Chyloperitoneum (CP) is a rare complication after bariatric surgery. We present a 37-year-old female with CP caused by a bowel volvulus following a gastric clipping with proximal jejunal bypass for morbid obesity. An abdominal CT image of a mesenteric swirl sign and abnormal triglyceride level of ascites fluid can confirm the diagnosis. In this patient, laparoscopy demonstrated dilated lymphatic ducts caused by a bowel volvulus resulting in the exudation of chylous fluid into the peritoneal cavity. After the reduction of bowel volvulus, she made an uneventful recovery with complete resolution of the chylous ascites. The presence of CP could indicate a situation of small bowel obstruction in patients with a history of bariatric surgery.

Background: Heat shock proteins (HSPs) play a critical role in cellular stress responses and have been implicated in numerous diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD) and various cancers. Understanding the differential expression and functional implications of HSPs in these conditions is crucial for identifying potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis. Methods: We utilized combined datasets (GSE6613 and GSE72267) to identify and analyze the heat shock-related genes differentially expressed in PD. Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA) was performed to explore functional profiles, while LASSO regression was employed to screen potential PD biomarkers. In glioma, prognostic value, immune infiltration, and pathway enrichment associated with HSPA1L gene expression were assessed via Kaplan-Meier plots, ssGSEA, and enrichment analyses. Results: In PD, we identified 17 differentially expressed HSPs. Enrichment analysis revealed significant pathways related to protein homeostasis and cellular stress responses. LASSO regression pinpointed 12 genes, including HSPA1L, as significant markers for PD, with nomogram and calibration plots indicating predictive accuracy. Stratification based on HSPA1L expression in PD highlighted differentially active biological processes, immune responses, and metabolic disruptions. In the pan-cancer analysis, HSPA1L showed variable expression across cancer types and a significant correlation with patient survival and immune infiltration. In glioma, low HSPA1L expression was associated with worse overall survival, distinct immune infiltration patterns, and altered pathway activities. Conclusion: This integrative study reveals the substantial role of HSPs, especially HSPA1L, in the pathogenesis and prognosis of PD and glioma. Our findings offer new perspectives on the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases and propose HSPA1L as a potential prognostic biomarker and a target for therapeutic intervention.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one among the major causes of mortality all round the globe. Several anti-platelet regimens have been proposed following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In this analysis, we aimed to show the adverse clinical outcomes associated with ticagrelor monotherapy after a short course of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with ticagrelor and aspirin following PCI in patients with versus without diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods Electronic databases were searched by four authors from September to November 2023. Cardiovascular outcomes and bleeding events were the endpoints of this analysis. Revman 5.4 software was used to conduct this meta-analysis. Risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to represent the results which were generated. Results Three studies with a total number of 22,574 participants enrolled from years 2013 to 2019 were included in this analysis. Results of this analysis showed that DM was associated with significantly higher risks of major adverse cardiovascular events (RR: 1.73, 95% CI: 1.49 – 2.00; P = 0.00001), all-cause mortality (RR: 2.15, 95% CI: 1.73 – 2.66; P = 0.00001), cardiac death (RR: 2.82, 95% CI: 1.42 – 5.60; P = 0.003), stroke (RR: 1.78, 95% CI: 1.16 – 2.74; P = 0.009), myocardial infarction (RR: 1.63, 95% CI: 1.17 – 2.26; P = 0.004) and stent thrombosis (RR: 1.74, 95% CI: 1.03 – 2.94; P = 0.04) when compared to patients without DM. However, thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) defined minor and major bleedings, bleeding defined according to the academic research consortium (BARC) type 3c (RR: 1.31, 95% CI: 0.14 – 11.90; P = 0.81) and BARC type 2, 3 or 5 (RR: 1.17, 95% CI: 0.85 – 1.62; P = 0.34) were not significantly different. Conclusion In patients who were treated with ticagrelor monotherapy after a short course of DAPT with ticagrelor and aspirin, DM was an independent risk factor for the significantly increased adverse cardiovascular outcomes. However, TIMI and BARC defined bleeding events were not significantly different in patients with versus without DM.

Phomopsis vexans, which causes Phomopsis blight of eggplant, has been reported worldwide. To study the biocontrol of this disease, 162 leaf and fruit samples of eggplant Phomopsis blight were collected from Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Anhui Provinces from 2017 to 2019. Eighty-seven pathogenic fungus isolates were identified as P. vexans. The following studies were conducted: screening of sporulation medium, spore morphology analysis, mycovirus detection and identification of novel mycoviruses in these isolates. The results showed that eggplant tissue medium was the most suitable medium for rapid sporulation, and all isolates had mycoviruses consisting of mainly mixed infections. The genome of these mycoviruses varied from 1-15 kb. Five novel mycoviruses infecting P. vexans were obtained, including “Phomopsis vexans fusarivirus 1” (PvFV1), “Phomopsis vexans ourmia-like virus 1” (PvOLV1), “Phomopsis vexans endornavirus 2” (PvEV2), “Phomopsis vexans partitivirus 1” (PvPV1) and “Phomopsis vexans victorivirus L1” (PvVVL1). Thus, PvVVL1 displays a unique genome structure, and this is the first report of a victorivirus consisting of two segments and of a deltapartitivirus infecting the fungus host.

