We use the quasi-parton distribution approach within the lattice QCD framework and perform the computation using an ensemble of twisted mass fermions with the strange and charm quark masses tuned to approximately their physical values and light quark masses giving pion mass of 260 MeV. We use hierarchical probing to evaluate the disconnected quark loops. We discuss identification of ground state dominance, the Fourier transform procedure and convergence with the momentum boost. We find non-zero results for the disconnected isoscalar and strange quark distributions. The determination of the quark parton distribution and in particular the strange quark contributions that are poorly known provide valuable input to the structure of the nucleon., Published by Inst., Melville, NY

Physical review letters 126(10), 102003 (2021). doi:10.1103/PhysRevLett.126.102003, We present, for the first time, an ab initio calculation of the individual up, down, and strange quark helicity parton distribution functions for the proton. The calculation is performed within the twisted mass clover-improved fermion formulation of lattice QCD. The analysis is performed using one ensemble of dynamical up, down, strange, and charm quarks with a pion mass of 260 MeV. The lattice matrix elements are nonperturbatively renormalized and the final results are presented in the $\overline{MS}$ scheme at a scale of 2 GeV. We give results for $��u^+(x), ��d^+(x) ��u^-(x), ��d^-(x)$, including disconnected quark loop contributions, as well as for $��s^+(x)$ and $��s^-(x)$. Physical review / D 102(9), 094508 (2020). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.102.094508, We present a new method, based on Gaussian process regression, for reconstructing the continuous x-dependence of parton distribution functions (PDFs) from quasi-PDFs computed using lattice QCD. We examine the origin of the unphysical oscillations seen in current lattice calculations of quasi-PDFs and develop a nonparametric fitting approach to take the required Fourier transform. The method is tested on one ensemble of maximally twisted mass fermions with two light quarks. We find that with our approach oscillations of the quasi-PDF are drastically reduced. However, the final effect on the light-cone PDFs is small. This finding suggests that the deviation seen between current lattice QCD results and phenomenological determinations cannot be attributed solely on the Fourier transform., Published by Inst.302363, Melville, NY

We investigate the behavior of the pseudo-critical temperature of $N_f = 2+1$ QCD as a function of a static magnetic background field for different values of the pion mass, going up to $m_\pi \simeq 660$ MeV. The study is performed by lattice QCD simulations, adopting a stout staggered discretization of the theory on lattices with $N_t = 6$ slices in the Euclidean temporal direction; for each value of the pion mass the temperature is changed moving along a line of constant physics. We find that the decrease of $T_c$ as a function of $B$, which is observed for physical quark masses, persists in the whole explored mass range, even if the relative variation of $T_c$ appears to be a decreasing function of $m_\pi$, approaching zero in the quenched limit. The location of $T_c$ is based on the renormalized quark condensate and its susceptibility; determinations based on the Polyakov loop lead to compatible results. On the contrary, inverse magnetic catalysis, i.e. the decrease of the quark condensate as a function of $B$ in some temperature range around $T_c$, is not observed when the pion mass is high enough. That supports the idea that inverse magnetic catalysis might be a secondary phenomenon, while the modifications induced by the magnetic background on the gauge field distribution and on the confining properties of the medium could play a primary role in the whole range of pion masses, Comment: 13 pages, 15 figures
