentation threshold algorithms are not robust enough. Additionally, the dynamic nature of CyanoHABs requires high temporal resolution, which commonly used remote sensing data fail to provide. This study proposed a novel monitoring method utilizing a new spectral index, Anti-Turbid Algal Bloom Index (ATBI), specifically designed to minimize the impact of highly turbid water, coupled with an iterative triangle algorithm for automated ATBI threshold determination. We applied this approach to MODIS data from both Terra and Aqua satellites, achieving a temporal resolution of 0.5 days. The validation results show that the new method has a high accuracy with an F1-score of 0.85, which is higher than the commonly used algorithms with an F1-score of approximately 0.60. Utilizing this approach, we analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution of CyanoHABs in China's large lakes from 2000 to 2022, including Lakes Hulunhu, Chaohu and Taihu. Notably, Lake Hulunhu exhibited an increase in frequency and duration of CyanoHABs, while Lakes Chaohu and Taihu showed a rise in duration but a decline in frequency post 2018 and 2017, respectively. Air temperature and wind speed are critical factors influencing CyanoHABs variations in these lakes. Comparative analysis using data from Terra, Aqua, and both satellites combined demonstrated that the integrated data captures more accurate CyanoHABs information. These findings showed that our method can enhance CyanoHABs monitoring capabilities and offer insights for future research.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Lyophyllum decastes β-glucan (LDBG) in preventing high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in male C57BL/6 mice, focusing on fecal gut microbiota (GM) and plasma metabolomics. LDBG treatment led to a reduction in body weight and an improvement in dyslipidemia in the HFD-fed mice. Additionally, LDBG decreased pro-inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) in liver and abdominal adipose tissue and lowered lipopolysaccharide and leptin levels in plasma. LDBG also up-regulated mRNA levels of intestinal epithelial tight junction proteins, such as Occludin, Claudin-1, and zonula occludens-1 in colon tissue. Furthermore, 16S rRNA gene sequencing data suggested that LDBG reduced the relative abundance of Faecalibaculum and Ileibacterium while increasing that of Bifidobacterium and Oscillospiraceae. Untargeted metabolomics showed that LDBG significantly promoted Tryptophan metabolism, Glycerophospholipid metabolism, and the Citrate cycle, closely correlating with GM changes, particularly in Oscillospiraceae genera. This study demonstrates the potential of LDBG as a prebiotic in obesity prevention by regulating metabolite pathways.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the main cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide and a major public issue affecting the health of people. Therefore, it is essential to explore effective drugs for the treatment of DN. In this study, the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, Zhijun Tangshen Decoction (ZJTSD), a prescription modified from the classical formula Didang Decoction, has been used in the clinical treatment of DN. However, the chemical basis underlying the therapeutic effects of ZJTSD in treating DN remains unknown. In this study, compounds of ZJTSD and serum after oral administration in rats were identified and analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q/TOF-MS). Meanwhile, a semi-quantitative approach was used to analyze the dynamic changes in the compounds of ZJTSD in vivo. UPLC-Q/TOF-MS analysis identified 190 compounds from ZJTSD, including flavonoids, anthraquinones, terpenoids, phenylpropanoids, alkaloids, and other categories. A total of 156 xenobiotics and metabolites, i.e., 51 prototype compounds and 105 metabolites, were identified from the compounds absorbed into the blood of rats treated with ZJTSD. The results further showed that 23 substances with high relative content, long retention time, and favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics in vivo deserved further investigations and validations of bioactivities. In conclusion, this study revealed the chemical basis underlying the complexity of ZJTSD and investigated the metabolite profiling and pharmacokinetics of ZJTSD-related xenobiotics in rats, thus providing a foundation for further investigation into the pharmacodynamic substance basis and metabolic regulations of ZJTSD.

Integrated geochemical, U-Pb zircon, and Pb isotopic data from granitoids of the Wulandele porphyry molybdenum deposit, northeastern Inner Mongolia, are reported to disclose the possible magmatic process and Mo ore-forming process. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating constrains the timing of the quartz diorite and monzonitic granite to 282 ± 2.4 Ma and 135.4 ± 2.1 Ma, respectively. The ages are accordant with geological facts which state that the shallow Permian granitoids are only the ore-hosting rock while the concealed Cretaceous fine-grained granite is the causative intrusion. Whole-rock geochemical data show that the granitoids belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series, and are enriched in LILEs, but depleted in HSFEs. Permian granitoids exhibit I-type characteristics, while Cretaceous granite is akin to A-type granite. Pb isotopic ratios are consistent between Permian granitoids and Cretaceous granite with ratios of 206Pb/204Pb = 18.048–18.892, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.488–15.571, and 208Pb/204Pb = 37.066–38.441. Considering geological and geochemical features together, Permian granitoids are interpreted as subduction-related continental margin high-K calc-alkaline rocks, while Cretaceous granite may be the result of the remelting of the relic Permian arc in an extensional environment induced by the rollback of the Paleo-Pacific plate. Different from classical porphyry-type deposits, the Wulandele Mo deposit, which formed in an intraplate tectonic setting, indicates that the intraplate porphyry Mo deposit should be one of the important exploration targets in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, especially its eastern segment.

