Abstract

In many countries, recent boosts in the construction and renovation sectors and energy efficiency directives are driving a growing interest in the built environment among designers and maintainers. In this context, customized software solutions tailored for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Building Energy Modelling (BEM) are proving to be indispensable for optimizing operational efficiency within the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner, and Operator (AECOO) sector and for facilitating the generation of buildings' Digital Twins (DTs). These DTs rely on accurate geometry and ancillary information (semantics, sensors, etc.) to define properties of single elements, enabling crucial simulations in structural conditions or energy needs. However, BIM and BEM model creation and their enrichment with semantic information are highly time-consuming and prone to manual errors. Hence, there is an increasing demand for automatic methods featuring a high level of geometric accuracy to reconstruct building elements, such as walls, floors, and openings captured via 3D reality-based surveying. This paper introduces an automated method for creating Boundary Representation (B-Rep) models from 3D surveying data for the generation of digital building replicas. The method is based on the detection and computation of topological elements from 3D reality-based point clouds. Abstract

The availability of high-resolution data and accurate ground truth is essential to evaluate and compare methods and algorithms properly. Moreover, it is often difficult to acquire real data for a given application domain that is sufficiently representative and heterogeneous in terms of scene representation, acquisition conditions, point of view, etc. To overcome the limitations of available datasets, this paper presents a new synthetic, multi-purpose dataset called ENRICH for testing photogrammetric and computer vision algorithms. Compared to existing datasets, ENRICH offers higher resolution images rendered with different lighting conditions, camera orientations, scales, and fields of view. Specifically, ENRICH is composed of three sub-datasets: ENRICH-Aerial, ENRICH-Square, and ENRICH-Statue, each exhibiting different characteristics. We show the usefulness of the proposed dataset on several examples of photogrammetry and computer vision-related tasks such as: evaluation of hand-crafted and deep learning-based local features, effects of ground control points (GCPs) configuration on the 3D accuracy, and monocular depth estimation. 13. Lo spazio virtuale del passato. Documentazione, modellazione e fruizione virtuale del patrimonio archeologico. Il Parco Archeologico di Pausilypon

Abstract

L’archeologia, fondata su una cultura materiale da registrare, interpretare e trasmettere, è una disciplina essenzialmente visuale. La nascita di nuovi processi di produzione delle immagini rende il tema della visualizzazione archeologica, in particolare, sempre più centrale. L’introduzione delle tecnologie digitali nel campo del patrimonio culturale ha segnato, infatti, l’inizio di un processo di “virtualizzazione” della conoscenza e della conservazione dei beni. Nei sistemi di produzione della conoscenza della “Virtual and Cyber-Era”, l’immagine archeologica trova così una sua nuova dimensione, digitale, tridimensionale, poli-funzionale, virtuale ed interattiva. La tesi presenta il lavoro di documentazione e modellazione tridimensionale condotto nel Parco Archeologico di Pausilypon, presentando lo sviluppo di tour virtuali per la fruizione virtuale dei modelli digitali.
