Abstract

Amorphous thin films of DyFe and DyFeCoy, with various x and y values and of ~40 nm thickness, have been prepared by sputtering on polyimide films. Their magnetization curves and the Mssbauer spectra indicate that at 295 K the iron moments are preferentially oriented parallel to the film in DyFe and that DyFe is paramagnetic. The DyFe thin films, where x is 17, 20, 24, 29, 32, 35, and 37, show perpendicular magnetic anisotropies and moderate coercive fields of at most 150 kA/m, whereas the DyFesCo thin films, wherey is 8, 13, 16, and 20, thin films show stronger perpendicular anisotropies and larger coercive fields of ~400 kA/m. The introduction of cobalt into the amorphous thin films increases their coercive field and the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The Mssbauer spectra of the DyFe and DyFeCo amorphous thin films consist of broadened sextets which have been analyzed with a distribution of hyperfine fields by assuming that the iron moments are oriented perpendicular to the plane of the film. Detailed fits of the Mssbauer spectrum of DyFe indicate that the cone angle of the iron magnetic moments cannot be determined with accuracy. The average hyperfine fields in the DyFe amorphous thin films are smaller than those in the crystalline dysprosium--iron intermetallic compounds. The average hyperfine field increases from ~140 kOe in the DyFe films to ~220 kOe in the DyFeCo films, an increase which is in agreement with the increase in the saturation magnetization. The x dependence of the isomer shift indicates that there is strong dysprosium--iron bonding, whereas the y dependence of the isomer shift reveals an enhancement of the d-electron localization. Amorphous thin films of [Dy.sub.20][Fe.sub.80-y] [Co.sub.y], with 0 [is less than] y [is less than] 20 and of ca. 40 nm thickness, have been prepared by sputtering on polyimide substrates. The 295 K conversion electron Mossbauer spectra (CEMS) of these films consist of broadened sextets which have been analyzed with a distribution of hyperfine fields in which the iron moments are oriented perpendicular to the plane of the film, an orientation which is in agreement with the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy observed herein at 295 K by vibrating sample magnetrometry. The average hyperfine field and isomer shift increase linearly with increasing Co content. Both increases arise from an increase in the electron occupation of the 3d states as the cobalt content increases. Abstract

We present a thermoreflectance-based metrology concept applied to compound semiconductor thin films off-line characterization in the solar cells scribing process. The presented thermoreflectance setup has been used to evaluate the thermal diffusivity of thin CdTe films and to measure eventual changes in the thermal properties of 5 m CdTe films ablated by nano and picosecond laser pulses. The temperature response of the CdTe thin film to the nanosecond heating pulse has been numerically investigated using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The computational and experimental results have been compared.

Abstract

Surface Plasmons Resonance (SPR) architectures involving multi-wavelength interrogation is an attractive alternative for droplet biosensing. In this work, we address two detection formats experimentally investigated by our research group. The first one involves an angular scanning combining one near-IR and one visible light probes. It enables to increase the number of parameters for numerical fitting, which improves the precision of measurement. The second concept involves the SPR Coupler and Disperser sensor principle, where the spectrum analysis is performed on each detector pixel using the same diffraction grating that is employed for the optical coupling of the incident light with the surface plasmons.

49. OLED light extraction improvement with surface nano-micro texturation based on speckle lithography

Abstract

Part of the light rays generated within a luminescent medium with a higher refractive index than that of the exit medium, typically air, undergo total internal reflection phenomenon (TIR); these rays will be trapped and guided into the emissive material and will not be extracted out of an OLED device for instance. Trapped light is reabsorbed and eventually converted into heat that will be detrimental to the device performance and lifetime. The amount of trapped energy is highly dependent on the values of the refractive indices involved in the multilayer stack constituting the light emitting device. The amount of trapped energy can be extensive and can even reach as much as 75% in certain cases. Solutions to improve the outcoupling efficiency are therefore attractive. In this paper we propose to use laser speckle to produce a random surface with controlled parameters to enhance the OLED outcoupling. A laser speckle pattern is transferred onto a photoresist which will be subsequently converted into a surface relief profile. The optical setup parameters drive the properties of such surface and thus the outcoupling properties. The resulting surface has a quasi-random shape which could be assimilated to a corrugated surface. We will show that these typical surfaces exhibit light extraction enhancement properties. The generated pattern is then transferred onto the exit interfaces of the emitting device. An extraction improvement close to a factor 3 is measured. We finally discuss a practical case for which the laser speckle shape is applied to texture the surface of encapsulating cover glasses in a top-emitting OLED on steel substrates.

Abstract

et al., Feedhorn- and orthomode transducer- (OMT) coupled transition edge sensor (TES) bolometers have been designed and micro-fabricated to meet the optical specifications of the LiteBIRD high frequency telescope (HFT) focal plane. We discuss the design and optical characterization of two LiteBIRD HFT detector types: dual-polarization, dual-frequency-band pixels with 195/280 GHz and 235/337 GHz band centers. Results show well-matched passbands between orthogonal polarization channels and frequency centers within 3% of the design values. The optical efficiency of each frequency channel is conservatively reported to be within the range 0.64−0.72, determined from the response to a cryogenic, temperature-controlled thermal source. These values are in good agreement with expectations and either exceed or are within 10% of the values used in the LiteBIRD sensitivity forecast. Lastly, we report a measurement of loss in Nb/SiNx/Nb microstrip at 100 mK and over the frequency range 200–350 GHz, which is comparable to values previously reported in the literature., This work is supported by NASA under grant no. 80NSSC18K0132.