The Lianzigou deposit, which has an Au–Te paragenetic association, is hosted in plagioclase gneiss of the Qincanggou Formation in the Taihua Group in the Xiaoqinling region, central China. This quartz vein-type Au deposit comprises native Au and a variety of tellurides. The latter include calaverite (AuTe2), krennerite (Au3AgTe8), petzite (Au3AgTe2), hessite (Ag2Te), melonite (NiTe2), and altaite (PbTe). Four stages have been recognized in this deposit: stage I consists of K-feldspar and quartz; stage II is of milky quartz veins accompanied by coarse-grained disseminated and lumps of pyrite with weak Au mineralization; stage III is composed mainly of Au, tellurides, and sulfides; and stage IV is characterized by abundant carbonate and quartz. Based on mineral assemblage and thermodynamic data, we estimated the physicochemical conditions of the main metallogenic stages. Based on thermodynamic modelling, the physicochemical conditions of Au–Ag–Te mineral associations were estimated. The Au–Ag–Te minerals from stage III formed mainly under conditions of logƒO2 = −43.15 to −33.31, logƒH2S = ~−9.29, pH < 7, logfTe2 = −10.6 to −9.8 and logαAu+/αAg+ = −7.2 to −6.5. In contrast, the physicochemical conditions of stage II were higher, specifically pH (8.3–8.5) and logƒO2 (−34.90−31.96). In the ore-forming fluids of the Lianzigou deposit, the dominant Au species was Au(HS)2− while the dominant Te species were HTe−(aq) and Te22−(aq). Moreover, the Au–Ag–Te metal associations in the Lianzigou Au deposit were derived from mantle materials related to lithospheric thinning of the eastern North China craton in the Early Cretaceous under an extensional tectonic system.

Most trajectory compression methods primarily focus on geometric similarity between compressed and original trajectories, lacking explainability of compression results due to ignoring semantic information. This paper proposes a spatio-temporal semantic constrained trajectory compression method. It constructs a new trajectory distance measurement model integrating both semantic and spatio-temporal features. This model quantifies semantic features using information entropy and measures spatio-temporal features with synchronous Euclidean distance. The compression principle is to retain feature points with maximum spatio-temporal semantic distance from the original trajectory until the compression rate is satisfied. Experimental results show these methods closely resemble each other in maintaining geometric similarity of trajectories, but our method significantly outperforms DP, TD-TR, and CascadeSync methods in preserving semantic similarity of trajectories. This indicates that our method considers both geometric and semantic features during compression, resulting in the compressed trajectory becoming more interpretable.

The immunoregulatory role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in inflammation is heterogeneous and can exhibit anti-inflammatory or proinflammatory properties depending on the microenvironment. We herein observed that the activation of Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) by polyinosinic : polycytidylic acid (poly(I : C)) stimulation facilitated the transformation of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) into an anti-inflammatory phenotype. The enhanced anti-inflammatory properties were assessed in a taurocholate-induced pancreatitis model. The results demonstrated that poly(I : C) pretreated ADSCs exhibited enhanced anti-inflammatory properties than untreated ADSCs in taurocholate-induced pancreatitis. Mechanistically, poly(I : C)-treated ADSCs showed increased production and secretion of interleukin-10 (IL-10), which demonstrates a potent ability to alleviate inflammatory signaling cascades in acinar cells. Simultaneously, the heightened anti-inflammatory effects of poly(I : C)-treated ADSCs in pancreatitis were associated with the regulation of macrophage classical/alternative transformation, thereby mitigating inflammatory factor-mediated damage to the pancreatic acinar cell. We propose that TLR3 activation by poly(I : C) is an effective strategy to enhance the anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs, which offers a valuable consideration for improving the therapeutic efficacy of MSCs in inflammatory diseases.

The approach of synergistically combining mixed chromophores has garnered significant attention attributed to its ability to leverage the advantages of both groups and design novel nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. Herein, Sr(NO3)(NH2SO3)·H2O, a noncentrosymmetric compound, which represents the first reported nitrate sulfamate compound, is successfully designed and synthesized. The compound features zigzag [SrNO10(H2O)]∞ infinite layers, forming a honeycomb‐like graphene topology in its layered structure. The unique arrangement results in an excellent second harmonic generation response, 5.1 times that of KH2PO4, and an optimized birefringence of 0.06650 at 532 nm. In addition, the presence of interlayered covalent [NH2SO3] groups facilitates improved crystal growth habits, resulting in a large single crystal measuring 19.0 × 17.0 × 3.5 mm3. In this discovery, a new class of NLO materials is introduced and the scope of structural chemistry is significantly expanded.

Large centrifugal pumps can generate electricity in reverse, reducing the power supply pressure of the power grid. However, S region may occurs during the operation and regulation of the pump as a steam turbine (PAT). The S region can cause unstable unit startup, not only causing hydraulic system oscillation, but also accompanied by strong vibration and noise. Understanding the characteristic curve of the S region is of great significance for improving unit stability and efficiency. Previously, the main research object in S area was small generator units. This article conducted unsteady numerical simulation and experimental research on a large centrifugal pump. Analysed the internal flow rate, blade load, entropy generation, and pressure pulsation under three special operating conditions: the optimal operating condition, runaway operating condition, and braking operating condition in the S region. In addition, a comparative analysis was conducted on three pairs of operating conditions: S region turbine mode and reverse pump mode, with opposite flow direction, similar flow rate, and the same speed. Research has found that in the S region of large centrifugal pumps, the flow chaos in the turbine mode mainly occurs in the impeller section, and the maximum pressure occurs in the stationary blade section. The flow chaos under reverse pump operation mainly occurs in the stationary blade section, and the maximum pressure occurs in the impeller section.

