Development of the craniofacial skeleton requires interactions between progenitor cells and the collagen-rich extracellular matrix (ECM). The mediators of these interactions are not well-defined. Mutations in the discoidin domain receptor 2 gene (DDR2), which encodes a non-integrin collagen receptor, are associated with human craniofacial abnormalities, such as midface hypoplasia and open fontanels. However, the exact role of this gene in craniofacial morphogenesis is not known. As will be shown, Ddr2-deficient mice exhibit defects in craniofacial bones including impaired calvarial growth and frontal suture formation, cranial base hypoplasia due to aberrant chondrogenesis and delayed ossification at growth plate synchondroses. These defects were associated with abnormal collagen fibril organization, chondrocyte proliferation and polarization. As established by localization and lineage-tracing studies, Ddr2 is expressed in progenitor cell-enriched craniofacial regions including sutures and synchondrosis resting zone cartilage, overlapping with GLI1 + cells, and contributing to chondrogenic and osteogenic lineages during skull growth. Tissue-specific knockouts further established the requirement for Ddr2 in GLI +skeletal progenitors and chondrocytes. These studies establish a cellular basis for regulation of craniofacial morphogenesis by this understudied collagen receptor and suggest that DDR2 is necessary for proper collagen organization, chondrocyte proliferation, and orientation.

Abstract Discoidin Domain Receptor 2 (DDR2) is a collagen-activated receptor kinase that, together with integrins, is required for cells to respond to the extracellular matrix. Ddr2 loss-of-function mutations in humans and mice cause severe defects in skeletal growth and development. However, the cellular functions of Ddr2 in bone are not understood. Expression and lineage analysis showed selective expression of Ddr2 at early stages of bone formation in the resting zone and proliferating chondrocytes and periosteum. Consistent with these findings, Ddr2 + cells could differentiate into hypertrophic chondrocytes, osteoblasts, and osteocytes and showed a high degree of colocalization with the skeletal progenitor marker, Gli1. A conditional deletion approach showed a requirement for Ddr2 in Gli1-positive skeletal progenitors and chondrocytes but not mature osteoblasts. Furthermore, Ddr2 knockout in limb bud chondroprogenitors or purified marrow-derived skeletal progenitors inhibited chondrogenic or osteogenic differentiation, respectively. This work establishes a cell-autonomous function for Ddr2 in skeletal progenitors and cartilage and emphasizes the critical role of this collagen receptor in bone development.

ABSTRACT Hypophosphatasia (HPP), caused by loss‐of‐function mutations in the ALPL gene encoding tissue‐nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP), is characterized by skeletal and dental hypomineralization that can vary in severity from life‐threatening to milder manifestations only in adulthood. PHOSPHO1 deficiency leads to early‐onset scoliosis, osteomalacia, and fractures that mimic pseudo‐HPP. Asfotase alfa, a life‐saving enzyme replacement therapy approved for pediatric‐onset HPP, requires subcutaneous injections 3 to 6 times per week. We recently showed that a single injection of an adeno‐associated virus vector serotype 8 harboring TNAP‐D10 (AAV8‐TNAP‐D10) effectively prevented skeletal disease and prolonged life in Alpl−/− mice phenocopying infantile HPP. Here, we aimed to determine the efficacy of AAV8‐TNAP‐D10 in improving the skeletal and dental phenotype in the AlplPrx1/Prx1 and Phospho1−/− mouse models of late‐onset (adult) HPP and pseudo‐HPP, respectively. A single dose of 3 × 1011 vector genomes per body (vg/b) was injected intramuscularly into 8‐week‐old AlplPrx1/Prx1 and wild‐type (WT) littermates, or into 3‐day‐old Phospho1−/− and WT mice, and treatment efficacy was evaluated after 60 days for late‐onset HPP mice and after 90 days for Phospho1−/− mice. Biochemical analysis showed sustained serum alkaline phosphatase activity and reduced plasma PPi levels, and radiographic images, micro‐computed tomography (micro‐CT) analysis, and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining showed improvements in the long bones in the late‐onset HPP mice and corrected scoliosis in the Phospho1−/− mice. Micro‐CT analysis of the dentoalveolar complex did not reveal significant changes in the phenotype of late‐onset HPP and pseudo‐HPP models. Moreover, alizarin red staining analysis showed that AAV8‐TNAP‐D10 treatment did not promote ectopic calcification of soft organs in adult HPP mice after 60 days of treatment, even after inducing chronic kidney disease. Overall, the AAV8‐TNAP‐D10 treatment improved the skeletal phenotype in both the adult HPP and pseudo‐HPP mouse models. Mineralization of the skeleton occurs by several physicochemical and biochemical processes and mechanisms that facilitate the deposition of hydroxyapatite (HA) in specific areas of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two key phosphatases, phosphatase, orphan 1 (PHOSPHO1) and tissue-non-specific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP), play complementary roles in the mineralization process. The actions of PHOSPHO1 on phosphocholine and phosphoethanolamine in matrix vesicles (MVs) produce inorganic phosphate (Pi) for the initiation of HA mineral formation within MVs. TNAP hydrolyzes adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and the mineralization inhibitor, inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi), to generate Pi that is incorporated into MVs. Genetic mutations in the ALPL gene-encoding TNAP lead to hypophosphatasia (HPP), characterized by low circulating TNAP levels (ALP), rickets in children and/or osteomalacia in adults, and a spectrum of dentoalveolar defects, the most prevalent being lack of acellular cementum leading to premature tooth loss. Given that the skeletal manifestations of genetic ablation of the Phospho1 gene in mice resemble many of the manifestations of HPP, we propose that Phospho1 gene mutations may underlie some cases of “pseudo-HPP” where ALP may be normal to subnormal, but ALPL mutation(s) have not been identified. The goal of this perspective article is to compare and contrast the loss-of-function effects of TNAP and PHOSPHO1 on the dentoalveolar complex to predict the likely dental phenotype in humans that may result from PHOSPHO1 mutations. Potential cases of pseudo-HPP associated with PHOSPHO1 mutations may resist diagnosis, and the dental manifestations could be a key criterion for consideration.

