Abstract

Convective ow and heat transfer of uid inside a square en- closure having heat generating solid body, with various thermal boundary conditions is investigated numerically. The top wall of the enclosure is adiabatic, both the bottom and right walls are kept at constant temper- ature, while the left wall is heated using sin function. Numerical simu- lations is carried out by solving the governing equations using SIMPLE algorithm by means of the nite-volume method with power-law scheme. The important parameters focused are angle of inclination of the enclo- sure, area ratio of solid-enclosure, Hartmann number and temperature dierence ratio of solid- uid, which are ranges 0o - 90o, 0:0625 - 0:5625, 0 - 100 and 0 - 50, respectively. Thermal conductivity ratio of solid- uid is xed as 5 and Rayleigh number as 105.

Abstract

Temperature distribution which occurs in pavement and bridge slabs heated for de-icing and snow melting during cold periods is determined by using vertical ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems with U-tube ground heat exchanger (GHE). The bridge and pavement models (slabs) for de-icing and snow melting were constructed. A three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) was developed to simulate temperature distribution of bridge slab (BS) and pavement slab (PS). The temperature distribution simulations of PS and BS were conducted numerically by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program named ‘Fluent’. Congruence between the simulations and experimental data was determined.

16. Real wave packet and quasiclassical trajectory studies of the H+ + LiH reaction.

Abstract

Time-dependent real wave packet (RWP) and quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) calculations have been carried out to study the H+ + LiH reaction on the ab initio potential-energy surface of Martinazzo et al. [J. Chem. Phys., 2003, 119, 11241]. Total initial state-selected and final state-resolved reaction probabilities for the two possible reaction channels, H2+ + Li and LiH + H+, have been calculated for total angular momentum J = 0 at a broad range of collision energies. Integral cross sections and thermal rate coefficients have been calculated using the QCT method and from the corresponding J = 0 RWP reaction probabilities by means of a capture model. The calculated thermal rate coefficients are found to be nearly independent of temperature in the 100–500 K interval with a value of ≈10−9 cm3 s−1, which is in good agreement with estimates used in evolutionary models of early-Universe lithium chemistry. The RWP results are found to be in good agreement overall with the corresponding QCT calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to industrialization, a number of factories and human population have increased rapidly. As a result, the amount of waste matter such as heavy metals released to the environment has been increased. Specifically aquatic systems are more sensitive to heavy metal pollution and the gradual increase in the levels of such metals in aquatic environments, mainly due to anthropogenic sources, have become a problem of primary concern (Ashraf et al., 2012). The natural aquatic ecosystems may extensively be contaminated with heavy metals released from domestic, industrial and other anthropogenic activities (Kamaruzzaman et al., 2011).

Abstract

In this study, the epipsammic diatoms in Ağın Region of Keban Dam Lake were analyzed at two stations between March-November 2016. As a result, 41 diatom taxa in total were recorded; while two of these taxa belonged to the Centrales, 39 of them belonged to the Pennales ordo. The epipsammic diatoms showed their best growth in early months of autumn and in summer when light and temperatures were high. During the study, at both of the stations, the most significant diatoms in terms of their numbers of individuals and frequency of occurrence were Navicula spp., Nitzschia spp. and Cymbella spp. © 2019, Green Wave Publishing of Canada. Abstract

PubMed ID: 29862553, Irisin, a novel peptide, was initially been shown to be expressed explicitly in the muscle tissues. We studied the presence of irisin immunoreactivity in porcupine adrenal glands and kidneys. Immunocytochemistry showed that irisin was localised both in the adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla. In organs, irisin immunoreactivity was found in the tubular and collecting system of the nephron. The functional role of irisin in the adrenal gland and kidney has not been precisely yet. However, irisin might have a paracrine and autocrine function as do other locally produced peptides. © 2018 Blackwell Verlag GmbH

