2. Grain boundary compositions, transport and flux pinning of multifilamentary Nb3Sn wires

Abstract

The elemental concentration profiles at the grain boundaries and inside the grains of the A15 phase of different Nb3Sn, (Nb,Ta)3Sn and (Nb,Ti)3Sn multifilamentary wires were characterized using scanning transmission electron microscopy. In addition, measurements of critical temperature, critical current density as a function of external magnetic field and upper critical field as a function of temperature were performed. The results showed that the superconducting characteristics of such wires are not homogeneous across the grains.

In addition, the contributions of Peter Kapitza, Francis Bitter, Stanley Autler, Bernd T. Matthias and Paul Chu are chronicled.

Abstract

The decanuclear iron (III) molecular ferric wheel complex, (Fe(OMe)2(O2CCH2Cl))10 results due to methanolysis of iron monochloroacetate and ferric nitrate. A previously unknown circular ring structure occurs due to geometry-induced convex and concave curvatures. The circular structure does not significantly affect the Mossbauer and geometric properties of the individual iron sites in the complex.