Background and objective: Milk adulteration is an illegal treatment for milk in Egypt. Therefore, the goal of the current investigation was to identify and evaluate the potential milk adulterations that suppliers from different sources in El-Beheira governorate added to cow's and buffalo's milks. Materials and methods: A total of 180 samples of cow's and buffalo's milks (90 each) from different sources in El-Beheira governorate (farmer's houses, supermarkets and collecting milk centers, each 30 for each species) were collected randomly. The physicochemical analysis was performed, in addition to, detection of common commercial additives as well as antibiotics' residues. Results: The physicochemical parameters of specific gravity and freezing point reflected the addition of water in the examined cow's and buffalo's milk samples; in addition to, the detection of adulterants, in which, the milk samples from supermarkets had higher antibiotics' residues in a percentage of 20%, and also sodium bicarbonate, melamine and formalin in incidences higher than those from farmers' houses and collecting milk centers. Conclusion: The examined cow's and buffalo's milk samples from different sources were adulterated especially from the supermarkets which had higher incidences of sodium bicarbonate, melamine and formalin in addition to antibiotics' residues. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an alkylphenol endocrine disruptor chemical (EDC). It is a building block for polycarbonate (PC) plastics and epoxy resins and it is used in food packaging, canned foods, baby bottles, baby food jars and medical devices. Recently, researchers have shown an increased interest in BPA and its effect on reproduction, neurodevelopment and metabolism. The experimental data are rather controversial, and there is no general consensus about BPA's effects. The primary requirement for electrode materials in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) is efficient electrocatalyst that exhibit high tolerance to methanol oxidation, excellent stability, and reasonable cost. The combination of distinct active materials with distinctive architectures may facilitate the attainment of this objective. The present study included the preparation of a Carbon Xerogel Doped with various metal oxides derived from Banana peels. The nanocomposites were thoroughly examined utilizing several characterization modalities including XRD, FTIR, and SEM. The electrocatalytic performance of Carbon xerogel doped with Iron (Fe3O4/CX), carbon xerogel doped with magnesium (MgO/CX), and carbon xerogel doped with Copper (CuO/CX) about the Methanol Oxidation Reaction (MOR) was investigated using electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, and chronoamperometry. The results showed that the Fe3O4/CX, MgO/CX, and CuO/CX are effective electrocatalysts with an onset potential of around 1.00 V and current densities of approximately 42.98 mA cm - 2, 28.2784 mA.cm - 2, and 6.60698 mA.cm - 2, respectively, in the optimized electrolyte for methanol oxidation. The stability of Fe3O4/CX, MgO/CX, and CuO/CX electrodes was examined using chronoamperometry and the Cyclic Stability method. The results revealed that the (Fe3O4/CX) electrode exhibited outstanding stability throughout the whole 60-minute chronoamperometry Technique and demonstrated great stability for 100 cycles in the Cyclic Stability technique. The remarkable electrochemical activity and stability may be attributed to the synergistic effect of Fe3O4/CX, which provided sufficient active sites for methanol electro-oxidation and reduced the equivalent series resistance, as shown by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis. This work used environmentally friendly materials, which presents a novel opportunity to enhance the efficiency of methanol oxidation via the utilization of affordable catalysts. ADAM10 is a multi-functional proteinase that can cleave approximately 100 different substrates. Previously, it was demonstrated that ADAM10 is expressed by ameloblasts, which are required for enamel formation. The goal of this study was to determine if ADAM10 is necessary for enamel development. Deletion of Adam10 in mice is embryonically lethal and deletion of Adam10 from epithelia is perinatally lethal. We therefore deleted Adam10 from ameloblasts. Ameloblast-specific expression of the Tg( Amelx -i Cre )872pap construct was confirmed. These mice were crossed with Adam10 floxed mice to generate Amelx- i Cre ; Adam10 fl/fl mice ( Adam10 cKO). The Adam10 cKO mice had discolored teeth with softer than normal enamel. Notably, the Adam10 cKO enamel density and volume were significantly reduced in both incisors and molars. Moreover, the incisor enamel rod pattern became progressively more disorganized, moving from the DEJ to the outer enamel surface, and this disorganized rod structure created gaps and S-shaped rods. ADAM10 cleaves proteins essential for cell signaling and for enamel formation such as RELT and COL17A1. ADAM10 also cleaves cell-cell contacts such as E- and N-cadherins that may support ameloblast movement necessary for normal rod patterns. This study shows, for the first time, that ADAM10 expressed by ameloblasts is essential for proper enamel formation.

