Abstract

In this paper, we present a new receiver design, which significantly improves performance in the Internet of Things networks such as LoRa, i.e., having a chirp spread spectrum modulation. The proposed receiver is able to demodulate multiple users simultaneously transmitted over the same frequency channel with the same spreading factor. From a non-orthogonal multiple access point of view, it is based on the power domain and uses serial interference cancellation. Simulation results show that the receiver allows a significant increase in the number of connected devices in the network.

Abstract

Dynorphin is a neuropeptide involved in pain, addiction and mood regulation. It exerts its activity by binding to the kappa opioid receptor (KOP) which belongs to the large family of G-protein coupled receptors. The dynorphin peptide was discovered in 1975, while its receptor was cloned in 1993. This review will describe: a) the activities and physiological functions of dynorphin and its receptor, b) early structure-activity relationship studies performed before cloning of the receptor (mostly pharmacological and biophysical studies of peptide analogues), c) structure-activity relationship studies performed after cloning of the receptor via receptor mutagenesis and the development of recombinant receptor expression systems, d) structural biology of the opiate receptors culminating in X-ray structures of the four opioid receptors in their inactive state and structures of MOP and KOP receptors in their active state. X-ray and EM structures are combined with NMR data, which gives complementary insight into receptor and peptide dynamics. Molecular modelling greatly benefited from the availability of atomic resolution 3D structures of receptor-ligand complexes and an example of the strategy used to model a dynorphin-KOP receptor complex using NMR data will be described. 32. A Successive Interference Cancellation-Based Receiver for Secondary Surveillance Radar

Abstract

Secondary surveillance radar communications, which purpose is to acquire aircrafts critical information, are on the brink of spectrum saturation. This is the result of dense traffic and different waveforms modulation schemes, used in Modes A/C and Mode S communication layers, which share the same unscheduled propagation bandwidth. This leads to a significant rise of packet collision probability. In this context, we propose an original single-channel receiver able to process the simultaneous reception of several Mode A/C and S packets. The decoding strategy relies on the successive interference cancellation principle, comprising original detection, decoding, and reconstruction processes. The relevance of our proposition is validated by numerical simulation and confirmed through field experiments on automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast signals reception.

International audience; The world population is growing, and it is expected that in 2050 there will be 9.7 billion inhabitants on the Earth. According to FAO (United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization) we need to increase the productivity of agriculture by between 50% and 70% to be able to feed the world population at that time. Other researchers think that reducing the wastage of food may be enough to handle the 2050 population.Several factors must be considered to ensure that humanity is able to feed the world's population in 2050 and beyond:Less arable land: As cities are growing, the space available for agriculture is shrinking- Climate change: Dramatic impacts on agribusiness- Role of agribusiness on GHG emissions- Planetary boundaries and the role of agribusiness- Availability of freshwater- Soil degradationThe seasonal school presents and discusses the major problems that agribusiness is facing and the different technologies that can be applied to solve and improve such issues. Specific case studies are presented along with the technological solutions that have been applied to solve or minimize the impact. Agribusiness covers different topics such as arable farming, dairy farming, fruits, vegetables, meat, etc. Each of these domains has different needs that can be addressed through smart agriculture technologies such as circuits and systems. Also, these domains affect the sustainability of the planet as they impact at least 4 out of the 9 planetary boundaries.

Abstract

International audience; Driven by the huge demand to explore natural resources, conducting ocean research, and warning from natural disasters, underwater acoustic communications have become a fast-growing field in the last decades. Due to the underwater acoustic channel (UWAC) characteristics, such as multipath effect, severe path loss, high spread and shift Doppler, and long delay spread, communication, and localization become challenging tasks. This paper proposes a novel technique based on chirp spread spectrum (CSS) modulation to communicate and localize underwater acoustic channels. This technique uses differential encoding, making it more resilient to Doppler shift. It uses the orthogonality of chirps to generate the payload, which makes it more resilient to inter-symbol interference (ISI). Moreover, channel estimation and equalization processes are introduced to demodulate the signal, and Doppler estimation and compensation processes are added to minimize the Doppler spread effect. Finally, the synchronization process is introduced to fix the start time in communication and also used to calculate the time difference of arrival (TDOA) between receivers for the localization.

Abstract

International audience; Known as “ghost net” lost, abandoned, or discarded fishing net in the ocean has received increasing international attention in the past decades. This phenomenon has a significant impact on the ocean ecosystem as well as on the fishing presence. On the one hand, ghost nets can produce economic losses to fishers when their profits get lost. On the other hand, lost nets are among the major contributors to ocean pollution. Their existence puts the lives of marine animals in danger. In this context, the FIND project aims to localize the fishing nets underwater using an acoustic communication system to find the nets when they get lost and avoid the creation of waste in the ocean. In this paper, we propose to present the underwater connected object of localization that has been developed and to focus our attention on the localization algorithm.
