Abstract Background Understanding of the ratio of photosynthetic photon flux density (Q p ) to global solar radiation (R s ) (Q p /R s ) is crucial for applying R s to ecology-related studies. Previous studies reported Q p /R s and its variations based on measurements from a single observatory tower, instead of multi-site-based measurements over complex terrains. This may neglect spatial heterogeneity in the terrain, creating a gap in an understanding of how terrain affects Q p /R s and how this effect interacts with meteorological factors. Methods Here the Qingyuan Ker Towers (three towers in a valley with different terrains: T1, T2, and T3) were utilized to measure Q p and R s over mountainous forests of Northeast China. An airborne LiDAR system was used to generate a digital elevation model, and sky view factor of sectors (SVFs) divided from the field of view of tower’s pyranometer was calculated as a topographic factor to explain the variations of Q p /R s . Results The results identified significant differences in Q p /R s of the three towers at both daily and half-hour scales, with larger differences on clear days than on overcast days. Q p /R s was positively correlated with SVFs of T1 and T3, while this correlation was negative with that of T2. The effect of SVFs on Q p /R s interacted with clearness index, water vapor pressure and solar zenith angle. Random forest-based importance assessment demonstrated that explanation (R 2) on Q p /R s was improved when SVFs was included in the predictor variable set, indicating that incorporating terrain effects enhances the prediction accuracy of Q p /R s . The improvement in the R 2 values was more pronounced on clear days than on overcast days, suggesting that the effect of terrain on Q p /R s depended on sky conditions. Conclusions All findings suggested that Q p /R s is affected by terrain, and integrating terrain information into existing Q p /R s models is a feasible solution to improve Q p /R s estimates in mountainous areas.

Abstract Background The relationship between triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) index and mortality in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between TyG-BMI with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among elderly DM patients in the United States (US). Methods Patients aged over 60 years with DM from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007–2016) were included in this study. The study endpoints were all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and the morality data were extracted from the National Death Index (NDI) which records up to December 31, 2019. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to explore the association between TyG-BMI index with mortality. Restricted cubic spline was used to model nonlinear relationships. Results A total of 1363 elderly diabetic patients were included, and were categorized into four quartiles. The mean age was 70.0 ± 6.8 years, and 48.6% of them were female. Overall, there were 429 all-cause deaths and 123 cardiovascular deaths were recorded during a median follow-up of 77.3 months. Multivariate Cox regression analyses indicated that compared to the 1st quartile (used as the reference), the 3rd quartile demonstrated a significant association with all-cause mortality (model 2: HR = 0.64, 95% CI 0.46–0.89, P = 0.009; model 3: HR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.43–0.96, P = 0.030). Additionally, the 4th quartile was significantly associated with cardiovascular mortality (model 2: HR = 1.83, 95% CI 1.01–3.30, P = 0.047; model 3: HR = 2.45, 95% CI 1.07–5.57, P = 0.033). The restricted cubic spline revealed a U-shaped association between TyG-BMI index with all-cause mortality and a linear association with cardiovascular mortality, after adjustment for possible confounding factors. Conclusions A U-shaped association was observed between the TyG-BMI index with all-cause mortality and a linear association was observed between the TyG-BMI index with cardiovascular mortality in elderly patients with DM in the US population.