Layer double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles (NPs) have been applied to enhance plant growth and productivity. However, their effects on carbon and nitrogen metabolism of aromatic plants, are not well understood. Therefore, we investigated the impact of foliar application of Zn-Al LDH and Mg-Al LDH NPs (10 ppm) on the growth and metabolism of geranium plants. Zn-Al LDH and Mg-Al LDH NPs significantly increased the dry biomass, photosynthetic pigment, and Zn and Mg uptake by treated plants. These increases were consistent with increased primary metabolism such as soluble sugars and their metabolic enzymes (invertase and amylase). The supply of high sugar levels induced TCA organic accumulation, providing a pathway for amino acid biosynthesis. Among amino acids, proline level and its biosynthetic enzymes such as pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase (P5CR), ornithine aminotransferase (OAT), and pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS), glutamine synthetase (GS), and arginase were increased. Increased primary metabolites can then be channeled into secondary metabolic pathways, leading to higher levels of secondary metabolites including tocopherols, phenolics, and flavonoids. These observed increases in primary and secondary metabolites also improve the biological value of geranium plants. The patterning of functional structures is crucial in the field of materials science. Despite the enticing nature of two-dimensional surfaces, the task of directly modeling them with regular structures remains a significant challenge. Here we present a novel method to pattern a two-dimensional polymer in a controlled way assisted by chemical polymerization, which is confirmed through discernible observation. The fabrication process involves in situ polymerization to create 2D layers of polypyrrole (PPy) on extended 2D TiO 2 nanoribbons, resulting in oriented arrays known as 2D PPy/TiO 2 . These arrays exhibit enhanced electrochemical performance, making them ideal for supercapacitor applications. The skeleton structure of this material is distinctive, characterized by a homogeneous distribution of layers containing various elements. Additionally, it possesses a large contact surface, which effectively reduces the distance for ion transport and electron transfer. The 2D PPy/TiO 2 electrode has a maximum specific capacitance of 280 F g -1 at an applied current density of 0.5 A g -1 . Moreover, it demonstrates excellent rate capability and cycling stability. Cryptosporidiosis is a global health problem threats life of immunocompromised patients. Allium sativum (A. sativum) is one of the therapeutic options for cryptosporidiosis. This study develops green synthesized ZnO-NPs based on A. sativum extract, and assesses its therapeutic application in treating experimental cryptosporidiosis in immunosuppressed mice. FTIR, scanning electron microscopy, and zeta analyzer were used for characterization of bio ZnO-NPs. The morphology of prepared materials appeared as sponge with many pores on the whole surface that allows the feasibility of bio ZnO-NPs for different biological activities. Its structural analysis was highly stabilized with negative charge surface which indicated for well distribution into the parasite matrix. Twenty-five immunosuppressed Cryptosporidium parvum infected mice, classified into 5 groups were sacrificed at 21th day after infection with evaluation of parasitological, histopathological, oxidative, and proinflammatory biomarkers. Treated mice groups with 50 and 100 mg/kg of AS/ZnO-NPs showed a highly significant decline (79.9% and 83.23%, respectively) in the total number of expelled oocysts. Both doses revealed actual amelioration of the intestinal, hepatic, and pulmonary histopathological lesions. They also significantly produced an increase in GSH values and improved the changes in NO and MDA levels, and showed high anti-inflammatory properties. This study is the first to report green synthesis of ZnO/A. sativum nano-composite as an effective therapy in treating cryptosporidiosis which gave better results than using A. sativum alone. It provides an economical and environment-friendly approach towards novel delivery synthesis for antiparasitic applications. The development of nanoparticles (NPs) with active components with upgraded stability, and prolonged release helps in enhanced tissue regeneration. In addition, NPs are feasible strategy to boost antibiotic effectiveness and reduce drug side effects. Our study focuses on the use of amikacin (AMK) and gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) unloaded combinations or loaded on chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) for kidney protection. The AMK-GABA-CSNPs were prepared with the ionic gelation method, the morphology was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), zetasizer and the Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectrum of the synthesized NPs was observed. The average size of AMK-GABA-CSNPs was 77.5 ± 16.5 nm. Zeta potential was + 38.94 ± 2.65 mV. AMK-GABA-CSNPs revealed significant in vitro antioxidant, anti-coagulation, non-hemolytic properties and good cell compatibility. To compare the effects of the unloaded AMK-GABA combination and AMK-GABA-CSNPs on the renal tissue, 42 healthy Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into seven groups. G1: normal control (NC), normal saline; G2: low-dose nephrotoxic group (LDN), AMK (20 mg/kg/day; i.p.); G3: unloaded AMK (20 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and GABA (50 mg/kg/day; i.p.); G4: AMK-GABA-CSNPs (20 mg/kg/day; i.p.); G5: high-dose nephrotoxic group (HDN), AMK (30 mg/kg/day; i.p.); G6: unloaded AMK (30 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and GABA (50 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and G7: AMK-GABA-CSNPs (30 mg/kg/day; i.p.). The results showed that AMK-GABA-CSNPs formulation is superior to unloaded AMK-GABA combination as it ameliorated kidney functions, oxidative stress and displayed a significant homeostatic role via suppression of inflammatory cytokines of Th1, Th2 and Th17 types. In agriculture, hydrogels can be addressed for effective operation of water and controlled-release fertilizers. Hydrogels have a significant ability for retaining water and improving nutrient availability in soil, enhancing plant growth while reducing water and fertilizer usage. This work aimed to prepare a hydrogel composite based on microalgae and biopolymers including chitosan and starch for use as a soil conditioner. The hydrogel composite was characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM. All hydrogel properties were studied including swelling degree, biodegradability, water-holding capacity, water retention, and re-swelling capacity in soil and water. The urea fertilizer loading and releasing behavior of the prepared hydrogels were investigated. The results revealed that the range of the maximal urea loading was between 99 and 440%, and the kinetics of loading was fitted with Freundlich model. The urea release % exhibited 78-95%, after 30 days, and the kinetics of release was fitted with zero-order, Higuchi, and Korsmeyer-Peppas models. Furthermore, the prepared hydrogels obtained a significant water-holding capacity, after blending soil (50 g) with small amount of hydrogels (1 g), the capacity increased in the range of 99.4-101.5%. The development of nanomaterials has been speedily established in recent years, yet nanoparticles synthesized by traditional methods suffer unacceptable toxicity and the sustainability of the procedure for synthesizing such nanoparticles is inadequate. Consequently, green biosynthesis, which employs biopolymers, is gaining attraction as an environmentally sound alternative to less sustainable approaches. Chitosan-encapsulated nanoparticles exhibit exceptional antibacterial properties, offering a wide range of uses. Chitosan, obtained from shrimp shells, aided in the environmentally friendly synthesis of high-purity zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) with desirable features such as the extraction yield (41%), the deacetylation (88%), and the crystallinity index (74.54%). The particle size of ZnO NPs was 12 nm, while that of chitosan-ZnO NPs was 21 nm, and the bandgap energies of these nanomaterials were 3.98 and 3.48, respectively. The strong antibacterial action was demonstrated by ZnO NPs, chitosan-ZnO NPs, and chitosan-ZnO/PVP, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, making them appropriate for therapeutic use. The photocatalytic degradation abilities were also assessed for all nanoparticles. At a concentration of 6 × 10 -5  M, chitosan removed 90.5% of the methylene blue (MB) dye, ZnO NPs removed 97.4%, chitosan-coated ZnO NPs removed 99.6%, while chitosan-ZnO/PVP removed 100%. In the case of toluidine blue (TB), at a concentration of 4 × 10 -3  M, the respective efficiencies were 96.8%, 96.8%, 99.5%, and 100%, respectively. Evaluation of radical scavenger activity revealed increased scavenging of ABTS and DPPH radicals by chitosan-ZnO/PVP compared to individual zinc oxide or chitosan-ZnO, where the IC50 results were 0.059, 0.092, 0.079 mg/mL, respectively, in the ABTS test, and 0.095, 0.083, 0.061, and 0.064 mg/mL in the DPPH test, respectively. Moreover, in silico toxicity studies were conducted to predict the organ-specific toxicity through ProTox II software. The main cause of cancer death among women is breast cancer. The most common type of breast cancer is the estrogen receptor positive breast cancer. Discovery of estrogen receptor provided a highly effective target for treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer. Selective estrogen receptor inhibitors are useful for halting the growth of breast cancer cells and inducing apoptosis. Tamoxifen, a popular selective estrogen receptor modulator, can treat breast cancer but also has unfavourable side effects due to its estrogenic activity in other tissues. Many herbal remedies and bioactive natural compounds, such as genistein, resveratrol, ursolic acid, betulinic acid, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, prenylated isoflavonoids, zearalenol, coumestrol, pelargonidin, delphinidin, and biochanin A, have the ability to specifically modulate the estrogen receptor alpha. Moreover, several of these compounds speed up cell death by supressing estrogen receptor gene expression. This opens wide avenue to introduce number of natural medicines with a revolutionary therapeutic impact and few side effects.

