Seeking to demonstrate the recent uses of the enamel matrix derivative (EMD), the objective of this work is to develop a literature review of the use of biomaterial in soft tissues and in the treatment of peri-implantitis. The search for scientific articles was carried out at Pubmed, the selected literature was from 2010 to 2020, found with the following descriptors: “Emdogain And Soft Tissue” and “Emdogain And Peri-Implantitis”. Studies on bone regeneration treatment, bone graft, treatment of patients with systemic disease were excluded. The selected sample consisted of 17 articles, and the results found favor the use of EMD. In the healing of soft tissues around teeth and implants, the works report the good hypotheses in relation to cicatricial cellular events (angiogenesis, fibroplasia and reduction of inflammatory markers) and histological evaluations that EMD promotes when facing surgical wounds. In root coverage of different types of recessions, improvements were also seen with the use of EMD, but procedures based on connective tissue grafts still show superior results. In the treatment of peri-implantitis, EMD seems to present a good result as an adjuvant, but more studies need to be performed. The use of EMD is justified by the possibility of achieving periodontal regeneration in the treated sites and by its positive attributes in the healing process of various periodontal procedures in soft tissues, in the techniques of root covering and in the treatment of peri-implantitis. Buscando demostrar los usos recientes del derivado de la matriz del esmalte (EMD), el objetivo de este trabajo es desarrollar una revisión de la literatura sobre el uso del biomaterial en tejidos blandos y en el tratamiento de la periimplantitis. Se buscaron artículos científicos en Pubmed, la literatura seleccionada fue de 2010 a 2020, se encontró con los siguientes descriptores: “Emdogain And Soft Tissue” y “Emdogain And Peri-Implantitis”. Se excluyeron los estudios sobre el tratamiento de regeneración ósea, el injerto óseo y el tratamiento de pacientes con enfermedades sistémicas. La muestra seleccionada estuvo compuesta por 17 artículos, y los resultados encontrados favorecen el uso de EMD. En la cicatrización de tejidos blandos alrededor de dientes e implantes, los estudios informan las buenas hipótesis con respecto a los eventos de cicatrización celular (angiogénesis, fibroplasia y reducción de marcadores inflamatorios) y evaluaciones histológicas de que el EMD promueve la ganancia de espesor gingival. En el cubrimiento radicular de diferentes tipos de recesiones, también se observaron mejoras con el uso de EMD, pero los procedimientos basados en injertos de tejido conectivo siguen mostrando resultados superiores. En el tratamiento de la periimplantitis, el EMD parece presentar un buen resultado como adyuvante, sin embargo, es necesario realizar más estudios. El uso de EMD se justifica por la posibilidad de lograr una regeneración periodontal en los sitios tratados y por sus atribuciones positivas en el proceso de cicatrización de diversos procedimientos periodontales en tejidos blandos, en técnicas de cobertura radicular y en el tratamiento de periimplantitis. Os artigos científicos foram pesquisados no Pubmed, a literatura selecionada foi de 2010 a 2020, encontrada com os seguintes descritores: “Emdogain And Soft Tissue” e “Emdogain And Peri-Implantitis”. Foram excluídos trabalhos sobre tratamento de regeneração óssea, enxerto ósseo, tratamento de pacientes com doença sistêmica. A amostra selecionada consistiu em 17 artigos, e os resultados encontrados favorecem o uso do EMD. Na cicatrização dos tecidos moles ao redor de dentes e implantes, os trabalhos relatam as boas hipóteses em relação aos eventos celulares cicatriciais (angiogênese, fibroplasia e redução de marcadores inflamatórios) e avaliações histológicas que EMD promove ganho de espessura gengival. No recobrimento radicular de diferentes tipos de recessões, as melhorias também foram observadas com o uso do EMD, porém os procedimentos baseados em enxertos de tecido conjuntivo ainda apresentam resultados superiores. No tratamento da periimplantite o EMD parece apresentar um bom resultado como adjuvante, entretanto mais estudos precisam ser realizados. O uso do EMD se justifica pela possibilidade de atingir regeneração periodontal nos sítios tratados e por suas atribuições positivas no processo cicatricial de variados procedimentos periodontais em tecidos moles, nas técnicas de recobrimento radicular e no tratamento de periimplantites.