Abstract The frequent switching of pump mode and turbine mode of the pump turbine leads to frequent transient phenomena. To ensure the safe and stable operation of the unit, a detailed study on the exhaust and pressurization process when the unit switches from turbine mode to the pump mode has been carried out. Based on the Shear Stress Transfer model (SST) k–ω turbulent model, the numerical simulations are processed both in a steady and unsteady state. The visualization results of gas–liquid two phases distribution in the dynamic process of exhaust and pressurization are given, and the characteristic references of each stage are also carried out. The transient characteristics of the torque, axial, and radial force of the runner and guide vane are analyzed by combining the short‐time Fourier transform. The results show that the main frequencies in this transient process are the blade passing frequency and its harmonic frequency. This process also presents a high amplitude band at all frequency values, which may be caused by the entrainment and centrifugal action of the runner on the free liquid surface.

The La’erma and Qiongmo Au–Se deposits are characterized by a paragenetic Au–Se association hosted in the siliceous formation of the Cambrian Taiyangding Group in the western Qinling Orogen, central China. The La’erma and Qiongmo Au–Se deposits, which are considered to be the Carlin gold deposits, comprise a variety of selenides, native gold, and stibnite coexisting with baryte. Four stages have been recognized: sage I comprises pyrite and quartz with minor stibnite; stage II is composed mainly of sulfides; stage III is composed mainly of selenides; and stage IV is dominated by quartz–baryte–dickite. Stages II and III are the main metallogenic stages. Based on changes in mineral assemblages, combined with fluid inclusions and thermodynamic data, we evaluated the physicochemical conditions of the main metallogenic stages. The logfS2 values of ore-forming fluids at stage II ranged between −10.44 and −14.60 with logfSe2 being less than −10.70. Comparably, during stage III, which is characterized by numerous selenides, the logfS2 and logfSe2 ranged from −7.13 to −12.20 and −13.98 to −8.82, respectively. The occurrence of baryte during the mineralization suggests a consistently oxidizing condition, which can effectively remove Au from fluids. More importantly, this study emphasizes that the oxidizing condition was only a fundamental prerequisite for the deposition of selenides, and a high ∑Se/S ratio of the fluid ultimately controlled the precipitation of selenides. In the La’erma and Qiongmo deposits, intense water–rock reactions occurred as ore-forming fluids flowed into the Se-rich siliceous formations, resulting in an increase in the ∑Se/S ratio of the fluid and in the precipitation of selenides.

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in China became a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2014, and the water quality of this ancient man-made canal has increasingly attracted societal attention. This study focuses on monitoring the water quality of the Beijing section of the Grand Canal (BGC) using remote sensing technology. Analysis of the comprehensive trophic level index (TLI) indicates that the water in the Canal was predominantly light eutrophic from 2016 to 2022. The annual average results of the TLI reveal that the water quality in the Kunming Lake and North Canal of BGC is generally good, characterized by some mesotrophic waters, and others are in light eutrophication. The TLI for the entire BGC water body decreased from 64.7 in 2016 to 60.3 in 2022, indicating an improvement trend in water quality. Notably, the proportion of good water with TLI less than 60 increased from 50% in 2016 to 83% in 2022. This improvement of water quality may be attributed to the reduced use of fertilizers and pesticides and the implementation of various environmental policies by Beijing Municipal government. These findings offer valuable insights for the management and protection of the water resources of the BGC, and further contribute to the evaluation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.4.

Abstract The purpose of the paper is to improve the efficiency of vehicle based sensing technology in highway pavement condition assessment by evaluating the effect of four factors (sensor placement, pavement temperature, drive speed, and threshold for pavement distress classification) and providing suggestions to better improve the accuracy of pavement condition detection and minimize the interruption of pavement sensing operation. Two I-10 corridors in the Phoenix region were selected for vibration data collection and data analysis. A series of statistical analyses were performed to determine if each one of the factors has a significant impact on the pavement distress detection. The results of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) tests show that the placement of sensors have a significant effect in the pavement condition assessments. The significant differences occurred in the group of sensors that were placed on the same side of the vehicle, as well as, in either front wheels or rear wheels of the vehicle. The effect of pavement temperature on the vehicle based sensing implementation is significant while the mean drive speed is not seen as a significant factor in the pavement condition survey. The two thresholds were determined to select points of interest (POI; cracks, potholes) for the pavement distress classification and these POIs are in good agreement with international roughness index (IRI) data in an ArcGIS map. The findings of the paper can be used to better improve the computing algorithms of vehicle based sensing techniques.

