Background and Objective: Mothers' attitudes towards the possibility of an accident and its related preventive measures can affect children's injuries. Psychological theories and constructs provide an opportunity to explain how people's attitudes affect their decision making in adoption of a health behavior. This study examined attitudes of women from Jiroft city about prevention of home injuries in children under 5 years through Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) in 2015. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 204 mothers with children less than 5 years were selected from those who referred to health centers of Jiroft in 2015. In this regard, random cluster sampling method was applied. A self-administered questionnaire based on PMT was used to collect information. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to investigate the distribution of responses to the questions. Later, one-way ANOVA and independent t-test were applied to observe the relationship between demographic variables and protection motivation. Results: The age range of mothers was 16 - 49 years. History of domestic injuries was reported in 22.5 percent of participants. It was more than six months that 70.6 % of mothers were implementing safety measures at home. In threat assessment processes, mothers' most important attitudes were related to fear of home injuries (46.6 %); however, in coping assessment processes, it was related to perceived self-efficacy (51.9%). Conclusion: The results showed that increase of fear and perceived self-efficacy in mothers has a greater role in their motivation to prevent home injuries. Background: Fracture of the femur is one of the most common fractures that, if not stabilized and treated properly, may lead to severe disability, impairment of the individual's efficiency, and numerous complications. This study aimed to evaluate the treatment results of femoral shaft fracture with two methods intramedullary nail (IMN) and Plate., Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 patients with femoral bone fractures were admitted to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Jiroft in 2020 and were treated for at least one year after discharge. They were divided into two treatment groups - Plate fracture fixation (n = 30) and IMN fracture fixation (n = 30). Data were collected using a researcher-made checklist including patient demographics and treatment outcomes. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS-v 26 statistical software and descriptive and inferential statistical tests at a significance level of p < 0.05., Results: Patients in the Plate treatment group were generally older (50-60 years) compared to the IMN treatment group (30-40 years), and there were more men than women in both groups. Only 10% of patients in each group developed superficial infections after surgery. There were more cases of deep infections in the Plate group, but it was not statistically significant. The IMN group had fewer cases of malignancy and claudication compared to the Plate group. Patients in the IMN group also returned to functional activities faster than those in the Plate group, which was a statistically significant difference., Conclusion: Considering that deep infection, non-union, malunion, claudication, and ability to return to functional activities in the group using nails treated was less than the group treated with plates, the treatment method of femoral fracture using IMN is the preferred treatment method., (© 2024. Background: Disasters can lead to large human casualties, destruction of property and economic and environmental resources. The purpose of the present study was to answer the question whether the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) is effective in predicting behaviors related to the harmful effects of natural disasters in the households of southern Iran., Materials and Methods: This quantitative and cross-sectional study was conducted on 528 households in Jiroft city. Sampling was done by combined method (the combination of cluster, simple random, proportional and systematic random sampling). A total of 528 households were included. The tools for collecting data were demographic information and a researcher-made questionnaire related to PMT constructs and preventive behaviors from the harmful effects of natural disasters. Data was analyzed using SPSS v21 software, and the necessary analyzes (descriptive tests, chi-square, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation test) were performed at a significance level of 0.05. Using Amos v 21 software, the predictors of safety behaviors were determined using path analysis., Results: The results showed 51.7% lived in the city and 62.1% of residential buildings were of brick without markings. There is a significant difference between preventive behaviors and direct exposure to disasters ( p < 0.001), education ( p = 0.004), monthly income ( p = 0.004) and source of information ( p = 0.040). There was also a significant correlation between preventive behaviors and the number of vulnerable family members ( p = 0.001, r = 0.160). Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women. Identifying and avoiding the preventable risk factors of BC reduces its occurrence effectively. So, this study aimed to assess BC's risk factors and risk perception status in Babol, Northern Iran., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 400 women aged 18 to 70 in Babol, Northern Iran. According to the eligibility criteria, the selected participants completed the demographic characteristics and researcher-made valid and reliable questionnaires. The statistical software was SPSS20., Results: The significant risk factors related to BC were old age (60 years old and more) (30.2%), obesity (25.8%), history of radiation (10%), and familial history of BC (9.5%), respectively (P < 0.05). Suspected symptoms of BC were observed in 78 (19.5%) women, including indentations in 27 (6.75%), redness in 15 (3.75%), pain in 16 (4%), and enlargement of lymph nodes in 20 (5%). The BC risk perception score was 