We discuss the constraints and phenomenology of the $Z_2 \times Z_2$ three Higgs doublet model (3HDM) with two inert scalars, originating two dark matter (DM) particles. We elucidate the competing vacua and we submit the model to all theoretical and current experimental constraints. We find unexplored regions of parameter space and investigate their experimental signatures. Abstract

Purpose: We examined the reliability of force parameters derived from the isometric midthigh pull (IMTP) and their correlation with the functional capacities of young soccer players. Methods: Data were collected from 20 young professional soccer players within and between 2 sessions (after 1 wk) using a 1000-Hz force plate. Results: Performance outputs in all IMTP parameters were consistent and showed moderate to excellent reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient =.72–1.00) within and between sessions. However, all parameters reported a marginal ability to detect chronic changes in performance (smallest worthwhile change [SWC] < standard error of measurement [SEM]) except for peak vertical force (PF) parameters, which showed good usefulness (SWC > SEM). Absolute PF was correlated with the countermovement-jump (CMJ) total impulse (CMJ-TI; r =.54), whereas relative PF (to body mass) was correlated with CMJ height, CMJ peak power, and the last speed of the 30:15 Intermittent Fitness Test (VIFT; r =.40 to.63). IMTP time-dependent forces were correlated with CMJ-TI (r =.52 to.62). The IMTP impulse parameters were positively correlated with CMJ-TI (r =.48 to.58) and negatively with VIFT (r = −.44 to −.38). None of the IMTP parameters were correlated either with the CMJ mean propulsive force or with any linear acceleration times. Conclusions: All IMTP parameters can be adopted by practitioners involved with testing young soccer players based on their acceptable reliability criteria. However, caution should be taken when interpreting the time-dependent variables based on their marginal usefulness when assessing performance. Abstract

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to interpolate between a pair of images of a dynamic scene. While in the past years significant progress in frame interpolation has been made, current approaches are not able to handle images with brightness and illumination changes, which are common even when the images are captured shortly apart. We propose to address this problem by taking advantage of the existing optical flow methods that are highly robust to the variations in the illumination. Specifically, using the bidirectional flows estimated using an existing pre-trained flow network, we predict the flows from an intermediate frame to the two input images. To do this, we propose to encode the bidirectional flows into a coordinate-based network, powered by a hypernetwork, to obtain a continuous representation of the flow across time. Once we obtain the estimated flows, we use them within an existing blending network to obtain the final intermediate frame. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our approach is able to produce significantly better results than state-of-the-art frame interpolation algorithms., Comment: Accepted to WACV 2023. 8. Factors Associated with Motor Competence in Preschoolers from a Brazilian Urban Area

Abstract

Background: Preschool is a crucial period for developing motor skills. Objective: This study evaluated factors associated with motor competence in preschoolers from a Brazilian urban area. Methods: A total of 211 preschoolers (51.2% girls and 48.8% boys) were evaluated. Body mass index was calculated; the Brazilian Economic Research Criterion, the Mini-Mental Scale (MMC) and the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale®, Revised (ECERS-R™) were applied; the Habitual Physical Activity time was recorded; the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) was performed. Univariate analysis was performed using simple linear regression for the independent variables, considering the motor test subscales as dependent variables. Variables with p < 0.20 in the univariate analysis were considered for the multiple linear regression model and were entered into the stepwise method. Results: The independent variables remaining in the Standard Score Locomotor model were BMI, presence of park at school, and MMC (R[superscript 2] = 0.16). The independent variables remaining in the Standard Object Control score were MMC and gender (R[superscript 2] = 0.03). The variables associated with the highest scores of Gross Motor Quotient were MMC, body mass index, and presence of a park at school, respectively (R[superscript 2] = 0.11). Conclusions: Male eutrophic preschoolers who are physically active and attend schools with parks or courtyards in a Brazilian urban area have the highest scores for global cognitive function and motor competence.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate how skeletal muscle attenuation and adipose tissue (AT) attenuation of the quadriceps, hamstrings, paraspinal muscle groups and the psoas muscle vary according to the targeted muscles, sex, and age.DesignPopulation-based cross-sectional study.SettingCommunity-dwelling old population in Reykjavik, Iceland.SubjectsA total of 5331 older adults (42.8% women), aged 66-96 years from the Age, Gene/Environment Susceptibility (AGES)- Reykjavik Study, who participated in the baseline visit (between 2002 and 2006) and had valid thigh and abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans were studied.MethodsMuscle attenuation and AT attenuation of the quadriceps, hamstrings, paraspinal muscle groups and the psoas muscle were determined using CT. Linear mixed model analysis of variance was performed for each sex, with skeletal muscle or AT attenuation as the dependent variable.ResultsMuscle attenuation decreased, and AT attenuation increased with age in both sexes, and these differences were specific for each muscle, although not in all age groups. Age-related differences in muscle and AT attenuation varied with specific muscle. In general, for both sexes, skeletal muscle attenuation of the hamstrings declined more than average with age. Men and women displayed a different pattern in the age differences in AT attenuation for each muscle.ConclusionsOur data support the hypotheses that skeletal muscle attenuation decreases, and AT attenuation increases with aging. In addition, our data add new evidence, supporting that age-related differences in skeletal muscle and AT attenuation vary between muscles.