Existing motion planning algorithms for multi-robot systems must be improved to address poor coordination and increase low real-time performance. This paper proposes a new distributed real-time motion planning method for a multi-robot system using Model Predictive Contouring Control (MPCC). MPCC allows separating the tracking accuracy and productivity, to improve productivity better than the traditional Model Predictive Control (MPC) which follows a time-dependent reference. In the proposed distributed MPCC, each robot exchanges the predicted paths of the other robots and generates the collision-free motion in a parallel manner. The proposed distributed MPCC method is tested in industrial operation scenarios in the robot simulation platform Gazebo. The simulation results show that the proposed distributed MPCC method realizes real-time multi-robot motion planning and performs better than three commonly-used planning methods (dynamic window approach, MPC, and prioritized planning).

To better understand the antibiotic resistance, virulence genes, and some related drug-resistance genes of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in farmed pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Ningde regions, Fujian province, we collected and isolated a total of 102 strains of V. parahaemolyticus from farmed pacific white shrimp in three different areas of Ningde in 2022. The Kirby–Bauer disk method was used to detect V. parahaemolyticus resistance to 22 antibiotics, and resistant genes (such as quinolones (qnrVC136, qnrVC457, qnrA), tetracyclines (tet A, tetM, tetB), sulfonamides (sulI, sulII, sulIII), aminoglycosides (strA, strB), phenicols (cat, optrA, floR, cfr), β-lactams (carB), and macrolides (erm)) were detected by using PCR. The findings in this study revealed that V. parahaemolyticus was most resistant to sulfamoxazole, rifampicin, and erythromycin, with resistance rates of 56.9%, 36.3%, and 33.3%, respectively. Flufenicol, chloramphenicol, and ofloxacin susceptibility rates were 97.1%, 94.1%, and 92.2%, respectively. In all, 46% of the bacteria tested positive for multi-drug resistance. The virulence gene test revealed that all bacteria lacked the tdh and trh genes. Furthermore, 91.84% and 52.04% of the isolates were largely mediated by cat and sulII, respectively, with less than 5% resistance to aminoglycosides and macrolides. There was a clear mismatch between the antimicrobial resistance phenotypes and genotypes, indicating the complexities of V. parahaemolyticus resistance.

In order to realize the economic dispatch and safety stability of offshore wind farms, and to address the problems of strong randomness and strong time correlation in offshore wind power forecasting, this paper proposes a combined model of principal component analysis (PCA), sparrow algorithm (SSA), variational modal decomposition (VMD), and bidirectional long- and short-term memory neural network (BiLSTM). Firstly, the multivariate time series data were screened using the principal component analysis algorithm (PCA) to reduce the data dimensionality. Secondly, the variable modal decomposition (VMD) optimized by the SSA algorithm was applied to adaptively decompose the wind power time series data into a collection of different frequency components to eliminate the noise signals in the original data; on this basis, the hyperparameters of the BiLSTM model were optimized by integrating SSA algorithm, and the final power prediction value was obtained. Ultimately, the verification was conducted through simulation experiments; the results show that the model proposed in this paper effectively improves the prediction accuracy and verifies the effectiveness of the prediction model.

In this study, an analysis of a low-specific-speed pump is carried out based on the methods of one-way and two-way fluid–structure interactions (FSIs). This study analyzes the influence of FSIs on the internal flow field and external characteristics of the pump. Utilizing a two-way FSI, the signal coherence analysis method is employed to analyze the coherence of signals between the flow field and the structural field. Addressing the issue of a lack of a connection between the two signals, this study bridges a gap in the existing research. The results indicate that different interaction methods have certain influences on impeller stress and deformation. However, in both coupling modes, the maximum deformation and the maximum equivalent stress have the same distribution position. The head error obtained using the two-way coupling method is lower than that of the uncoupled results, which indicates that the two-way FSI calculation results are closer to the experimental results. The pressure pulsation signals at the interface of the impeller and volute exhibit strong coherence with the structural field signals. For low-specific-speed centrifugal pumps, establishing a clear connection between the flow field signals and structural field signals will help guide further optimization of their performance through design.

Field experiments were conducted to study the effects of different proportions of controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer mixed with quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer on the yield and nitrogen utilization efficiency of direct-seeding rapeseed. Using a conventional nitrogen application rate of 180 kg ha−1 as a control, a total of 5 types of available nitrogen fertilizers and different proportions of controlled-release nitrogen fertilizers were mixed for fertilizer treatment. The proportion of available nitrogen fertilizer used was 135 kg ha−1, and the addition ratios of the five types of controlled-release nitrogen fertilizers were 0%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100%, respectively (i.e., the proportion of controlled-release nitrogen to the total nitrogen application amount). These ratios were represented as N135R0, N135R1, N135R2, N135R3, and N135R4, respectively. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the number of pods per plant, the number of seeds per pod, or the grain yield under the treatment of controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer mixed with quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer for proportions of 30–50% (N135R1~R3) when compared with the control, and a stable yield was achieved. Mixing controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer under reduced nitrogen application can significantly improve the apparent utilization rate of rapeseed nitrogen fertilizer, but it first increases and then decreases with the increase of the controlled-release nitrogen mixing ratio, reaching its highest under the N135R2 treatment. The agronomic utilization efficiency and partial productivity of nitrogen fertilizer first increased and then decreased with the increased proportion of controlled-release nitrogen, and both reached their highest utilization with the N135R2 treatment. The mixed treatment of controlled-release nitrogen did not affect soil urease activity, but significantly increased soil sucrase activity. The mixed treatment of controlled-release nitrogen also increased soil microbial biomass nitrogen and carbon content. Especially in the flowering stage, the soil microbial biomass nitrogen and carbon content was significantly higher under a controlled-release nitrogen mixing ratio of 30–50%. At the same time, it had a similar effect on soil inorganic nitrogen content. Therefore, a controlled-release nitrogen mixing treatment provided sufficient nitrogen for the key growth period of rapeseed. Under the condition of reducing the amount of nitrogen fertilizer by 25% based on the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied to conventional rapeseed, the application of controlled-release urea mixed with common nitrogen fertilizer mixed at a ratio of 30–50% can be an effective way to maintain grain yield levels and improve nitrogen utilization efficiency.