Copper oxide-based nanocomposites are promising electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors due to their unique properties that aid electrolyte access and ion diffusion to the electrode surface. Herein, a facile and low-cost synthesis in situ strategy based on co-precipitation and incorporation processes of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), followed by in situ oxidative polymerization of aniline monomer has been reported. CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI nanocomposite revealed the good distribution of CuO@Cu 4 O 3 and rGO within the polymer matrix which allows improved electron transport and ion diffusion process. Galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) results displayed a higher specific capacitance value of 508 F g -1 for CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI at 1.0 A g -1 in comparison to the pure CuO@Cu 4 O 3 278 F g -1 . CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI displays an energy density of 23.95 W h kg -1 and power density of 374 W kg -1 at the current density of 1 A g -1 which is 1.8 times higher than that of CuO@Cu 4 O 3 (13.125 W h kg -1 ) at the same current density. The retention of the electrode was 93% of its initial capacitance up to 5000 cycles at a scan rate of 100 mV s -1 . The higher capacitance of the CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI electrode was credited to the formation of a fibrous network structure and rapid ion diffusion paths through the nanocomposite matrix that resulted in enhanced surface-dependent electrochemical properties., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts to declare., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)

Background: This study focuses on health-related content (HRC) on YouTube and addresses the issue of misinformation on this platform. While previous research centered on content evaluations by experts, this study takes a user-centered approach and aims to explore users' experiences with and perceptions of HRC videos and to establish links between these perceptions and some socio-demographic characteristics including age, gender, profession, and educational level., Methods: A quantitative research design was used in the study. 3,000 YouTube users responded to a 35-item anonymous questionnaire to collect information about the content they watch toward decision-making, their perceptions of the usefulness and bias of this content, what they identify as quality indicators for HRC, and what they recommend to improve the quality of such content on YouTube. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, and correlation analyses., Results: The results reveal that 87.6 percent (n=2630) of the participants watch HRC on YouTube, and 84.7 percent (n=2542) make decisions based on what they watch. Exercise and bodybuilding videos are the most popular, with over half of the participants watching them. 40 percent of the users watch YouTube videos to decide whether to consult a doctor or adopt specific health-related practices. In contrast to evaluations by experts in previous studies, most respondents perceive HRC videos on YouTube as useful and do not find connections between video quality and surface features like the number of views and likes. Weak or no correlations were observed between the perceived usefulness of HRC videos and age, gender, profession, or educational level. The production of green hydrogen is a promising alternative to fossil fuels. The current study focuses on the design of microalgae as a catalyst in bioelectrochemical systems for the generation of biohydrogen. Furthermore, the abovementioned target could be achieved by optimizing different parameters, including strains of microalgae, different optical filters, and their shapes. Synechocystis sp. PAK13 (Ba9), Micractinium sp. YACCYB33 (R4), and Desmodesmus intermedius (Sh42) were used and designed as free cells and immobilized microalgae for evaluating their performance for hydrogen production. Alginate was applied for immobilization not only for protecting the immobilized microalgae from stress but also for inhibiting the agglomeration of microalgae and improving stability. The amount of studied immobilized microalgae was 0.01 g/5 ml algae-dissolved in 10 ml alginate gel at 28 °C, 12 h of light (light intensity 30.4 μmol m -2  s -1 ), and 12 h of darkness with continual aeration (air bump in every strain flask) at pH = 7.2 ± 0.2 in 0.05 %wuxal buffer which has 3.7 ionic strength. Different modalities, including FTIR, UV, and SEM, were performed for the description of selected microalgae. The surface morphology of Ba9 with alginate composite (immobilized Ba9) appeared as a stacked layer with high homogeneity, which facilitates hydrogen production from water. The conversion efficiencies of the immobilized microalgae were evaluated by incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE). Under optical filters, the optimum IPCE value was ∼ 7 % at 460 nm for immobilized Ba9. Also, its number of hydrogen moles was calculated to be 16.03 mmol h -1  cm -2 under optical filters. Nanotechnology holds substantial promise in the innovative therapies for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The current study was designed to synthesize and characterize a new graphene titanate nanocomposite (GTNc) and explore its anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant potencies against Complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritis in rats, as well as investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Our characterization methods included XRD, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, zeta potential, practical size, and XRF to characterize the novel GTNc. Our findings revealed that arthritic rats treated with GTNc exhibited lower levels of RF, CRP, IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-17, and ADAMTS-5, and higher levels of IL-4 and TIMP-3. In arthritic rats, GTNc reduced LPO levels while increasing GSH content and GST antioxidant activity. Additionally, GTNc decreased the expression of the TGF-β mRNA gene in arthritic rats. Histopathological investigation showed that GTNc reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, cartilage degradation, and bone destruction in joint injuries caused by CFA in the arthritic rats. Collectively, the anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties of GTNc appear promising for future arthritis treatments and bone disability research.

