- Abstract
This book provides the first comprehensive demographic overview of remarriage in Japan. Despite the fact that nearly one in five marriages in Japan now involves at least one formerly married spouse, very little is known about the nature of remarriages and how they differ from first marriages. One important focus of this book is to examine fertility intentions and outcomes in remarriages and to compare them with marriages in which both partners are in their first marriage. It is well known that low rates of first marriage contribute to Japan's very low total fertility rate (TFR), but there is currently no theoretical or empirical basis for understanding how levels and patterns of remarriage are related to the TFR. To understand trends and patterns of remarriage in Japan, the book begins with an overview of the voluminous research literature on remarriage in the USA and other Western countries. This overview consists of a summary of trends and theoretical frameworks for understanding remarriage and is followed by a summary of existing research on correlates of remarriage and outcomes associated with higher-order marriages. Of particular importance is the attention paid to stepfamily fertility and the extent to which remarriage is associated with overall levels of fertility. An important contribution of this book is its presentation of basic descriptive information about levels and correlates of remarriage in Japan. These descriptive analyses are based on published data in the vital statistics reports and individual-level data from the National Fertility Surveys conducted by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research and the National Survey of Households with Children conducted by the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training.

- Abstract
Patients seeking fertility care may have experienced trauma prior to their fertility journey and often have experienced trauma as part of the fertility process itself. It is important for medical and administrative professionals that are involved in providing care to fertility patients to understand how to deliver care from a trauma-informed perspective. This is particularly important as the medical evaluation and treatment for fertility patients often involves invasive questions and procedures that can be difficult for patients with a history of trauma. While exposure to trauma has an international impact, this book is focused primarily on the research and experiences of reproductive medicine patients in the United States. It begins with a broad overview of trauma-informed care, and then goes on to focus on specific types of traumas that are likely to impact reproductive patients, including reproductive loss, sexual trauma, medical trauma, trauma perpetrated on individuals due to their sexual orientation or gender expression/identity, racial trauma or discrimination, and paramilitary trauma. The final chapters of the book are tailored to medical professionals, healthcare administrators and mental health professionals with recommendations for how to incorporate trauma-informed care for their specific role in the healthcare team. This text highlights how trauma-informed care principles apply to reproductive medicine and how trauma-informed care can support specific patient populations, such as those with a history of sexual trauma, medical trauma, reproductive loss, and patients that have experienced discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or race. Trauma-Informed Reproductive Healthcare provides specific recommendations and best practices for medical professionals and administrators in transforming their practice to be trauma-informed.

- Abstract
Infertility is one of the most painful and painfullycommon of human experiences. One in six couples will experience fertility challenges when they attempt to get pregnant, and while more and more people have spoken openly about infertility in recent years, the experience can still be incredibly isolating. But none of us is alone in our struggles. In fact, infertility is a universal part of the human experience that is mentioned in the earliest human writings. Across cultures and throughout time, the experiences of people who have faced fertility problems are widely discussed in early manuscripts, medical treatises, diaries, novels, poetry, plays, and song. After her own decade-long struggle to conceive, linguist and historian Karen Stollznow journeyed through history--from ancient civilizations and religions, to early-modern folklore, to current-day popular culture and modern medical practice--to try to make sense of what we mean by infertility and what infertility means for us. In Missed Conceptions, she shines a light on attitudes and beliefs about infertility, tests urban legends and old wives'tales, explores folk medicine and alternative therapies, and delves into modern science, separating fact from fiction along the way.Blending personal narrative, historical research, and pop culture, Stollznow gives voice to a reality that has long been spoken about in hushed tones. For anyone who is trying (and failing) to conceive, who will do just about anything to achieve what has been mistakenly called'the most natural thing in the world,'this book is a welcome and hopeful companion.

