Structural global parameter identifiability indicates whether one can determine a parameter's value in an ODE model from given inputs and outputs. If a given model has parameters for which there is exactly one value, such parameters are called globally identifiable. Given an ODE model involving not globally identifiable parameters, first we transform the system into one with locally identifiable parameters. As a main contribution of this paper, then we present a procedure for replacing, if possible, the ODE model with an equivalent one that has globally identifiable parameters. We first derive this as an algorithm for one-dimensional ODE models and then reuse this approach for higher-dimensional models.

We study the notion of degeneration for affine schemes associated to systems of algebraic differential equations with coefficients in the fraction field of a multivariate formal power series ring. In order to do this, we use an integral structure of this field that arises as the unit ball associated to the tropical valuation, first introduced in the context of tropical differential algebra. This unit ball turns out to be a particular type of integral domain, known as B\'ezout domain. By applying to these systems a translation map along a vector of weights that emulates the one used in classical tropical algebraic geometry, the resulting translated systems will have coefficients in this unit ball. When the resulting quotient module over the unit ball is torsion-free, then it gives rise to integral models of the original system in which every prime ideal of the unit ball defines an initial degeneration, and they can be found as a base-change to the residue field of the prime ideal. In particular, the closed fibres of our integral models can be rightfully called initial degenerations, since we show that the maximal ideals of this unit ball naturally correspond to monomial orders. We use this correspondence to define initial forms of differential polynomials and initial ideals of differential ideals, and we show that they share many features of their classical analogues., Comment: 21 pages

The fundamental theorem of tropical differential algebra has been established for formal power series solutions of systems of algebraic differential equations. It has been shown that the direct extension to formal Puiseux series solutions fails. In this paper, we overcome this issue by transforming the given differential system and such a generalization is presented. Moreover, we explain why such transformations do not work for generalizing the fundamental theorem to transseries solutions, but show that one inclusion still holds for this case even without using any transformation.

In this paper we give a procedure for finding rational solutions of a given first-order ODE with functional and constant coefficients which occur in a rational way. We derive an associated system with the same solvability, and sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of rational solutions are given. In the case where all parametric coefficients are constant, we give an algorithm to compute the rational solutions. In the case where one functional coefficient appears, we algorithmically find rational general solutions which rationally depend on the appearing transcendental constant. In the other cases, the presented procedure is not completely algorithmic.

Given a single algebraic input-output equation, we present a method for finding different representations of the associated system in the form of rational realizations; these are dynamical systems with rational right-hand sides. It has been shown that in the case where the input-output equation is of order one, rational realizations can be computed, if they exist. In this work, we focus first on the existence and actual computation of the so-called observable rational realizations, and secondly on rational realizations with real coefficients. The study of observable realizations allows to find every rational realization of a given first order input-output equation, and the necessary field extensions in this process. We show that for first order input-output equations the existence of a rational realization is equivalent to the existence of an observable rational realization. Moreover, we give a criterion to decide the existence of real rational realizations. The computation of observable and real realizations of first order input-output equations is fully algorithmic. We also present partial results for the case of higher order input-output equations.

Rational algebraic curves have been intensively studied in the last decades, both from the theoretical and applied point of view. In applications (e.g. level curves, linear homotopy deformation, geometric constructions in computer aided design, etc.), there often appear unknown parameters. It is possible to adjoin these parameters to the coefficient field as transcendental elements. In some particular cases, however, the curve has a different behavior than in the generic situation treated in this way. In this paper, we show when the singularities and thus the (geometric) genus of the curves might change. More precisely, we give a partition of the affine space, where the parameters take values, so that in each subset of the partition the specialized curve is either reducible or its genus is invariant. In particular, we give a Zariski-closed set in the space of parameter values where the genus of the curve under specialization might decrease or the specialized curve gets reducible. For the genus zero case, and for a given rational parametrization, a better description is possible such that the set of parameters where Hilbert's irreducibility theorem does not hold can be isolated, and such that the specialization of the parametrization parametrizes the specialized curve. We conclude the paper by illustrating these results by some concrete applications.

