CSBC is the biggest scientific event dedicated to computing in Latin America, integrating Brazilian computing and driving the area in the country. In one of its satellite events, WCAMA combines computing with the management of the environment and natural resources, an essential theme for Brazil. The analysis of the last eleven years of WCAMA (2013 – 2023) exposes a relevance in the theme of beekeeping, it also notes a limited number of broad collaborations, with the most prolific authors in a low number of collaborations. Several collaborations transcend national universities, involving environmental institutes or international institutions.

The heterogeneity and plurality of actors and the possible issues that influence Ethical Decision-Making (EDM) make EDM a multi-faceted phenomenon. This research aims to (i) investigate the training or instructional path in ethics or computing ethics, and (ii) investigate these phenomena from ethics of resistance disruptive, critical, and innovative perspective. The simplification and reduction of the holistic panorama partially explain that empirical research on this topic has failed to generate cumulative results. Therefore, we collect and analyze four hundred and thirty-four responses from a questionnaire, mostly from computer experts associated with their instruction on ethics and “immoral” or “unethical” practices that they have been involved in, directly or indirectly. Based on the results obtained, the main contribution is an interpretive and exploratory computing ethics/ethics discussion about instruction and the morality of practices through cyberspace.

The inaugural meeting of the Workshop on Multimedia and Hypermedia Systems, now known as WebMedia, took place in 1995, one year after the founding of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). While the tram was still departing the station, Brazil boarded it. However, Tim Berners-Lee offers harsh criticism of the Web’s effects, applications, and uses three decades after he lay the Web’s conceptual cornerstone. Such as false information, widespread manipulation, the unethical use and exploitation of personal information, corporate monopolies, and dangers to democracy. He followed and kept abreast of the moral implications of the Web. However, did WebMedia also stay up in this context? We followed the Systematic Literature Review methodology with the aim to answer how WebMedia research published between 2005 and 2022 explicitly incorporates ethics. We analyzed 1331 papers, 52 (≈4%) presented ethical aspects, and, from these, one stood out. We concluded that the ethical aspects remained tiny, considering the time coverage. Less than 10% of the publications presented some ethical aspects, including the respective research. The occurrences of Ethics Committee, Informed Consent, or a combination of both did not reach 2% of the publications. Even though the Web and Multimedia are cross-cutting themes in technical and non-technical aspects, the first is dominant. In contrast, the deliberations related to the second are limited, as well as on Ethics or Morals. Therefore, we propose guidelines for community appreciation, embracing a culture of ethical aspects. Our main contribution is bringing a meta-research perspective on ethical aspects dedicated to WebMedia.

Ethics is a field of study that analyses practices, their principles, customs, and habits. The Grand Research Challenges in Human-Computer Interaction in Brazil (GranDIHC-BR) between 2012 and 2022 highlighted the relevance of the topic Ethics in the context of Human Values. Aligned with that, we claim that computational techniques are not neutral and, therefore, ethical analysis is essential to the design of applications as well as theoretical or conceptual research. The goal of this work is to provide an understanding on how researchers have addressed the ethical aspects by analyzing the publications of the IHC-BR: the Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems, the leading conference dedicated to HCI in Brazil. Thus, we conducted a Systematic Literature Review guided by the main research question: how does ethics permeate research published between 2006 and 2021? As a result, although less than 5% of the papers discussed ethical content, we observed a significant growth in ethical aspects over the years, both associated with the meta-research and its application.

Ethical Decision-Making Models (EDMMs) can formalize the course of action through which agents reach their decision-making processes, concerning morals and ethics. The interest in ethical decision-making both from academia and practitioners in Business Computing has increased recently due to the applied computing advances, specially regarding Artificial Intelligence. Research is mainly focused on theoretical models to explain ethical decision-making, factors that influence it or measuring tools to assess it. However, to the best of our knowledge there is an absence of a graphic resource to represent the elements of an EDMM that goes beyond the textual scope. This paper is a first proposal in thinking-making a graphical representation that includes elements of EDMM, enables a more complete information panorama as possible, documents ethical decision-making and facilitates the visualization of these knowledge assets.

Information Systems (IS) plays an essential role in shaping almost all sectors of society, such as, commerce, politics, services, entertainment, information, relationships, among others. Digital technologies have enabled a new dimension of products, transmission, storage, and access to information. The outcome of this whole transformation process is intended to provide improvement and facilitating the lives and practices of individuals in society. However, we have also to face its negative impacts. We argue that situations involving both the design and the adoption or use of IS should be analyzed from the point of view of Ethics through a well-defined process that might help the professional and/or the citizen in making decisions in sensitive contexts when conceptual conflicts show up. To justify the definition of this process, we discuss the significance of the new technologies based on Andrew Feenberg's Philosophy of Technology. Grounded on this theory, we highlight the benefits and problems of the new technologies in the contemporary world. Finally, we present the process proposal and analyze the results of its application in the context of two well-known real cases and discuss the results in light of the theoretical foundation.

Every month, millions of users worldwide play the online digital game League of Legends, which also contains a server dedicated to the Brazilian region. Social oppression by race, skin color, sexual orientation, among others, occurs within the game and is reported constantly. In this paper, we analyzed possible indications of depressive disorder by using an online questionnaire as a basis. We used quantitative and qualitative methods, analyzing the relationship between the interactions and the social identities of the players. We define quantitative hypotheses and qualitative syntheses related to different social factors of the game through the analysis of 604 responses. League of Legends has a negative influence on the mental health of socially peripheral players, and the qualitative analysis exposes specific and widespread cases of oppression and discrimination. We present a discussion on ethics, possible collusion with oppression, and proposals for mitigation or solution.
