No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2022-01-01 The availability of chill hours influences the break dormancy, sprouting and production of temperate fruit trees in different regions. During the winter, the chilling requirements for growing peaches in subtropical locations are restricted, and certain chemicals are required to overcome dormancy and induce budburst. As a result, further information concerning the use of these compounds on stimulating sprouting in peach trees is required. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of hydrogen cyanamide, nitrogen fertilizer, and calcium nitrate to trigger budburst in the 'Douradão' peach orchard, which is in the subtropical area of São Paulo state, Brazil. The following tree chemicals were tested: 0.6 % hydrogen cyanamide, 2.5 % nitrogen fertilizer with 4 % calcium nitrate, 4 % calcium nitrate, and control. The hydrogen cyanamide accelerated, predicted, and focused blooming on plants, along with improving fruit set and output. Furthermore, combining nitrogen fertilizer with calcium nitrate accelerated budburst, which boosted flowering, output per tree, and yield. The spraying of the peach plants with just calcium nitrate produced results like those obtained in the control. The results allow for the use of hydrogen cyanamide or nitrogen fertilizer + calcium nitrate as an option for triggering budburst in Douradão cultivar peach trees under subtropical circumstances, depending on the orchards system management used. Nestas condições, é necessária a utilização de produtos químicos que estimulem a brotação das plantas. Embora existam diversos produtos com potencial de utilização, ainda há poucos estudos que demonstrem sua eficiência na cultura do pessegueiro. Além disto, os mecanismos de ação destes compostos no metabolismo das plantas ainda não foram devidamente esclarecidos. Diante disto, objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar o desempenho agronômico de pessegueiros submetidos à aplicação de indutores de brotação, bem como o efeito dos produtos no conteúdo de compostos nitrogenados, nas gemas das plantas, em Botucatu – São Paulo. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por 3 indutores de brotação: Cianamida Hidrogenada (CH) (0,6%); Fertilizante Foliar Nitrogenado (2,5%) + Nitrato de Cálcio (4%) (FFN + NC); Nitrato de Cálcio (NC) (4%) e a testemunha (água). Foram avaliados os cultivares de pessegueiro Douradão, durante dois ciclos produtivos (2017 e 2018), e BRS Kampai, durante um ciclo produtivo (2017). Avaliaram-se as seguintes variáveis: conteúdo de compostos nitrogenados nas gemas; fenologia da floração, porcentagem de florescimento, porcentagem de brotação, frutificação efetiva, número de frutos, produção, produtividade e a eficiência produtiva das plantas; massa fresca, diâmetro, comprimento, formato, teor de sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, pH, compostos fenólicos totais, flavonoides totais e a atividade antioxidante dos frutos. Em relação ao cultivar Douradão, a aplicação da CH (0,6%) aumenta, antecipa e concentra a florada das plantas. Além disto, o produto incrementa a frutificação efetiva e a produção. O FFN + NC e a CH promovem incrementos no conteúdo de polifenóis e da atividade antioxidante dos frutos, atributos de qualidade interessante ao consumo. A aplicação da CH promove aumento dos níveis de espermidina nas gemas vegetativas e floríferas das plantas do cultivar BRS Kampai, o que refletiu no aumento da brotação e do florescimento nos ramos das plantas. Entretanto, o tratamento com CH apresentou produção (kg planta-1 ) semelhante ao FFN + NC. A utilização de NC (4%) como indutor de brotação não promove aumento do florescimento e da produção de frutos dos dois cultivares de pessegueiro avaliados, em Botucatu – SP. The low occurrence of cold during the winter harm the development of peach trees, providing to decrease in the plant yield. In these conditions, some compounds are necessary, as they induce sprouting on the plant branches. Many products can be used to induced sprout, however, there are few studies that showed its efficiency in peach trees. Furthermore, the action of this compounds in the plant’s metabolism are unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the agronomic performance of peach cultivars induced to sprouting, and the effect to the compounds on the nitrogen compounds production on vegetative and reproductive buds of the plants, in Botucatu, state of São Paulo. In this study, we used 0.6% hydrogen cyanamide (HC); 2.5% foliar nitrogen fertilizer + 4% calcium nitrate (FNF + CN); 4% calcium nitrate (CN); and control. Were evaluated the peach cultivars Douradão, during two evaluation years (2017 and 2018), and BRS Kampai, during one evaluation year (2017). Furthermore, the