BACKGROUND: Endothelial dysfunction is one of the early stages of vascular diseases. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the endothelial dysfunction markers in patients with chronic gastritis associated with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. METHODS: By a cross sectional study, basic and clinical information of 120 participants (40 patients with positive H. pylori infection, 40 patients with negative H. pylori infection and 40 healthy people) were analyzed. Carotid intima media thickness and flow-mediated dilation levels were measured in all patients and controls. Soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were measured with Elisa for all subjects. IgG level was assessed in chronic gastritis patients. RESULTS: The flow-mediated dilation level in patients with positive H. pylori infection (0.17%±0.09) was significantly lower than those with negative H. pylori infection (0.21% ±0.10, P

INTRODUÇÃO: A oxigenação hiperbárica (OHB) tem por objetivo aumentar em pelo menos 10 vezes a pressão tecidual de oxigênio, diminuindo os efeitos deletérios da isquemia. O objetivo deste estudo é investigar o papel da oxigenação hiperbárica na expressão imuno-histoquímica da caspase 3 e do fator de crescimento endotelial vascular (VEGF) em retalhos randômicos em ratos. MÉTODO: Trinta e dois ratos Wistar machos foram divididos aleatoriamente em quatro grupos: grupo sham (GS), grupo N-acetilcisteína (GNAC), grupo OHB (GOHB) e grupo OHB + N-acetilcisteína (GHN). Um retalho de pele retangular (2 cm x 8 cm) foi dissecado a partir da camada muscular dorsal, preservando um pedículo cranial. Uma lâmina de polietileno foi colocada sobre a camada muscular e fixou-se o retalho no local original. No 8º dia, foram coletadas biópsias (2 cm x 1 cm) de espessura total das áreas proximal, média e cranial e de um local fora do retalho, que serviu como área de controle. RESULTADOS: A expressão de VEGF nas camadas da pele e nos vasos não apresentou diferenças significativas entre os grupos. As células apoptóticas estavam significativamente aumentadas na área central do retalho em todos os grupos. O maior aumento ocorreu nos grupos GS e GNAC. A OHB diminuiu significativamente o número de células caspase 3 positivas nas camadas da pele e nos vasos das três áreas. CONCLUSÕES: A OHB foi associada a expressão reduzida de apoptose. A expressão de VEGF em camadas da pele e vasos não demonstrou diferença significativa. Os resultados sugerem que a difusão do oxigênio através do espaço intersticial foi o fator determinante para os resultados mais favoráveis da OHB na diminuição da expressão de apoptose. BACKGROUND: Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) therapy aims to increase oxygen tissue pressure by at least 10 times and decrease the adverse effects of ischemia. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HBO on the immunohistochemical expressions of caspase 3 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in random flaps in rats. METHODS: Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: the sham group (GS), the N-acetylcysteine group (GNAC), the HBO group, and the HBO + N-acetylcysteine group. A rectangular skin flap (2 × 8 cm) was dissected from the dorsal muscle layer, and a cranial pedicle was preserved. A polyethylene film was placed on the muscle layer, and the flap was fixed in the original site. On the eighth day, biopsy samples (2 × 1 cm) of the entire thickness of the proximal, medial, and cranial areas as well as of the site outside the flap, which was used as a control, were collected. RESULTS: VEGF expression in the skin layers and vessels was not significantly different between the groups. The number of apoptotic cells was significantly increased in the area of the flap in all groups. The highest increase was noted in the GS and GNAC groups. HBO significantly reduced the number of caspase 3-positive cells in the skin layers and vessels of the 3 areas. CONCLUSIONS: HBO was associated with decreased apoptosis. VEGF expression in the skin layers and vessels did not differ significantly. The results suggest that oxygen diffusion through the interstitial space was the determining factor for the positive effect of HBO on the decrease in apoptosis.