Renal agenesis refers to the congenital absence or complete failure of development of one or both kidneys. It occurs when the kidneys fail to form during embryonic development. This case report describes the presentation of a 23-year-old male patient who experienced sporadic episodes of abdominal pain on the right side and occasional episodes of hematuria. Diagnostic investigations, including ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging scans, confirmed the diagnosis of right renal agenesis. The management of the patient in this case report involved close monitoring of renal function and regular follow-up visits. Initially, the patient was followed for a period of 3 months and based on the patient's clinical status and any associated risk factors, it was determined that a follow-up schedule of visits every 6 months is appropriate. This interval allows for ongoing assessment of renal function and facilitates early detection of any potential complications or changes in kidney health. Cryptosporidiosis is a global health problem that threatens the lives of immunocompromised patients. This study targets to fabricate and investigate the efficiency of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs), nitazoxanide (NTZ)-loaded ZnO-NPs, and Allium sativum (A. sativum)-loaded ZnO-NPs in treating cryptosporidiosis. Further FTIR, SEM, XRD, and zeta analysis were used for the characterization of ZnO-NPs and loaded materials. The morphology of loaded materials for ZnO-NPs changed into wrapped layers and well-distributed homogenous particles, which had a direct effect on the oocyst wall. The charge surface of all particles had a negative sign, which indicated well distribution into the parasite matrix. For anti-cryptosporidiosis efficiency, thirty immunosuppressed Cryptosporidium parvum-infected mice, classified into six groups, were sacrificed on the 21st day after infection with an evaluation of parasitological, histopathological, and oxidative markers. It was detected that the highest reduction percent of Cryptosporidium oocyst shedding was (81.5%) in NTZ, followed by (71.1%) in A. sativum-loaded ZnO-NPs-treated groups. Also, treatment with A. sativum and NTZ-loaded ZnO-NPs revealed remarkable amelioration of the intestinal, hepatic, and pulmonary histopathological lesions. Furthermore, they significantly produced an increase in GSH values and improved the changes in NO and MDA levels. In conclusion, this study is the first to report ZnO-NPs as an effective therapy for treating cryptosporidiosis, especially when combined with other treatments that enhance their antioxidant activity. Background: Usually, wounds recover in four to six weeks. Wounds that take longer time than this to heal are referred to as chronic wounds. Impaired healing can be caused by several circumstances like hypoxia, microbial colonization, deficiency of blood flow, reperfusion damage, abnormal cellular reaction and deficiencies in collagen production. Treatment of wounds can be enhanced through systemic injection of the antibacterial drugs and/or other topical applications of medications. However, there are a number of disadvantages to these techniques, including the limited or insufficient medication penetration into the underlying skin tissue and the development of bacterial resistance with repeated antibiotic treatment. One of the more recent treatment options may involve using nanotherapeutics in combination with naturally occurring biological components, such as snail extracts (SE). In this investigation, chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) were loaded with an Eobania vermiculata whole-body muscle extract. The safety of the synthesized NPs was investigated in vitro to determine if these NPs might be utilized to treat full-skin induced wounds in vivo., Results: SEM and TEM images showed uniformly distributed, spherical, smooth prepared CS NPs and snail extract-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (SE-CS NPs) with size ranges of 76-81 and 91-95 nm, respectively. The zeta potential of the synthesized SE-CS NPs was - 24.5 mV, while that of the CS NPs was 25 mV. SE-CS NPs showed a remarkable, in vitro, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities. Successfully, SE-CS NPs (50 mg/kg) reduced the oxidative stress marker (malondialdehyde), reduced inflammation, increased the levels of the antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase and glutathione), and assisted the healing of induced wounds. SE-CS NPs (50 mg/kg) can be recommended to treat induced wounds safely. SE was composed of a collection of several wound healing bioactive components [fatty acids, amino acids, minerals and vitamins) that were loaded on CS NPs., Conclusions: The nanostructure enabled bioactive SE components to pass through cell membranes and exhibit their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions, accelerating the healing process of wounds. We introduced, for the first time, a membrane composed of nanostructured self-polyether sulphone (PES) filled with graphene oxide (GO) applied to photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. This membrane was fabricated through the phase inversion method. A variety of characteristics analysis of GO and its composite with PES including FTIR, XRD, SEM, and optical properties was studied. Its morphology was completely modified from macro voids for bare PES into uniform layers with a random distribution of GO structure which facilitated the movement of electrons between these layers for hydrogen production. The composite membrane photocathode brought a distinct photocurrent generation (5.7 mA/cm 2 at 1.6 V vs. RHE). The optimized GO ratio in the membrane was investigated to be PG2 (0.008 wt.% GO). The conversion efficiencies of PEC were assessed for this membrane. Its incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) was calculated to be 14.4% at λ = 390 nm beside the applied bias photon-to-current conversion efficiency (ABPE) that was estimated to be 7.1% at -0.4 V vs. RHE. The stability of the PG2 membrane after six cycles was attributed to high thermal and mechanical stability and excellent ionic conductivity. The number of hydrogen moles was calculated quantitively to be 0.7 mmol h -1 cm -2 . Finally, we designed an effective cost membrane with high performance for hydrogen generation.