Now the measurement means of access capacity at all levels of distribution network are insufficient and it is difficult to calculate effectively based on limited data. This paper proposes a hierarchical evaluation method of access capacity of distribution network with multiple prosumer group load forecasting. Firstly, a load dynamic prediction model is constructed. According to the typical load model of historical data mining, a unit prediction model of typical users is established by using the conjugate gradient RBF neural network learning algorithm. Then, according to the charge-discharge dynamic model of the energy storage power station and the load dynamic prediction results, an assessment model of access capacity at the 10kV side was constructed. By analyzing the known load type, load type ratio and transformer capacity on the low-voltage side, the conversion coefficient of 10kV side load to 0.4kV side transformer capacity is obtained by weighting different types of loads proportionally. Then, access distribution capacity of different prosumer group can be obtained based on conversion coefficient. It can ensure the effective measurement of access capacity at all levels of distribution network under the premise of meeting N-1 safety criteria. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Terahertz wave emission from liquids excited by intense laser pulses not only reflects the details in laser–matter interaction but also offers bright terahertz wave sources. Flowing liquid targets possess the advantage of providing a fresh area for each laser pulse. To demonstrate a debris-free target under laser excitation, we investigate the use of liquid nitrogen as a target. By creating a flowing liquid nitrogen line in an ambient environment, we successfully observe broadband terahertz wave emission under short pulse excitation. Our cryogenic line is able to sustain the excitation of a high-repetition-rate (1 kHz) laser. The terahertz peak field emitted from liquid nitrogen is comparable to that from liquid water, yet a broader bandwidth is observed. This demonstration prompts opportunities in choosing potential materials for studying terahertz wave generation processes and in understanding laser-induced ionization of different liquids.

The cost of growing triploid watermelon seedlings has increased due to their low-efficiency grafting. The first priority in growing seedless watermelon seedlings is increasing the grafted-plant and seed-utilization rates. This study aimed to improve the grafted-plant rate by screening the most suitable substrate formulation, optimizing water moisture in the substrate, and evaluating the effect of different scions to improve seed-utilization rate. Five combinations of substrate (S1 to S5) and seven relative humidity levels (45%, 50%, 55%, 60%, 65%, 70%, and 75%) were used. Three types of scions (yellow bud, Ts-1; two cotyledons did not unfold, Ts-2; and first true leaf appeared, Ts-3) were tested. Results showed that the combination of S1 exhibited the best seed-utilization rate which was 71.6%. Moreover, the most suitable water moisture in the substrate ranged from 50% to 55%. The usage of the scion from Ts-3 significantly increased the grafting survival, grafted plant and seed-utilization rates by 13.7%, 10.1% and 22%, respectively, compared with the conventional method. Our study suggested that the best time to use the scion and the rootstock was during the seedling stage when the first true leaf unfolded. The proposed method decreased the production cost of seedlings and significantly improved the efficiency of grafting procedures. The results of this work are applicable to the technique of growing seedlings and can thus guide growers of high-quality grafted plants of triploid watermelon.

Leptospirosis and hantavirus syndrome are two major rodent-borne diseases in Taiwan. Rocahepevirus ratii (RHEV), a virus closely related to hepatitis E virus (HEV, Paslahepevirus balayani), is emerging and has been reported to cause hepatitis in humans. We employed wastewater-based epidemiology to actively monitor rodent-borne pathogens, and the correlations with human cases were evaluated. Wastewater was collected using grab sampling at 11 sites along a sewer system including influents and effluents at a wastewater treatment plant in Tamsui, New Taipei City, Taiwan, monthly during June 2023 to May 2024. The presence of pathogens was examined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The result showed an overall positivity rate of 38.2% (50/131). Leptospira was detected most often (48/131, 36.6%), and RHEV and hantaviruses were found once each during the study period. Sequencing identified Leptospira interrogans close to isolates from rodents and human cases, while sequences of hantavirus and RHEV were most similar to isolates from rodents. No significant correlation was found with human cases or positive samples for rodent DNA. Here, we present an example of a One Health approach applying wastewater to environmental surveillance for the early detection and prevention of emerging diseases.