Abstract

This research aims at determining views of health personnel regarding benefits of exercises performed properly in prenatal and postnatal processes of pregnancy. For this purpose, a questionnaire composed of two parts was applied on 570 attendees. Within the scope of the analysis, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, Factor Analysis, Correlation Analysis, independent sample t-test, Anova analysis, Chi-square analysis, Kruskal Wallis-H and Jonckheere-Terpstra Testa analyses were used. PASW 18.0 packet program was used in the analysis of data acquired from the research. At the end of the research, it was found that views of attendees regarding the importance of sports activities physically and mentally differed by number of pregnancy, educational status, working in private or public sector and having experienced an abortion or curettage. Furthermore, it was determined that views that sports activities protected babies differed by attendees who experienced abortion or curettage and educational status; and experiencing abortion or curettage was independent from educational status. © Kamla-Raj 2018.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: We examined the follicular fluid (FF) and serum levels of irisin in high and poor responders undergoing IVF/ICSI to test whether irisin has a role in the metabolic regulation of energy homeostasis in growing follicle. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twenty infertile women with PCOS and 20 poor responder participants undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) with GnRH antagonist protocol for IVF/ICSI treatment were allocated. Blood was obtained at the time of oocyte retrieval. The follicular fluid content of mature follicles was collected from both high and poor responder women. Irisin levels were measured by using EIA. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between serum and FF-irisin levels in women with PCOS. (11.18 ± 5.14 µg/mL vs. 11.06 ± 4.93 µg/mL, p < 0.96). In contrast, serum levels of irisin in poor responders were significantly higher than in the FF-irisin levels (13.13 ± 4.27 µg/mL vs. 10.09 ± 4.14 µg/mL, p < 0.01). FF-irisin levels of PCOS subjects were positively and significantly correlated with serum levels of irisin (r: 0.81, p < 0.00). Serum irisin was positively associated with serum levels of total testosterone but was negatively associated with HOMA-IR in the overall patient population. FF-irisin levels were also noted to be negatively correlated with HOMA-IR. Although there is no correlation between serum irisin and AMH levels, FF irisin levels were negatively correlated with serum AMH levels in PCOS subjects. Contrary to PCOS group there were no significant correlation between serum and FF-irisin levels in poor responder group (r: 0.21; p < 0.35). CONCLUSIONS: The present study is the first attempt to explore the role of irisin in oocyte development by measuring FF and serum levels of this molecules in patients with poor and high responders undergoing IVF/ICSI.

Abstract

PubMed ID: 26241532, OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of diffusion- weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWMRI) for differentation between Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty patients (27 Graves diseases and 23 Hashimoto thyroiditis) and twenty healthy volunteers were examined using T1, T2 and DWMRI. The patients were diagnosed on the basis of physical findings and the results of thyroid function tests and serological tests. Circular ROIs were positioned on the bilateral thyroid lobes and isthmus. All measurements were repeated three different b values including 100, 600 and 1000 s/mm2 in all cases. ADC (Apparent diffusion coefficient) maps were calculated automatically with the MR system. RESULTS: Mean ADC values were 2.93 × 10-3, 1.97 × 10-3 and 1.62 × 10-3 mm2/s in the healthy volunteers; 3.47 × 10-3, 2.25 × 10-3 and 1.64 × 10-3 Mm2/s in Graves' disease; 2.53 × 10-3, 1.76 × 10-3, 1.28 × 10-3 mm2/s in Hashimoto thyroiditis for b100, b600 and b1000, respectively. The ADC values of the Graves diseases were higher than healty volunteers and Hashimoto thyroiditis. ADC values were statistically significant for differentation between Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves' disease all b values (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: DWMRI is fast sequence and does not require contrast agent. Quantitative assessment of the lesion is possible using ADC map. So, DWMRI may be useful differentiation of the Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves' disease.