Chitosan has received broad consideration as an adsorbent for all pollutants because of its low cost and great adsorption potential. However, its shortcomings, including sensitivity to pH, poor thermal stability, and poor mechanical strength, limit its use. The functional groups of chitosan can be modified to enhance its performance by the grafting technique and Schiff base modification. The grafting process used acrylonitrile (Ch-g-PAN) as a monomer and potassium persulfate as an initiator. After that, the modification via preparation of the Schiff base reaction using salicylaldehyde (Ch-g-Sch I) and P -anisaldehyde (Ch-g-Sch II) was carried out. The synthesized copolymers were detailed and characterized through several spectroscopic and microscopic techniques including infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. In addition, Ch-g-Sch I and Ch-g-Sch II were applied in the removal of different metal ions such as Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , and Cr 3+ . The maximum adsorption capacity of Ch-g-Sch I for Cd 2+ was 183.7 mg g -1 in 24 h, while in the case of Ch-g-Sch II, the maximum adsorption capacity for Cd 2+ was improved to 322.9 mg g -1 for the same time. Moreover, adsorption thermodynamic analysis displays that the all ion adsorption process was not random and the pseudo-second-order model fitted with experimental results. The introduction of activated carbon/natural zeolite (AC/NZ) as an efficient and reliable nanoadsorbent for enhancing methylene blue (MB) dye adsorption. By calcining sugarcane waste at various temperatures between 500 and 900 °C, activated carbons (ACs) are formed. Both XRD and SEM were used for the characterization of the prepared adsorbents. Adsorption measurements for the removal of MB dye were made on the impact of pH, beginning MB concentration, and contact time. The maximum AC500/NZ adsorption capacity for MB dye at 25 °C, pH 7, and an AC500/NZ mass of 50 mg was found to be approximately 51 mg/g at an initial concentration of 30 ppm. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Temkin isotherm model describe the adsorption process. The Temkin model shows that the adsorption energy is 1.0 kcal/mol, indicating that the MB-to-AC500/NZ adsorption process occurs physically. Our Monte Carlo (MC) simulation studies supported our findings and showed that the Van der Waals dispersion force was responsible for the MB molecule's physical adsorption. Purpose: The deleterious effect of visceral adipose tissue accumulation is well known. However, the recent trend in liposuction is mal-directed toward easily accessible subcutaneous fat for the purpose of body shaping. The aim of the present study is to probe the metabolic effects of subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue lipectomy in ovariectomized obese rats as well as the role of adipokines in these changes., Methods: The study was conducted on young female rats randomized into two main groups according to the duration of the experiment, namely, 5-week and 10-week. Both groups were subdivided as follows: sham-operated, ovariectomized, and ovariectomized lipectomized rat groups. The rats underwent measurement of body weight (BW) and determination of body mass index (BMI). Fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, liver function, plasma malondialdehyde, leptin, and adiponectin were estimated, and the content of both blood and hepatic tissue of reduced glutathione was assessed. In addition, histological study of the liver, aorta, and perirenal fat of all rat groups was performed., Results: Ovariectomy-induced obesity is marked by a significant increase in BW and BMI. Following subcutaneous lipectomy, the rats exhibited significant weight gain accompanied by fasting hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, deterioration of synthetic function of the liver, and disturbed oxidant/antioxidant status. Histological examination revealed fatty infiltration of aortic and hepatic tissues., Conclusion: Despite the immediate positive effect of subcutaneous lipectomy for weight loss and/or body shaping, multiple delayed hazards follow the procedure, which should be carefully considered., (© 2022. Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is an extraordinarily common skin condition. The high prevalence of AV is linked to the exposure factors, as environmental pollutants and climatic factors, occupational, psychosocial, and lifestyle factors. The AhR plays a critical part in environmental toxic action. The AhR expression and imbalance in the IL-36 & 38 expression may have a role in inflammation and AV pathogenesis., Aims: To detect possible links between environmental, inflammatory, and anti-inflammatory factors in AV pathogenesis through measuring AhR, IL-36, and IL-38 mRNA gene expression levels., Patients and Methods: Total of 100 subjects (70 AV patients and 30 apparently healthy control subjects) were tested for AhR, IL-36γ, and IL-38 mRNA levels by quantitative real-time PCR., Results: The median levels of AhR and IL-36 mRNA gene expression were considerably greater, while that of IL-38 was essentially lower in AV than healthy subjects (p < 0.001, 0.021 and 0.002, respectively). The AhR and IL-36 mRNA gene expression levels increased, while IL-38 decreased significantly with higher grades of severity (p < 0.001, 0.001, and <0.001, respectively). ROC curve showed that AhR mRNA gene expression level had the best AUC for diagnosis of AV, with better sensitivity and specificity than IL-36 and IL-38., Conclusions: Higher levels of AhR, IL-36, and lower levels of IL-38 gene expression were significantly associated with AV patients and higher grades of severity. Background: YouTube is a valuable source of health-related educational material which can have a profound impact on people's behaviors and decisions. However, YouTube contains a wide variety of unverified content that may promote unhealthy behaviors and activities. We aim in this systematic review to provide insight into the published literature concerning the quality of health information and educational videos found on YouTube., Methods: We searched Google Scholar, Medline (through PubMed), EMBASE, Scopus, Direct Science, Web of Science, and ProQuest databases to find all papers on the analysis of medical and health-related content published in English up to August 2020. Based on eligibility criteria, 202 papers were included in our study. We reviewed every article and extracted relevant data such as the number of videos and assessors, the number and type of quality categories, and the recommendations made by the authors. The extracted data from the papers were aggregated using different methods to compile the results., Results: The total number of videos assessed in the selected articles is 22,300 (median = 94, interquartile range = 50.5-133). The videos were evaluated by one or multiple assessors (median = 2, interquartile range = 1-3). The video quality was assessed by scoring, categorization, or based on creators' bias. Researchers commonly employed scoring systems that are either standardized (e.g., GQS, DISCERN, and JAMA) or based upon the guidelines and