Abstract Aims We aimed to evaluate the effects of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) and the factors influencing mortality after RFCA in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and atrial flutter (AFL). Methods and results Fifty‐eight consecutive PH patients with AFL who underwent an electrophysiological study and RFCA between April 2013 and August 2021 were selected for this study. In the study population, pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with congenital heart disease (PAH‐CHD) was the most common type of PH (n = 34, 59%), followed by idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) (n = 19, 33%). Typical atrial flutter was the most common type of atrial flutter (n = 50, 86.2%). Sinus rhythm was restored in 53 (91.4%) patients during RFCA. After a mean follow‐up of 33.8 months, AFL recurred in a total of 22 patients. Nine of them underwent repeat RFCA, and the site of the repeat ablation was not exactly the same as the first. At a median follow‐up of 34.6 months after the last ablation, none of the patients who underwent repeat RFCA experienced AFL recurrence, and all of these patients survived. There were no procedure‐related complications during hospitalization or follow‐up. Univariate Cox regression analysis suggested that AFL recurrence after the last ablation was not associated with all‐cause mortality. NT‐proBNP (HR: 1.00024, 95% CI: 1.00008–1.00041, P = 0.004), pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) (HR: 1.048, 95% CI: 1.020–1.076, P = 0.001), and IPAH (vs. PAH‐CHD, HR: 7.720, 95% CI: 1.437–41.483, P = 0.017) were independent predictors of all‐cause mortality in PH patients with AFL after RFCA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis revealed that the area under the curve (AUC) of PASP for predicting all‐cause mortality was 0.708. There was no significant difference in the Kaplan–Meier curves for all‐cause mortality between patients with AFL recurrence after the last ablation and those without recurrence (P = 0.851). Patients with higher PASP (≥110 mmHg) and IPAH showed the lower survival rate in Kaplan–Meier curves. Conclusion Repeat ablation was safe and feasible in patients with recurrent AFL and can maintain sinus rhythm. AFL recurrence was not associated with all‐cause mortality, and patients with high PASP or IPAH were at higher risk for adverse outcomes.

Epidemiological evidence indicates an association between exposure to toxic metals and the occurrence of cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs). However, the impact of exposure to harmful metallic elements, such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg), on mortality in individuals with cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) remains uncertain. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed data from 4139 adults diagnosed with CMM from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2016. CMM was defined as the presence of at least two CMDs (hypertension, diabetes, stroke, and coronary artery disease). Over an average follow-up period of 9.0 years, 1379 deaths from all causes, 515 deaths related to cardiovascular disease (CVD), and 215 deaths attributable to cancer were recorded. After adjusting for potential covariates, serum Pb concentrations were not associated with all-cause, CVD, or cancer mortality. Participants exposed to Cd had an elevated risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 1.23; 95 % CI, 1.16–1.30), CVD-related mortality (HR, 1.23; 95 % CI, 1.12–1.35), and cancer-related mortality (HR, 1.29; 95 % CI, 1.13–1.47). Participants with serum Hg levels in the highest quantile had lower risks of all-cause (HR, 0.64; 95 % CI, 0.52–0.80) and CVD-related (HR, 0.62; 95 % CI, 0.44–0.88) mortality than did those in the lowest quantile. Stratified analyses revealed significant interactions between serum Cd concentrations and age for CVD-related mortality (P for interaction =0.011), indicating that CMM participants aged < 60 years who were exposed to Cd were at a greater risk of CVD-related mortality. A nonlinear relationship was observed between serum Cd concentrations and all-cause (P for nonlinear relationship = 0.012) and CVD-related (P for nonlinear relationship < 0.001) mortality. Minimizing Cd exposure in patients with CMM may help prevent premature death.

Abstract Background The Stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) is a novel marker reflecting the true acute hyperglycemia status and is associated with clinical adverse events. The relationship between SHR and mortality in patients with diabetes or prediabetes is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of the SHR for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with diabetes or prediabetes. Methods This study included 11,160 patients diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005–2018). The study endpoints were all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and morality data were extracted from the National Death Index (NDI) up to December 31, 2019. Patients were divided into SHR quartiles. Cox proportion hazards regression was applied to determine the prognostic value of SHR. Model 1 was not adjusted for any covariates. Model 2 was adjusted for age, sex, and race. Model 3 was adjusted for age, sex, race, BMI, smoking status, alcohol use, hypertension, CHD, CKD, anemia, and TG. Results During a mean follow-up of 84.9 months, a total of 1538 all-cause deaths and 410 cardiovascular deaths were recorded. Background: The tissue response viewer (TRV) is a multiparametric index that incorporates time, power, tissue pressure, impedance, and wall thickness data during radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) and is used to predict the transmurality of lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of the TRV in a porcine model. Methods: Twelve pigs underwent preablation high-density voltage and activation mapping of two atria, and both were repeated after linear RFCA. Intentional gaps were kept in the left atrium (LA) and were touched up in the right atrium (RA). Standard and high powers were, respectively, performed in the LA ablation. Six pigs were immediately sacrificed for pathological examination after the mapping and ablation procedure (acute study). Another six pigs were kept for 4 weeks before remapping and pathological examination (chronic study). Results: All animals completed the planned procedure. The TRV function showed a sensitivity of 97.1% and a specificity of 76.9% in the acute study, and a sensitivity of 95.9% and a specificity of 72.5% in the chronic study to predict the transmural lesion. All positive and negative predictive values were over 80%. In addition, the TRV achieved higher sensitivity (92.3% vs. 85.0%) and specificity (88.2% vs. 78.9%) to predict the transmural lesion in LA ablation with high power compared with standard ablation. Conclusions: This study presents the histopathological validation of TRV to predict transmural lesions. The use of TRV may guide a more individual ablation and a more precise touch-up of gaps for atrial arrhythmias.

