Abstract

In this paper, we describe holomorphic quantizations of the cotangent bundle of a symmetric space of compact type $T^*(U/K)\cong U_\mathbb{C}/K_\mathbb{C}$, along Mabuchi rays of $U$-invariant K\"ahler structures. At infinite geodesic time, the K\"ahler polarizations converge to a mixed polarization $\mathcal{P}_\infty$. We show how a generalized coherent state transform relates the quantizations along the Mabuchi geodesics such that holomorphic sections converge, as geodesic time goes to infinity, to distributional $\mathcal{P}_\infty$-polarized sections. Unlike in the case of $T^*U$, the gCST mapping from the Hilbert space of vertically polarized sections are not asymptotically unitary due to the appearance of representation dependent factors associated to the isotypical decomposition for the $U$-action. In agreement with the general program outlined in [Bai+23], we also describe how the quantization in the limit polarization $\mathcal{P}_\infty$ is given by the direct sum of the quantizations for all the symplectic reductions relative to the invariant torus action associated to the Hamiltonian action of $U$., Comment: 36 pages

6. A Multipurpose Platform for Ambient Assisted Living (ActiveAdvice): Usability Study

Abstract

BackgroundAging of the global population is slowly paving the way for new markets for care products and services. The desire of older people to maintain their independence while remaining at home is boosting the development of ambient assisted living (AAL) solutions. Lack of user awareness of AAL solutions paired with an insufficient use of user-centered and participatory design approaches in the development of these products has hindered the uptake of these solutions by end users. ObjectiveThis study aims to describe the usability and users’ experiences within a novel platform, ActiveAdvice, aimed at offering advice and a holistic market overview of AAL products and services. MethodsUsability tests were performed on the developed platform among identified prospective end users, with 32 older adults and informal carers from 4 European countries being part of the user tests. The usability and appeal of the web interface design, information flow, and information architecture were analyzed by collecting both objective and subjective measures. These would include pretest and posttest surveys, along with a series of think-aloud tasks to be performed within the platform. ResultsThe outcomes suggest that the ActiveAdvice platform’s objectives and functionalities are mostly aligned with the needs and expectations of end users, who demonstrated interest in using it, stressing its purpose along with its simple and intuitive interaction. Task completion rates were high, and participants had good satisfaction rates when navigating the platform. However, the tests still advocate for an improved design at some points and better disclosure of information. ConclusionsOur findings shed light on a few peculiarities of interface design, information architecture, user needs, and preferred functionalities, which should be applied to future developments of similar platforms with related services. The AAL field could benefit from tools supporting the dissemination of available AAL solutions and how they can improve one's quality of life. These tools may benefit not only older adults but also caregivers, business owners, and governmental employees.

Abstract

The criticism generated around the short short story has shown that this literary text category is paradigmatic of contemporary human being’s way of being and thinking. Its brief, quick, suggestive and hybrid nature allows it to absorb other speeches from other areas, as well as to enter into dialogue with them. Concurrently, its dissemination through the Internet in recent years and through different circuits proves that it is on the Internet that this kind of fiction finds the ideal habitat to develop its potential. Internet publication also contributes to its current popularity. From this approach, it is very important to address this discourse on the premise that without being born in the technological world as we conceive it today, the short short story has taken advantage of the features of the virtual sphere to spread and become a highly democratized phenomenon, especially from the perspective of their creators.

Abstract

For each left-invariant semi-Riemannian metric $g$ on a Lie group $G$, we introduce the class of bi-Lipschitz Riemannian Clairaut metrics, whose completeness implies the completeness of $g$. When the adjoint representation of $G$ satisfies an at most linear growth bound, then all the Clairaut metrics are complete for any $g$. We prove that this bound is satisfied by compact and 2-step nilpotent groups, as well as by semidirect products $K \ltimes_\rho \mathbb{R}^n$ , where $K$ is the direct product of a compact and an abelian Lie group and $\rho(K)$ is pre-compact; they include all the known examples of Lie groups with all left-invariant metrics complete. Abstract

The Jungle Game is used in population dynamics to describe cyclic competition among species that interact via a food chain. The dynamics of the Jungle Game supports a heteroclinic network whose cycles represent coexisting species. The stability of all heteroclinic cycles in the network for the Jungle Game with four species determines that only three species coexist in the long-run, interacting under cyclic dominance as a Rock-Paper-Scissors Game. This is in stark contrast with other interactions involving four species, such as cyclic interaction and intraguild predation. We use the Jungle Game with four species to determine the success of a fourth species invading a population of Rock-Paper-Scissors players.