following variables were evaluated: nitrogen compounds on vegetative and reproductive buds; flowering phenology; percentage of flowering, percentage of bud emergence, percentage of fruit fixation, number of fruits, production and efficiency per plant and yield; fresh weight, diameter, length, fruit shape, soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH, sugar content, total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids and the antioxidant activity of the fruits. For the Douradão cultivar, results showed that 0,6% HC increased, anticipated and concentrated the flowering of the plants; besides enhancing fruit set and production. The HC and FNF + CN increased in the contents of phenolic compounds in fruits and, consequently, their antioxidant activity, which are interesting attributes for fresh market consumption. The application of HC increased the levels of spermidine on vegetative and reproductive buds in the BRS Kampai cultivar. These results reflected in the increased on sprout and flowering percentage in the branches of the peach trees. However, the plants that received HC treatment showed production (kg tree-1 ) similar that the FNF + CN treatment. The CN treatment don’t promote increased on flowering percentage and production of fruits on both peach trees cultivars analyzed, in Botucatu, state of São Paulo. 140246/2017-7

Nonetheless, a great part of the production is lost, mainly for insect and disease incidences. Thus, cover developing banana bunches is a promising physical protection method that will improve the visual quality of the fruits, especially the rapidly growing consumer demand for healthy fruits. In fact, bags serve as protective barrier, allowing the production of free fruit damage; consequently, lowering production costs by cutting crop losses, as well as avoiding chemical materials. There is a wide variety of bag types and colours, but also, there is a scarce literature on their efficiency. This study hence aimed to evaluate the influence of coloured polyethylene bags on yield, seasonality and plant health of the 'BRS Conquista' bananas in subtropical high-altitude growing conditions. Treatments therefore consisted of using white, black, red and blue polyethylene bags, besides control (uncovered). Then, bags were randomly distributed in five blocks, four plants per plot. After bunch harvest, the following evaluation were proceeded: agronomic yield, the interval between bunches cover and harvest, injuries caused by thrips and the incidence of anthracnose. Results indicated that banana bunch coverings did not interfere in bunch yield. Nevertheless, white and black bags reduced the interval between bunch covers and harvest, that is, 114 and 115 days, respectively. Furthermore, white and red bags reduced the damage caused by thrips in fruits; while white, red and blue bags decreased the anthracnose incidence. This study therefore recommends the use of white polyethylene bags to cover banana bunches of the cultivar BRS Conquista, since this bag colour showed highly efficiency in controlling thrips and anthracnose incidence, besides reducing the interval between bunch cover and harvest. The “FHIA 18” banana is a tetraploid hybrid of “Prata Anã” (Silver subgroup), which presents resistance to “Black Sigatoka” and “Mal-do-Panamá”, proving to be a promising material for the substitution of type Silver, in commercial areas with the incidence of these diseases. Due to this, the present work had as objective to evaluate productive characteristics of the second cycle of the plant, in the municipality of Botucatu-SP. The following production variables were evaluated: mass of the leaves (kg), mass of the rachis (kg), mass of the bunch (kg), number of fruits per bunch (kg), average fruit mass bunch and productivity; in the second leave the mass, number, length and diameter of the fruits were evaluated. The descriptive statistics method was used to evaluate the characteristics of the hybrid, using the means and standard deviation calculations. The results showed that the 'FHIA 18' hybrid showed good productive performance in the Botucatu-SP soil conditions, with a high number of fruits per cluster (116 fruits) and average productivity of 19, 75 t ha-1, a value close to productive yield current average in the state of São Paulo. El banano "FHIA 18" es un híbrido tetraploide de "Prata Anã" (subgrupo de plata), que muestra resistencia a "Sigatoca-negra" y "Mal-do-Panamá", que se ha revelado como un material genético prometedor para la sustitución de cultivares del tipo Plata, en zonas comerciales con insidência de estas enfermedades. Debido a esto, el presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo evaluar las características productivas del segundo ciclo de la planta, en la ciudad de Botucatu-SP. Se