Abstract

TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with a high incidence of morbidity and mortality lowering the quality of life with acute and chronic complications and it needs to be followed up and treated throughout the lifespan. Concordant with the frequency of DM and the increase in the length of life frequency of DNP is also increased. The I allele of the ACE I/D polymorphism, AGT M235T’s T allele and ADD G460W’s W allele presence are purported to present a predisposition to DNP. In our study we aimed to investigate the effect of the AGT M235T, ACE I/D and ADD 460W polymorphisms in the development of DNP in patients with diabetes mellitus. The study group consisted of 194 patients with Diabetic nephropathy and the control group contained 100 DM patients. In the diabetic group the DD genotype of the ACE I/D polymorphism was 54 (54.0%) and the D allele was 69.0% and in the nephropathy group II genotype of the ID were 78 (40.2%) and 51 (26.3%) and the I allele was 46.4 respectively and the presence of the I allele was associated with the presence of nephropathy. There was no significance between the genotypes in the presence of a coexistence of AGT M235T and ACE I/D polymorphisms between the groups the MD alleles (42%) demonstrated significance in the diabetic and the T/I alleles (28.1) demonstrated significance in the nephropathy group. In the ADD G640W polymorphism on its own, subjects having GG (77.3%) and WW (7.7%) genotypes (p=0.025) might have been predisposed to nephropathy however when in combination with the ACE I/D, the presence of the DD/GG (45%) in the diabetic group and the presence of the ID/GG (29.9%) and II/GG (19.6%) combination in the DNP group were statistically significant. The D/G (64%) alleles were significant in the diabetic and the I/G (36.6) alleles were significant in the DNP groups respectively. As a conclusion we think that the II-ID/GG genotype and the I/G alleles in the presence of the ACE-ADD combination and TT/ID genotype and T/I alleles in the ACE-AGT combination may be effective in the predisposition of the diabetic patients to nephropathy. © 2015, TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI. Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between subclinical mastitis and milk arginase activity in dairy cows. Thirty, various breed 4-8 year old cows from Firat University Animal Hospital were used in the study. Subclinical mastitis was diagnosed by the California Mastitis Test (CMT) combined with bacteriological examination of milk samples. The subclinical mastitis group consisted of fifi fteen clinically healthy but CMT and microbiologically positive animals. CMT and microbiologically negative animals (n =15) served as the control group. Arginase activity in milk samples was measured by spectrophotometer using the thiocemicarbazide diacetylmonoxime urea (TDMU) method and protein was determined with the folin phenol reagent. Arginase activity in the milk of animals with subclinical mastitis (0.26 ± 0.07 U/mg protein) signififi cantly increased compared to the arginase activity in the milk from healthy animals in the control group (0.10 ± 0.03 U/mg protein). Milk enzyme activity in the mildly severe disease (0.26 ± 0.01 U/mg protein) was signififi cantly lower than in the moderately severe disease (0.30 ± 0.01 U/mg). No relationship was found between the nature of the bacterial infection of the cows with subclinical mastitis and their milk arginase activity. Abstract

PubMed ID: 22907153, Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the rate of collagen Type I/Type III for different meshes. Method: Fifty rats were used. Five groups were formed: prolene (n = 10), mersilene (n = 10), parietex (n = 10), e PTFE (n = 10) and control group (n = 10). In all animals, laparotomy was performed using a midline incision. After that four different kinds of meshes are placed into the retro-rectus plane and fixed with a non-absorbable suture. Rectus superficial fascia and skin are closed. In the control group, repairment is done primarily. Thirty days later, meshes are found through the incisions that were done previously. Scar tissues above and near by meshes and also in the control group are taken, and in these tissue samples, the ratio of Type I/III is evaluated histochemically. Results: The Prolene mesh was found to contain more collagen fibers than e PTFE. As a result of the histopathologic evaluation, it was seen that Group I contained statistically significantly more collagen density than the other four groups (p < 0.05). Moreover, the collagen Type I/III ratio in the specimen taken from the top part and the surrounding area of Group I was found significantly higher than the collagen Type I/III ratios of the rest of the groups (p < 0.05). Abstract