recommendations of professional associations. Results from the aggregation of scoring or categorization data indicate that health-related content on YouTube is of average to below-average quality. The compiled results from bias-based classification show that only 32% of the videos appear neutral toward the health content. Furthermore, the majority of the studies confirmed either negative or no correlation between the quality and popularity of the assessed videos., Conclusions: YouTube is not a reliable source of medical and health-related information. YouTube's popularity-driven metrics such as the number of views and likes should not be considered quality indicators. YouTube should improve its ranking and recommender system to promote higher-quality content. Layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanomaterials have recently become immense research area as it is used widely in industries. So, it's chance of their release into natural environment and risk assessment to nontarget aquatic invertebrate increasing. So, the present study aimed to synthesize and confirm the crystalline formation of Co-Cd-Fe LDHs and Co-Cd-Fe/PbI 2 (LDH) and then to investigate the toxic impact of the two LDH on the adult freshwater snails (Biomphalaia alexandrina). Results showed that Co-Cd-Fe/PbI 2 LDH has more toxic effect to adult Biomphalaria than Co-Cd-Fe LDHs (LC 50 was 56.4 and 147.7 mg/L, 72 h of exposure, respectively). The effect of LC 25 (117.1 mg/L) of Co-Cd-Fe LDHs exposure on the embryo showed suppression of embryonic development and induced embryo malformation. Also, it showed alterations in the tegmental architectures of the mantle-foot region of B. alexandrina snails as declared in scanning electron micrograph. Also, exposure to this sublethal concentration caused abnormalities in hemocyte shapes and upregulated IL-2 level in soft tissue. In addition, it decreased levels of nonenzymatic reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), caspase-3 activity, and total protein content in significant manner. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity was not affected by LDH exposure. It caused histopathological damages in both glands of snails and also caused a genotoxic effect in their cells. In this paper, Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 -zeolite nanopowders are prepared by chemical precipitation utilizing the rusted iron waste and natural zeolite. In addition to the nanomorphologies; the chemical composition, structural parameters, and optical properties are examined using many techniques. The Fe 2 O 3 -zeolite photocatalyst showed smaller sizes and higher light absorption in visible light than Fe 2 O 3 . Both Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 -zeolite are used as photocatalysts for methylene blue (MB) photodegradation under solar light. The effects of the contact time, starting MB concentration, Fe 2 O 3 -zeolite dose, and pH value on photocatalytic performance are investigated. The full photocatalytic degradation of MB dye (10 mg/L) is achieved using 75 mg of Fe 2 O 3 -zeolite under visible light after 30 s, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the highest performance yet for Fe 2 O 3 -based photocatalysts. This photocatalyst has also shown remarkable stability and recyclability. The kinetics and mechanisms of the photocatalytic process are studied. Therefore, the current work can be applied industrially as a cost-effective method for eliminating the harmful MB dye from wastewater and recycling the rusted iron wires.

Green hematite nanoparticles were synthesized using pomegranate peel extract of different concentrations (2 g, 4 g, and 6 g) and in the presence of the peel residuals. The obtained products defined as PP/GNH (I), PP/GNH (II), and PP/GNH (III) referring to the hematite nanoparticles at different concentrations compositing with pomegranate peel residuals. The products were addressed as green adsorbents for methylene blue dye contaminants in water. They exhibit superior adsorption properties with theoretical q max of 666, 1111, and 909 mg/g for PP/GNH (I), PP/GNH (II), and PP/GNH (III), respectively. The equilibration times were attained after 480 min for the three products. The isotherm and kinetic studies indicate that the adsorption systems for the synthetic materials are of chemisorption type. The adsorption behaviors of these systems can be demonstrated according to Pseudo-second order as well as Elovich kinetic model. Furthermore, the adsorption results reflected a mono-layer uptake form which was more suitable for the Langmuir model than other investigated models. The products also showed high performances when it comes to remove the dyes investigated such as methylene blue Congo red, safranin, methyl orange, and crystal violet. Finally, green fabricated nano hematite/pomegranate peel composites are of high stability and can be reused for five cycles.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Corrosion-induced iron rust causes severe danger, pollution, and economic problems. In this work, nanopowders of Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite are synthesized for the first time using rusted iron waste and natural zeolite heulandite by chemical precipitation. The chemical composition, nanomorphologies, structural parameters, and optical behaviors are investigated using different techniques. The Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite nanocomposite showed smaller sizes and greater light absorption capability in visible light than Fe 2 O 3 nanopowder. The XRD pattern shows crystalline hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) with a rhombohedral structure. The crystallite sizes for the plane (104) of the Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite are 64.84 and 56.53 nm, respectively. The Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite have indirect bandgap values of 1.87 and 1.91 eV and direct bandgap values of 2.04 and 2.07 eV, respectively. Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite nanophotocatalysts are used for solar photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production. The Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite exhibits a PEC catalytic hydrogen production rate of 154.45 mmol/g.h @ 1 V in 0.9 M KOH solution, which is the highest value yet for Fe 2 O 3 -based photocatalysts. The photocurrent density of Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite is almost two times that of Fe 2 O 3 catalyst, and the IPCE (incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency) reached ~27.34%@307 nm and 1 V. The electrochemical surface area (ECSA) values for Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite photocatalysts were 7.414 and 21.236 m 2 /g, respectively. The rate of hydrogen production for Fe 2 O 3 /zeolite was 154.44 mmol h -1 /g. This nanophotocatalyst has a very low PEC corrosion rate of 7.6 pm/year; it can retain ~97% of its initial performance. Therefore, the present research can be applied industrially as a cost-effective technique to address two issues at once by producing solar hydrogen fuel and recycling the rusted iron wires.