107.72±13.22., Conclusion: Most participants had at least one risk factor for BC. It is essential to implement intervention programs to control obesity and BC screening programs in obese and overweight women to prevent BC and its complications. The objective of this study was to investigate the impacts of replacing alfalfa hay with Artemisia sieberi leaves (ASL) on growth performance, feeding behaviors, total tract feed digestibility, ruminal fermentation as well as blood cells, and biochemical parameters. A total of 21 Kermani male lambs (average body weight (BW) of 25.2 ± 0.9 kg) were randomly divided into three groups and offered the following treatments: (1) basal diet (65% concentrate and 35% alfalfa hay as forage source), (2) ASL inclusion at 25% of forage source (8.75% of TMR, ASL25), and (3) ASL addition at 50% of forage source (17.5% of TMR, ASL50). The experiment lasted for 64 days, including 14 days of adaptation and 50 days of data collection. Dietary ASL inclusion decreased lambs' feed consumption (6.7 and 2.8% reduction in ASL25 and ASL50, respectively, p < 0.05) without affecting water intake, final BW, daily weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. Moreover, feeding behaviors, including time spent for eating, ruminating, and chewing activities, were uninfluenced by the dietary ASL addition on days 25 and 50 of the experiment. Based on the data provided, the substitution of alfalfa hay with ASL resulted in an increase in the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, and neutral detergent fiber (p < 0.05). In addition, the ruminal fluid of ASL-fed lambs had a lower molar proportion of acetate and a higher proportion of propionate compared to that of the control animals (p < 0.05), whereas other volatile fatty acids (VFA) and total VFA were not different between the experimental groups. Blood hematocrit, hemoglobin, red cells, white cells, and their differentiation, platelets, glucose, total protein, albumin, globulin, triglyceride, calcium, phosphorus, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase, urea, total antioxidant capacity, and malondialdehyde remained unchanged when ASL was included in the diet. Regardless of the slight decrease in dry matter intake, the lack of adverse effects of dietary ASL addition on growth performance, feeding behaviors, rumen fermentation, and blood hemato-biochemical parameters, along with positive impacts of ASL on propionate production and total tract feed digestibility, suggest that Artemisia sieberi leaves can be considered as a potential alternative feed resource for small ruminants., (© 2023. Background: Understanding tuberculosis (TB) treatment programs' process and the outcome is one of the critical strategies to prevent the disease's occurrence and accelerate achieving sustainable development goals to reduce TB cases. The present study aimed to evaluate directly observed treatment short-course (DOTs) for tuberculosis., Methods: The present cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study extracted information from the tuberculosis surveillance system's recorded data by a researcher-made checklist with questions from patients and health system staff. We analyzed the data by SPSS version 20., Results: The outcome of patients' treatment was 85.39% improved, and the rest were death and failure of treatment and absence from treatment. The mean and standard deviation of the onset of the first symptom and diagnosis and detection of the disease was 117 and 126 days, respectively. The mean and standard deviation of the interval between diagnosis and treatment was 5.53 and 8.03 days, respectively. Regarding the treatment length, 95.5% of the cases followed the treatment length, and the rest were not observed. The history of hospitalization was 45.3% among patients, and the rest had no history of hospitalization, and the mean and standard deviation of the day of hospitalization were 6.68 ± 9.50 days., Conclusions: The existence of an appropriate program for early diagnosis of tuberculosis, observing the length of treatment, training private and public centers to strengthen the care system, and strengthening the DOTs program to control tuberculosis seems to be necessary., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest The authors have none to declare., (Copyright © 2021 Tuberculosis Association of India. Alternative medicine, has become popular in asthmatic patients. We evaluated the immunomodulatory effects of SINA 1.2 therapy protocol derived from Persian medicine in an asthmatic mice model. Forty-two male BALB/c mice divided into six groups: one control (sham) and five sensitized groups (by parenteral injection of 20 μg ovalbumin in 100 μL normal saline plus 50 μL alum on days 1 and 14). Sensitized groups were as: untreated, budesonide (1 mg nebulized budesonide: 200 μg/puff every 5 min for 25 min), dry sauna (30 min, 37°C), oral oxymel (gavaged: 0.2 mL of the syrup plus 0.8 mL of water), and SINA protocol No.1.2 (oxymel followed by sauna) groups. Treatments were given for 10 days from day 23 to 33 then sacrificed. Significant gene expression reduction of interleukin(IL)-4, IL-5, and MUC5AC and increase of interferon(IFN)-γ and IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio and decreased perivascular and peribronchial inflammation, goblet cell hyperplasia, and subsequent mucus hypersecretion in SINA group were seen compared to untreated group. SINA lowered IL-5 and MUC5AC gene expression levels similar to the budesonide and acted better than budesonide in increasing IFN-γ gene expression up to normal level. Compared with the asthma group, sauna alone only affected MUC5AC and IFN-γ gene expressions and oxymel alone, only reduced IL-4 gene expression, perivascular and peribronchial inflammation, and mucus hypersecretion. It seems that SINA therapy alleviates asthma via immune modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and improvement of pathological changes in ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice, supporting the notion of innate healing power mentioned in Persian medicine literature.