Introduction: YiYiFuZi powder (YYFZ) is a classical formula in Chinese medicine, which is commonly used clinically for the treatment of Chronic Heart Disease (CHD), but it’s pharmacological effects and mechanism of action are currently unclear.Methods: An adriamycin-induced CHD model rat was established to evaluate the pharmacological effects of YYFZ on CHD by the results of inflammatory factor level, histopathology and echocardiography. Metabolomic studies were performed on rat plasma using UPLC-Q-TOF/MS to screen biomarkers and enrich metabolic pathways; network pharmacology analysis was also performed to obtain the potential targets and pathways of YYFZ for the treatment of CHD.Results: The results showed that YYFZ significantly reduced the levels of TNF-α and BNP in the serum of rats, alleviated the disorder of cardiomyocyte arrangement and inflammatory cell infiltration, and improved the cardiac function of rats with CHD. The metabolomic analysis identified a total of 19 metabolites, related to amino acid metabolism, fatty acid metabolism, and other metabolic pathways. Network pharmacology showed that YYFZ acts through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway and Ras signaling pathway.Discussion: YYFZ treatment of CHD modulates blood metabolic pattern and several protein phosphorylation cascades but importance specific changes for therapeutic effect require further studies.

The impact of water and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([EMIm]Ac) drops on [EMIm]Ac ionic liquid film was studied. The hydrodynamics of the impact of drops on a water liquid film were compared. A higher Weber number contribute to a larger crown rim diameter and height. The variation trend of the crown rim diameter and height with the liquid film thickness differs much according to the drop and film properties. The crown rim diameter and height have an opposite variation trend with the increasing liquid film temperature. The crown rim diameters with different droplet and liquid film properties were almost the same at the early stage of impact of approximately 4 ms, and then the difference became larger at a later stage. The shape of the generated liquid crown was more regular for drops impact on ionic liquid film. The water droplet impact on a water film has the largest liquid crown rim diameter and height, while the ionic liquid droplet impact on the ionic liquid film has the lowest.

ABSTRACTOptical Water Type (OWT) analysis is crucial for comprehending water composition and quality, key factors in assessing water quality over extensive areas. However, China’s inland waters lack a standardized system for such analysis. To quantitatively analyze the classification results, our study compared three K-means clustering methods, for analyzing 1310 spectral data from various Chinese lakes and reservoirs, thereby addressing this gap. The innovative split-merge K-means method identified 13 distinct OWTs that more closely adhere to the principles of minimizing intra-class distance and maximizing inter-class distance. These were categorized into four groups: clear water, turbid water, eutrophic water, and special type water. Additionally, we developed a method based on Spectral Angle Distance (SAD) to evaluate the classification capabilities of 12 satellite sensors. The results show that Sentinel-3 OLCI (Ocean and Land Color Instrument), MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer), and Sentinel-2 MSI (Multispectral Instrument) have the best water classification capabilities, making them well-suited for large-scale monitoring of OWT changes. Conversely, other sensors, such as the Sustainable Development Scientific Satellite-1 (SDGSAT-1), Landsat-8, GaoFen-6, GaoFen-1, GaoFen-2, Landsat-5, Landsat-7, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and HuanJing-1, necessitate the consolidation of water types for effective categorization, indicative of their more limited classification capabilities.