In this paper we present an algorithmic procedure that transforms, if possible, a given system of ordinary or partial differential equations with radical dependencies in the unknown function and its derivatives into a system with polynomial relations among them by means of a rational change of variables. The solutions of the given equation and its transformation correspond one-to-one. This work can be seen as a generalization of previous work on reparametrization of ODEs and PDEs with radical coefficients.

In this paper we study systems of autonomous algebraic ODEs in several differential indeterminates. We develop a notion of algebraic dimension of such systems by considering them as algebraic systems. Afterwards we apply differential elimination and analyze the behavior of the dimension in the resulting Thomas decomposition. For such systems of algebraic dimension one, we show that all formal Puiseux series solutions can be approximated up to an arbitrary order by convergent solutions. We show that the existence of Puiseux series and algebraic solutions can be decided algorithmically. Moreover, we present a symbolic algorithm to compute all algebraic solutions. The output can either be represented by triangular systems or by their minimal polynomials.

There exist several methods for computing exact solutions of algebraic differential equations. Most of the methods, however, do not ensure existence and uniqueness of the solutions and might fail after several steps, or are restricted to linear equations. The authors have presented in previous works a method to overcome this problem for autonomous first order algebraic ordinary differential equations and formal Puiseux series solutions and algebraic solutions. In the first case, all solutions can uniquely be represented by a sufficiently large truncation and in the latter case by its minimal polynomial. The main contribution of this paper is the implementation, in a MAPLE-package named FirstOrderSolve, of the algorithmic ideas presented therein. More precisely, all formal Puiseux series and algebraic solutions, including the generic and singular solutions, are computed and described uniquely. The computation strategy is to reduce the given differential equation to a simpler one by using local parametrizations and the already known degree bounds.

Tropical Differential Algebraic Geometry considers difficult or even intractable problems in Differential Equations and tries to extract information on their solutions from a restricted structure of the input. The Fundamental Theorem of Tropical Differential Algebraic Geometry states that the support of solutions of systems of ordinary differential equations with formal power series coefficients over an uncountable algebraically closed field of characteristic zero can be obtained by solving a so-called tropicalized differential system. Tropicalized differential equations work on a completely different algebraic structure which may help in theoretical and computational questions. We show that the Fundamental Theorem can be extended to the case of systems of partial differential equations by introducing vertex sets of Newton polygons., Comment: 20 pages, 2 figures. In this paper, we study the algebraic, rational and formal Puiseux series solutions of certain type of systems of autonomous ordinary differential equations. More precisely, we deal with systems which associated algebraic set is of dimension one. We establish a relationship between the solutions of the system and the solutions of an associated first order autonomous ordinary differential equation, that we call the reduced differential equation. Using results on such equations, we prove the convergence of the formal Puiseux series solutions of the system, expanded around a finite point or at infinity, and we present an algorithm to describe them. In addition, we bound the degree of the possible algebraic and rational solutions, and we provide an algorithm to decide their existence and to compute such solutions if they exist. Moreover, if the reduced differential equation is non trivial, for every given point $(x_0,y_0)$ in the complex plane, we prove the existence of a convergent Puiseux series solution $y(x)$ of the original system such that $y(x_0)=y_0$.

Given an autonomous first order algebraic ordinary differential equation F(y,y')=0, we prove that every formal Puiseux series solution, expanded around any finite point or at infinity, is convergent. The proof is constructive and we provide an algorithm to describe all such Puiseux series solutions. Moreover, we show that for any point in the complex plane there exists a solution of the differential equation which defines an analytic curve passing through this point.

Given an algebraic ordinary differential equation (AODE), we propose a computational method to determine when a truncated power series can be extended to a formal power series solution. If a certain regularity condition on the given AODE or on the initial values is fulfilled, we compute all of the solutions. Moreover, when the existence is confirmed, we present the algebraic structure of the set of all formal power series solutions.

Given a first-order autonomous algebraic ordinary differential equation, we present a method for computing formal power series solutions by means of places. We provide an algorithm for computing a full characterization of possible initial values, classified in terms of the number of distinct formal power series solutions extending them. In addition, if a particular initial value is given, we present a second algorithm that computes all the formal power series solutions, up to a suitable degree, corresponding to it. Furthermore, when the ground field is the field of the complex numbers, we prove that the computed formal power series solutions are all convergent in suitable neighborhoods.