Objectives: Existing evidence produces conflicting findings regarding the effect of sesame intake on inflammatory biomarkers; this knowledge gap has yet to be met through systematic review and meta-analysis. This meta-analysis of randomized, controlled clinical trials (RCTs) was conducted to evaluate the effects of sesame consumption on markers of inflammation in humans., Methods: PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched through August 2020 to identify relevant papers for inclusion. Using the random-effects model, data were evaluated as weighted mean differences (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Cochrane's Q and I -squared ( I 2 ) tests were used to identify within-studies heterogeneity., Results: Seven RCTs with 310 participants (157 intervention and 153 control) were included in the meta-analysis. Sesame consumption reduced serum level interleukin-6 (IL-6) (WMD - 0.90; 95% CI (-1.71, -0.09), I 2  = 80.4%) compared to the control group. However, sesame intake had no significant effects on C-reactive protein (CRP) and tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α ) compared to the control group. Subgroup analysis identified a reduction in serum CRP, TNF- α , and IL-6 concentration among studies with participants who had a higher level of these biomarkers at baseline, those which used sesamin capsules, and those with a bigger sample size, those conducted in Asia, and studies on females., Conclusion: Sesame consumption reduced serum levels of IL-6 but did not affect CRP and TNF- α in humans. Purpose: Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) have provided varied and conflicting findings regarding the effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on inflammatory biomarkers. This study was conducted to review existing literature to determine whether NAC supplementation can affect inflammatory biomarkers in adults., Methods: Bibliographic databases of Scopus, and PubMed were used for relevant papers published until October 2019. Results were reported as weighted mean differences (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using multi-level models. Cochrane's Q and I-squared (I 2 ) tests were used to determine heterogeneity among studies., Results: Twenty-four RCTs which include 1057 sample size were entered to analysis. NAC doses and intervention duration ranged from 400 to 2000 mg/d, and 1 to 80 weeks, respectively. Oral supplementation of NAC reduced serum level of C-reactive protein (CRP) [WMD: -0.61 mg/L, 95% CI: -1.18 to -0.03, P = 0.039, I 2  = 79.6%], and interleukin-6 (IL-6) [WMD: -0.43 pg/mL, 95% CI: -0.69 to -0.17, P = 0.001, I 2  = 89.3%]. However, the effect of oral NAC supplementation on other inflammatory biomarkers was nonsignificant. Dose-response investigation showed a non-linear association between oral NAC supplementation with CRP., Conclusion: Oral NAC supplementation reduced serum level of CRP and IL-6, but did not affect other inflammatory biomarkers. Homologous recombination (HR) is initiated by DNA end resection, a process in which stretches of single-strand DNA (ssDNA) are generated and used for homology search. Factors implicated in resection include nucleases MRE11, EXO1, and DNA2, which process DNA ends into 3' ssDNA overhangs; helicases such as BLM, which unwind DNA; and other proteins such as BRCA1 and CtIP whose functions remain unclear. CDK-mediated phosphorylation of CtIP on T847 is required to promote resection, whereas CDK-dependent phosphorylation of CtIP-S327 is required for interaction with BRCA1. Here, we provide evidence that CtIP functions independently of BRCA1 in promoting DSB end resection. First, using mouse models expressing S327A or T847A mutant CtIP as a sole species, and B cells deficient in CtIP, we show that loss of the CtIP-BRCA1 interaction does not detectably affect resection, maintenance of genomic stability or viability, whereas T847 is essential for these functions. Second, although loss of 53BP1 rescues the embryonic lethality and HR defects in BRCA1-deficient mice, it does not restore viability or genome integrity in CtIP(-/-) mice. Third, the increased resection afforded by loss of 53BP1 and the rescue of BRCA1-deficiency depend on CtIP but not EXO1. Finally, the sensitivity of BRCA1-deficient cells to poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibition is partially rescued by the phospho-mimicking mutant CtIP (CtIP-T847E). Thus, in contrast to BRCA1, CtIP has indispensable roles in promoting resection and embryonic development.