Abstract

Accumulation of plastic waste is a major environmental problem. Enzymes, particularly esterases, play an important role in the biodegradation of polyesters. These enzymes are usually only active on aliphatic polyesters, but a few have showed catalytic activity for semi-aromatic polyesters. Due to the importance of these processes, an atomic level characterization of how common polyesters are degraded by esterases is necessary. Hereby, we present a Molecular dynamics (MD) and Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics (QM/MM) MD study of the hydrolysis of a model of polycaprolactone (PCL), one of the most widely used biomaterials, by the thermophilic esterase from the archaeon Archaeoglobus fulgidus (AfEST). This enzyme is particularly interesting because it can withstand temperatures well above the glass transition of many polyesters. Our insights about the reaction mechanism are important for the design of customized enzymes able to degrade different synthetic polyesters.

Abstract

Introduction Coronavirus disease 2019 was declared as a pandemic on March 2020. Research on its psychological effects is still lacking. Perinatal depression is a medical complication of pregnancy, especially in situations of stress. In this study, we aimed to investigate the presence of symptoms of depression in pregnant women during the lockdown period in Portugal. Methods This study consisted in a cross-sectional study among Portuguese pregnant women, who completed an online self-report questionnaire between 25th April and 30th April 2020. An anonymous online questionnaire was developed to assess depression and concerns related to COVID-19. This study was approved by the IRB of Hospital Dona Estefânia and performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. Eligibility criteria included pregnant women, [greater than or equal to] 18 years and living in Portugal. The primary outcome was to evaluate the presence of depressive symptoms and its association to socio-demographic characteristics and to concerns related to COVID-19. Results A total of 1698 pregnant women were enrolled. The mean age was 31.9 years. 82.4% felt a negative impact of the pandemic in the surveillance of pregnancy and 43% felt insufficient support. 26.3% showed 'possible depression' according to the EPDS. A regression analysis revealed the possibility of depression increased as the concerns about COVID increased and was lower for women with support. The possibility of depression was higher for women with psychiatric medical history. Conclusion This study demonstrated a significant increase in clinically significant depressive symptoms in pregnant women during the lockdown. It also revealed some of the socio-demographic characteristics of women at risk for depression. If left untreated, depression tends to persist, affecting the woman and also the child. Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of manipulating ball possession directionality (i.e., NO direction, MULTI direction or ONE direction) on the physical, tactical and technical performance of youth football players during small-sided games (SSGs). A total of 18 male youth football players (age: 13.6 ± 0.4 years) participated in four testing days, where they completed three random order experimental tasks based on a 4vs4 SSG: (i) NO direction, where players performed a ball possession task without a specific direction to progress; (ii) MULTI direction, where two neutral players were added to the top of each pitch and players could use them to maintain possession; and (iii) ONE direction, where each team defended and scored in two small goals placed at opposite ends of the pitch. In the positioning perspective, the NO condition showed a higher spatial exploration index than the other two conditions (p =.001), while higher distance to the nearest teammate was identified in the MULTI (p =.007) and to the nearest opponent in the ONE (p <.001). In the physical variables, higher game pace (p =.002), total distance covered (p <.001) and jogging distance (p <.001) were identified in the MULTI than the other conditions. Lastly, from the technical perspective, players revealed better passing decision-making (p =.004) in the ONE than NO or MULTI conditions. Based on these results, coaches may use NO condition to emphasize space exploration, MULTI to increase external load and game pace, while ONE to emphasize technical actions related to ball control and pass. Abstract

We discuss the constraints and phenomenology of the ℤ2 × ℤ2 three Higgs doublet model (3HDM) with two inert scalars, originating two dark matter (DM) particles. We elucidate the competing vacua and we submit the model to all theoretical and current experimental constraints. We find unexplored regions of parameter space and investigate their experimental signatures. In particular, we find regions where the two DM particles contribute equally to the relic DM density. Abstract

Aim: To present a rare case of xanthogranuloma affecting the oral cavity of an adult man and to highlight the utility of ultrasound in demonstrating its sonographic features and guiding the surgical procedure. Materials and Methods: Description of a rare case of oral xanthogranuloma in an adult patient, with treatment performed using ultrasound. This tool provides safety as it functions as a real‐time imaging technique that can be utilized during surgeries without exposing the patient to radiation. Results: The case exhibited oral xanthogranuloma as a hypoechoic image with poorly defined borders. Conclusion: Ultrasound is an excellent tool for aiding diagnostic investigation and during surgical procedures, serving as a surgical guide that ensures accuracy and safety. Abstract

Aim: To demonstrate a case of Actinomyces infection in which ultrasound was used as a diagnostic aid tool. Materials and Methods: Description of a case of cervicofacial actinomycosis in a patient, whose treatment and long‐term evaluation were performed using ultrasound, a crucial tool to ensure accuracy and real‐time images, without exposing the patient to radiation, contributing to the success of treatment. Results: In the case of actinomycosis, the ultrasound findings consisted of hyperechoic foci surrounded by hypoechoic areas. Conclusions: Ultrasonography plays a broad role in dentistry, being able to assist in diagnosis, guided surgical interventions and post‐treatment monitoring. Furthermore, ultrasound is an accessible and portable examination that can be used at the patient's bedside, especially in critical cases, proving to be a promising tool in clinical management in a hospital environment.
