A new line list for the A3Π - X3Σ- electronic transition of NH has been prepared using line positions from the literature and calculated line intensities. High level ab initio calculations were performed with the MOLPRO program to obtain the A - X transition dipole moment function. Potential energy curves and line strengths were calculated with Le Roy's RKR1 and LEVEL programs. Line intensities and Einstein A values were calculated with Western's PGOPHER program after converting the Hund's case (b) output of LEVEL to Hund's case (a) input needed for PGOPHER. The Herman- Wallis e ect is included in the Einstein A calculations of the bands for the levels with v' = 0 - 2 and v'' = 0 - 6. Spectra of pure isobutane were recorded at high temperature in the CH stretching region (2700-3100 cm-1) by high resolution Fourier transform spectroscopy. Isobutane absorption cross sections were determined for six temperatures from 273 K to 723 K. Integrated cross sections were compared with cross section data from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) database. Near global ozone isotopologue distributions have been determined from infrared solar occultation measurements of the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) satellite mission. ACE measurements are made with a high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer (ACE-FTS). Annual and seasonal latitudinal fractionation (δ value) distributions of the ozone isotopologues 16O16O18O, 16O18O16O and 16O17O16O were obtained. Asymmetric ozone (16O16O18O) shows higher fractionation compared to symmetric ozone (16O18O16O). The maximum ozone fractionation occurs in the tropical stratosphere as expected from the contribution of photolysis to the enrichment of heavy isotopologues. An enhancement of the heavy ozone isotopologues is also seen in the upper stratosphere of the Antarctic polar vortex. A new version of ACE-FTS routine data product (4.0) provides near global VMR altitude profile of low altitude CO2 on a 1 km grid from 5-18 km. An initial evaluation of these data has been carried out for the years 2004-2017 and for the month May in the 55°-70°S latitude range. The ACE-FTS data has been compared with ground-based measurements at Macquarie Island, the South Pole, the CarbonTracker 2017 model and G. Toon's empirical model. Trends agree, but ACE-FTS data has a low bias at 5.5 and 6.5 km in altitude. The Montreal Protocol banned the production of major ozone depleting substances such as chloro uorocarbons (CFCs) to protect the Earth's ozone layer. These halogenated compounds are inert in the troposphere and ultimately converted to HCl in the upper atmosphere. Therefore, by measuring stratospheric HCl concentrations, the effectiveness of the Montreal Protocol can be evaluated. After banning the production of CFCs, the increased production and emissions of CFC-replacement hydroflourocarbons (HFCs) has caused a dramatic increase in their atmospheric abundances. Although these HFCs do not contribute directly to the depletion of the ozone layer because they contain no chlorine, they are powerful greenhouse gases with large global warming potentials. In January 2019, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol came into force to phase out long-lived HFCs. The two most abundant HFCs in the atmosphere, HFC-134a (CF3CH2F) and HFC-23 (CHF3), are measured from orbit by ACE-FTS. These measurements will be useful for monitoring the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. A trend analysis of the ACE-FTS near-global measurements confirms the rapid increase in HFC-134a (4.9+/-0:1 ppt per year) and HFC-23 (0.75+/-0:02 ppt per year) volume mixing ratios (VMRs). A trend analysis has been carried out for HCl volume mixing ratio profiles provided by ACE-FTS as well; and the upper stratospheric HCl VMR time series of ACE-FTS shows a linear trend of -4.8+/-0.2%/decade for 2004-2017, highlighting the continuing success of the Montreal Protocol.

Social inequality has become of great importance nowadays, and it is in metropolitan areas where it appears to be more intense. Thus, inequality becomes unavoidable when rethinking the contemporary cities. To get a grasp of this phenomenon, for the first time in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, a common look between urban morphology and social cohesion is made. The goal is to describe the socio-morphologic structure of the metropolitan territory, which is the result of combining both categorizations and maps of the existing sociological and morphological aspects. For such purpose, a two-stage methodology has been used. The first stage develops the quantitative and qualitative criteria to overlap the two existing maps, and stablishes the areas that will be considered the new socio-morphologic fabrics. The second one applies the areal interpolation method to assign this socioeconomic and/or demographic information to these new fabrics. The result of this combination is a categorization of twenty-one types of fabrics that describes the socio-morphological metropolitan reality. This new categorization sheds light on a tight relationship between urban shape and social cohesion, both conditioning each other. Moreover, the new map shows socio-morphological similarities between distant areas and announces common urban strategies to achieve a larger urban equity. The interest of having this new approach increases when thinking in the new investigation lines that will be derived from there. One of them would be the evolutionary reconstruction, which will allow visualizing processes and ease the understanding of certain phenomena to foresee urban blight.

This analysis brings a range of theoretical perspectives on the politics of the communications policy-making process to bear on US Congressional efforts to protect children from internet pornography. The examination of the Congressional information gathering hearings during the formulation of the Communications Decency Act, Child Online Protection Act and Children's internet Protection Act shows an excess reliance on anecdotal evidence and a lack of social scientific research in informing Congressional inquiries. The authors here argue that such incidental involvement of academic scholarship could be explained through the lenses of `symbolic politics' and `class power', which have important implications for communication scholars who wish to be more closely involved in the communication policy-making process during future debates.

Castration or treatment with exogenous follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) both increase the turnover of 3H-norepinephrine in rat brain. The effect of castration is greatest in the hypothalamus and midbrain, and is probably mediated by endogenous FSH. The action of FSH is independent of the gonads, and is not shared by luteinizing hormone. (Endocrinology 84: 1489, 1969)

Melatonin biosynthesis, discussing regulation by light and sympathetic nerves, daily pineal rhythms, estrous rhythms and ovarian hormones

MELATONIN (5-methoxy N-acetyltryptamine) is synthesized in the pineal glands of mammals through the action of the enzyme hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT) (refs. 1 and 2). Because the activity of this enzyme varies diurnally among rats kept in cyclic lighting conditions, it has been suggested that melatonin secretion follows a similar rhythmic pattern3. Melatonin has been identified in urine and in peripheral nerve4. Neither the kidney nor nervous tissue contains measurable HIOMT activity, however, and this has been taken as evidence that the indole is secreted from the pineal. It has not yet been possible to demonstrate melatonin in blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); this inability may result from the absence of melatonin in body fluids, a very rapid rate of inactivation once the indole leaves the pineal, or the lack of sensitive techniques for assaying melatonin. For this reason, it is not known whether melatonin is normally secreted into the blood or the CSF.

The rate at which (3)H-norepinephrine disappears from rat braint increases after gonadectomy; the effect is observed 6 days after the operation and 24 hours after introduiction of the labeled mnaterial; it is not reprodluced by hypophysectomy. The content of endogenouis brain norepinephrinie does not decline after removal of the ovaries or testes; thus synlthesis of the catecholamine is probably increased by these procedures.

When hamsters are blinded or are exposed to continuous darkness for 28 days, their testes atrophy and the activity of the melatonin-forming enzyme in their pineals doubles. (Endocrinology 82: 1245, 1968)

The intraperitoneal administration of melatonin to rats caused an increase in brain serotonin concentration, especially in the midbrain. This effect could be demonstrated within 20 minutes of melatonin administration and was not associated with changes in norepinephrine concentration.