Background Sarcopenia, a syndrome of progressive and generalised loss of skeletal muscle, which can increase the risk of postoperative complications of colorectal cancer, but its association with postoperative surgical site infections in colorectal cancer is still inconclusive. Objective To evaluate the association of abdominal CT-assessed sarcopenia with postoperative surgical site infections in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery. Methods Three hundred and twenty-eight colorectal cancer patients underwent radical surgery in Gastrointestinal Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China between July 2019 and December 2021 were selected. Clinical data were retrospectively collected through the electronic medical record system. Sarcopenia was diagnosed by the L3 skeletal muscle index (L3 SMI) assessed using abdominal CT. Objective To investigate associations between femoral head necrosis (FHN) and injury to the retinaculum of Weitbrecht in patients with femoral neck fractures who had undergone initial trials of either closed reduction or direct open reduction. Methods This prospective observational study included 110 patients with displaced femoral neck fractures admitted to the Sixth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Tongji Hospital between January 2008 and May 2017. Among these, 25 patients underwent initial closed reductions, and 85 patients underwent an open reduction directly. Watson‐Jones anterolateral approach was used during the surgery for injury to the retinaculum of Weitbrecht, and FHN was assessed as a surgical outcome. The severity of injury to the retinaculum of Weitbrecht was evaluated using a scoring system developed by our surgical team. Follow‐up was at least 24 months. Results The initial closed reduction treatment group had significantly higher total scores of injury to the retinaculum of Weitbrecht (6.24 ± 2.20 vs 4.62 ± 2.12, p = 0.009) compared to the open reduction group. High total scores were significantly associated with initial trials of closed reduction treatment, especially for the broken and released injury to the superior and anterior retinacula (both p = 0.01). Abstract Forming of various customized bending parts, small batches, as well as numerous types of materials is a new challenges for Industry 4.0, the current control strategies can not meet the precision and flexibility requirement, expected control strategy of bending processes need to not only resist unknown interferences of process condition and models, but also produce various new parts automatically and efficiently. In this paper, a precision and flexible bending control strategy based on analytical models and data models is proposed to build adaptive bending systems. New analytical prediction models for loading and unloading are established and suitable for various materials, a sequential identification strategy is proposed to search nominal properties using the four sub-optimization models. A data-based feedback model is established to prevent over-bending and eliminate online deviation. Above models are merged into a precision and flexible control strategy. The system firstly uses sub-optimization models to search the nominal point which is near to target point, secondly the system further uses feedback model to eliminate residual error between the nominal point and target point. Compared with four kinds sheet metals, the allowable ranges for variables are determined for a good convergence. The target bending angles were set to 20°, 40°, and 60°. Forty parts were tracked for each kind material, the adaptive bending system converged after one iteration, and exhibited better performances.

Abstract Birefringent materials play indispensable roles in modulating the polarization of light and are vital in the laser science and technology. Currently, the design of birefringent materials operating in the deep-ultraviolet region (DUV, λ ≤200 nm) is still a great challenge. In this work, we developed a new DUV birefringent crystal LiBO2 based on [BO2]∞ infinite chains in the Li-B-O system, which simultaneously achieves the shortest UV cutoff edge (164 nm) and the largest birefringence (≥0.168 at 266 nm) among all the reported borate-based DUV birefringent materials. Single crystals of LiBO2 with dimensions up to Ø55 × 34 mm3 were grown by the Czochralski method, providing access to large-sized single crystal with low cost. Moreover, it has a high laser damage threshold and stable physicochemical properties. These outstanding characters unambiguously support that LiBO2 can be an excellent birefringent material for DUV application.

The conversion of nitrogen–oxygen-rich biomass wastes into heteroatomic co-doped nanostructured carbons used as energy storage materials has received widespread attention. In this study, an in situ nitrogen–oxygen co-doped porous carbon was prepared for supercapacitor applications via a two-step method of pre-carbonization and pyrolytic activation using mixed egg yolk/white and rice waste. The optimal sample (YPAC-1) was found to have a 3D honeycomb structure composed of abundant micropores and mesopores with a high specific surface area of 1572.1 m2 g−1, which provided abundant storage space and a wide transport path for electrolyte ions. Notably, the specific capacitance of the constructed three-electrode system was as high as 446.22 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 and remained above 50% at 10 A g−1. The capacitance retention was 82.26% after up to 10,000 cycles. The symmetrical capacitor based on YPAC-1 with a two-electrode structure exhibited an energy density of 8.3 Wh kg−1 when the power density was 136 W kg−1. These results indicate that porous carbon materials prepared from mixed protein and carbohydrate waste have promising applications in the field of supercapacitors.

Most studies exploring abilities of hosts to detect brood parasitism are based on detecting colour and/or pattern differences among parasitic and host eggs or nestlings, while only few were focused on size differences. True recognition and recognition by discordancy are used to explain cognitive mechanisms of host egg recognition; however, only a few studies have found that hosts use recognition by discordancy. This study investigated: 1) whether egg and nestling recognitions in the Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus) are based on size cues; 2) whether the egg cognitive mechanism is recognition by discordancy based on size cues; and 3) whether the longer the experiment time, the higher the egg recognition rate. Our results showed that the Crested Myna uses egg or nestling size as a recognition cue while the egg and nestling colour and patterning are not associated with egg or nestling rejection, thus the cognitive mechanism of egg recognition in the Crested Myna is recognition by discordancy based on egg size cues. Furthermore, there is a rejection delay in time of egg rejection behaviour of the Crested Myna. Therefore, we suggest that the periodicity of egg rejection experiments could be appropriately extended, especially for species with relatively low egg recognition ability.