evaluaron las seguientes variables de producción: masa del brote (kg), massa del raquis (kg), massa del racimo (kg), número de frutos por racimo, masa media de los frutos (g), número de pencas por racimo y productividad; en la segunda penca se evaluaron la masa, número, longitud y diámetro de los frutos. El método estadístico descriptivo se utilizó para evaluar las características del híbrido, utilizando cálculos de media y desviación estándar. Los resultados mostraron que el híbrido "FHIA 18" presentó un buen rendimento en las condiciones edafoclimáticas de Botucatu-SP, con un alto número de frutas por racimo (116 frutas) y una productividad promedio de 19,75 t ha-1, un valor cercano al rendimiento productivo promedio corriente en el estado de São Paulo. A bananeira “BRS FHIA 18” é um híbrido tetraploide de “Prata Anã” (subgrupo Prata), que apresenta resistência à “Sigatoka-negra” e ao “Mal-do-Panamá”, demonstrando ser um material genético promissor para a substituição dos cultivares do tipo Prata, em áreas comerciais com a incidência dessas doenças. Devido a isso, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar características produtivas do 2° ciclo da planta, no município de Botucatu-SP. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis de produção: massa das pencas (kg), massa da ráquis (kg), massa do cacho (kg), número de frutos por cacho, massa média dos frutos (g), número de pencas por cacho e produtividade; na 2а penca foram avaliados a massa, número, comprimento e diâmetro dos frutos. Foi utilizado o método das estatísticas descritivas para a avaliação das características do híbrido, através dos cálculos das médias e do desvio padrão. Os resultados mostraram que o híbrido “BRS FHIA 18” apresentou bom desempenho produtivo nas condições edafoclimáticas de Botucatu-SP, com alta quantidade de frutos por cacho (116 frutos) e produtividade média de 19,75 t ha-1, valor próximo ao rendimento produtivo médio atual no estado de São Paulo.

The induction of sprouting is a fundamental practice to grow temperate fruits in warmer regions, as the use of alternative products are necessary. This study aimed to verify the influence of foliar nitrogen fertilizer application to induce bud sprouting at different doses in three types of peach cultivars, regarding fruit quality, in Botucatu, state of Sao Paulo. This study occurred at the experimental orchard of Botucatu Agriculture School of Universidade Estadual Paulista (FCA/UNESP) in 2015 and 2016. Evaluations consisted of three cultivars Douradáo, BRS Kampai and BRS Rubimel; and four doses of foliar nitrogen fertilizer (0; 1.25; 2.50 and 3.75%) with 4% calcium nitrate in all treatments. A randomized experimental design was conducted with 12 treatments, 4 replicates and 5 fruits per plot, that is, 240 evaluated fruits in each productive cycle. Fruits produced by cultivar BRS Rubimel showed the highest mean mass among the others, being greater than 100 g, regardless of applied dose. In this study, different doses influenced physical, physicochemical and biochemical attributes of fruits in all cultivars. However, both cultivars showed good quality standards in terms of size, high soluble solids content and low acidity, being recommended for direct consumption in Botucatu, state of Sao Paulo. RESUMEN La inducción de brotación es una práctica fundamental en el cultivo de frutales en regiones de clima caliente. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de productos alternativos con la aplicación de diferentes dosis del fertilizante foliar nitrogenado (FFN), para inducir a la brotación y la calidad de frutos de tres cultivares de durazno en Botucatu - SP. El trabajo fue realizado durante los años 2015 y 2016, en la Estación Experimental de la Facultad de Ciencias Agronómicas de la Universidad Estadual Paulista, campus de Botucatu, SP. Los cultivares evaluados fueron durazno Douradáo, BRS Kampai y BRS Rubimel, con cuatro dosis de FFN: 0; 1,25; 2,50 y 3,75%, asociadas al 4% de nitrato de calcio. El diseño experimental fue en bloques al azar, con 12 tratamientos, 4 repeticiones y 5 frutos por parcela, totalizando 240frutos evaluados, en cada ciclo productivo. Los frutos producidos por el cultivar BRS Rubimel presentaron el mayor peso medio de los tres cultivares analizados, y fue superior a 100 g, indepen dientemente de la dosis del FFN utilizada. Las diferentes dosis del FFN utilizadas en este trabajo afectaron las características organolépticas de los frutos de los cultivares evaluados, en aspectos físicos, fisicoquímicos y bioquímicos. Los cultivares BRS Kampai y BRS Rubimel presentaron frutos con patrones óptimos de calidad en cuanto al tamaño, contenido de sólidos solubles y baja acidez, y son recomendados para producción destinada al consumo fresco en la región de Botucatu - SP.