Abstract

The research is based on a literature review focused on early supplier involvement in new product development processes while working towards Lean production, especially for the automotive industry, where all actors must be fast and accurate. For practitioners, early supplier involvement is a topic that deserves serious attention since it impacts on decentralisation, promoting gains in quality, quantity, and execution time, as well as cost reduction and/or the acquisition of technical knowledge in developing products and production processes. The authors first introduce the key concepts, issues, and theoretical foundations concerning early supplier involvement challenges and new product development within organisations that affect their core processes and outsourcing strategies when seeking collaboration to develop more sophisticated technologies that a new product requires. The authors critically explore these issues, especially concerning earlier supplier involvement and its connection to the Lean philosophy, pursuing process tunning, considering production quantity, quality, and time, as well as avoiding penalising interruption within the automotive industry. The study provides the first critical review of potential challenges for a successful early supply involvement and, consequently, a successful new product development process decentralisation and the acquisition of technical knowledge in developing products and production processes needed to satisfy customers.

Abstract

BACKGROUND. Clinical trials have suggested antitumor activity from PARP inhibition beyond homologous recombination deficiency (HRD). RNASEH2B loss is unrelated to HRD and preclinically sensitizes to PARP inhibition. The current study reports on RNASEH2B protein loss in advanced prostate cancer and its association with RB1 protein loss, clinical outcome, and clonal dynamics during treatment with PARP inhibition in a prospective clinical trial. METHODS. Whole tumor biopsies from multiple cohorts of patients with advanced prostate cancer were interrogated using whole-exome sequencing (WES), RNA-Seq (bulk and single nucleus), and IHC for RNASEH2B and RB1. Biopsies from patients treated with olaparib in the TOPARP-A and TOPARP-B clinical trials were used to evaluate RNASEH2B clonal selection during olaparib treatment. RESULTS. Shallow codeletion of RNASEH2B and adjacent RB1--colocated at chromosome 13q14--was common, deep codeletion infrequent, and gene loss associated with lower mRNA expression. In castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) biopsies, RNASEH2B and RB1 mRNA expression correlated, but single nucleus RNA-Seq indicated discordant loss of expression. IHC studies showed that loss of the 2 proteins often occurred independently, arguably due to stochastic second allele loss. Pre- and posttreatment metastatic CRPC (mCRPC) biopsy studies from BRCA1/2 WT tumors, treated on the TOPARP phase II trial, indicated that olaparib eradicated RNASEH2B-loss tumor subclones. CONCLUSION. PARP inhibition may benefit men suffering from mCRPC by eradicating tumor subclones with RNASEH2B loss. TRIAL REGISTRATION. Clinicaltrials.gov NCT01682772. FUNDING. Abstract

The burden of senescent hepatocytes correlates with the severity of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), but the mechanisms driving senescence and how it exacerbates MASLD are poorly understood. Hepatocytes experience lipotoxicity and become senescent when Smoothened (Smo) is deleted to disrupt Hedgehog signaling. We aimed to determine whether the secretomes of Smo-deficient hepatocytes perpetuate senescence to drive MASLD progression. RNA-Seq analysis of liver samples from human and murine cohorts with MASLD confirmed that hepatocyte populations in MASLD livers were depleted of Smo + cells and enriched with senescent cells. When fed a choline-deficient, amino acid-restricted high-fat diet (CDA-HFD) to induce MASLD, Smo--mice had lower antioxidant markers and developed worse DNA damage, senescence, steatohepatitis, and fibrosis than did Smo + mice. Sera and hepatocyte-conditioned medium from Smo--mice were depleted of thymidine phosphorylase (TP), a protein that maintains mitochondrial fitness. Treating Smo-- hepatocytes with TP reduced senescence and lipotoxicity, whereas inhibiting TP in Smo + hepatocytes had the opposite effect and exacerbated hepatocyte senescence, steatohepatitis, and fibrosis in CDA-HFD-fed mice.
