Intensification of Typhoon Chanthu (2021) along the eastern coast of Taiwan was accompanied by pronounced asymmetry in eyewall convection dominated by wavenumber-1 features, as observed by a dense radar network in Taiwan. The maximum wind speed at 3-km altitude, retrieved from radar observations, exhibited a rapid increase of approximately 18 m s−1 within an 11-h period during the intensification stage, followed by a significant decrease of approximately 19 m s−1 within 8 h during the weakening stage. Namely, Chanthu underwent both rapid intensification (RI) and rapid weakening (RW) within the 24-h analyzed period, posing challenges for intensity forecasts. During the intensifying stages, the region of maximum eyewall convection asymmetry underwent a sudden cyclonic rotation from the eastern to the northern semicircle immediately after the initiation of terrain-induced boundary inflow from the south of the typhoon, as observed by surface station data. This abrupt rotation of eyewall asymmetry exhibited better agreement with radar-derived vertical wind shear (VWS) than that derived from global reanalysis data. This finding suggests that the meso-β-scale VWS is more representative for tropical cyclones than meso-α-scale VWS when the terrain-induced forcing predominates in the environmental conditions. Further examination of the radar-derived VWS indicated that the VWS profile pattern provided a more favorable environment for typhoon intensification. In summary, Chanthu's RI was influenced by the three factors: 1) terrain-induced boundary inflow from the south of the typhoon, observed by surface station data; 2) low-level flow pointing toward the upshear-left direction; and 3) weak upper-level VWS. Significance Statement: Tropical cyclone intensity change has been an important issue for both real-time operation and research, but the influence of terrain on intensity change has not been fully understood. Typhoon Chanthu (2021) underwent a significant intensity change near the complex terrain of Taiwan that was observed by a dense radar network. This study analyzes 24 h of radar and weather station data to investigate Chanthu's evolution. The analyses indicate that the complex terrain affected the low-level flow near the TC. In this study, a vortex-based Doppler velocity dealiasing (VDVD) algorithm for tropical cyclones (TCs) is proposed. The algorithm uses a Rankine combined vortex model as a reference field for dealiasing based on an inner–outer iterative procedure. The structure of the reference vortex is adjusted in an inner iterative procedure of VDVD that applies the ground-based velocity track display (GBVTD) technique. The outer loop of the VDVD based on the GBVTD-simplex algorithm is used for center correction. The VDVD is able to recover not only the aliased Doppler velocities from a simulated symmetric vortex but also those superimposed with wavenumber-1 asymmetry, radial wind, or mean flow. For real cases, the VDVD provides dealiased Doppler velocity with 99.4% accuracy for all pixels, based on 472 elevation sweeps from a typhoon without landfall. It is suggested that the VDVD algorithm can improve the quality of downstream applications such as Doppler wind retrievals and radar data assimilations of TCs and other storms, such as tornadoes and mesocyclones, with vortex signatures. In this paper, a new design method for bridged-T coil (BTC) is proposed such that it can be made equivalent to two different transmission line sections at two different frequencies. In this way, on-chip dual-band branch-line coupler and dual-band power divider designs with very compact circuit sizes can be made possible through the use of BTCs. Specifically, the proposed 2.45/5.8-GHz dual-band branch-line coupler realized using the integrated passive device (IPD) process features a compact circuit size of only 2.8~\text mm \times 1.4 mm while the proposed 2.4/5.5-GHz dual-band power divider in IPD exhibits a very small circuit size of only 1.8~\text mm \times 1.7 mm. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed dual-band branch-line coupler is the smallest one ever reported while the circuit size of the proposed dual-band power divider is comparable to the smallest in the literature. In this paper, a GaAs absorptive single-pole double-throw (SPDT) RF switch and its application to a 2.4-GHz switched beamformer module are presented. The proposed absorptive SPDT RF switch features low-power consumption and low insertion loss with good output matching both in the on and off states. Specifically, the measured insertion loss in the on state is less than 1 dB, and the measured input and output return losses are both better than 11.2 dB from 1.9 to 2.6 GHz. The measured output return loss in the off state is better than 15 dB, and the measured isolation is better than 24.7 dB in the same frequency range. Two proposed absorptive SPDT switches are then employed to form an absorptive single-pole four-throw RF switch, and it is integrated with a miniaturized $4 \times 4$ Butler matrix using the integrated passive device (IPD) technology to achieve a compact 2.4-GHz switched beamformer module with a very low profile. Specifically, the module size is 4.9 mm $\times5$ mm with a thickness of only 0.4 mm. The IPD beamformer module is then used to realize a low-profile 2-D scanning antenna array, and 16 different beams in azimuth and elevation dimensions are successfully generated. In this paper, a miniature switched beamformer module for 2.4-GHz applications is proposed. The proposed beamformer module is based on the integrated passive device technology, and it integrates a 4 \times 4 Butler matrix, a single-pole four-throw beam-selection switch, and a p-i-n diode-based transmit/receive (T/R) switch into a compact module size of only 4.9 \text {mm} \times 5~\text {mm} \times 0.9 mm. To achieve the compact module size, bridged-T coils are used to replace the transmission line sections in the 4 \times 4$ Butler matrix and the T/R switch. The measured insertion loss at the center frequency of 2.4 GHz is within 10.89 ± 1.13 dB for the receive path and 11.33 ± 0.69 dB for the transmit path. The measured phase error is less than 8.4° at 2.4 GHz. The proposed beamformer features low cost, compact size, and low profile. Amanita neoovoidea (genus Amanita Pers.) poisoning leads to acute renal failure. Here, we present seven case reports of acute renal failure with acute hepatic failure due to ingestion of A. neoovoidea. Clinical manifestations included gastrointestinal symptoms 1–72 h after ingestion; elevation of renal parameters and blood uric acid, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine levels; a few abnormal hepatic parameters, primarily albumin decrease and alanine aminotransferase increase; and elevation of zymogram parameters such as cholinesterase and lactate dehydrogenase. To determine whether the hepatic/renal lesions were caused by amanitins, we analyzed the blood and urine samples of patients and specimens of poisonous mushrooms. Morphological and molecular biological analyses indicated that the mushroom was A. neoovoidea. However, no amatoxins and phallotoxins were detected in its basidiomata. • Seven people were poisoned after ingesting some white wild mushrooms in 2016 in Anhui province. • Morphological analysis identified the specimens as A. neoovoidea. • The specimens were identified as A. neoovoidea by molecular biological method.