Environmental health properties such as total coliform (TC), fecal coliform (FC) and heavy metals were investigated during composting of Marketplace Waste (MW) and the changes in radioactivity were investigated in raw and stabile composts. The number of coliforms decreased during composting and the composts obtained in this study had heavy metals under the standards. Alpha and beta radioactivity levels decreased. The concentrations of 40K and 137Cs were determined. Abstract

International audience; BACKGROUND: Mucormycosis is an emerging aggressive mold infection. This study aimed to assess the outcome of hospitalized adults with rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM). The secondary objective was to identify prognostic factors in this setting. METHODS: This study was an international, retrospective, multicenter study. Patients’ data were collected from 29 referral centers in 6 countries. All qualified as "proven cases" according to the EORTC/MSGERC criteria. RESULTS: We included 74 consecutive adult patients hospitalized with ROCM. Rhino-orbito-cerebral type infection was the most common presentation (n = 43; 58.1%) followed by rhino-orbital type (n = 31; 41.9%). Twenty (27%) had acquired nosocomial bacterial infections. A total of 59 (79.7%) patients (16 in combination) received appropriate antifungal treatment with high-doses of liposomal amphotericin B. Fifty-six patients (75.7%) underwent curative surgery. Thirty-five (47.3%) required intensive care unit admission (27; 36.5% under mechanical ventilation). Hospital survival was 56.8%, being reduced to 7.4% in patients with invasive mechanical ventilation. A multivariate binary backward logistic regression model identified confusion at admission (OR 11.48), overlapping hospital-acquired infection (OR 10.27), use of antifungal treatment before diagnosis (OR 10.20), no surgical debridement (OR 5.92), and the absence of prior sinusitis (OR 6.32) were independently associated with increased risk for death. CONCLUSION: Today, ROCM still has high mortality rate. Improving source control, rational therpy, and preventing nosocomial infections may improve survival in this severe infection.

Abstract

This paper describes an experimental investigation of the drying behaviour and conditions of pumpkin slices via a convective cyclone-type dryer. Drying experiments were conducted at air inlet temperatures of 60, 70 and 80 °C and air velocities of 1 and 1.5 m s−1. Samples of 200 g of cylindrical pumpkin slices (thickness 5 mm × diameter 35 mm) were arranged in a single layer on each of two trays. The least squares method was applied to derive the drying curve equation of samples. During the experiments the following parameters were measured: weight loss, temperature, relative moisture and velocity. From these parameters, dimensionless mass loss, moisture content, mass shrinkage and drying rate of samples were calculated and are discussed in detail. Additionally, the transport of water during dehydration was described by the diffusion mechanism, and Fick's equation was used for evaluation of the experimental data. The linear sections of drying curves were analysed by linear regression to obtain the moisture diffusivities. It was found that pumpkin slices would dry perfectly within 340–720 min under these drying conditions. The convective cyclone dryer could also be used to dry other products. Thus it is expected that this new dryer will help farmers and producers to reduce the cost of drying. Copyright © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry

Abstract

The main objective pursued in this paper is to investigate the single layer drying behaviour of potato slices experimentally in a convective cyclone dryer and also to perform mathematical modeling by using single layer drying models in the literature. Drying experiments of potato slices with the thicknesses of 12.5 and 8 mm were conducted at inlet temperatures of drying air of 60, 70 and 80 °C and with drying air velocities of 1 and 1.5 m/s. It was concluded that potato slices with thickness of 12.5 mm would dry perfectly in the range of 460-740 min, while those with thickness of 8 mm would dry in the range of 280-520 min in these drying conditions in the convective type cyclone dryer. Additionally, the mathematical model describing the single layer drying curves was determined by non-linear regression analysis, and an approximation of the diffusion model was selected as the most suitable model to describe the drying curve equation of potato slices. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Abstract

The study was conducted in Erbil city north of Iraq. Everywhere in the world, the drinking water utilities face the challenge of providing water of good quality to their consumers as significant water quality changes can occur within drinking water distribution systems due to contamination. From this study, we have collected water samples from twenty well drinking waters in some quarters from Erbil City with three replicas. Our results showed that the maximum value of free chlorine recorded in (Badawa and Galawesh) quarters which were greater than 0.5, while, the values of free chlorine of most quarters were less than 0.2, which were not within the recommended safe residual chlorine level of 0.2–0.5mg/l.