The districts and counties in the Baoding region are the subjects of this study, with an emphasis on the accessibility and economic relations between the core city, the Xiong’an New Area, and periphery districts and counties. By taking into account intracity transportation connections and passengers’ travel behavior choices, a mix of weighted average travel time, economic potential, and spatial autocorrelation analysis methodologies is applied. The accessibility modifications and evolution of the spatial distribution pattern of economic activity in the Baoding region as a result of the high-speed railway (HSR) construction are analyzed at multiscale. BackgroundThe association between systemic iron status and lung function was conflicting in observational studies. We aim to explore the potential causal relationships between iron status and the levels of lung function using the two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design.MethodsGenetic instruments associated with iron status biomarkers were retrieved from the Genetics of Iron Status (GIS) consortium (N = 48,972). Summary statistics of these genetic instruments with lung function were extracted from a meta-analysis of UK Biobank and SpiroMeta consortium (N = 400,102). The main analyses were performed using the inverse-variance weighted method, and complemented by multiple sensitivity analyses.ResultsBased on conservative genetic instruments, MR analyses showed that genetically predicted higher iron (beta: 0.036 per 1 SD increase, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.016 to 0.056, P = 3.51 × 10−4), log10-transformed ferritin (beta: 0.081, 95% CI: 0.047 to 0.116, P = 4.11 × 10−6), and transferrin saturation (beta: 0.027, 95% CI: 0.015 to 0.038, P = 1.09 × 10−5) were associated with increased forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), whereas higher transferrin was associated with decreased FEV1 (beta: −0.036, 95% CI: −0.064 to −0.008, P = 0.01). A significant positive association between iron status and forced vital capacity (FVC) was also observed. However, there is no causal association between iron status and FEV1-to-FVC ratio (P = 0.10). Similar results were obtained from the liberal instruments analyses and multiple sensitivity analyses.ConclusionOur study provided strong evidence to support that higher iron status is causally associated with higher levels of FEV1 and FVC, but has no impact on airway obstruction, confirming iron status as an important target for lung function management.

Mechanical properties of internal curing concrete are greatly affected by its physical properties such as water content, cementing material content, porosity, and saturation. At the micro- level, such impact is finally reflected in the surface texture of its materials. In this study, the image recognition technology was used to find that the internal curing concrete samples have significant micromorphology and texture features. A texture parameter–strength model was established based on the relationship between Tamura texture parameters, gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture parameters, and the mechanical strength. Due to the sensitivity of material properties and parameters, in terms of Tamura texture characteristics, coarseness, regularity and directionality are effective parameters for predicting the compressive strength of internally curing concrete. In terms of the GLCM texture, energy, correlation, entropy, and contrast are effective parameters to predict the compressive strength of the internal curing concrete. Correlations between each texture parameter and compressive strength follow different laws.

Accumulating evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are implicated in diverse human diseases, including sepsis-engendered acute kidney injury (AKI). In this study, we investigated the functions of circRNA vacuolar ATPase assembly factor VMA21 (circVMA21) in septic AKI through establishing septic AKI in vitro model. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay was adopted to determine the levels of circVMA21, microRNA-7-5p (miR-7-5p) and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARA) mRNA. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and flow cytometry analysis were conducted to evaluate cell viability and apoptosis. Western blot assay was used for protein levels. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed for the secretion of inflammatory cytokines. The levels of oxidative stress markers were examined with specific commercial kits. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were utilized the analyse the relationships among circVMA21, miR-7-5p and PPARA. CircVMA21 was reduced in sepsis patients’ serums and LPS-stimulated HK2 cells. CircVMA21 overexpression reversed the suppressive effect on cell viability and the promotional effects on cell apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress in HK2 cells mediated by LPS. CircVMA21 was identified as the sponge for miR-7-5p. MiR-7-5p overexpression abrogated the impacts of circVMA21 elevation on cell viability, apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress in LPS-stimulated HK2 cells. MiR-7-5p directly targeted PPARA, and miR-7-5p inhibition ameliorated LPS-induced HK2 cell damage by targeting PPARA. CircVMA21 overexpression alleviated LPS-stimulated HK2 cell damage through the regulation of miR-7-5p/PPARA.

In this paper, an optical fiber humidity sensor based on acrylate AB adhesive film is studied, and two methods—a bubbling method and a dual pressure assisted method—for preparing thin films are proposed. The forms will make the thin film lighter and make the sensor more sensitive. Using a glass tube to connect the acrylate AB adhesive film to the single mode optical fiber, the humidity sensor is obtained. Through humidity response experiments, the sensor’s sensitivity reaches 167.5 pm/% RH, and the response time reaches 4.8 s/% RH. At the same time, the experiments show that the sensor has good repeatability and stability. Finally, the influence of temperature on the working process is analyzed, and we provide a method for improvement through FBG.

Land use simulations are critical in predicting the impact of land use change (LUC) on the Earth. Various assumptions and policies influence land use structure and are a key factor in decisions made by policymakers. Meanwhile, the spatial autocorrelation effect between land use types has rarely been considered in existing land use spatial simulation models, and the simulation accuracy needs to be further improved. Thus, in this study, the driving mechanisms of LUC are analyzed. The quantity demand and spatial distribution of land use are predicted under natural development (ND), economic development (ED), ecological protection (EP), and sustainability development (SD) scenarios in Zhengzhou based on the coupled Multi-Objective Programming (MOP) model and the Patch-generating Land Use Simulation model (PLUS) considering Spatial Autocorrelation (PLUS-SA). We conclude the following. (1) The land use type in Zhengzhou was mainly cultivated land, and 83.85% of the land for urban expansion was cultivated land from 2000 to 2020. The reduction in forest from 2010 to 2020 was less than that from 2000 to 2010 due to the implementation of the policy in which farmland is transformed back into forests. (2) The accuracy of PLUS-SA was better than that of the traditional PLUS and Future Land Use Simulation (FLUS) models, and its Kappa coefficient, overall accuracy, and FOM were 0.91, 0.95, and 0.29, respectively. (3) Natural factors (temperature, precipitation, and DEM) contributed significantly to the expansion of cultivated land, and the increase in forest, grass, and construction land was greatly affected by socioeconomic factors (population, GDP, and proximity to town). (4) The land use structure will be more in line with the current requirements for sustainable urban development in the SD scenario, and the economic and ecological benefits will increase by 0.75 × 104 billion CNY and 1.71 billion CNY, respectively, in 2035 compared with those in 2020. The PLUS-SA model we proposed had higher simulation accuracy in Zhengzhou Compared with the traditional PLUS and FLUS models, and our research framework can provide a basis for decision-makers to formulate sustainable land use development policies to achieve high-quality and sustainable urban development.