- Abstract
This book discusses the relationship between women's labour force participation and fertility rates in developed nations. It shows a positive relationship between women's workforce participation and childbirth. It theorises a new approach to explaining this'fertility paradox'that looks at institutional factors influencing gender equality in developed nations. The book analyses a range of institutional variables that impact the positive relationship between female employment and fertility rates, including labour market institutions, social policies and welfare state institutions (family policies, active labour market programs and public sector employment) as well as household gender dynamics. Written for both academics and policy-makers, this book has theoretical relevance for research on gender and work, and also for policies aimed at increasing women's employment and redressing low fertility, which are important issues in many developed nations.

- Abstract
The concept of “Waithood” was developed by political scientist Diane Singerman to describe the expanding period of time between adolescence and full adulthood as young people wait to secure steady employment and marry. The contributors to this volume employ the waithood concept as a frame for richly detailed ethnographic studies of “youth in waiting” from a variety of world areas, including the Middle East Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S, revealing that whether voluntary or involuntary, the phenomenon of youth waithood necessitates a recognition of new gender and family roles.

- Abstract

- Abstract
The word Adolescence is derived from the Latin word Adolescere. It means to grow or to mature. There are very conspicuous physical and mental changes at this age in the boys and girls. These normal physical and mental changes sometimes get abnormal or subnormal diversions, which may need help of parents or health worker to get through. Such subnormal changes are experienced in girls often frequently than boys. The common health issues faced by the girls are menstrual disorders, anemia, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), psychosocial problems, sexual problems and many more. Also there are many conditions or diseases in the girls which can affect the future fertility of a girl in various forms, if not taken care at right time. She may face infertility, abortions, premature deliveries, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), intrauterine death (IUD) or other complications in pregnancy. This book is all about the diseases or disorders which can affect the future fertility of an adolescent girl.

- Abstract
Since the 1970s, alarming discourses about declining fertility and the difficulties of balancing work and family have flourished in Western countries. Captured by the notion of the'biological clock', they put women's reproductive age and the fertility decline to the centre of public and medical attention. Reproductive biomedicine constitutes a specific domain invested with hopes for technological and medical answers and a new market for fertility extension technologies, such as egg donation and social egg freezing. Addressing long-standing questions about the articulation of the biological and the social in the making of bodies and identities, this book questions the nature of reproductive ageing, a taken for granted'fact of life'at the core of reproductive biomedicine. What is the biology of the'biological clock'made of and how can we account for its embodied reality from a feminist perspective? Opening the black box of the biological, the book makes a way between essentialism and constructivism with the aim of accounting for its materiality, while also illuminating its political implications. By following the ontological choreographies of age-related infertility in the science and medicine of reproduction, this study explores how age materializes and documents what happens when reproduction meets ageing. Deeply transdisciplinary, it questions what is fixed about the biology of the fertility decline in a way which adds complexity to debates about the biomedicalization of reproductive ageing.

- Abstract
Today, more and more couples are leaving having children until later. However, many do not realise that “later” can also mean “too late”, because the older we get, the harder it becomes. An increasing number of people trust in the success of artificial fertilisation, but, even though reproductive medicine is constantly making progress, the much-heralded biological clock cannot be turned back. The body eventually puts a natural limit on how long it is possible to have children. Since evolution has not made any changes to this, nothing can replace planning a family while there is still time. This book investigates the reasons a growing number of people are childless today. It explains in detail, using medical facts, what reproductive medicine can today achieve, and what it cannot. It analyses the options for success, as well as the limits of reproductive medicine.

- Abstract
The Visitation of Hannah Arendt is an attempt to literally enact Arendt's notion of'natality'. Arendt, known to a large extent through her engagement with the public sphere and with political discourse, is invited here to pay intimate visitations to four different figures: an anonymous student, the poetess Dahlia Ravikovich, the ghost of Stefan Zweig and Michal, Saul's daughter. The intellectual visitation, as a complex process of both mimesis and rejection, is revealed to be a natality, a rebirth in spirit. The book presents an aesthetic-semiotic reading of Arendt by traversing the ensemble of her work. A special chapter is dedicated to Eichmann in Jerusalem.