Thermal exchange of underwater water mass caused by marine heat wave is a hot point of research recently. In particular, because the water temperature observation along hot water mass transportation is hard work. Acoustic tomography is an advanced method to measure water temperature variations via sound signal transmission with multi-station network sensing. The 5 kHz frequency acoustic tomography used for observing water temperature variations caused by ocean heat waves is interesting work. In this paper, the numerical simulation of hot water mass is completed first, then floatation and diffusion of hot water mass in a simulation are monitored by acoustic tomography. A new inversion optimization method is proposed to obtain hot water mass transportation variations at two-dimensional temperature vertical profile. The proposed inversion method adds a regularized mode matrix and the optimization method adds the model correlation matrix to improve the results quality. The accuracy of inversion optimization results is compared and discussed, where the mean temperature error is less than 0.4 °C. Sensing water temperature variation of marine heat waves is verified via acoustic signal transmission and improved inversion optimization method. The water dynamical process observation is an application of acoustic tomography, which can be further used observe underwater environmental characteristics.

Data on selenium (Se) transformation, specifically the mineralization or activation of Se bound by microorganisms in natural Se-enriched soil, is limited. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of microorganisms on Se availability of Se-enriched lateritic red soil and Se uptake by pak choi. Following the incubation of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia S1 and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi agent, the available Se content of soils increased from 35 to 66.69–117.04 μg/kg, corresponding to an increase of 90.50–234.40%. The Se bioconcentration and translocation factors in pak choi increased after adding the AM fungi agent and strain S1. The soil acid phosphatase activity, and pak choi root length, surface area, and diameter also increased. Abstract Background The KODEX-EPD system is a novel, dielectric three-dimensional mapping system. We aim to illustrate the feasibility, safety, and outcomes of ablation using the KODEX-EPD system. Methods A total of 272 patients with supraventricular arrhythmias were enrolled and underwent catheter ablation using the KODEX-EPD system from October 2020 to July 2021. The feasibility, safety, and ablation outcomes were analyzed. Results Of the enrolled patients, 15 (5.4%) had atrial tachycardia (AT), 88 (31.4%) had atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT), 141 (50.4%) had atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT), 34 (12.1%) had atrial fibrillation (AF), and 9 (3.2%) had atrial flutter (AFL). All AF patients included were first-do-pulmonary vein isolation (PVI); there were 26 paroxysmal AF and 8 persistent AF. All patients achieved immediate success of ablation. The mean follow-up duration was 11.8 ± 2.4 months. One patient (1.1%) in the AVRT subgroup and two patients (1.4%) in the AVNRT subgroup experienced recurrence. When considering a three-month blanking time, the estimated freedom of AF at one-year post-ablation with and without AADs was 75.7% and 70.4%, respectively. The Kaplan–Meier analysis showed no significant difference in the overall AF recurrence (log-rank; P = 0.931) or AAD-free AF recurrence (log-rank; P = 0.841) between RFCA and cryoablation. One patient had mild pulmonary embolism. None of the patients died or had a cerebrovascular event in the periprocedural period. Conclusions This retrospective, two-center study demonstrated that catheter ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias using the KODEX-EPD system is feasible, safe, and effective. Background: The vein of Marshall (VOM) ethanol infusion improves sinus rhythm maintenance in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Distal collateral circulation of VOM can be a challenge to effective ethanol infusion. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of ethanol infusion in VOM with distal collateral circulation. Methods: Patients with AF scheduled for catheter ablation and VOM ethanol infusion were consecutively enrolled. During the procedure, non-occluded coronary sinus angiography was first performed for VOM identification. After VOM identification, an over-the-wire angioplasty balloon was used for cannulation and occluded angiography of the VOM. Those with distal VOM collateral circulation were included in this study. A method of slower ethanol injection (2 mL over 5 min) plus additional balloon occlusion time for 3 min after each injection was used. Results: Of 162 patients scheduled for VOM ethanol infusion, apparent distal VOM collateral circulation was revealed in seven (4.3%) patients. Five patients had collateral circulation to the left atrium, one to the right superior vena cava, and one to the great cardiac vein. Two patients did not undergo further ethanol infusion because of our inadequate experience during the early stage of the project. Five patients had successful VOM ethanol infusion with manifest localized myocardium staining. Conclusions: Ethanol infusion in VOM with distal collateral circulation can be solved by slow injection of ethanol and enough balloon occlusion time between multiple injections.

