The pressure dependence, up to 11.3 kbar, of basic parameters of the superconducting state, such as the critical temperature (Tc), the lower and the upper critical fields, the coherence length, the penetration depth, and their anisotropy, was determined from magnetic measurements performed for two singlecrystalline samples of FeTe0.5Se0.5. We have found pressure-induced enhancement of all of the superconducting state properties, which entails a growth of the density of superconducting carriers. However, we noticed more pronounced increase in superconducting carrier density under pressure than that in the critical temperature what may indicate an appearance of a mechanism limiting the increase of Tc with pressure. Superconducting single crystals of pure FeTe1 xSex and FeTe0.65Se0.35 doped with Co, Ni, Cu, Mn, Zn, Mo, Cd, In, Pb, Hg, V, Ga, Mg, Al, Ti, Cr, Sr or Nd into Fe ions site have been grown applying Bridgman's method. It has been found that the sharpness of transition to the superconducting state in FeTe1 xSex is evidently inversely correlated with crystallographic quality of the crystals. Among all of the studied dopants only Co, Ni and Cu substitute Fe ions in FeTe0.65Se0.35 crystals. The remaining examined ions do not incorporate into the crystal structure. Nevertheless, they form inclusions together with selenium, tellurium and/or iron, what changes the chemical composition of host matrix and therefore influences Tc value. Small disorder introduced into magnetic sublattice, by partial replacement of Fe ions by slight amount of nonmagnetic ions of Cu (~ 1.5 at%) or by magnetic ions of Ni (~ 2 at%) and Co (~5 at%) with spin value different than that of Fe ion, completely suppresses superconductivity in FeTe1 xSex system. This indicates that even if superconductivity is observed in the system containing magnetic ions it can not survive when the disorder in magnetic ions sublattice is introduced, most likely because of magnetic scattering of Cooper pairs., Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables

Inelastic neutron scattering measurements were performed on single crystal Co3V2O8 wherein magnetic cobalt ions reside on distinct spine and cross-tie sites within kagome staircase planes. This system displays a rich magnetic phase diagram which culminates in a ferromagnetic ground state below Tc~6 K. We have studied the low-lying magnetic excitations in this phase within the kagome plane. Despite the complexity of the system at higher temperatures, linear spin-wave theory describes most of the quantitative detail of the inelastic neutron measurements. Our results show two spin-wave branches, the higher energy of which displays finite spin-wave lifetimes well below Tc, and negligible magnetic exchange coupling between Co moments on the spine sites., Comment: 4 pages and 4 figures

The ultrasonic properties of La$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$ ($x\approx 0.25$) with the Curie temperature $T_C$ about 200 K are studied. Temperature dependences of longitudinal and transverse sound velocities were measured in zero magnetic field and for different constant magnetic fields as well. The ultrasonic study is supported by magnetic, resistive, magnetoresistive, structural and other measurements of the sample that facilitate interpretation of the results obtained. The magnetic field influence on sound properties found in this study presents some new features of the interplay between the elastic and magnetic properties of these compounds. It is shown that the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in the sample studied is first order, but can become second order under the influence of applied magnetic field., Comment: submitted to Phys. The paper describes a study of the magnetic, transport and magnetoresistive properties of La_{1-x}Ca_{x}MnO_{3} (x\approx 0.33) crystals prepared by the floating-zone method. We found that these properties testify to rather good crystal perfection of the sample studied. In particular, a huge magnetoresistance ([R(0)-R(H)]/R(H) in the field H = 5 T is about 2680 %) is found near the Curie temperature (216 K). At the same time, some distinct features of measured properties indicate the influence of extrinsic inhomogeneities arising due to technological factors in the sample preparation. Analysis of the data obtained shows that these are rare grain boundaries and twins. Specific influence of the grain-boundary-like inhomogeneities on the transport and magnetoresistive properties are considered., Comment: Submitted to Physica B

The DC transport properties of and the radio-frequency (RF) wave absorption (at 2.525 MHz) in a sample of La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_{3}$ prepared by floating-zone method are measured. The Curie temperature, $T_{c}$, of the sample is about 374 K. Giant temperature and magnetic-field variations in RF absorption are found in the vicinity of $T_{c}$. Relative change of the RF absorption in magnetic field (magnetoabsorption) is about 67% in field 2.1 kOe and about 55% in field 1 kOe. This giant magnetoabsorption effect can be used to develop RF devices controlled by temperature and low magnetic field. A weak temperature dependence of magnetoabsorption for the sample studied in the range from room temperature to about 350 K makes it especially attractive for practical use. The RF study supplemented with transport, magnetoresistive and magnetic measurements enables us to discuss the optimal properties of manganite samples for observation of giant magnetoabsorption in low field., Comment: Submitted to J.