Bubble-propelled Janus micromotors have attracted extensive attention in recent years and have been regarded as powerful tools in the environmental and medical fields due to their excellent movement ability. The movement ability can mainly be attributed to the periodic growth, detachment, and/or collapse of the bubble. However, subjected to the experimental conditions, the mechanism of bubble evolution on the motion of the micromotor could not be elucidated clearly. In this work, a finite element method was employed for exploring the role of bubble evolution in bubble-propelled Janus micromotors, which emphasized the growth and collapse of bubbles. After the proposed model was verified by the scallop theorem, the influence of the growth and rapid collapse of bubbles on micromotors was investigated. Results show that the growth and collapse of a bubble can drive the micromotor to produce a displacement, but the displacement caused by a bubble collapse is significantly greater than that caused by bubble growth. The reasons for this phenomenon are analyzed and explained. In addition to the influence of bubble size, the collapse time of the bubble is also investigated.

A Karman vortex is a phenomenon of fluid flow that can cause fluctuation and vibration. As a result, it leads to fatigue damage to structures and induces safety accidents. Therefore, the analysis of the shedding law and strength of the Karman vortex is significant. To further understand the laws of turbulent Karman vortex shedding and strength, this study conducts a numerical vorticity simulation of a Karman vortex at the trailing edge of a hydrofoil based on the two-dimensional simplified model of the NACA0009 hydrofoil under different Reynolds numbers. Combined with image segmentation technology, the fractal characteristics of a turbulent Karman vortex at the trailing edge of a hydrofoil are extracted, the number and total area of vortex cores are calculated, and the fractal dimension of the vortex is obtained. The results show that the fractal dimension can characterize the change in vortex shape and strength under different Reynolds numbers, and that the fractal analysis method is feasible and effective for the shedding analysis of a turbulent Karman vortex.

Soil organic matter (SOM) is an important soil property for agricultural production. Rising grain demand has increased the intensity of cultivated land development in the Sanjiang Plain of China, and there is a strong demand for SOM monitoring in this region. Therefore, Baoqing County of the Sanjiang Plain, an important grain production area, was considered the study area. In the study, we proposed a framework for high-accuracy SOM retrieval by coupling multi-temporal remote sensing (RS) images and variable selection algorithms. A total of 73 surface soil samples (0–20 cm) were collected in 2010, and Landsat 5 images acquired during the bare soil period (April, May, and June) were selected from 2008 to 2011. Three variable selection algorithms, namely, Genetic Algorithm, Random Frog and Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS), were combined with Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) to build SOM retrieval models on the spectral bands and indices of the images. The results using a single-date image showed that the combination of variable selection algorithms and PLSR outperformed using PLSR alone, and CARS showed the best performance (R2 = 0.34, RMSE = 15.66 g/kg) among all the algorithms. Therefore, only CARS was applied to SOM retrieval in the different year interval groups. To investigate the effect of the image acquisition time, all images were divided into various year interval groups, and the resulting images were then stacked. The results using multi-temporal images showed that the SOM retrieval accuracy improved as the year interval lengthened. The optimal result (R2 = 0.59, RMSE = 11.81 g/kg) was obtained from the 2008–2011 group, wherein the difference indices derived from the images of 2009, 2010, and 2011 dominated the selected spectral variables. Moreover, the spatial prediction of SOM based on the optimal model was consistent with the distribution of SOM. Our study suggested that the proposed framework that couples stacked multi-temporal RS images with variable selection algorithms has potential for SOM retrieval.

Cardiomyocytes (CMs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) represent an excellent in vitro model in cardiovascular research. Changes in their action potential (AP) dynamics convey information that is essential for disease modeling, drug screening and toxicity evaluation. High-throughput optical AP recordings utilizing intramolecular Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) of the voltage-sensitive fluorescent protein (VSFP) have emerged as a substitute or complement to the resource-intensive patch clamp technique. Here, we functionally validated our recently generated voltage indicator hiPSC lines stably expressing CAG-promoter-driven VSFP in the AAVS1 safe harbor locus. By combining subtype-specific cardiomyocyte differentiation protocols, we established optical AP recordings in ventricular, atrial, and nodal CMs in 2D monolayers using fluorescence microscopy. Moreover, we achieved high-throughput optical AP measurements in single hiPSC-derived CMs in a 3D context. Overall, this system greatly expands the spectrum of possibilities for high-throughput, non-invasive and long-term AP analyses in cardiovascular research and drug discovery.