- Abstract
At the dawn of the 21st century, Utah leaders placed a time capsule below the front steps of the Utah State Capitol. The historic cache included a leather-bound book with letters to the future from 124 executive, legislative, and judicial branch leaders. Former governor Mike Leavitt's opening letter memorialized the solemn responsibility of Utah leaders to serve as "keepers of the flame." The flame symbolizes all that is great about Utah and the light Utah shares with the world.

- Abstract
Starting in 1978, when the first babies conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) were born in the UK and India, assisted reproduction has become a global industry. Contributors to this edited collection reflect on the global dimensions of IVF and assisted reproductive technologies, examining how people have used these technologies to create diverse family forms, including gay, lesbian, and transgender parenthood, as well as complex configurations of genetic, gestational, and social parenthood. The authors examine how IVF and other reproductive technologies have and have not circulated around the globe; how reproductive technologies can be situated historically, nationally, locally, and culturally; and the ways in which culture, practices, regulations, norms, families, and kinship ties may be reinforced or challenged through the use of assisted reproduction.

- Abstract
In this book new mathematical and statistical techniques that permit more sophisticated analysis are refined and applied to questions of current concern in order to understand the forces that are driving the recent dramatic changes in family patterns. The areas examined include the impact of the evolving Second Demographic Transition, where complex patterns of gender dynamics and social change are re-orienting family life. New analyses of marriage, cohabitation, union dynamics, and union dissolution provide a fresh look at the changing family life cycle, emerging patterns of partner choice, and the impact of union dissolution on the life course. The demography of kinship is explored, and the importance of parity progression to the generation of the kinship web is highlighted. The methodology of population projections by family status is examined, and new results presented that demonstrate how recognizing family status advances long term policy objectives, especially with regard to children and the elderly. This book applies up-to-date methods to examine the demography of the family, and will be of value to sociologists, demographers, and all those who are interested in the family.

- Abstract
Give yourself the best-possible odds for getting pregnant and having a baby with this concise, expert, and encouraging companion as your guide. In the only general guide to infertility written by a medical doctor who specializes in the subject, Mark Trolice, MD—who is board-certified in both OB/GYN and REI (Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility)—shares the practical knowledge he has gained from working in infertility medicine for years, with many hundreds of patients, along with the warmth and wisdom he has acquired from getting to know prospective parents from all kind of backgrounds. The journey from infertility to fertility, from childlessness to a brand-new baby, can be long and arduous. It involves complicated medical diagnoses, a wide range of treatment options, a host of potential lifestyle changes, lots of emotional ups and downs, and—even with the best medical insurance—challenging financial decisions. Your doctors cannot decide everything for you, and that is why an authoritative and comprehensive book, written in clear and understandable language for the layperson, is essential. This is that book. The book opens with an exploration of all the possible causes of infertility, covering both couples who have never been pregnant and ones who have had recurrent losses of pregnancies. Unique among infertility guides, this volume gives roughly equal weight to male and female causes, which is important because about 40% of infertility cases are due to men's issues—and some couples need to address issues in both the prospective mother and prospective father. It covers endometriosis, fibroids, POS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), tubal factor, male factor, and other possible causes. Next it looks at your treatment options. Importantly, these are not just medical interventions, but they also include lifestyle changes you alone can make, involving sleep, diet, exercise, and other forms of self-care. Among medical options, IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), and various surgical procedures are covered in detail. Some couples are lucky to have a short journey to fertility. For others, the process takes years. With a gentle and sure hand, and non-judgmentally, Dr. Trolice guides you through the many decisions you need to make along the way, such as whether or not to continue treatments, whether to change practitioners or treatments, and whether it is a good idea to continue to spend money on procedures not covered by your insurance. He understands that these are emotionally weighty decisions that involve the future of your family, and he provides ample grounds for optimism and hope, empowering you as you take this journey.