AimsThe incidence of atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) is higher in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients than in the general population. AVNRT is reportedly associated with a larger coronary sinus (CS) ostium (CSo). However, the correlation between AVNRT and CSo size in PAH patients is poorly investigated. We aimed to investigate the impact of CSo size on AVNRT and identify its risk factors in PAH.Methods and ResultsOf 102 PAH patients with catheter ablation of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), twelve with a confirmed AVNRT diagnosis who underwent computed tomographic angiography were retrospectively enrolled as the study group. The control group (PAH without SVT, n = 24) was matched for sex and BMI at a 2:1 ratio. All baseline and imaging data were collected. Mean pulmonary artery pressure was not significantly different between the two groups (65.3 ± 16.8 vs. 64.5 ± 17.6 mmHg, P = 0.328). PAH patients with AVNRT were older (45.9 ± 14.8 vs. 32.1 ± 7.6 years, P = 0.025), had a larger right atrial volume (224.4 ± 129.6 vs. 165.3 ± 71.7 cm3, P = 0.044), larger CSo in the left anterior oblique (LAO) plane (18.6 ± 3.3 vs. 14.8 ± 4.0 mm, P = 0.011), and larger CSo surface area (2.08 ± 1.35 vs. 1.45 ± 0.73 cm2, P = 0.039) and were more likely to have a windsock-shape CS (75% vs. 16.7%, P = 0.001) than those without AVNRT. A linear correlation was shown between CSo diameter in the LAO-plane and the atrial fractionation of the ablation target for AVNRT (R2 = 0.622, P = 0.012).ConclusionAnatomical dilation of the CSo is a risk factor for AVNRT development in patients with PAH.

Background: Little is known about the differences among ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) ablated in different subregions of the aortic sinuses of Valsalva (ASVs). We aim to investigate the distribution, precordial electrocardiographic patterns, and bipolar electrogram characteristics of VAs ablated in different subregions of the ASVs.Methods: We divided the right ASV and the left ASV into a total of 6 subregions and studied 51 idiopathic VAs ablated first time successfully in the ASVs.Results: These 51 VAs were inhomogeneously distributed among the 6 subregions, which comprised the right-lateral ASV (1/51), the right-anterior ASV (11/51), the regions along the right (13/51) and left (9/51) sides of the ASV junction, the left-anterior ASV (5/51), and the left-lateral ASV (12/51). Fractionated potentials were dominant (39/51, 76%) among the 3 types of target electrograms. From the right-lateral ASV to the left-lateral ASV, the percentage of fractionated potentials gradually decreased from 100 to 59%. A precordial rebound notch in V3-V4 or V4-V5 had sensitivity of 90.9%, specificity of 85.0%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 97.1% to predict VAs ablated in the right-anterior ASV. A precordial rebound notch in V2-V3 had sensitivity of 50.0%, specificity of 94.9%, and NPV of 86.0% to predict VAs ablated in the left-lateral ASV.Conclusion: VA targets were mainly distributed in the anterior and the left-lateral ASVs. Fractionated potentials were common among target electrograms, especially in theright-anterolateral ASV. Precordial electrocardiographic rebound notch has high predictive accuracy in identifying different subregions of the ASVs as target ablation sites.