Abstract

Mobile augmented reality (MAR) draws attention in terms of providing a flexible learning process and environment. It is thought that learning environments can be more effective using MAR technology. The research aimed to determine the secondary school students' views on the use of MAR technology in science teaching. The research was conducted with 143 students studying in the sixth grade at two different secondary schools in Turkey. In the research, convergent parallel patterns from mixed-method patterns were used. For eight weeks, the research was carried out to cover the systems unit in our body, situated in the 6th-grade science course curriculum. During the process, the Anatomy 4D application was used in the experimental group during the procedure, and the science course curriculum was used in the control group. In this paper, a part of the mixed research, the qualitative data collected from the experimental group's semi-structured interview form and diaries were analyzed. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, although the students do not have a clear idea about AR and MAR technologies at the beginning of the application, it is observed that their thoughts change over time, and MAR applications are effective on the success of the course.

Abstract

Purpose This paper aims to numerically examine the mixed convection of SiO2-water nanofluid flow in a three-dimensional (3D) cubic cavity with a conductive partition considering various shapes of the particles (spherical, cylindrical, blade, brick). The purpose is to analyze the effects of various pertinent parameters such as Richardson number (between 0.1 and 10), Hartmann number (between 0 and 10), solid nanoparticle volume fraction (between 0 and 0.04), particle shape (spherical, cylindrical, blade, brick) and different heights and lengths of the conductive partition on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. Design/methodology/approach The numerical simulation was performed by using Galerkin-weighted residual finite element method for various values of Richardson number, Hartmann number, solid nanoparticle volume fraction, particle shape (spherical, cylindrical, blade, brick) and different heights and lengths of the conductive partition. Two models for the average Nusselt number were proposed for nanofluids with spherical and cylindrical particle by using multi-layer feed-forward neural networks. Findings It was observed that the average Nusselt number reduces for higher values of Richardson number and Hartmann number, while enhances for higher values of nanoparticle volume fraction. Among various types of particle shapes, blade ones perform the worst and cylindrical ones perform the best in terms of heat transfer enhancement, but this is not significant which is less than 3 per cent. The average Nusselt number deteriorates by about 6.53per cent for nanofluid at the highest volume fraction of spherical particle shapes, but it is 11.75per cent for the base fluid when Hartmann number is increased from 0 to 10. Conductive partition geometrical parameters (length and height) do not contribute to much to heat transfer process for the 3D cavity, except for the case when height of the partition reaches 0.8 times the height of the cubic cavity, the average Nusselt number value reduces by about 25per cent both for base fluid and for nanofluid when compared to case with cavity height which is 0.2 times the height of the cubic cavity. Originality/value Based on the literature survey, a 3D configuration for MHD mixed convection of nanofluid flow in a cavity with a conductive partition considering the effects of various particle shapes has never been studied in the literature. This study is a first attempt to use a conductive partition with nanofluid of various particle shapes to affect the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a 3D cubic cavity under the influence of magnetic field. Partial or all findings of this study could be used for the design and optimization of realistic 3D thermal configurations that are encountered in practice and some of the applications were already mentioned above. Abstract

Phase change materials (PCMs) are capable of storing energy as latent energy by changing the phase and provide the stored energy when they are returned to their initial phase at a desired time. Due to the varying melting temperature of these materials, their application in air conditions of buildings, as well as the provision of hygienic hot water has received much attention, recently. This paper first provides a detailed illustration of phase change materials and their working principle, different types, and properties. Then a characteristic example of PCMs in solar energy storage and the design of PCMs are reviewed and analyzed. Next, this paper focuses on the heat transfer, melting and freezing processes of PCM/nano-PCMS including different models and experimental research on the natural convection and thermal energy storage. Finally, some challenges and suggestions are presented following the conclusion of this article. It is found that these materials generally improve system efficiency. Without using mechanical equipment, these materials are naturally adapted to the temperature fluctuations of the environment, leading to a reduction in energy consumption and subsequently energy management.

