Selenium Se is an essential micronutrient for humans and animals linked to important biological functions in the body, where its deficiency has been associated with serious diseases. Rice is essential in feeding more than half of the world's population. Some studies show beneficial effects of Se in higher plants. Thus, the objective of this work was to determine the effect of leaf Se doses on biofortification, agronomic characteristics and biochemical characteristics of the grains of two irrigated rice cultivars. The factors under study were five doses of Se (0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 g ha-1) using as sodium selenate source (Na2SeO4), and two rice cultivars (IRGA-424 and IRGA-426). The leaf application of Na2SeO4 allowed the biofortification of rice grains with Se, however, it affected its yield and some biochemical components. The cultivar IRGA-426 Se shows superior because it allows a higher concentration of Se in the grains, presents higher yield and better nutritional content. The cultivar IRGA-426 with the dose 60 g ha-1 Se was the viable combination to increase the content of Se in the grains, which may result in benefits for the health and food safety of the population.

Biofortification of basic crops is ideal because of the broader consumption of staple foods by the majority of the population. Beans are one of the main constituents of many Brazilian dishes, for urban and rural populations. Li is essential to the mental and behavioral health of human beings. The objective of this work was to study the assimilation of Lithium (Li) by cowpea beans (Vigna unguiculata), with the application of lithium hydroxide (LiOH). The study was carried out in a greenhouse at the Federal University of Tocantins, Campus de Gurupi. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design in a 5 x 3 arrangement, with five doses of Li (0; 10; 20; 30 and 40 mg kg-1); and three cultivars of Caupi beans (BRS Cauamé, BRS Itaim and BRS Nova Era) with four replicates. The application was performed via foliar, and the doses were divided into two applications of equal proportions, spaced in 15 days. Each experimental plot was represented by a vessel containing 10 kg of soil. Stem diameter, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of grains per pod, insertion of the first pod, plant height, mass of 100 grains, grain yield, lithium content, total nitrogen, crude protein and lipid content. The agronomic biofortification with Li occurred positively with the application of up to 26 kg Li ha-1 for the three cultivars, with up to 159.38% increase over the treatment without Li application. The results indicate that it is possible to increase the Li doses in Caupi with the use of lithium hydroxide (LiOH) in foliar fertilization.

Lithium (Li) is an element considered essential for humans, however, low concentrations in soil, water and food have caused low consumption by the world population. Consequently, fertilization via lithium leaf to increase its concentration in food employing biofortification is an alternative, given the growing health problems in the population caused by low intakes of this trace element.  Thus, the objective was to evaluate doses and sources of lithium, applied by foliar fertilization in the development and productivity of chia, in the south of the state of Tocantins. The experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Tocantins, Campus de Gurupi, in the agricultural year 2016/17 in pots with 8dm3 containing a dystrophic red-yellow Latosol, with a clay texture, in a randomized block design, in a factorial scheme 5x2, with four replicates. The first factor was constituted by five doses (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 g ha-1) and the second factor by two sources of Li (lithium hydroxide - LiOH and lithium sulfate - Li2SO4). Two applications were carried out by foliar fertilization, the first at 75 and the second at 95 days after transplanting. At 120 days, the characteristics of plant height, the height of the upper stem, stem diameter, bunch length, number of bunches and after harvest (145 days), the weight of a thousand grains, grain yield and Li content were evaluated in the grains. The supply via Li leaf through LiOH and Li2SO4 sources promoted the biofortification of chia grains. The highest concentrations of Li in the grains were obtained with the application of 29.2 and 31.8 g ha-1 of LiOH and Li2SO4, respectively. The best responses in cluster length, thousand-grain mass, and pH were obtained using LiOH. Regardless of the source, doses of lithium above 35 g ha-1 promote a reduction in the morphological and agronomic characteristics evaluated in the culture of chia.&nbsp

The study related to seed pathology is essential to know the sanitary quality, since the presence of pathogens in favor of seed can spread disease, and physiological influence the quality of seeds, resulting in low germination. Thus, this study aimed to identify the detection, transmission, and pathogenicity of fungi associated with the seeds of chia. The work was conducted in the Phytopathology Laboratory and experimental area of the Federal University of Tocantins, chia seeds produced being evaluated in Gurupi (Brazil) and Katueté (Paraguay). To check the sanitary quality of chia seed was used the method of the filter paper to the present lifting mycobiota which was subsequently isolated and cultured in a potato dextrose agar culture (BDA). For seed fungi, the transmission test to the plant was sowed 100 seeds of chia divided into four replicates of 25 seeds each. The seeds were sown in pots of 4 dm3 (four seeds per pot) evaluations were made to ten, twenty and thirty days after  emergence by observing the characteristic symptoms. The pathogenicity of fungi transported by the seed was evaluated by inoculation in the aerial part of seedlings. The fungi found associated with chia seeds were: Alternaria spp., Aspergillus spp., Bipolaris spp., Colletotrichum spp., Curvularia spp., Fusarium spp., Penicillium spp., Rhizoctonia spp, e Rhizopus spp. the fungus Colletotrichum spp. and Fusarium spp. They are transmitted to seedlings via seed. Genres Colletotrichum spp. and Fusarium spp. Are pathogenic to plants of chia.