In order to reduce the impacts caused by large-scale renewable energy resources accessing the utility grid, the micro-energy grid system, as a natural extension of the microgrid in the energy internet era, is proposed and developed to provide a new solution for the optimal utilization of renewable energy resources. In this paper, a multi-energy integrated micro-energy system is proposed which contains wind, PV, bedrock energy storage, magnetic levitation electric refrigeration, solid oxide fuel cell, solar thermal collector, energy storage, and V2G technologies, and detailed models of the energy generation/conversion/storage devices are formulated. Besides this, the uncertainties of renewable energy resources and cold/heat/electricity loads are considered, and the optimal dispatch problem of the micro-energy system is established from day-ahead and real-time time scales based on a model predictive control method. The day-ahead optimal scheduling aims at economic optimization and guides real-time scheduling, and real-time scheduling utilizes rolling optimization and a feedback correction mechanism to effectively correct the deviation of renewable energy generations and loads at a real-time horizon, which improves the optimization control accuracy, follows the day-ahead dispatch plan, and ensures the economics of real-time scheduling at the same time.

Background: Ethanol infusion into the vein of Marshall (Et-VOM) is a novel therapeutic treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, few studies have focused on the difference between AF and non-AF patients (presented other types of arrhythmias) regarding the characteristics of the vein of Marshall (VOM). Objective: This study sought to investigate the incidence, morphology, and angiographic characteristics of the VOM. Methods: Coronary sinus (CS) angiography was performed in all patients. The baseline, angiographic characteristics and measurements of VOM dimensions were compared between the AF and non-AF group. Results: CS angiography was performed in 290 patients. The VOM detection rate was higher in the AF group than in the non-AF group (91.8% vs. 84.1%, p = 0.044). In the right anterior oblique (RAO) projection, AF patients had significant larger VOM ostium, CS ostium, and CS diameter at VOM ostium than non-AF patients (1.9 ± 0.9 vs. 1.7 ± 0.7 mm, p = 0.015; 12.8 ± 4.1 vs. 11.4 ± 3.7 mm, p = 0.016; 9.1 ± 3.1 vs. 8.2 ± 2.9 mm, p = 0.028, respectively). There was a slight linear correlation between the VOM ostium and the CS ostium diameter as well as left atrial volume (LAV). Conclusion: AF patients seem to have a higher incidence of the VOM, larger VOM ostium, CS ostium, and CS lumen in RAO view. Meanwhile, the VOM ostium may correlate with the CS ostium and LAV.

Accurate individual tree segmentation (ITS) is fundamental to forest management and to the studies of forest ecosystem. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Light Detection and Ranging (UAV-LiDAR) shows advantages for ITS and tree height estimation at stand and landscape scale. However, dense deciduous forests with tightly interlocked tree crowns challenge the performance for ITS. Available LiDAR points through tree crown and appropriate algorithm are expected to attack the problem. In this study, a new UAV-LiDAR dataset that fused leaf-off and leaf-on point cloud (FULD) was introduced to assess the synergetic benefits for ITS and tree height estimation by comparing different types of segmentation algorithms (i.e., watershed segmentation, point cloud segmentation and layer stacking segmentation) in the dense deciduous forests of Northeast China. Field validation was conducted in the four typical stands, including mixed broadleaved forest (MBF), Mongolian oak forest (MOF), mixed broadleaf-conifer forest (MBCF) and larch plantation forest (LPF). The results showed that the combination of FULD and the layer stacking segmentation (LSS) algorithm produced the highest accuracies across all forest types (F-score: 0.70 to 0.85). The FULD also showed a better performance on tree height estimation, with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.54 m at individual level. Compared with using the leaf-on dataset solely, the RMSE of tree height estimation was reduced by 0.22 to 0.27 m, and 12.3% more trees were correctly segmented by the FULD, which are mainly contributed by improved detection rate at nearly all DBH levels and by improved detection accuracy at low DBH levels. The improvements are attributed to abundant points from the bole to the treetop of FULD, as well as each layer point being included for segmentation by LSS algorithm. These findings provide useful insights to guide the application of FULD when more multi-temporal LiDAR data are available in future.