Abstract

BackgroundTuberculous meningitis (TBM) represents a diagnostic and management challenge to clinicians. The“Thwaites’ system” and “Lancet consensus scoring system” are utilized to differentiate TBM from bacterial meningitis but their utility in subacute and chronic meningitis where TBM is an important consideration is unknown.MethodsA multicenter retrospective study of adults with subacute and chronic meningitis, defined by symptoms greater than 5 days and less than 30 days for subacute meningitis (SAM) and greater than 30 days for chronic meningitis (CM). The “Thwaites’ system” and “Lancet consensus scoring system” scores and the diagnostic accuracy by sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of receiver operating curve (AUC-ROC) were calculated. The “Thwaites’ system” and “Lancet consensus scoring system” suggest a high probability of TBM with scores ≤4, and with scores of ≥12, respectively.ResultsA total of 395 patients were identified; 313 (79.2%) had subacute and 82 (20.8%) with chronic meningitis. Patients with chronic meningitis were more likely caused by tuberculosis and had higher rates of HIV infection (P P P ConclusionBoth criteria can be helpful in distinguishing TBM from bacterial meningitis, but only the Lancet consensus scoring system can help differentiate TBM from meningitis caused by fungal, viral and unknown etiologies even though significant overlap occurs and the overall diagnostic accuracy of both criteria were either poor or fair.

Abstract

Natural convection in cavities is an interesting subject for many researchers. Especially, in recent years, the number of articles written in this regard has grown enormously. This work provides a review of recent natural convection studies. At first, experimental studies were reviewed and, then, numerical studies were examined. Then, the articles were classified based on effective parameters. In each section, numerical studies were examined the parameters added to the cavity such as magnetic forces, fin, porous media and cavity angles. Moreover, studies on non-rectangular cavities were investigated. Free convection in enclosures depends more on the fluid velocity relative to the forced convection, leading to the opposite effect of some parameters that should essentially enhance rate of heat transfer. Nanoparticle addition, magnetic fields, fins, and porous media may increase forced convection. However, they can reduce free convection due to the reduction in fluid velocity. Thus, these parameters need more precision and sometimes need the optimization of effective parameters.

Abstract

Mixed convection of carbon-nanotube/water nanofluid in a vented cavity with an inner conductive T-shaped object was examined under pulsating flow conditions under magnetic field effects with finite element method. Effects of different parameters such as Richardson number (between 0.05 and 50), Hartmann number (between 0 and 30), cavity wall inclination (between 0 ∘ and 10 ∘ ), size (between 0.1 H and 0.4 H) and orientation (between −90 ∘ and 90 ∘ ) of the T-shaped object, and amplitude (between 0.5 and 0.9) and frequency (Strouhal number between 0.25 and 5) of pulsating flow on the convective flow features were studied. It was observed that the average Nusselt number enhanced with the rise of strength of magnetic field, solid nanoparticle volume fraction, and amplitude of the pulsation, while the effect was opposite for higher values of Ri number and cavity wall inclination angle. The presence of the T-shaped object and adjusting its size and orientation had significant impact on the main flow stream from inlet to outlet and recirculations around the T-shaped object and in the vicinity of hot wall of the cavity along with the magnetic field strength. Pulsating flow resulted in heat transfer enhancement as compared to steady flow case for all configurations. However, the amount of increment was different depending on the variation of the parameters of interest. Heat transfer enhancements were 41.85% and 20.81% when the size of the T-shaped object was increased from 0.1 H to 0.4 H. The T-shaped object can be utilized in the vented cavity as an excellent tool for convective heat transfer control. As highly conductive CNT particles were used in water, significant enhancements in the average Nusselt number between 97% and 108% were obtained both in steady flow and in pulsating flow cases when magnetic field was absent or present.