The influence of climate on the development of lychee fruit is complex, but few studies have discussed the problem. We developed agrometeorological models for simulating the development of fruit fresh matter (FM), fruit dry matter (DM), fruit length (LE), fruit diameter (DI), fruit volume (VO), and fruit number per cluster (FN) of the “Bengal” lychee cultivar as functions of climatic conditions. We conducted three analyses: (a) the influence of mean meteorological elements on the rates of fruit growth, (b) estimation of fruit development by the agrometeorological models using sigmoidal adjustments, and (c) simulation of fruit development using multiple nonlinear regression of two meteorological elements to improve the accuracy. A rate of water deficit (WD) near 5 mm d-1 maximised FM, DM, LE, DI, and VO. Increases in potential evapotranspiration (PET), degree days (DD), and actual evapotranspiration (AET) were correlated with increases in VO and decreases in LE and NF. Models estimating fruit development indicated that the accumulation of WD, PET, AET, and DD had sigmoidal relationships with all variables of fruit growth except FN. FN decreased as WD, PET, AET, and DD increased. The adjusted multivariate models were accurate, with the largest error of 6.45 cm3 (VO). The best models were: FM = f(SWD, DD), LE = f(SAET, DD), DI = f(SWD, DD), VO = f(SWD, DD), and FN = f(SAET, WD). RESUMO A influência do clima no desenvolvimento de frutos de lichia é complexa, e poucos trabalhos abordam a questão. Objetivou-se com este trabalho determinar modelos agrometeorológicos para simular o desenvolvimento da matéria fresca (FM), matéria seca (DM), comprimento do fruto (FE), diâmetro do fruto (DI), volume do fruto (VO) e número de frutos (FN) de lichia “bengal”. Foram feitas 3 análises distintas: (a) analisaram-se as influências médias dos elementos meteorológicos nas taxas de variações do crescimento dos frutos; (b) estimou-se o desenvolvimento dos frutos por modelos agrometeorológicos, para tanto, empregaram-se modelos de regressões não lineares sigmoidais; (c) também foi simulado o desenvolvimento dos frutos utilizando regressão não linear com duas variáveis climáticas conjuntamente, buscando a melhoria da acurácia. Como resultado, analisando de forma média a influência das taxas de variação dos elementos meteorológicos nas taxas de crescimento dos frutos de lichia, verificou-se que a taxa de déficit hídrico (WD) em torno de 5 mm maximiza a FM, DM, LE, DI e VO. O aumento da taxa de evapotranspiração potencial (PET), evapotranspiração atual (AET) e graus-dias (DD) diminuem o LE, NF e aumentam o VO. Os modelos ajustados para a estimação dos valores ao longo do desenvolvimento dos frutos mostraram que o acúmulo de WD, PET, AET e DD tem relação sigmoidal em todas as variáveis de crescimento dos frutos, exceto para FN. O FN decresceu com o aumento do WD, PET, AET e DD. Os modelos multivariados ajustados foram acurados, uma vez que o maior erro encontrado foi de 6,45 (cm3) (VO). Os melhores modelos encontrados foram: FM = f(SWD, DD), LE = f(SAET, DD), DI = f(SWD, DD), VO = f(SWD, DD) e FN = f(SAET, WD).