(1) Background: The panoramic view of a novel wide-band dielectric mapping system could show the individual anatomy. We aimed to compare the feasibility, efficacy and safety of the panoramic view guided approach for ablation of AVNRT with the conventional approach. (2) Methods: Ablation distributions in eight patients were retrospectively analyzed using the panoramic view. The para-slow-pathway (para-SP) region was divided into three regions, and the region that most frequently appeared with the appropriate junctional rhythm or eliminated the slow-pathway was defined as the adaptive slow-pathway (aSP) region. Twenty patients with AVNRT were then ablated in the aSP region under the panoramic view and compared with 40 patients using the conventional approach. (3) Results: Thirty ablation points were analyzed. The majority of effective points (95.0%) were located in the inferior and anterior portions of the para-SP region and defined as the aSP region. Baseline characteristics, fluoroscopic duration, and mean number of ablations were similar among the two groups. The panoramic view group had a significantly higher percentage of appropriate junctional rhythm (81.9% ± 26.0% vs. 55.7% ± 30.5%, p = 0.002) than the conventional group. (4) Conclusions: The use of the panoramic view for AVNRT ablation achieved similar clinical endpoints with higher ablation efficiency than the conventional approach.

Isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization behaviours of the blends of long chain branched polypropylene (LCB PP) and poly(ethylene-co-octene) (PEOc) with different weight ratios were studied under quiescent and shear flow using polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and rheological measurements. Experimental results showed that the crystallization of the LCB PP/PEOc blends were significantly accelerated due to the existence of the long chain branches (LCBs), the blends being able to rapidly crystallize even at 146 °C. The addition of PEOc that acts as a nucleating agent, could also increase the crystallization rate of LCB PP. However, the crystallization rate of LCB PP was reduced when the PEOc concentration was more than 60 wt %, showing a retarded crystallization growth mechanism. The morphology of the binary blend was changed from a sea-island structure to a co-continuous phase structure when the PEOc concentration was increased from 40 to 60 wt %. In comparison with linear isotactic iPP/PEOc, the interfacial tension between LCB PP and PEOc was increased. In addition, flow-induced crystallization of LCB PP/PEOc blends was observed. Possible crystallization mechanisms for both LCB PP/PEOc and iPP/PEOc blends were proposed.

The CO2 storage (Fs) is the cumulation or depletion in CO2 amount over a period in an ecosystem. Along with the eddy-covariance flux and wind-stream advection of CO2, it is a major term in the net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE) equation and even dominates in the equation under a stable atmospheric stratification while this equation is used for forest ecosystems over complex terrains. However, estimating the Fs remains challenging due to the frequent gusts and random fluctuations in boundary-layer flows that arouse tremendous difficulties in catching the true trend of CO2 changes for its storage estimation from eddy-covariance along with the atmospheric profile techniques. Using the measurements from Qingyuan Ker Towers equipped with NEE instrument systems separately covering mixed-broadleaf, oak, and larch forests towers in a mountain watershed, this study investigates the gust periods and CO2 fluctuation magnitudes while examining their impact on Fs estimation in relation to the terrain complexity index (TCI). The gusts induce CO2 fluctuations at numerous periods of 1 to 10 min over two hours. Diurnal, seasonal, and spatial differences (P < 0.01) in the maximum amplitude of CO2 fluctuations (Amax) ranges from 1.6 to 136.7 ppm and these difference in a period (Pmax) at the same significant level ranges 140 to 170 second. The Amax and Pmax are significantly correlated to the magnitude and random error of Fs with diurnal and seasonal differences. These correlations decrease as CO2 averaging time windows becomes longer. To minimize the uncertainties of Fs, a constant [CO2] averaging time window for the Fs estimates is not ideal. Dynamic averaging time windows and a decision-level fusion model can reduce the potential underestimation of Fs by 29%-33%, 37 being equivalent to 1.9%-4.3% underestimation of the NEE for temperate forests in complex terrains. The relative contribution of Fs to the 30-min NEE observations ranged from 17% to 82% depending on wind speed and TCI. The study's approach is notable as it incorporates TCI and utilizes three flux towers for replication, making the findings relevant to similar regions with a single tower. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