Boron is an important micronutrient for all vegetables, being part of several metabolic functions within cells. Rice stands out as a staple food for more than half the world’s population and requires small amounts of boron. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of boron application at different times in the culture of irrigated rice in the conditions of the floodplains in the Southwest of the State of Tocantins. The experiment was installed at Fazenda Santa Rita, municipality of Lagoa da Confusão-TO in the 2015/2016 harvest, in bands, with a randomized block design, in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme, with 4 repetitions. The dose of 3.0 kg ha −1 of boron was applied, in the form of borax, via leaf, in four seasons. WereFour lowland rice cultivars (IRGA-424, IRGA-424 RI, IRGA-425, and IRGA-426) were used. The characteristics evaluated were: plant height, number of panicles, spikelet sterility, the mass of one hundred grains, grain yield, whole grains, and grain yield. Boron resulted in higher productivity. The highest yields were achieved with borate fertilization at 60 and 75 days after emergence. The genotypes IRGA-424 RI and IRGA-425 proved to be more efficient in the use of boron, is recommended at any time of application of the micronutrient.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the application of kinetin associated with nitrogen in coverage on the agronomic characteristics and soybean yield. In the 2016/2017 harvest, a 6x2 factorial scheme was used, six doses of kinetin (0; 0.30; 0.60; 0.90; 1.20; 1.50 g ha−1) and two doses of N (20 and 40 kg ha−1) and in the 2017/2018 harvest, factorial scheme 5x2 was used, five doses of kinetin   (0; 0.25; 0.75; 1.00; 1.25 g ha−1) and two doses of N (20 and 40 kg ha−1). Agronomic plant height characteristics, first pod insertion height, number of grains per plant, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, number of grains per pod, hundred-grain mass and grain yield were evaluated. The use of N alone and associated with kinetin increased the number of pods and grains in the 2016/2017 harvest. In the 2017/2018 crop, kinetin caused a reduction of 8.9% at plant height and N caused an increase in plant height and first pod insertion and reduced the number of pods and grains per plant, grains per pods and productivity.

Boron is an indispensable micronutrient for common bean culture, requiring careful studies in relation to the need and time of application since it presents a narrow range between deficiency and toxicity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of boron application at different times in common bean culture. An experiment was carried out in Gurupi-Tocantins, with four replicates in a factorial scheme 7 x 4, with seven cultivars (Aporé, Diplomata, IPR-Corujinha, IPR-Chopim, IPR-Gralha, CNFC 10467 and Sapphire) and four application times (T1- absence of boron application, T2- application of boron at 15 DAE -days after emergence-, T3- application of boron at 25 DAE, T4- Application of boron at 35 DAE). There was a significant interaction between the time of application of boron and genotypes for the characteristics of one hundred grains and grain yield. There is a difference between genotypes regarding the efficiency and use of boron. The most appropriate times for boron application, taking into account productivity, are 15 DAE for cultivars CNFC 10467 and Diplomata, and 25 DAE for Aporé and IPR-Chopim. Boron fertilization at 35 DAE is not recommended due to the non-responsiveness of the crop.

Cowpea is no longer a family-oriented crop. Today it is cultivated by medium and large farmers in the North and Northeast, due to their adaptation to edaphoclimatic conditions. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of hydrogel utilization in the retention and availability of water for the development and production of Cowpea beans when subjected to water stress. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with four replications in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, with five concentrations (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 kg ha-1) and two sources of hydrogels (Hydroplan-EB HyC and Polim-Agri). The cowpea cultivar used was BRS Vinager. The following characteristics were evaluated: number of pods per plant; Number of grains per pod; Pod length: one hundred grain mass and grain yield. The data were submitted to analysis of variance, with the application of the test F. Regression analysis was performed with the help of the SISVAR computer system. The use of hydrogel was an alternative to reduce losses resulting from the action of water stress; the concentrations of hydrogels between 15 and 18 kg ha-1 resulted in higher number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, the mass of one hundred grains and yields of grains.