Using microalgae to alleviate the adverse effects of aquaculture pollutants, including metals, has recently gained much attention. In this context, bioaccumulation, hematological indices, oxidative and antioxidant responses, and histopathological alterations were investigated in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fed with either a control diet or diets containing Nannochloropsis oculata (N. oculata) after exposure to mercuric chloride in order to evaluate the role of this microalgae in protecting against mercury-induced toxicity. Fish exposed to HgCl 2 at a dose of ¼ LC 50 (0.3 mg/L) (Hg group) for 7-21 days exhibited a significant increase in total mercury concentration with a bioaccumulation pattern of liver>gills>muscle, and a significant decrease in all blood indices except mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), monocyte counts, and neutrophil counts. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were significantly increased in the Hg group at all time points relative to the control. Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity was significantly increased at days 14 and 21, while catalase (CAT) and GPx activities increased and decreased, respectively, at day 7 compared to the control. Additionally, lysozyme activity and immunoglobulin M (IgM) were significantly decreased in the Hg-exposed group. Severe histopathological alterations were evident in the liver, kidneys, and gills. However, supplementation with N. oculata at a low (5%, 50 g/kg feed) or high (10%, 100 g/kg feed) dose stabilized all parameters and reduced the severity of the histopathological alterations with the high N. oculata diet showing more prominent effects. Polysulfanilic acid has a low efficiency for the photoelectrochemical (PEC) production of H 2 from water splitting due to high recombination rate of charge and low electrical conductivity. Therefore, polyaniline was doped with polysulfanilic acid to form a copolymer and a blend to enhance its PEC heterogeneous catalytic performance. This was achieved through the improvement of visible light absorption and charge carriers' separation property. Herein, nine polymer samples of polysulfanilic acid were synthesized by oxidative polymerization. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the synthesized polymeric materials were investigated. Interestingly, these polymer samples had multifunctional applications regarding their hydrogen generation efficiency. Photoelectrodes of different compositions from pure and blended polymers were prepared and used for the PEC solar hydrogen production from water. Different PEC parameters including the oxidant role, monochromatic illumination wavelength, and electrode reusability were optimized toward the efficient hydrogen generation. Moreover, the PEC performance was evaluated using key indicators such as photocurrent density, conversion efficiency, and the number of hydrogen moles. The number of hydrogen moles was quantitatively estimated to be 140.4, 160.2, and 300 μmol/h·g at -1 V for the polymer, copolymer, and polymer blend, respectively, in the presence of APS + FeCl 3 as an oxidant. Further, other samples of polymers showed antimicrobial properties against different species of bacteria. A new synthesized polyaniline/starch/hematite bio composite (PANI/S/Fe 2 O 3 BC) has been studied as an effective material for on-site water remediation. PANI/S/Fe 2 O 3 BC was developed by combining the techniques of co-precipitation and interfacial polymerization in the presence of aqueous starch solution in an acidic medium under ultrasonic irradiation. The nano-morphologies and structures of the designed PANI/S/Fe 2 O 3 BC were evaluated by various techniques relative to PANI and Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles. In single and multiple systems, PANI/S/Fe 2 O 3 BC was evaluated as a possible adsorbent for different heavy metals, including As 3+ , Zn 2+ , and Co 2+ , relative to PANI and Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles. In terms of pH value, operating temperature, initial heavy metal concentration, contact time, adsorbent dose and competitive ions in the solutions, the adsorption process was optimized. For 92% overall adsorption of Co 2+ and 100% overall adsorption of both As 3+ and Zn 2+ , the adsorption equilibrium was achieved within 60 and 120 min, respectively. In addition, adsorption thermodynamic analysis shows that the As 3+ ions adsorption process was not random and the pseudo-second-order fitted with experimental results. Moreover, PANI/S/Fe 2 O 3 BC was evaluated as an antibacterial agent against Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella typhimurium) and Gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus, Aureus Clinical isolate and Bacillus subtilis). Incorporating nanostructured metal and metal oxide in a polymer matrix is a strategic way to develop a novel candidate for water bioremediation. In this study, under microwave irradiation, a ZnO-Ag/polypyrrole (PPy) nanocomposite with a core/shell structure was prepared by interfacial polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of ZnO nanoparticles and AgNO 3 as an oxidant. The antimicrobial behavior of the ZnO-Ag core combined with the electrical properties of the conducting PPy shell created a special ZnO-Ag/PPy nanocomposite with inherent adsorption behavior and antimicrobial properties. More impressively, the as-prepared ZnO-Ag/PPy displayed enhanced adsorption of Cd 2+ and PO 4 3- ions in the mixed solution. At pH 8, it had overall removal efficiencies of 95% and 75% for Cd 2+ and PO 4 3- ions, respectively. The Freundlich adsorption model, rather than the Langmuir adsorption model, better fits the adsorption isotherm results. The adsorption kinetics also followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Additionally, the engineered nanocomposite demonstrated antifungal activity against different fungi, as well as remarkable antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The synergistic combination of crystallinity, coherence of the ZnO-Ag core in the PPy matrix, and the negative zeta potential all contribute to this nanocomposite's high efficiency. Our results have significant consequences in the wastewater bioremediation field using a simple operation process.

Purpose: to assess diffusion tensor imaging (DTI); an emerging technique for differentiation between pyogenic and tuberculous spondylitis., Patients and Methods: The study was carried out on 33 patients with infective spondylitis performing conventional MRI and DTI. The mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) of the affected vertebral body were calculated by two readers., Results: The MD of pyogenic spondylitis of both readers (1.48 ± 0.09 and 1.47 ± 0.08 × 10 -3  mm 2 /s) were significantly higher values (P = 0.001) than tuberculous spondylitis (1.11 ± 0.15 and 1.18 ± 0.08 × 10 -3  mm 2 /s). The FA of pyogenic spondylitis of both readers (0.18 ± 0.09 and 0.20 ± 0.08) were significantly lower values (P = 0.001) than tuberculous spondylitis (0.30 ± 0.05 and 0.32 ± 0.03). There was a strong inter-reader agreement between both readers using MD (K = 0.963) and FA (K = 0.858). The thresholds MD and FA used for differentiating pyogenic and tuberculous spondylitis of both readers were 1.37 and 1.33 × 10 -3  mm 2 /s and 0.21 and 0.25 with the area under the curve (AUC) of 0.927 and 0.831 respectively. Combined MD and FA revealed increased AUC to 0.97 and 0.98 of both readers respectively., Conclusion: DTI with its parameters can be considered a noninvasive beneficial quantitative method that can help in differentiation between pyogenic and tuberculous spondylitis., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier B.V.