5 pags., 3 figs., Context. SH+ is a surprisingly widespread molecular ion in diffuse interstellar clouds. There, it plays an important role by triggering the sulfur chemistry. In addition, SH+ emission lines have been detected at the UV-illuminated edges of dense molecular clouds, so-called photo-dissociation regions (PDRs), and toward high-mass protostars. An accurate determination of the SH+ abundance and of the physical conditions prevailing in these energetic environments relies on knowing the rate coefficients of inelastic collisions between SH+ molecules and hydrogen atoms, hydrogen molecules, and electrons. Aims. We derive SH+-H fine and hyperfine-resolved rate coefficients from recent quantum calculations for the SH+-H collisions, including inelastic, exchange, and reactive processes. Methods. The method we used is based on the infinite-order sudden approach. Results. State-to-state rate coefficients between the first 31 fine levels and 61 hyperfine levels of SH+ were obtained for temperatures ranging from 10 to 1000 K. Fine-structure resolved rate coefficients present a strong propensity rule in favor of Δj = ΔN transitions. The Δj = ΔF propensity rule is observed for the hyperfine transitions. Conclusions. The new rate coefficients will help significantly in the interpretation of SH+ spectra from PDRs and UV-irradiated shocks where the abundance of hydrogen atoms with respect to hydrogen molecules can be significant., We acknowledge the French-Spanish collaborative project PICS (Ref. Abstract

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a severe parasitic disease caused by the species complexEchinococcus granulosussensu lato. Human infections are most commonly associated withE. granulosussensu stricto (s.s.), comprising genotypes G1 and G3. The objective of the current study was to provide first insight into the genetic diversity and phylogeography of genotype G3. Despite the epidemiological importance of the genotype, it has remained poorly explored due to the ambiguity in the definition of the genotype. However, it was recently demonstrated that long sequences of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) provide a reliable method to discriminate G1 and G3 from each other. Therefore, we sequenced near-complete mtDNA of 39 G3 samples, covering most of the known distribution range and host spectra of the genotype. The phylogenetic network revealed high genetic variation withinE. granulosus s.s.G3 and while G3 is significantly less prevalent worldwide than G1, the genetic diversity of both of the genotypes is equally high. We also present the results of the Bayesian phylogeographic analysis, which yielded several well-supported diffusion routes of genotype G3 originating from Turkey and Iran, suggesting the Middle East as the origin of the genotype.

Abstract

International audience; We investigated the distribution of Zr, Hf, and rare earth elements (REE) as the sum of lanthanides plus Y in the hydrothermal system in the Lake Van area of south-eastern Turkey. This system is characterised by water with variable pH in alkaline conditions resulting from hydrothermal CO2 upraise and neoformation of calcite minerals in near equilibrium with the interacting waters. Zr, Hf, and REE determinations were carried out for aqueous phases and suspended solids in lake water and surrounding thermal springs. We found that dissolved Hf is partitioned relative to Zr during calcite formation and that such fractionation is a function of the Ca2+ activity in warm water. The observed Zrsingle bondHf fractionation is explained by coulombic interactions that occur between suspended solid particles and dissolved phases at the calcite-water interface. There, the surfaces of carbonate minerals demonstrated greater reactivity towards aqueous Hf-bearing species relative to Zr-complexes. This evidence involves a coulombic mechanism of reactivity at the calcite-water interface because Hf complexes are negatively charged while Zr compounds are uncharged. Thus, authigenic calcite can behave as a suitable host for dissolved metal ion species to adsorb on crystal surfaces to remediate waste waters from mine drainage.
